How to compare 2 different versions of a document in Lion?

Supported applications in Lion reduntantly autosave several versions of a document, even if the user does not want to.
Does anybody know how to compare two arbitrary versions and see in what they differ (kind of the old good diff command in Unix)?
Thank you

Is it possible to compare repositories?
If yes, how can i do that? Is there a tool for this?
Situation:
I've 2 different designer repositories. I've compared in the database schema DES2_MANAGER the table SDD_ELEMENTS with the second database.
I've compared the modules, where the last_update_date was different.
Result was 10 screens. So now i want to compare these modules(SCREEN) in designer with an other designer Repositorie.

• How to compare between two versions of template project???

Dear All,
We are doing some cleanup activity in our solution manager system. For this actually we have created the replica of this project from production system to a sandbox system. We can do the cleanup of this project and can transport this new project to our production system and can move on.
But the pbm we are facing now is, how do we bring in the data captured or added to the production system after we have copied it to the sandbox system?
Can anybody throw in some light into this issue?
We tried the option of creating different version for the template and using the sa_project_upgrade transaction to compare between two versions of the template using "Current Version in Project" option. Not sure whether this will work out.
{{We thought that if we try in this way, we can find the difference between the two versions of the template project, and from there, might be we can bring in the new changes into our new project manually. We do agree that this is not the right approach.}}
But the end result we got was like we got the information regarding where all there is the difference between the current version in the template project to that of the original(in our case it checked against BPR as we selected the scenarios from BPR for this template). But what we expected was a difference between two versions of the template.
Pls help. Pls make a try to help. Any thoughts in this direction will help us to move forward.
Any info will be suitably rewarded.
best regards,
Krishna.

Hi Andreas,
Thanks a lot for your immediate reply.
I too had that doubt that my appraoch will not work. But wanted to get confirmation that it will not work. Also wanted to know about any other approach. Thank you for providing me with some alternative approach.
I tried the option suggested by you. But while running the comparison report for the newly copied project with the option "New Version of Original", I am getting the below error. I do agree that this approach should work. But for some reason I am getting the below error. Can you pls look into the same and help me out.

• How can I save different versions in iMovie 11 (plus angry rant)

Sigh.
My fiancee is sitting in front of the computer crying because iMove just messed up her project. The project that was basically done. The project she has to hand in tomorrow morning (it is midnight right now).
Who knows what happened. Things apparently just jumped around and no amount of undoing is getting her back to where she wants to be (apparently she used undo, then tried to fix things, then tried to undo again).
Which leads me to:
*** was Apple thinking when they removed the ability to save a file? Seriously! Both of us are experienced computer users and both of us are in the (very vital) habit of saving multiple versions of a file. We don't save a version every 10 seconds, and we don't save a version for every insignificant change. But we do save versions whenever we feel we have hit a milestone. And we would have done exactly that had there been some obvious way to do it in iMovie.
OSX Lion (the first version of OSX that desperately makes me want to downgrade) is supposed to autosave so that you don't have to. But iMove 11 apparently cannot do even this simple thing. As far as I can tell you work on your project and it is the *only* version of this project you can ever work on. If you make a change, you can either:
live with it
or
linearly undo as long as you have not quit the program. Heaven forbid that it crashes or (like it just did right now) stops playing back audio and you have to quit and restart.
There must be a way of saving different versions of your project so that you aren't messing with your one and only precious copy every time you make an edit. Please tell me there is. Or how do I get to the autosaved versions? It is probably too late for her now (she has to redo most of the project to get the audio to line up again) but for future reference we could use some help.
Sigh. Now I have to go help her. I feel so bad for her and I pretty much want to chuck the freaking computer through Apple's living room window right now.

Sorry for your frustration.
Here are two tips that may help in the future.
To save a version, use FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3a61c0ec
You might also consider using Time Machine backups.

• How to use two different versions of Firefox at the same time on Snow Leopard?

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 on my 27" iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.7.
Previously, I was using Google's "Page Speed" along with Firebug in Firefox 3.6.15 to optimize images in my web pages, and to find other areas to optimize.
Page Speed is not yet compatible with Firefox 4.0. I wrote to Google about this some time ago -- no answer yet.
If I run Firefox 3.6.15 in order to use Page Speed, I run into a few problems afterward when I start using Firefox 4.0 again, since they both use the same "Firefox" folder in my "Application Support" folder.
How can I set it up so that I can have two separate "Firefox" folders in my "Application Support" folder?
Or is there an easier way to use two different versions of Firefox simultaneously, even if one has extensions and/or plug-ins installed which are not compatible with the other version?
Thanks for a great browser!

Please disregard my question. I just conducted more web search and learned how to use Firefox's profile manager in order to make a separate profile for Firefox 3.6.15.
You can find instructions on this page:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles#os=mac&browser=fx35
'''A small tip:'''
If your Firefox app is named anything other than "Firefox" -- say for example "Firefox 3.6.15" -- when you follow the instructions at the above link, make sure you escape the blank space that is before the version number by adding a backward slash before it, when you type the command string in the Terminal. In other words, in that string, you should use this:
Firefox\ 3.6.15
I hope that helps someone.

• How to deal with different versions of Idocs in XI

Hi,
I am doing a scenario IDoc to IDoc but on both sides SAP versions are different say 5.0 and 4.6
I have done all the configuaration and it is working fine.
But in sxmb_moni getting "Outbinding"(this is not error)
and in attributes in trace it is saying "segment version"..
i guess while transporting to QA and Prod it might trigger some problems...
i could not find any docs properly in SDN......
could anyone give input how to deal situation like this?
regards.

HI Swarup,
thanx for the response.
i did the same thing...i imported 2 different versions into xi and used in mapping.and interface is working fine.
what i am concerned is : will there be any problem in future while transporting to different environments?
and why it is showing 'segment version' in attribute in Trace in sxmb_moni....
any inputs will be help full....
Thanx in advance.

• How to compare two different environments

Can any please tell me how to compare two environments like DEVL to TEST?
I know how to compare a project(like DEVL to TEST) but i want to see all the changes in all the objects between two different environments.
Please help me.
Thank you.

That is really a good piece of information.
Does it really matter where we are comparing from?
i will explain, let us say we have DEV and TST environment.
let us say both has same project name and the same number of objects but inside the object they may be different(like number of fields in the same record in both environments).
Now we want to have a compare report between those environments.
We can do in two different ways, right?
(1. source DEV, Target TST)
(2. source TST, Target DEV)
will the result get changed in both the cases?
(except like following)
(first case souce target)
( absent *changed)
(second case would be like following)
( souce target)
( *changed absent)
(but i gess the number of rows in both the cases does not get changed)
let me know if you can not understand the question. sorry about the confusing explanation

• How to use two different versions of the same jar within one project

Hi everybody!
I have a big problem while integrating different web service clients within one bigger java project. Both implemetations need some jar files to work but demand different version. So, i would like to know if there is any way to tell which implementation should use which version! Anyhow i add those jars to the classpath makes working only one or the other webservice working but never both! Any ideas somebody?
Best regrads,
Stefan Gtz

Of course do have the jar files different names but the classes inside of them are the same ... means that the standard system classloader can distinguish them. When you add a jar to a classpath the name actually dosent matter.... any other ideas, please?
PD.: i tryed to add a manifest file to the one jar which makes use of one of the dublicated jars to specify which jar to take direcly but it makes no difference since once classes loaded they cant be distinguish ....see:

• How to compare the contents of two XML documents

Hi all,
I was trying to compare the contents of two xml documents, they are both validate for the same XML Schema. i was using the xmlunit to do this. but some how it doesn't work like what i have expected. for example:
1.xml : <test>
2

1
</test>
2.xml: <test>
3

2

1
</test>
the result from XMLUnit is this two xmls are different, but it compares
2
with
3
, which i cannot find out where the real diiffs are.
does anybody know how i can do this correct?
best regards,
tina

I faced a similar problem in one of my projects and hence wrote my own comparator. Most comparators like ExamXML etc show XML as different if the nodes under a parent node occur in different seqeunce or a set of repeated nodes occur in different sequence. The comparator that I wrote gives you the flexibility to configure how to identify a node from a set of repeated nodes and is able to compare them successfully if they occur in any order. You can view the sample output at http://geocities.com/dheerendra_itbhu/TipsFromDheeru.html
and contact me in case you need the source code.

• How to install two different version (7.3.4 and 8.0.4) on a server machine ??

hi,
I have this problem:
I must install on a NT server , in 2 different volumes , 2 different oracle version.
When i try to lunch the second listner service I got an error.
How to solve this ??
Thanks for all.

The error is because of port (defalut 1521 if you have not changed it) is under use.
You need to change the Tcp port number in
<ORACLE_HOME>/network/admin/listener.ora file
if you want to start second listener.

• How to compare the simulation version

Dear Experts,
For Operative Projects we can create Simulation Versions (CJV1 / CJV4) & Project Version (CN72).
We can compare different Project Versions with Operative Project (S_ALR_87013539 / 38).
Similarly can we compare Simulation version with Operative Project?
OR can we see plan cost report for simulation version?
Please guide.
Rajesh

Hi,
Simulation versions are not meant for comparison purpose. You can use Project versions for that, which are snapshots of project at that point of time.
Simulation versions can be used to analyse 'what-if' conditions and for quotation ie pre-order analysis. Before receipt of sales order, you can create simulation project and do cost planning for quotation purpose. After receipt of sales order, this project can be made operative. In case of loss of project, you can delete simulation.
Another case can be during execution you want to check "what happens if" kind of conditions. you can transfer operative project to simulation version, simulate reqd condition. If results are desirable, you can copy the simulation version onto current project or alternatively delete simulation.
Regards

• How do you make different versions of a Project?

I want to take a project and save out a different variation of it.
But when I duplicate my project I wind up with a huge new project file on my hard drive with duplicate rendering files etc.
Isn't there a way to make multiple versions of a project file without having to duplicate all those massive files?
I have a feeling that there is a convention I'm not aware of for creating variations on a project.
Is there?

The project in question is about 2 gigs.
So are you saying there is an option to not duplicate render files?
Can one Project file reference a previous versions render files?
But the bigger question is:
Am I going about this the right way?
I want to have two versions of the same project. (Say with different endings or sound tracks)
But I dont want to have duplicate render files for each.
What is the smartest way to do this?
