How to configure listener across firewall and router

I am trying a test to see if the following scenario will work and I am looking for insight because I am not getting anywhere fast....
I have a computer on an internal network running oracle 9iR2. This computer has a web server exposed through a router/firewall with port 80 open. I want to open port 1521 and make the oracle listenser available to someone outside my network. The client only has internet access through their ISP. Basically it would be like hitting the web server over the internet. I am not sure if it is possible to use SQL*Plus to connect to a database server using the name of the router (www.company.com) and have the Oracle database available.

I have serious doubts that this will work.This sould working definitely. But this question is more related to networking than DBA.
So this action (and aalso analysis) must be done by somebody who are responsible for (and unsterstand) routing and firewall administration.
This "networking person" (credited as somebody before) must prevent unauthorized access to your DB and also prevent sniffing (for example your 3rd parties will be connected via IPSEC connection).

    Hi ,
     Have you got any additional public IP Address from your service provider , If yes on router you can have static route for those additional IP Address pointing to your ASA  outside interface .
    Accordingly you can configure NAT

    Hi Guys!
    I have a scenario here that i have three (3) group of users, one group is able to have an inbound and outbound mail, meaning they can send and recieved emails from internal and external.The second group of users should have inbound mail(local mail) only
    (cannot send and recieved mails from internet), and the third (3) user is they can recieved an outbound mail but they are not allowed to send mail directly to the client,(Ex.
    [email protected],[email protected],[email protected]) instead they will use the

    Thank you.
    regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    Great advice from Maganti, just elaborating steps:
    Prevent Group 2 send e-mail to internet by transport rule:
    1. Login EAC with administrator, Mail Flow---> Rule, click “Create a new rule, then give a name “Group2 - No Internet Mail”.
    2. Conditions: select "From a member of a distribution list" & select group "Group2"
    3. Select another condition "Sent to users inside or outside the organization" & Select Outside.
    4. Actions: select "send bounce message to sender with enhanced status code" & write your custom message like “You are not authorized to send mails to internet”.
    Prevent Group 3 directly send e-mail to internet, however it can send message as group:
    We also can create a transport rule which is same with Group2, then open Active Directory Users and Computers to add send as permission with another group (contain same users as group3).

  • How can I listen to itunes and play a game at the same time on my ipad 4?

    How can I listen to itunes and play a game at the same time on my ipad 4? This means I need to run 2 apps at the same time itunes and my game.  The game has its own sound control so I can turn off its sound while i listen to itunes tracks.  But I don't know how to set it up so the ipad does both.

    Anytime you open an app that has a persistant sound stream - a movie, a podcast, some games - it will overide the music app's stream. nothiong you can do to change it.

    I am playing music, by starting the Crash Baandicoot Nitro Kart 3D game it shuts off the music playing. Is there a way around this?
    It seems like this should be possible.

    Select the music play list you want to listen to and start it playing. Go back to the home screen and start the app you want to use, music will stop. Press the home button two time quickly and it will bring up a simple control for controling the music. This works for me with all of the apps I have purchased including games. Just a note you can pull up the same music control if the iPod is a sleep and locked by pressing the button three times quickly.

    Hi LRMCP,
    Procedure is perfect which is given by Benoit, just elaborating steps.
    Prevent form Sending Mails:
    Create a transport rule on Hub Transport Server:
    Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Transport Rules -> New Transport Rule -> Give Name “Group2 - No Internet Mail”
    Conditions: select "From a member of a distribution list" & select group "Group2"
    Select another condition "Sent to users inside or outside the organization" & Select Outside.
    Actions: select "send bounce message to sender with enhanced status code" & write your custom message like “You are not authorized to send mails to internet”
    Prevent from Receiving Mails:
    New User: You can select “require that senders are authenticated” while creating new users which will stop receiving mails from internet.
    User -> properties -> Mail Flow Settings -> Message Delivery Restrictions -> Properties -> set Sender Authentication.
    For Existing Users:
    You have already a group named "Group2" so set sender authentication for all members with this single command.
    Get-DistributionGroup "Group2" | Set-Mailbox -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $true
    Same procedure mentioned for group2 can be followed for Group3 to prevent from sending mails.

  • How to Configure Listener in Weblogic 6.0

    I have depoloyed my java application (war) in weblogic 6.0
    This application has to behave as a listener for a client socket call on a particular port (say 5588).
    This thing works fine in my WSAD environment with the internal server.
    How do I configure Listener in Weblogic 6.0 so that my deployed application starts accepting socket call as a listener?
    Please Suggest............

    Here's the flow...
    1) My application is deployed in Weblogic 6.0/7.0. It has to do an additional task of listening on an internal port (say 5588) apart from exposing server socket on say port 4499.
    2) My application during startup calls a servlet and via servlet init and routing thereby to different classes my application becomes ready to behave as Client Socket on 5588. I am copying web.xml along with this mail. Please review the web.xml and let me know if it s good enough to invoke the servlet during startup?
    3) A standalone java application tries to connect to my application mentioned above on port 5588 via a socket (localhost, 5588). Somehow my application doesnt seems to get hit. I did netstat and port was in listening mode.
    4) 5588 being an internal port, I dont think it needs to be configured in Config.xml. Am I right? I didnt find any way of adding new ports to Config.xml apart from standard port on web.

  • How to configure initial-context-factory and provider_url on Websphere MQ

    I have a few questions about WebSphere MQ. Currently, my application is able work well with other JMS provider. But I would like to move to use WebSphere instead.
    Can anyone suggest me how to configure the application connecting WebSphere?
         Im using the Initial java naming factory as bellows: com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactoryIs it the correct class?
         About the java-naming-factory-url, How do I know what object that I should use? I found this example in JMSAdmin.config iiop://localhost:7555 Whats iiop ?
         What jar file that I should add in my classpath?

    Hi,
    You have a few options...
    1. Use WebSphere Application Server as the JNDI provider
    2. Don't use JNDI
    3. Use the File System Context as the JNDI provider
    Exploring these options in a bit more detail...
    1. Use WebSphere Application Server as the JNDI provider
    Assuming you have WAS, the best way of obtaining your queue is to define the Queue and Queue Connection Factory objects in WAS using the admin console, then obtain them from the Initial Context as per the following article
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wasinfo/v6r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.websphere.express.doc/info/exp/ae/rnam_example_prop2.html
    If you prefer not to do JNDI lookups in your code a great alternative is to use Spring (www.springframework.org). If you haven't come across spring before it's well worth a look. One of it's many features is a bean factory for creating your objects. There is lots of support for retrieving JMS objects from JNDI, so in the main all you have to do is write some XML similar to the following...
    <bean id="jndiTemplate" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiTemplate">
           <property name="environment">
                  <props>
                         <prop key="java.naming.factory.initial">${jndi.initialContextFactory}</prop>
                         <prop key="java.naming.provider.url">${jndi.providerUrl}</prop>
                  </props>
           </property>
    </bean>
    <bean id="queueConnectionFactory" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
           <property name="jndiTemplate" ref="jndiTemplate"/>
           <property name="jndiName" value="${jndi.queueConnectionFactory}"/>
    </bean>
    <bean id="queueName" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
           <property name="jndiTemplate" ref="jndiTemplate"/>
           <property name="jndiName" value="${jndi.queueName}"/>
    </bean>There's a bit more to it than this, but not much. I've been meaning to write a tutorial on this for a while so if you're interested let me know.
    2. Don't use JNDI
    This approach involves using the creating the native MQ Queue Connection Factory and Queue classes. You can hard code this, but it's much better to abstract it from your application. Again you can use Spring. The definition would look something like the following...
    <bean id="MQJMS_TP_CLIENT_MQ_TCPIP"
    class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.FieldRetrievingFactoryBean">
           <property name="staticField">
                  <value>com.ibm.mq.jms.JMSC.MQJMS_TP_CLIENT_MQ_TCPIP</value>
           </property>
    </bean>
    <bean id="queueConnectionFactory" class="com.ibm.mq.jms.MQQueueConnectionFactory">
           <property name="transportType" ref="MQJMS_TP_CLIENT_MQ_TCPIP" />
           <property name="queueManager" value="${mq.queueManager}" />
           <property name="hostName" value="${mq.host}" />
           <property name="port" value="${mq.port}" />
           <property name="channel" value="${mq.channel}" />
    </bean>
    <bean id="publishInvoiceQ" class="com.ibm.mq.jms.MQQueue">
           <constructor-arg value="${mq.queueName}" />
    </bean>
    3. Use the File System Context
    The file system context is just like a JNDI context, but instead of using a url like iiop://host:port you have to specify a file system url. Because FSContext is just another JNDI context you can still use the spring configuration from option 1, but just change the relevant parameters.
    In order to define you queues and queue connection factory using the File System Context, you need to download a swing application called JMS Admin. Get it here
    http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24004691&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en
    With regards your specific questions...
    IIOP is just another communication protocol. If you want more details I'm sure typing "what is iiop" into google will provide plenty of hits.
    I'll do my best to answer the remain two tomorrow - I wrote an application a few months ago which used the File System Context, but don't have the details to hand.

    I have 11.2.0.1 and preparing for upgrade to 11.2.0.2. While upgrading the single node we have to set the new oracle_home then configure listener for new home then upgrade the db.
    How to follow the same steps in case of RAC. The listeners are running from grid_home.So how to create all the listeners for new oracle_home? So by just installing GRID binaries does is install the GI completely to 11.2.0.2?
    Also Do I have to plan for listeners while RDBMS upgrade ?
    ENV:
    Server: Windows 2008R2
    DB: RAC two node on ASM
    Storage: SAN
    Kindly explain.

    Sabastian,
    I have configured the 3 IPs for SCAN. When you replied for SCAN I checked the status of SCAN IPs. And the strange thing is on node 1 status of SCAN IPs gives "could not find the srvice name.
    On second node :

    Why it is so? Last week when I was working it was fine. So do you mean if I have three SCAN IPs, all three IPs has to be in listener.ora?

  • How to configure GlobeSurfer II umts modem router to act as just a modem

    Sorry if this has been asked before but after three days of searching I haven't been able to find an answer.
    I'd like to know how to configure a GlobeSurfer II umts modem router to act as just a modem allowing my TC to provide all the remaining wireless services.
    I know the combination can easily be made to work with the TC as in bridge mode but doing that loses features of the TC that I'd like retain.
    I've found a fairly comprehensive manual on line but it doesn't address my specific needs and I'm not techie enough to interpret the information that's provided into a work around.
    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
              many thanks for answering. GlobeSurfer suggested the following
    "the easiest is to use the Ethernet to connect the GlobeSurfer to your Capsule. Make sure that you have the 2 routers having difference IP address ranges and they don't overlap each other."
    That pretty much contradicted everthing I've read in discussions so I've asked for information on how to
    1. stop the GlobeSurfer from acting as DHCP and stop it providing IP addresses
    2. make the GlobeSurfer a client of the Time Capsule
    I was already using an e cable between the two but in the mean time I did the rest of what they sggested. The only warning I got on the TC was a "Double Nat" for which I clicked "ignore".
    As a result I have the two networks that I wanted, (one protected with private HDDs and printer attached and one guest), I can connect to the internet through both, I've been able to extend the main using an Extreme in bridge mode and there's no sign of a third network being produced by the GSII. I'm delighted and I'm stunned to say that it worked.
    It'll be interesting to hear what they come back with.
    Thanks again

  • Difference between Firewall and Router

    I can do VPN remote access configuration by using cisco firewall also I can do it using the cisco router by using the SDM program so what is the benefits from using the firewall or all of them are the same?
    I mean it's recommended to use the firewill? if yes, why ?

    Answer-
    1) WE can make Security-Level on Firewall,but router can't
    2) We can make firewall in multiple context(Virtual Firewall) but router can't
    3) We can create SSL VPN on Firewall,but router can't
    4) Whenever a packet inspected by Firewall and another packet comes with same contents then firewall didn't check that packet,
      but router checks all packets.(show connections)
    5) Firewall works as L2 and L3 both, but router only on L3.
    6) Firewall inspects packets on L3 to L7 but router works on L3.
    7) Firewall have Failover,router can't
    8) Whenever we take trace,then firewall cannot comes on picture,but router always shows as a Hop Count.

  • How to configure listener when 8.1.5 & OAS 4.08 on same Linux box

    Linux: Red HAT 6.1
    OAS: 4.08
    ORA: 8.1.5 sp2
    When I install OAS on different home on the same server where the 8i is installed and try to start up the lsn service for it I get an error. How the configuration should be done in this case where we have two different homes with two different listener versions? whcih one should be used ?
    Thanx
    null

    I did the manipulation...
    The listener starts well, but the creation of a DAD ( Net 8 service version, of course) is impossible. After the sys password prompt, it opens a blank window,
    and nothing more ...
    The dadadmin cgi has been started and is running on the server, but does nothing.
    Config : RH 6.1, Kernel 2.2.12, oas 4.0.8.1,
    768 Mo RAM, enough disk, TNS_ADMIN set for oas4.0.8.1 to the tnsnames.ora of Ora 8i, distinct ORACLE_HOME
    Any clues ?
    Thanks.
