How to color print to remote XP printer
Forgive me if my question seems elementary. I've just recently migrated from Windows to Mac, so I'm noob. Anyway, I'm trying to color print from my mbp wirelessly to my xp desktop with Canon MP830 attached.
After some research, I've switched to the Guten driver and managed to print in b & w. I can't however, manage to print in color. What am I missing?
Reading your reply, it sounds like you are looking in System Preferences > Print & Fax > Options & Supplies. This is where you see a General tab but there is no color setting here. Or, you are looking under at the Preferences tab of the driver in Windows.
This is not what I suggested. If you open a pdf file in Preview and select to print, with the print dialog open you will see the MP830 name at the top and the next menu underneath is the Presets. If you see no other menus, click the triangle next to the printer name. This will show you more settings and you will see the Preview menu. Click this and in this list should be Printer Features.
If you still do not see Printer Features, then can you confirm which printer driver you are using for the MP830 on the Mac. Open Print & Fax, select the printer in the list and press Options & Supplies. If you then select the Driver tab, the Print Using menu will show the information I need to know.

I have an HP deskjet color printer that only prints in black and white from my mac ... how do I get it to print in color
Check the printer itself. Some printers you need to set the color & B&W settings on the printer itself instead of the Mac. If that is not the case w/your printer, contact HP tech support and/or post in their forums if they have one.

How can I print without color?
How can I print without my color cartridge in my printer, I have a HP Deskjet 3510. I cant find only print in black in white in the setting on my printer.
Hi,
Actually we call it as Grayscale. But Grayscale is a mixture of all colors. If you only wish to print Black & White only, you need to set "Black Ink only" as default. Please try:
The setup may vary from printer to printer but basically (for Windows):
(a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
(b) Click Set Preferences,
(c) Click Advanced,
(d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
(e) Click Ok/Apply ...
Regards.

How can I print in black/white only a document that has colors in the original?
How can I print in black/white only a document that has colors in its original. I don't need the print out to be in color, and I don't want to waste the color ink.
It depends on your printer and the application you are using.
In some applications you can choose color vs. greyscale/black&white when you do File > Print. PowerPoint is one example of an application that allows this choice.
Otherwise, you can usually select greyscale at the time you print the document. Do File > Print. In the resulting dialog box, there should be an item called Copies & Pages (in Word and other applications) or Preview (in Preview). Click it. In the resulting list, you should then see an option called Printer Features. Click it. Then you should see an option called Printout Mode. Usually one of the modes is Greyscale or Black & White. Select it. Then Print.
This can also depend on your printer. Exactly what make/model printer are you using? And what kind of document are you trying to print (Word, PPT, JPEG, etc)? -

How to configure ePrint on LaserJet CP1025nw Color Printer
Solution found:
How to Configure HP ePrint on the LaserJet CP1025nw Color Printer
System: Windows (Widows 7)
Step 1 – Install Printer
Install the CP1025nw Printer to USB, Wifi or Ethernet.
(Printer needs to print correctly in order to pass to the next steps).
Step2 – Check Firmware Version
Press the “Info-Button” on the CP1025nw LaserJet for five seconds.
The printer will print two info pages.
Look at the first Page on the top-left for Firmware Version
Firmware version must be 20120103 or higher.
Step 3 – Update Firmware
Download Firmware Update utility (LJCP1020_FWUpdate_signed.exe) from the following link:
Utilidad de actualización del firmware de HP LaserJet CP1025nw
or
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=lj-86491-5&cc=es&dlc=es&lc=es&...=
Execute the Utility on the computer were the CP1025nw LaserJet is correctly installed.
Find the CP1025nw Printer on the list. The selection Window might show the printer several times depending on how the printer was installed. Select one option and press the button “Update One”.
Step 4 – Retrieve the Printer Code for your CP1025nw Printer
ATTENTION:
The “Host Name” of the printer is not the “Printer-Code” you need for ePrint setup.
To retrieve the Printer-Code you must run the ePrint-Setup-Wizard-Utility.
To download of the utility, go to the link: http://www.hp.com/go/ePrint .
Find the “HP LaserJet Pro CP1020 Color Printer Series” option in the Drop-Down-List.
Click “Windows” to download the wizard (EPrintSetupWizard.exe ).
Execute the Wizard on the computer where the CP1025nw Printer is correctly installed. After running the wizard press the “Info-Button” on the CP1025nw LaserJet for five seconds. The printer will print three info pages. The third info-page offers the Printer-Code you need for ePrint setup. The code is valid for 24h only. When time elapses you have to reprint the info-pages to get an actualized Printer-Code.
Step 5 – Get Printer Email for your CP1025nw LaserJet
In order ePrint on your CP1025nw Printer you need to assign an email address to your Printer. To do this, go to the following link: http://www.hpeprintcenter.com/
Log in with your HP-ID. If you don’t have one, register for a new account.
When logged in, click on “Add new Printer”-button. You will be asked to enter the Printer-Code. (On how to get the Printer-Code, see step 4).
While evaluating the Printer-Code, be patient, the program needs its time.
When the Printer-Code is accepted, you can assign an email address for your CP102nw5 LaserJet. Done this, your con print your CP1025nw Printer just by sending the documents per email to the email-address of your printer.
Done.Hi Max, check out the link below...

Hi REMAX2011,
The only other option I can see which might do what you are looking for is on the Services tab.
1. Printer Properties
2. Services tab
3. Device services, and then click on Device and Supplies Status
4. Click the System tab
5. Click on Print Density
6. Adjust Black density till you get what you are looking for.

Apple didn't make the drivers. Apple doesn't make printer drivers and has not done so since they stopped making their own printers. HP made the printer drivers for that device. Apple merely publishes HP's drivers.
OK, but still, they built the poorly made HP drivers in their OS.
Ah, no. They published the only drivers HP gave them. If they didn't publish them, then Mac users would be unable to use HP devices at all, except for those devices supported by 3rd parties such as Gutenprint and the HPIJS Project. HP is solely responsible for the state of their drivers. And it's not just Mac drivers which are bad; a lot of Windows drivers stink, too. HP simply has a problem writing drivers. For the most part they have excellent hardware, but truly terrible software. -

How can I set the default print settings of my document as color. I want the default print setting to be color when someone opens a document. similar to duplex print preset is there a color print preset?
Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer. -

How can I print from my iPhone or iPad in black and white only, so as to save my color ink? I am using HP Photosmart 5510. I can't see how airprint gives that option. Is there an app out there for this?
That is a function of your printer, you can set your printer to be B&W via it's front panel settings.
