How to config MSI GT70 Super RAID correctly?

Hi guys,
I got my MSI GT70 with the 64*2 SSD + 750 HDD configuration. It can only get a read speed around 650 MB/s in hdtune. I searched in another forum and found some one said "MSI representative told us our test unit was actually underperforming on the SSD front. Our machine clocked 656 MB/s read and 354 MB/s write speeds in the ATTO disk benchmark, but it's rated to top out at 900 MB/s when properly configured".
So does anyone know how to config the raid correctly to get a 900MB/s speed? Many many thanks!!!

Finally I manage to find out what is happening on my laptop. The Stripe size of my raid0 is set to 32KB by default. After I changed that to 128KB, the read speed show a 965MB/s max read speed in the HDTune benchmark.
These are the steps I did the change:
1. Backup the whole system. Changing the stripe size will wipe all the data.
2. Ctrl + I, go to the raid configuration screen.
3. Delete the existing raid setting.
4. Created a new one with stripe size of 128K.
5. Restore the system.
Hope my experience can give some hints to those who are confused by the same problem.

  • MSI GT70 Super Charger?

I am trying to charge my smartphone with MSI Supercharger, but it doesn't seem to be working as it is charging very very slow
-I am using MSI GT70 Laptop
-MSI SuperCharger latest version installed and confirmed running in background
-Latest Intel 3.0 USB drivers installed.
    I read the instructions at - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=149488.0
Watching that youtube video, supercharger has a icon in the taskbar telling you if it is charging or not. I have the latest version from the MSIGT70 page installed and I do not have that icon.
Also on the GT70 is it a specific port that is enabled for supercharger?
    Thanks

I think you can refer to this FAQ:
    http://www.msi.com/faq/nb-1193.html
And this is what I find in the user manual:
"USB 3.0 Ports/ Super Charger USB Port
Super Charger USB port provides faster power charging function for Apple devices when the
notebook is in power off mode."
The information I got from service center:
The maximum power Super charger port can support 1.5A output, the other 3 USB port can only provide 500 mA output.
When system is in S3/S4/S5 mode, you have to enable the item in BIOS settings "I-charger works at S3/S4/S5 state", as for S0 mode, I think it is still only the Super charger port can provide higher power, but it depends what kind of status your system stays at that time, because if you are playing online games or watching Youtube or any other heavy loading programs, CPU and GPU will get higher priority of gaining power and cause IO port lower its power output, that might be the reason you feel it is slower than a standard charger.

  • Yet another question about super raid - GS70

Yes, another question about Super Raid...I recently picked up the cheapest model of the GS70 on newegg which comes with 1 mSata SSD...just a mediocre one if I remember reading correctly.  I'm interested in using MSI's Super Raid once my warranty is over with and have been reading a couple posts here:
    1. Walk through of how to reinstall OS
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=167198.msg1224063#msg1224063
    2. I'll need a Super Raid card with links to get some, for about $100 each
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=171722.msg1252847#msg1252847
    3. I can't get Super Raid unless it originally came with it?
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=171185.msg1249640#msg1249640
So what's the bottom line? Would I still be able to enable super raid in the future or am I SOL since it didn't come with it originally?
    thanks!

The GT70 CAN come with an adapter that has 2 (on the older, GT70 0NX models) or 3 (on newer GT70 20X models) sockets for mSATA drives. It's an optional part, that takes place of the primary SATA drive in the notebook, and physically has a different part that connects to the motherboard. If it doesn't come with the SuperRaid adapter, then it just has support for a single 2.5" SATA drive.
The GS70 on the otherhand, has this built into the motherboard and there is no swapping it out for a normal 2.5" SATA drive. You can only use mSATA drives (on those ports). The GS70 is meant to be an ultrabook, and therefore does not have the same ability as the GT70 to house up to 2 full size 2.5" SATA drives.
That's really the main difference here. Without physically seeing a GT70 to see how the SuperRaid adapter works, it's slightly difficult to explain.
But in the end, I wouldn't worry about the SuperRaid....The GS70 should have support for Intel Raid Management Engine, in which case that's all you really need.

  • MSI Z87-G45 Super Raid setup questions

I have a MSI Z87-G45 board and two SSD's. I have never setup raids before but plan to do so. I saw there is a app to install for Super Raid. I thought I had to setup raid before installing windows? Seeing the app is something I can download from the MSI Live Update app it makes me think I can setup this up after windows has been installed. Is this correct?
If not how do I go about setting up Raid? I don't mind reinstalling windows if I need to. I did not see raid options in the Bios.
    Thank you

I bet that mSATA is controlled By that same controller and so you cant use some of your SATA port same time as you use those mSATA cards, SSDs,...
To need to get in BIOS and change to RAID makes it kinda HW RAID and so that "Best Solution" is kinda wrong. As you can format it in current Windows, but you need to reg edit before or you get Blue Screen and so cant get in OS.
You have had allways chanse to use diffrent drives like HDD's and SSD's in mix When they have same data cable like SATA. The speed and size, go like allways higer rules.
I need to read more in to this Super RAID. But i ges you arent in useing mSATA, so use it like normal HW RAID and get real intel drives for it (in USB stick) before os install and install them on screen you choose your drive. That way you dont need to update them after install
    Have great Hollydays! Cheers Mummy

  • GT70-0NC SSD upgrade with Super RAID

    Hello.
I have MSI GT70-0NC-51US laptop. It does not have RAID right now, but I purchased it with a thought in mind that I’d be upgrading it to Super RAID 0 as it was advertised, as some variations of this model already have Super RAID 0. Now I am ready to do it. This laptop has 750GB HDD and primary 128GB SSD. I will be replacing my current SSD with 2 new identical mSATA SSDs. What do I need for that? Will I be able to just plug 2 SSDs? Do I need to purchase RAID card from MSI? Which? How? And where do I get if I need it?
    Please help.
    Thank you.

This what MSI is saying "MSI Tech.   08/16/2013   After verification, since you did not purchase the SuperRAID model (SuperRAID is an option) the SuperRAID card is not available with this unit. Only models that came with RAID setup contains SuperRAID card. However, you can still do SuperRAID using 2x 2.5" SSD. Let us know if you have any questions, thank you.   "
    What does this mean? Really?
According to their web site from my model profile " Super RAID with 2 SSD RAID0 gives you over 800MB/s storage speed!!
The first Super RAID design—one notebook with two SSD mSATA RAID0 units, is yet another world first courtesy of MSI. Two mSATA SSDs and one HDD can be installed in the same laptop without the need to expand the size of the laptop, increasing read, write, and saving speeds.
*Please contact your local dealer for final sku"
    Is this a lie?
    Please help
    It most likely is.
    I don't believe that the GT70 0NC and GT70 0NE motherboards are different.
I wish I could take my laptop apart right now and show you, but basically, the SuperRaid and the normal SATA adapter plug into a connector on the motherboard. This connector actually has support for 2 x SATA disks. If you use the SuperRaid, you can use both SATA channels. If you use the normal SATA adapter, you only utilize 1 of the SATA channels (and the other is unused, and cannot be used). Since both of these adapters have the same plug going into the motherboard, one can assume that EVERY GT70 laptop has support for the SuperRaid ADAPTER, just not every laptop comes with the superraid adapter (such as your laptop).
Most likely, you'll have to see if you can search online and find someone selling the GT70 SuperRaid adapter, and buy that. Maybe talk to some resellers, usually they will sell you the parts as well.

  • MSI Super RAID 2 Triple mSATA Adapter Board

I bought the MSI GT70 2PE Dominator Pro 890 laptop.
Its the basic one with only 12gb ram and 1x 1tb hhd. It was $1800 vs the $2100 of the one that came with 16gb ram and a 128gb msata (includes raid board though)
I bought this one, as I already have a 1tb Samsung evo 2.5"ssd. And 2x8gb corsair vengeance ram sticks. Plus the 128gb board is rather small amount of memory, I use laptop for 3d animation and 4k video editing. 128gb would maybe fit a single project. So $300 difference for a $116 raid board, $40 4gb ram stick, and $55 for 128gb msata. I don't need/want the 4gb ram or the 128gb msata, so it would've meant paying $300 for a $116 msata raid board.
I have a raid nas server for my main editing, but when im on the go I want more storage.
I found this MSI Super RAID 2 Triple mSATA Adapter Board (supports 3 mSATA SSDs) 607-16F42-01S, its sold by MSI
    http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Triple-Adapter-supports-607-16F42-01S/dp/B00JDTUZUE
This would work right? I'm fairly certain. I would just need a bios update for the raid controller to be enabled, when I go to msi and drivers for my laptop theres always 2, one for raid setup and one without.
My main question is, this board accepts 3x msata, and msi brags about this and its 1500mbps capability. But I want to know if I could use this board and not use raid. Just have 3x msata as 3 separate drives. Then dump in 3x 1tb Samsung evo msata's. And if I can, would this controller allow all separate 500-550mbps transfer, or would it limit the individual transfer rates?

I was thinking that since super raid 2 or whatever its called, fully allows all three msata drives to operate with full bandwidth while theyre in raid, hence the 1500mbps read 1000-1100 write speeds, that all sata connections are indeed full sata 3 and with/without raid would still allow full bandwidth speeds. I guess im just curious about the controller itself, being able to hand 3 separate feeds and providing optimum bandwidth to each individual drive.
My 'ideal' plans, are 1tb Samsung evo msata x3 (though the crucial m500 480gb msata on sale for $200 are quite tempting), and my 1tb Samsung evo 2.5". I'd have OS on one msata, source files on another, and output files on the third msata, with temp file/cache/scratch disk being the 2.5" drive.
Either that, or pick up the last 8gb ram stick needed to max out ram at 32gb, make a 12ish gb ram disk for scratch disk. Then use the 2.5" for files and games and such.

  • GT70 question (Super Raid card)

    Hello All!
    Quick question, I'm interested in the new GT70 2PE-1069NL (1x 128GB msata SSD) or the GT70 2PE-1063NL (2x 128GB msata SSD).
Now, I'm wondering if the 1069 already features a Super RAID 2 expansion bay, so I can add my own msata SSD if I want to.
The difference between the two is €200,- and I'm wondering if it's worth the RAID 0 setup and the 4GB RAM extra. The 1063 also features a Blu ray player, but I won't use that.
Also, what msata SSD is in the 1069 and 1063?
    Thanks in advance!

Most likely they BOTH have the mSATA SuperRaid2 card.
For the €200, I would go for it. 4 GB more RAM, another 128 GB SSD, and a blue ray player to me makes it worth it.
No idea regarding what SSD or chipset it uses. It can vary from notebook to notebook since they will (most likely, I don't know this for sure...just guessing) probably buy whatever they can get for the cheapest.
Most likely it will be a SF2281 based card though. Atleast, that's my guess.

  • MSI GT70 Switch from RAID (2xHDD) to 1x SSD & 1x HDD

    Hi
I’ve a MSI GT70 (sry. I don’t know the exact model, but it’s the one whit the nvidia GTX 670M, Intel i7-3610 and 2x500 Gb HDD …currently it’s running Windows 7 and BIOS version is E1762IMS.30P).
Now I want to switch from RAID0 to 1x SSD (for the OS and co) and 1x HDD and upgrade to Windows 8.1.
    What I’ve done so fare:
    -   I’ve removed the old HDDs (Just to have a working system as backup…until the new configuration works)
    -   Installed the new SSD (Samsung 840 Evo Basic (750GB, 2.5") https://www.digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?Reiter=Details&Artikel=280458)
    -   Installed a normal HDD 500 Gb HDD
    -   Changed SATA mode in BISO from RAID to AHCI
    -   Installed Windows 8.1 on SSD
    My Problems:
    -   If I try to boot my notebook, I get a disk read error
    -   I tried to change the boot order so that my SDD is on the first place … But I don’t see the SSD in the BIOS
    -   If I remove the HDD and reboot with F11 pressed (Bootmenu) I can select my SSD and start Windows “without any problems”
Do you have any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Did you install Windows 8.1 in UEFI or legacy mode?
Your boot order should probably have "Windows Boot Manager" for the SSD if you have installed in UEFI mode.

  • MSI Gaming GE70 2PE(Apache Pro)+Super Raid SDD?

Hello guys.. i need help about this particular Laptop...im about to buy it in portugal...and my question is...Is possible to Upgrade de internal hard drive with the Super Raid SSD?.. i mean.. this pc have the slots to instal the two SSD? apart form the HDD 1000Gb...like other models.. that already have the x2 SSD + 1HDD included.
I know that this model only have 1 disk the 1000HDD...just wondering if is possible to instal a Super Raid SSD on it..
     Thanks

super raid SSD is only a function in laptop so any SSD should work as long it meets slots type like if it has msata then it's msata that counts for SSD or if it has M.2 msata or w.e new version is called then you gota make sure you buy that and so on.
Update: what i can see is that your model has 2x msata slots so you would need to buy 2x msata also you do need 2 screws since msata does not come with screws.

OC CPU maybe if you are familiar with the options, but let assume no or not recommended.
about the lag spikes, there is special EC ver for GT70 which improves GPU performance and reduces throttling.
    available at: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162629.0
NOTE: This special EC firmware is not for barebones, but only for retails models!
other reason could be that dedicated GPU is not used, but integrated card while running this applications.
    Or VGA driver issue.
