How to configure Airport Extreme to work with Spotify

Issue: Spotify no longer syncs Spotify files to my iMac or my iPhone despite me being a premium member. I've never had an issue with this until this past week. I can't see anything that has changed but I must be missing something. Anyhow...I'm posting this here because I need assistance with my Airport Extreme configuration (not Spotify).
According to Spotify, I am to configure my (Airport Extreme, latest gen) router to allow the following:
The following IP ranges should be open on port 4070:
78.31.8.0/21
193.182.8.0/21
The number 21 is the prefix length.
I've assigned the static IP to my iMac and my iPhone. I've also forwarded port 4070 (Public & Private UDP and TCP) to my iMac's static IP. I also tried it on my iPhone. What I don't know about is how to open the IP Range on that port as stated above.
Any idea where this can be done? Thanks!

Welcome to the discussion area, Meagan!
The Actiontec "modem" that you mention is really a gateway...a combination modem/router, so with this device and the AirPort Extreme, you have two routers on the network.
Whenever you have two routers on a network, the first router must be configured to handle the main routing chores and any other routers must be configured in Bridge Mode to function correctly. So, Bridge Mode is the correct setting for the AirPort Extreme when used with the Actiontec gt701d gateway.
In order for the AirPort Extreme to provide a Guest Network, it must be configured as the "main" router on a network. This won't be possible unless you can re-configure the Actiontec device to act as a simple modem, not a router. You might want to check with Actiontec support to see whether this might be possible.

  • How to configure airport extreme to work with Actiontec gt701d modem

I have been trying to set up a new Actiontec modem to work with a new Airport Extreme with no luck. I don't know what the right settings are to get it to work correctly. So far the only way I have been able to get the two to work together is to have the AE connect with ethernet and bridge mode. However with this configuration I can't setup a guest network which I would like to be able to do. I have read some past posts and have tried other configurations but end up either losing internet connection or getting a very slow connection. If anyone has some idea how to get this modem to work with the AE i would really appreciate some advice
    Thank you

I can't get airport extreme to work with iPad

Ok, thanks for clarifying that for me. We have two distinctly different printing problems. Let's try tackling them one at a time if you don't mind.
In order for the iPad to print to a printer it would either have to be AirPrint-enabled or you would need another solution, like PrintCentral for iPad or Printopia. Unfortunately, I don't believe your Canon printer is AirPrint-enabled. There aren't many printers on the market that currently are. All of them, that I am aware of, are HP devices.
Now for the PC. I would go with what you have already suggested and that is try disabling either the Windows or third-party software firewall. Which version of Windows is it running? Just in case it's XP, here are two excellent iFelix articles on how to do so with or without using Bonjour.

  • New Airport Extreme not working with my Quad Macpro

    Hi all-
My Linksys 902.11b router finally died and our household is now completely Mac-based (all with Airport Extreme cards), so I decided to take the plunge and get an Airport Extreme.
2 of the machines on my home's network are doing fine with the router and are getting good speeds - iMac Dual 2.4 (10.5.1) - Both the wired and wireless connections are solid with this machine / Macbook Dual 2.0 (10.5.1) - Both the wired and wireless connections are solid with this machine as well.
I have a Macpro Quad 2.66 machine running 10.4.11. I cannot upgrade to 10.5 yet on this machine since it's being used in my recording studio business and there are known issues with some of my apps and 10.5 at the moment.
The Quad can see the network and has seemingly strong signal from the Airport Extreme BS, but DHCP reception is inconsistent (the machine often eds up using a self-assigned IP for some reason) and IP connectivity in general is inconsistent, even when an appropriate static LAN IP is manually setup. I can often get to a few webpages while using a manually config'd IP, but only with very slow DL speeds and then the connection quickly disappears and drops out entirely.
The AExtreme is setup like this: DSL Modem-->Airport Extreme (config'd with a static IP from my ISP) -->DHCP broadcast dummy IP's to my network. Currently I've not setup any security since I'm in the process of troubleshooting and I don't want to further complicate the situation. Radio-mode on the AExtreme is set to 802.11n (b/g compatible)/Channel 1. I've tried numerous config setups on the AExtreme, but none have helped the situation.
I've also disabled IPv6 on all clients per some reading on the forums of possible issues.
Anyone know what the problem might be? Is it perhaps an issue because the Macpro's using 10.4.11?
FYI, I've also also got an extra Airport Express around that's not being used that could be used as a repeater/wired connection downstairs if broadcast strength is the issue, which seems somewhat unlikely to me. I'm not sure how to config the AExpress to work in this capacity though, so if anyone could point me to a tutorial I'd appreciate it very much.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lee

I just did some more testing using an app mentioned here on the forums, iStumbler. The app offered these details:
    - Signal Strength is between 45%-56%
    - Noise is between 24%-41%
    - Freq = 2412
    - No websites load despite it's seeing the router and saying we've joined it.
I also did a screen capture of the iStumbler's screen in case that's helpful. There were several bits of info I wasn't sure about.
    Here's the screen grab: http://www.pbase.com/infiniteposse/image/91793322/original

  • How to configure Airport Extreme AFP disk sharing to host multiple users' home-directories (Lion, using autofs)

I have this working, but only by completely bypassing access control, using guest access with read+write permissions.
Do I need to buy Lion Server, to do this. All my past unix/linux experience says Lion Server should _not_ be necessary.
This seems like a simple & obvious setup objective, but it is proving to be harder than I would imagine.
    Setup:
multiple users, sharing two mac mini's running OSX Lion
connected to an Airport Extreme (4th gen) with a USB disk shared (either via disk password, AEBS password, or using AEBS user's passwords).
After much experimentation and web research, I finally have managed to get the mini's to auto mount the Airport Extreme's AFP shared USB disk. Well almost... It only works if, on the Airport, I set the guest access permissions to read+write and select the "Secure Shared Disks" method to "With disk password" or "with Airport Extreme password".  In other words, it only works if I essentially bypass/disable access control by using the guest authentication mechanism to the AFP shared disk.
On the Lion side of this, I am automounting the users directories via "autofs". The config files for this are
    /etc/auto_master:
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master            # Use directory service
    /net                    -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home                   auto_home       -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    /Network/Servers        -fstab
    /-                      -static
    /-                      auto_afp
    /etc/auto_afp:
    # Automounter AFP master map
    # https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3336384?start=0&tstart=0
    /afp/users -fstype=afp afp://;AUTH=No%20User%[email protected]/Users/
Then, after rebooting and verifying read+write access to the /afp/users directories, I change each user's home directory: In System Preferences > System > Users & Groups, I right-click over the users to access the Advanced Options, changing the Home directory field to point at the AFP-mounted /afp/users/Users/* home directories.
I experimented with alternate UAM specifications, as well as both OSX and AESB users & passwords. Using guest access is the only thing that has worked.
    Any pointers would be appreciated...

Based on lots more experimentation which confirms the information in a parallel discussion (cf. Automount share as non ROOT or SYSTEM user! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3221944), I have concluded that the Lion 10.7.2 implementation of AutoFS mechanism is broken. I submitted a bug report via apple.com/feedback.
    Work arounds..?
Earlier I wondered if installing Lion OSX Server was necessary.  The more I contemplate this, the more I am convinced it _should_not_ be necessary. The client-server architecture is clear: my mac's are the file-server client's and the Airport Extreme is supposed to act as the file server. The only thing instaling Lion Server would do (besides enriching Apple.com) is enable me to configure one of the mac's as the file server. This would require it to be "always on" (thus enriching my electric utility as wel).  Okay, an additional benefit would be configuring software RAID disks attached to the Lion server, but Time Machine has worked fine for me in the past, backing up to disks mounted on the Airport Extreme.
One solution is to create a disk partition for each user and instruct each user to connect / authenticate to the Airport Extreme AFP share at login.  The multiplicity of partitions is necessary since the first user to mount the AFP share, takes ownership of it, blocking other users from accessing that disk partition.  A user can "steal" ownership by reconnecting, but this will leave the other user's applications & open files dangling.
This disfunctional situation really *****.  Before instaling Lion, I put a 64 GB SSD (solid state disk) in each of our mac's. I did this expecting to easily configure the /Users/* data on external networked storage. I'm having a dejavu "Bill Gates"-ware moment; problems like this were why I abandoned Windoz.
I will make a few more experiments using the depreciated /etc/fstab mechanism.  Maybe that will bypass the broken-ness of AutoFS...? Alternately, I guess I could also try to run Kerberos authentication to bypass whatever is broken in AutoFS, but that would require a running a Kerberos daemon somewhere.  Possibly I could configure a Kerberos service to run on both my mac's (without installing Apple's Lion Server)...?
    Stay tuned...

  • Airport extreme quit working with mac, dell etc.digital cable the issue? or?

Hi! I had luck here before, so I'm hoping I can find luck again! I'm with my folks, who run a Dell Desktop with WIndows XP Home Edition with cable modem, my Airport Extreme running wireless with my Macbook (listed) and an older than old dell notebook with a wireless card. It has been running fine for the last year.
Now, the new problem: My parents upgraded their phone to digital- so for the first week or so, every time the phone rang, I lost wireless- I presume from interference. On Monday, I was online, and was abruptly cut off. I was not able to get on again for the rest of the day. As sometimes the cable goes out- I didn't think much of it. Until the next day when I couldn't get back online, and the dell desktop could not get on either. My father called in to TW who walked him through several different solutions- none of which gave me wireless. I'm left with an old dell desktop to work on- (I'm a mac girl- I'm going insane). I need the stuff on my macbook- job applications to be sent, book writing for uploads- and my sanity back. Is it possible my Airport Extreme went? Is it the modem itself? Is it the wireless phone interference? My mac will show it can see the network- but can't connect to the internet- Any help at all will be greatfully accepted!
    Thank you!!

What is the make/model of the new modem?
Since it sounds like your parents now have VoIP as their phone service, it might more likely be a bandwidth issue as opposed to a Wi-Fi interference issue that you are seeing. This would make sense since the Dell desktop is not able to connect to the Internet either.
One thing to try is to perform a complete power recycle of all the network components to see if this resolves the issue of connectivity. The simpliest method would be to first power everything off. Then, starting with the modem, power it back on; wait 10 - 15 minutes, and then, power-up the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS); wait 5 - 10 minutes. Finally, power on the computers.

  • How to configure airport extreme (n) for 1G network?

the network is connected, but only at 100.
    the setup is:
Modem Thomson (dont really need it at 1000, my cable bandwidth is only 5Mb) -->
    Airport Extreme (n) -->
    Macmini C2D 2G and Imac 20" 2G (not C2D, the older one)
Both running 10.4.10 for intel, both have airport utility installed.
    thanks!

i still got nothing, i managed using cocktail to make the line 1G/half duplex, the line was active but the computer got no valid ip address from the airport extreme and could not no connect to it in any way.
so...what else to do? i bought the cables (cat 7) becuse i've been told the airport extreme will work at 1G without any problems, but all i get are problems.

  • How do I set up Airport Extreme to work with Steam?

    Hey all,
I bought an Airport Extreme the other week, and since then I have been unable to log onto Steam either through OSX or Win 7 Bootcamp. Since Steam worked fine with my previous router, a basic Thompson version, I'm assuming that I have to setup port forwarding or some such in the Airport app, but after googling the question I haven't found any answer that worked.
Has anyone had success in setting up port forwarding (or similar solutions) for Steam?
    Thanks in advance!

I have Steam and did not have to map any ports in order for it to work. However, Steam does provide a support site that indentifies which ports would be required if you want to pursue this.
If you need assistance with how to configure these ports on the AirPort Extreme, please post back.

  • Problem configuring new A1354 airport extreme to work with my older macbook

I just purchased a used A1354 airport extreme base station but when trying to configure for use, I'm getting a message from my airport admin utility that the A1354 software work work with my version of airport admin utility. It also says that I can't update the base station but may be able to reconfigure. I am obviously a very basic user so am struggling to find a fix. Can anyone help??

  • How to configure Airport Extreme SubNet?

My landlord has Internet access for his wired and wireless devices using an Airport Extreme with a wireless password he won't give me. He wants to keep his network private but said I could wire my own Airport Extreme to one of his Extreme's LAN ports if I could show him that I can't see his devices and he can't see mine.
His Extreme is configured to Share A Public IP Address. I'm worried that if I configure my Extreme like his that we'll have a DHCP or NAT conflict but I don't know how else to do it even though I read through Apple's document called Apple Airport Networks.
Can you help? Remember, we don't want to be able to see each other's devices. Thanks

Connect the Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the landlord's Airport to the WAN port on your Airport Extreme.
You must setup your AirPort Extreme to "Share a public IP address" as well and then assign a different DHCP range for your AirPort.
That will place your AirPort on a separate subnet, so you will not be able to "see" his network devices and he will not be able to "see" yours. This is not really "security" at all, but if both of you are willing, it can work.
Unfortunately, this will create what is known as a Double NAT error on your portion of the network. This is usually not too serious of an error on a simple network, but it will slow down your network communications and browsing a bit. You may...or may not...notice this.
However, Double NAT will cause some serious issues if you plan to use any kind of online gaming console. You will not be able to play interactively on the Internet when it is configured this way.
Setup is relatively straightforward for this, but you must use a Manual Setup option to configure your AirPort Extreme. AirPort Utility in Lion 10.7.3 will not work. You will need to download additional software to configure your Airport to work the way that you want.
Post back if you need a few more tips on getting this set up.

  • Airport extreme stopped working with dsl modem was set on ppoe and changed to bridge then lost internet does not show up in utility

No internet or discovery on airport extreme after trying to resolve a conflict. Switched ppoe setting to bridge as suggested by utility got solid green light but lost everything else to include discovery in utility.

having similar problem.  Internet is dropping frequently.  Modem appears to work OK when I connect laptop via ethernet and configure modem to PPOE.  After resetting modem to bridge mode and connecting airport, it'll work for some time but then I'll lose a connection.  it'll sometimes reconnect but not always.  using airport extreme as base station
recently added express as extender.  connected via ethernet and appeared to work for awhile.  still have drops.
then deleted extreme from network and tried to run with just express.  again, worked a bit but dropped frequently.
now back to extreme as base and express as extender.  with some fooling around, my Airport Utility still shows express as green.  Except it's unplugged.  so now airport utilitiy thinks there's a ghost router our there.  any usggestions on how to clear that?

  • Can't make Airport Extreme router work with non-Apple device

I am trying to help a friend who has a PC (Windows 7) that has a wired Ethernet connection to his girlfriend's Airport Extreme router.  He wants his Internet-capable Blu-Ray player and her IPad to wirelessly access the Internet via the Aiport Extreme router, with both the Blu-Ray player and the IPad's Internet access protected by WPA-2 encryption (both devices are capable of WPA-2).  How do I do this?
Here are the problems we've run into:
    1)  The Airport Utility for Windows (5.6.1) has been installed on the P.C., and we've used it to update the firmware on the Airport Extreme router.  However, after we followed the Aiport Utility instructions to set up the network, all the router wanted to do was look for an Apple device.  His girlfriend and her IPad are out-of-town right now, so the only device within range was the Blu-Ray player, and the router did not see it.  Not only that, but almost all the menu options on the Airport Utility were "greyed out" (unusable), except for "Configuration."  I am very troubled by the fact that the Airport Extreme router seems to want to look only for Apple devices.
    2)  In order to get Internet access for his Blu-Ray player for the time being, my friend pushed the "reset" button on the Airport Extreme router, and he can now use his Blu-Ray player for Netflix and other Internet streaming options.  However, the Blu-Ray's wireless Internet access is an unencrypted connection, and the Airport Extreme router is displaying a flashing amber light -- not a good situation.
    3) Although I know his girlfriend could access the router via her IPad when she returns, she is French-Canadian, and her IPad operates in French.  I happen to know some French, but I have enough trouble trying to understand  wireless networking terminology in English without having to try to figure out the equivalent terms in French.  Thankfully, the Airport Utility for Windows on his P.C. is in English, so that's what we've got to use to solve this problem.
I have profound respect for Apple products, but I'm a Windows/Linkysis router guy, so that's why I'm stumped.  Can anybody out there help me?

Which model of the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) do they have? What is the version of firmware that you updated it to?
By default, the AEBS will broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name (or SSID) of something like Apple Network NNNNNN. This would be similar to a Linksys when first powered-up.

  • I cannot get my AirPort Extreme to work with my new BT fibre modem which has replaced my Draytek modem.

I use to use a Draytec modem with my AirPort Extreme. All worked perfectly and the internet connection was configured as connect using PPPoE. Now I have a replacement mode fro BT to allow a fibre connection I can no onager get on the internet. What do I need to change. Do I need to change the internet connection on the AirPort Extreme to DHCP.

Yes, I do think it is no longer using PPPoE.. but the IP is configured to the fibre to ethenet or vdsl port.
You might need to ring the ISP and get them to give you details.
Anyway it is easy to try.. plug the Extreme WAN port to the new modem and test with dhpc. Check that you get a public not private IP address.
