How to concate string variable?

hi,
anyone help me out in this case.
i have a prg. like this.
data: var1(20) type c.
data: var2(2) type c.
data: var3(2) type c.
data: var type string.
var1 = 'abcd'.
var2 = 'bp'.
var3 = 'bp'.
i want the output like..... abcd bpbp.
it means i want to leave 16 spaces after abcd in this case. if var1 is having content like ,
abcde than i want to leave 15 space after abcde because total length of var1 is 20.
if i simply concate output would be abcdbpbp.
so if i count the no. of spaces i need to leave after abcd and create one date object of type c at runtime , it would work out.
but how should i create.....?
plz let me know ASAP.

there are 2 main keywords used with concatenate
(1) ...."SEPARATED BY"
(2) ...."RESPECTING BLANKS"
in this case if you do the code
copy the code into a test program......................
data: var1(20) type c.
data: var2(2) type c.
data: var3(2) type c.
data : var4(4) type c.
data: var type string.
var1 = 'abcd'.
var2 = 'bp'.
var3 = 'bp'.
concatenate var2 var3 into var4.
to get bpbp
concatenate var1 var4 into var separated by SPACE.
write var.
clear var.
concatenate var1 var4 into var respecting blanks.
write var.
keep changing the value of var1 in the code to see how you can use the 2 options to your advantage...and which one suits your requirement best
Output1: " using separated by space"
abcd bpbp
here there will be 1 spacce after abcd
so it is abcde
it will be
abcde bpbp
Output2: " using respecting blanks"
abcd bpbp
ie,after abcd there will be 16 more blank spaces since its total length is 16...
using this keyword the number of space is not condensed but kept intact
but if there are 20 characters in the var1 then there will be no space eg: abcdefghijklmnopqrsbpbp...for 19 characters it will be abcdefghijklmnopqr bpbp
so you can decide which layout you need once you write the code and see th output for yourself

and in my PL/SQL function i give a query as

Is this correct. I Know that the above statement works when the LOV is an integer, but when i use a character LOV return value the above statement does not work. how can i get in the character LOV value.

How to use string Variables for data provider names

Really what I need to be able to do is insert the variable
name in this:
dataProvider="{chartXML2.lastResult.month.day}"
I need to replace the "month" with a string variable name
(i.e public var monthName = "January";)
I also need to do the same for the categoryfield as it will

You can use bracket notation. But don't. Use a reuslt handler
to wrap the xmllist in an XMLListCollection instance variable and
bind to that.

EXECUTE immediate l_dyn_sql_input600_cbs;
when i run the query it says "electonics" Invalid identifier.
Can anyone help to rectify the query

What are you actually trying to do here:
- Select employee name, age and the string literal 'electronics' from the employee table?
- Select employee name, age and the dept field from the employee table?
- Select employee name, age and dept from the employee table where dept = 'electronics'?
- Something else...?
Doesn't seem to make much sense as it is right now...

How to catch exception into a String variable ?

I have a code

        }when i open log i find
Exception in method Process null.
But i get a long error message in the server console !! I think thats coming from e.printStackTrace().
can i get the error message from e.printStackTrace() into a String variable ?
I want the first line of that big stacktrace in a String variable.

How to compare numbers in a string variable?

I have a powershell script that is grabbing the output of a website and storing it into a string variable. What I would like to do is check a line in the output which contains two numbers - the number of emails sent out of the total number of emails.
I have not come up with a way to do this that works. I was thinking of maybe using a regex, but there are other numbers I don't care about that keep getting caught.
Here is a sample of what is contained in the string variable:
Email ID: 46862270 : Succeded. Time Taken: 00:00:00.0924511
Email ID: 46862272 : Succeded. Time Taken: 00:00:00.0493887
-- Sent 250 of 250 emails successfully. Total Dispatch Time: 00:00:08.1406995
--State Written to DB. Time Taken for DB Write: 00:00:00.4611053
Here is another sample:
Email ID: 46865840 : Succeded. Time Taken: 00:00:00.9333887
-- Sent 17 of 17 emails successfully. Total Dispatch Time: 00:00:01.2416905

So if I have the above contained in a variable called $httpResponse how can I find only the line that starts with -- Sent
and then subtract the first number from the second number?
So for example if I have this:

-- Sent 207 of 217 emails successfully. Total Dispatch Time: 00:00:01.2416905

Each set of parens will designate a capture group, and those can be referenced from $Matches after a successful -match.
Just remember that they will all be strings, and to do a math operation you have to cast at least the one on the LH side to a numeric type first.

String letters=""+leter1+letter2+letter3;is fine and dandy. What it actually compiles to is
String letters = new StringBuffer().append(letter1).append(letter2).append(letter3).toString();Which ofcourse is much more code to write, but still good to know.
So do see the API for java.lang.StringBuffer.

How to escape string that SQLCMD thinks is a variable but isn't.

Hi All,
I've got a SQLCMD script where I use :setvar like I usually do. As part of its work it calls a stored procedure that has a parameter whose value is a string. Part of the string being passed looks like this.
Objects="$(INSTANCE)"
Now my SQLCMD script is throwing and error like the following.
A fatal scripting error occurred.
Variable INSTANCE is not defined.
How do I escape that $(INSTANCE) inside the string that SQLCMD thinks is a variable for it to use so that the string gets loaded into the table as it supposed to be? I'm failing to find how to escape
a variable that isn't actually a variable.

To anyone interested I was able to solve this. In the string being passed in as a parameter I was able to replace the $ with
+
CHAR(36)
+
and it works perfectly.
