selecting the clip in the timeline, highlights a grey box, telling you the length of this individual clip
aside the Projects title (here: test), you'll notice the overall length in min:secs
on top of the timeline are intervalls in min:secs
finally, for 'detailed' info, just push the zoom-slider to expand your timeline to see a 'magnified' timeline

Try this:
Select a small portion of the clip in the event (Above the timeline)
Click and hold and drag that section into the timeline, it should snap into place but if you drag it above another clip, it will not replace it but will be placed on top and the sound from the other clip will still play. Also this will allow you to use Blue/Green screen modes as well as picture in picture.
The best way is to drag it to the far right

There is no print command but you can use the Grab utility to make a screen shot of the timeline and then print that.

How do I show the timeline counter in the sequence?
I want to create a DVD of project and include the time count on screen.

Place the sequence containing your editing timeline into a new sequence.
In the Effects panel, type "timec" into the search box.
Apply the Timecode effect to your sequence clip.
Export via Encore to DVD. You may need to render first to see the timecode overlay depending on the format of your source footage.
Remember that F1 is your friend and that Google is pretty helpful, too.

After testing the issue in my local environment, we can enable the Scalar axis option to display a set of axis values on a continuous scale and reset the “Interval” property of the X-Axis. For more details, please see the following steps:
Drag a Column Chart to design surface, insert corresponding fields.
Right click on the Horizontal Axis and open the “Category Axis Properties” window.
Check the “Scalar axis” option, set the “Interval type” to “Months” and set the “Interval” to 1 for example.
Right click on the Vertical Axis and uncheck “Show Axis” option to hide the Y-Axis.
Right-click the series columns to select “Show Data Labels”, then right-click on the Label and select Series Label Properties.
In the Expression dialog box, modify the expression to anything you like.
To adjust the width simply select the appropriate series and go to the properties pane and drill down into the Custom Attributes and find the PointWidth. Then set the value to 0.1 for example.

How to get detailed timeline in iMovie 10...?

Spent the entire day yesterday going through discussions, various websites and videos and haven't been able to solve this one. In imovie '10 I can't display a detailed timline. It will tell me where my clips start and end, as well as the full lenth of the enitre project, but I should be able to so scroll through and see where exactly I am (minutes, seconds, milliseconds). The imovie11 suggestion to solve this exact problem was to go to preferences and change it there, but going to preferences only gives me one option: to apply slow-motion automatically. On many of the videos I saw, people were not using an exact timeline but on others, people were. Anyone know where I can find it, or am I SOL?

How do change the timeline view in PE9 to see all frames?

In PE9 I notice that many frames in timeline view appear blank. at the clip transitions the frame have images. How do I change this to see all the frames? In PE 2 I never had the "feature". I assume that most are blank to reduce file handling,etc. But I'd like to toggle the frame images on/off on command.
p.s. when I imported a short 8 munutes series of clips direct from my HD sony camera the timeline frames were complete... but most video i'm using is old anlaog tape conversions to DVD...than dvd files imported for PE editing.

The first time I opened Final Cut on my own, I accidentally closed the timeline box. How do I get it back?

Hmm...that's strange. Try this: From the FCE menu bar, select Window>Arrange>Standard
If that doesn't do the trick, your FCE Preferences may have gotten corrupted. Trash them exactly as described here:

i created a similar image map.
Now i need to play the timeline when i go with the mouse over one of the hotspot areas in the image map.
How can i modify the above code to do that?...(something like onmouseover="sym.play('first_animation')") where "first_animation" is a label on the timeline.
(Don't laugh..i'm pretty bad with javascript...)

When i go with the mouse over a "pie slice" i need to play an animation (i made some transparent rectangles for now and placed each one over a pie slice)
It would have been nice to do that with an image map for more accuracy because even though the images are "pie slices" they are seen as rectangles on mouseover...

Extracting portions of the timeline from iMovie to create a 'Sound File'

I recently used my Cannon GL2 as a field recorder to record 16 bit audio sound effects.
I'd like to extract certain portions of the timeline to create various 'Sound Files' which will be used later (as sound effects), in either iMovie, or FCE HD.
In iMovie HD, the only method I'm familiar with to extract a portion of the timeline to a 'Sound File', is to FIRST export that portion to a Quicktime File. Then I use 'Sound Studio 2.2.4' to import the Quicktime File. In Sound Studio, I can then create either an AIFF File, or Wav File.
From there, I open iTunes, and import the Wav File. Now I convert that Wav File to an MP3 (if I need to compress the size of the file).
I know I can import Raw DV Video Files (Captures), into Garage Band, but then I can't export that edited project into a Sound File.
But I do know I can use Garage Band to edit (EQ), a portion of the timeline, then Export that portion (as I explained above). But I'm still going through some extra steps .....
With all I'm mentioned, perhaps I need to get another software program in order to eliminate a step on my way to exporting a portion of a Video timeline from either iMovie, or FCE, and get straight to creating a sound file suitable for later import back into FCE, or iMovie?

Well yes thank you - that certainly answered part of my question
Now I wonder if I can extract just a 'PORTION' of the timeline? I tried to insert division points without actually cutting out all the unwanted stuff, and highlighted just that portion, but the Audio Extract process reverts back to extracting the ENITIRE timeline. So I guess I'd have to actually cut and delete all the unwanted parts, then 'save as' to that NEW iMovie project reflecting just that edit in order to extract JUST that audio piece?
I wonder if the process is more precise in FCE?

I am using Captivate 5 and would like to know what/where to find the settings to take the status recording bar off for my published projects.
Sorry I'm not sure what to call this but It's the timeline that lets' you pause, play, fastforward, rewind, etc.

Hi there
This is known as the "Playback Controls" or "Playbar".
To remove it, click Project > Skin Editor and clear the option labeled "Show Playback Control".

How to synchronize the timeline with the iPad accelerometer

I'm trying to synchronize the timeline of my edge animation with the iPad accelerometer.
I would like something like this:

In order to obtain an updated timestamp with each FieldPoint Read, you should
use a Flat Sequence structure. In the same frame as the
FieldPoint Read, use a Get Date/Time In
Seconds node.
The program obtains a fresh Timestamp each time the FieldPoint Read VI is
called.

When I drag a photo to the timeline on iMovie, a different photo appears. I've tried recreating thumbnails, and also created the problem photos in a test library.

When I drag a photo to the timeline on i-Movie sometimes a different photo, or even a video appear and sometimes it is just a black screen. I've tried recreating thumbnails, and even copied the problem photos into a test library, but still can't get it to work. Genius Bar kept my laptop 6 days and didn't do anything to help, just said the project was corrupt and I would need to recreate. Just tried a completely new project with totallty different photos and still experiencing the same problem. Anyone else had this issue?

How to see the timeline when animating

My timeline does not appear regardless of what I do.
How come?

This is what you should see when clicking the triangle.
Choose video or frame, this will change what the large button says. Then click the large button.
If the menu does not pop up, then something else is a problem.
Could be:
Video driver needs updating
Photoshop preferences need resetting
Photoshop needs reinstalling

We've just downloaded Maverick and the new final cut 10.1. On two separate computers it has crashed and we have lost our entire project that we were editing. Not sure if it is a final cut problem or maverick. Any suggestions on how to get the timeline

We just installed maverick and the new final cut. On 2 separate computers we have had it crash while using final cut and have lost the project. Now we are reading that our time machine is not working with maverick. Any suggestions on how to get timeline back from the new final cut? Thought it was suppose to save automatically.
