How to Combine 2 Different Libraries

About 6 months ago, our Powerbook was starting to fill up with photos and music, so I decided to back up our current iPhoto library to an external drive and on dvd, and then deleted the old library off the computer and started a new one. A couple weeks ago, we decided to just start storing all our photos on an external drive.
How do I combine the original library with all the new photos we've taken since then into one new master library?

I got the iPhoto Library Manager, and the merge function seems like it would be great, but I'm getting error messages:
"An error has occurred while attempting to import the roll "Roll 109". (* -[NSNull length]: selector not recognized [self = 0xa07bb218]) If you would like to continue and try to import the roll "Roll 109" again, click "Continue". If you would like to continue, but skip the roll "Roll 109", click "Skip". If you would like to stop the merge, click "Cancel".
How do I fix this? Thoughts?
And the program seems great, but is there no "drag & drop" way to get the files I need all in one master folder? The merge function seems like it creates a lot of unecessary duplicates that would have to be deleted later.

  • How to switch between different libraries for different iPods?

    Hi,
I succesfully created two separate iTunes libraries on my computer (windows XP) for the iPods of me and my girlfriend. But, how can we switch easily back and forth between the different libraries?
The suggested option on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432 'method three' and bullet '13' does not appear / work....

    thanx for replying so fast.
    No problem, Roy. : - )
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you this time. : - (
i'd like to know how i can switch between libraries without closing down iTunes.
Unfortunately you can only choose your Library at startup. So the only way to switch Libraries is to close iTunes ...
You might want to let Apple know your thoughts on the matter by submitting this form: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • HT3819 how to combine 2 separate libraries to one

how does home sharing work when 2 computers have separate apple IDs?

RESOLVED . . . Still looking for an iTunes method of creating 2 libraries on 1 computer.   But if it helps for others, you can use NTFS file permissions to deny access to one folder tree to keep iTunes focused on the other folder tree it can see when you select "Scan for Media".
Then reverse the permissions to create the library for the other folder tree.   When done allow access two both trees and they will then co-exist on one computer.
The only remaining inconvenience . . . I have iTunes Match set up on library "Adults".  If I sign into the Apple store to buy a song or get artwork from library "Kids", iTunes is populated with the "Adult" songs from iTunes Match.  I just have to avoid staying signed into the Store from the "Kids" library, so someone doesn't start downloading "Adults" music into the "Kids" library.
To inform the context of this question, we have 3 Apple portable devices that play from our iTunes Match "adult" library.  We also have "Adult" and "kid" devices that are not Apple, so we just copy the respective folder tree to non-Apple devices.
So the use NTFS DENY permissions works for creating two libraries on a single computer, and it only take a few minutes to do,  BUT FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T SYSTEM ADMININSTRATORS, IS THERE AN "APPLE WAY" TO DO THIS ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER?

  • How To combine two Itunes libraries, and run Itunes off of external device

    Hi,
I have a very blonde question to ask. I have the ipad2 (now very old) and a Macbook Air - Currently I have one itunes library on my Macbook Air, and one on my itunes - not sure how I did that, but here we are.
I would like to combine both the libaries - as one seems to have my older apps, all my music and movies, and the other on my Macbook air seems to have all my newly downloaded apps.
How do I merge both of them so that all my info is in once place, and how do I get my itunes to run back off of the external device, as there is not enough space on my macbook air.

By "device" I presume you mean your iPad?
Computers running iTunes are intended to be the master source for your collection.  i-devices are designed to be synced from a computer's collection.  They are not intended to be the main repository of your collection.  If you need that, consider buying an external hard drive for your media collection.  You can transfer items purchased from Apple from a device to a computer, but depeneding upon your country and iCloud availability you should also be able to download them from the iTunes Store to your computer again too.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - this is just purchased music, not all
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085 ); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple recommends  "you always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store."

How do you deal with duplicates?
    I'm talking 50GB.

    You can't.
If accounts could be merged, then everybody could merge their accounts with everybody and there would be no need for anyone to buy anything.

    Thanks

    Hey Kelliott222,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In iTunes your library library some items might be stored in different locations and you can consolidate all the files in your library to the iTunes folder.

Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
You can drag media files onto the iPod or iPad in iTunes to add them to the device without adding them to the iTunes library.
    Have a nice day,

My girlfriend and I both have iTunes account with our own music libraries and we want to combine our two libraries into one icloude accounts so can both then access our one shared libary at anytime in the cloud.  How do we do this?

No it is not possible.  Content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently tied to the account from which it was originally purchased, and Apple does not provide a way to change it.

If not the only answer is the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager -http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and maybe duplicate annihaliator -http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18748/duplicate-annihilator
You must have IPLM as stated - you may also need DA depending on how thing go with the merge

  • How to combine count() queries to tables in different environments?

    Hi all,
I've got two tables that have the same schema, but slightly different data. One is a test db, and the other is a model office db (i.e. neither is a production db).
I run these two queries, individually, from within the test db:
    select count(cdeSource), cdeSource
    from schema1.SomeTable
    group by cdeSource
    order by cdeSource
    select count(cdeSource), cdeSource
    from schema1.SomeTable@TheModelOfficeDB
    group by cdeSource
    order by cdeSource
The column cdeSource can contain a 1 to 1 relationship with another field in the tables, but it can also contain a 1 to many with the other field.
Right now, I need to export each result into a file and then do a compare between the two to find the differences, between the two tables, out of the big results.
Question: How can I combine those two queires into 1, and show only the differences from the "count(cdeSource)" results column?
    Thanks.

I tried putting "MINUS" in between both queries, and it gives me an error: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
I tried wrapping that whole query, within a select * from () but gave me a different error: ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis
Other ideas how to combine the two?
Thanks.if & when you use valid syntax, then no errors get thrown.
We can not tell you what you do wrong, since you don't use COPY & PASTE to show us what exactly you do.
    SELECT cdeSource, COUNT(cdeSource) FROM TABLE1
