How to configure wrt54g router as an access point when connected to a 3Com switch

I'm trying to use my linksys router as an access point to keep from having to make more network drops. I can't figure out which IP address/gateway to use on my router to get it to communicate with my switch. The 3Com switch address is 10.1.10.250, gateway is 10.1.10.1, netmask is 255,255,255,0.The linksys router has been reset to defaults.
I know that it can be done but I'm having the hardest time making it work.

For the DD-WRT firmware, you can try this link .
For the price of your Acess Point you can try this link .

  • How do I configure WRT54G as a wireless access point?

Ater a whole series of problems related to Vista, a WAP54G, Airport xpress, wireless printers, etc. plus at least three hours on the phone with Linksys tech support acessing my computer remotely and still not fixing the problems, I dumped my WRT54GC for a Belkin-N router.  I set it up over the weekend and slowly regained internet access, then the pinter, then the Airports.
I still would like to have an access point because my signal strength even with the new N router is too weak downstairs to allow my PS3 to connect to it.  I cannot figure out how to configure the WAP54G to make it work.  I want to take a shot with the WRT54GC.  From what I've read, I should be able to do it.
I can get into the router (referring to the Linksys) no problem.  I can reconfigure it to an extent, changing the IP address to the recommended 192.168.1.2.  I do this by running an ethernet cable from my PC to the router.  Howver, after changing the IP address in the router I can't get into it any more using the new IP address.  When I attach teh Linksys router to the Belkin I can't get in either.
Both the Linksys and the Belkin use 192.168.1.1 as the default IP address for each device.
I would like to know what settings I need to change i nteh WRT54G to turn it ino an access point -- an extenson of my existing network with teh Belkin router attached to the Comcast modem.  I have looked at various how-to's and they all seem to assume I am connecting the two routers with an ethernet cable.  If it's not clear at this point, I'd like to connect them wirelessly.
    Thanks.

Thanks so much for the reply.
I was working with it all last night and somethign strange happened.  After reading some other info on the internets, I changed the IP address on the WRT to 192.168.2.1.  It updated, I then ran the wire from the Belkin to the WRT, I typed in 192.168.2.1, it took me to the Linksys setup page, but when I clicked "wireless" in the WRT setup, it took me to the Belkin setup page.  How in the world did that happen?
Armed with tis new info, I did a hard reset on the WRT -- assuming it would change the WRT back to 192.168.1.1 -- got into the setup, turned off DHCP, left the IP as .1.1, and then wired it again into the Belkin.  I can now get into the setup of either one.
Here's the thing:  I don't want the two routers wired together.  I want to move the WRT downstairs so a PS3 can pick up the signal.  I want the WRT to wirelessly relay that signal to the Belkin to get the PS3 onto the net.  I can't run a wire from the Belkin to the WRT.
I've read conflicting reports about whether the  WRT can do this.  Other sites suggest adding 3rd party firmware to add that functionality but that will definitely push the bounds of my abilities and likely exceed them.  So, can the WRT even function in this way?
Inre the WAP, I don' know why but my ability to access the setup menu via 192.168.1.245 is very hit or miss -- much miss than hit.  It makes no sense unless there is a bad connection somewhere because I hard reset, wire it to my laptop, put in the IP, and time out 19 times out of 20.  I've got the MAC address for the router, and I think I know I want it to function as a repeater, but I've not been able to get that working right eihter.
    Thanks for any further reply.

  • How to configure MSI RG54SE II as Access Point ?

    I have an msi router:
    Firmware Version:
    3.5.2 Build 070402 Rel.60023n
    Hardware Version:
    RG54SE II v1 081520C2
And i want it to configure it as an access point to a wireless network/ or another access point . Can you help me on how i do this ?
    Regards,
    Daniel

Hi. I Had a similar problem and found a solution. If you have another device as your primary router then:
    1. connect ethernet cable from LAN port of your primary router to LAN port (NOT WAN!) of your RG54SE (I will just call it MSI).
    2. go to web interface of MSI
    3. if MSI has ip address in wan connection then release it. (Network->WAN) (I set my wan connection type to dynamic ip because there is no option to disable it)
    4. in Network->LAN set ip address different from primary router (but in the same subnet) and out of DHCP pool
i.e. if your primary router has ip address 192.168.1.1 and its dhcp pool is 192.168.1.100-199 then you can set local ip address of MSI to 192.168.1.2
    5. Disable DHCP on MSI router.
    6. If your primary router also has active wi-fi then you must switch MSI wi-fi to another channel, so they do not interfere with each other.
that's it! It's simple and it works!

  • How do I use a Dlink WBR-1310 router as an access point w/WRT54GS Router?

How can I set up my Dlink WBR-1310 router as an access point for the main router which is a Linksys WRT54GS?

I don't mean to be stupid but perhaps I was vague. I want to be able to plug the xbox 360 into the wrtu54g-tm using it as only a way to communicate wirelessly to my wrtg54G which is plugged into my modem. Are you saying that this can't work unless I try to use DD-wrt or something like that?

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Help, How to configure cisco ASA5505 to permit access to internal LAN

    Hi everyone,
Once more I am stuck into another dilemma , I have configured a Cisco ASA 5505 to allow VPN access from outside to my LAN using Cisco VPN Client software. The connection is establishing properly with the ip address from my VPNPool.
From outside (on VPN connection) I can ping the interface e0/0 (outside)  and the interface e0/1 (inside) of the firewall, but I cannot ping the layer 3 switch interface to which the ASA is connected ( int gi1/0/22 ip address 192.168.1.2/30 ) and I cannot ping any vlan interfaces inside my switch. Therefore, I cannot connect to any server on my internal LAN.
I hope my explaination does make sense, I am available at any time if further information is needed. Please find attached my ASA config.
    Best regards,
    BEN

    Many thanks Marvin,
I have configured the router ospf the way you instructed me, I have changed the VPN Pool to a complete different class of 10.0.1.0/24, I have also configured : access-list OUTSIDE_IN_ACL permit icmp any any echo-relpy and access-group OUTSIDE_IN_ACL in interface outside. but I can only from my VPN connection ping both interfaces of the ASA and nothing else.
Please find attached my ASA and the layer 3 switch configs. And also ASA and L3 Switch ip route output.
Note this: When connected to my VPN, cmd>ip config /all it showing as follows: ip address 10.0.1.100
                                                                                                                                   Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0

  • Setting wireless router as an access point

I'm trying to set up a wireless router as an access point for a wired router. The wired portion of the network is fine and the internet connection is working.  The laptop sees the wireless router and can log in to it.  However, the wireless router does not receive an internet connection and cannot "see" the wired portion of the network. I cannot log into the wireless router from one of the wired computers.
Below are the settings I'm using:
    Wired router--Linksys BEFSR41v3
     Obtain ID Automatically
     192.168.0.1
     255.255.255.0
     Local DHCP enabled
     Start # 192.168.0.100
     RIP Disabled
     UPnP off
    Wirless router--Linksys WRT54GS
     Automatic Conifguration DHCP
     192.168.0.2
     255.255.255.0
     DHCP Server off
     Firewall/NAT off
     UPnP off
Set to Router function (rather than Gateway)
I have had to set the laptop to a static IP, since it keeps revereting to a default IP.  It is set to 192.168.0.102, 255.255.255.0, Gateway=192.168.0.1, DNS=192.168.0.1
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As you have Disabled the DHCP Server on the Router and the Changed the IP on the Router to 192.168.0.2. the only thing remaining is the Connection part that is you need the Connect the BEFSR41 router from the Number one port to the Number one of WRT54GS that should Work. Please remove the Static IP Address from the Computers.

How do I get into iTunes to access Netflix, when I get "iTunes unable to connect until time has been set", after submiting my password?

You need to follow the instructions in this article that best apply to your situation:
Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
If you do not have a backup in either iCloud or iTunes, then you will have no way to retain the information on your device because you will have to restore it in order to access it again.

  • How do I set the transition between access points would be fine?

    Hello everyone,
We have an organization Wirless controller 2504 with 20 aironet access-point (700 series)
Once I defined  all the access points I noticed that the transition between them is not working fine...
I mean that clients can not walk around in our organization without having to connect to any access point separately.
How do I set the transition between access points would be fine?
    Thanks a lot (:

    HI Omri,
which software version you have on WLC ?
Is the site survey done propely ?
Remember: It is the client that decides when to roam and which AP to connect to based on what it perceives the signal to be.
If your site survey design is perfect and still have problems while roaming then:
Disable your lower data rates on the 2.4ghz and or 5ghz radio and your clients will roam better. Try to disable everything below 11mbps. and give that a try.May be old device will work in this case.

  • SpeedBooster WRT54GS droping internet at access point

Ive had this model for a few months and its worked fine with no drops with WEP security setup, i share my dsl line with another pc with a netgear adapter.  Recently however only one pc can use the line at a time, as soon as i turn on my main pc(at POST)(with modem and router attached) the line disconnects on on the other pc and the adapter cannot get signal again( internet works fine on main pc).  So basically i can't use the internet on both pc simultaneously.  This is obviously the point of having a wireless router so any help would be appreciated.  I have tried reseting the router to default settings and disableing zonealarm and norton on both pc. Ran antivirus and adaware on both as well.  Was considering either and restoration and if that doesnt work a complete reformat of main pc as i think it may be a program recently installed that is interrupting the signal.  Any ideas?

Its not possible to setup your Linksys Router in an Access point mode... To make your computers go online wirelessly through the Linksys Router  your Router should be Hardwired to your Modem or to your Office Physically..

  • Use WRT110 as a wireless access point to connect desktop computer to a WRT160N network.

I am having a problem setting my WRT110 connected to a desktop computer, as an access point to a net broadcast by a WRT160N. The WRT connects to the desktop computer, but does not see the WRT169N network. A laptop with 802.11g sitting next to the desktop is able to link to the WRT160N network, although the signal is weak, but workable. Has anyone any ideas on how to use the WRT110 as as access point rather than a router. I spoke with CISCO technician level 2, and he says it can't be done. CISCO website for WRT110 describes it as three devices in one, one being a wireless access point. CISCO technician says get a WAP, but I think I should be able to use the WRT110. Help appreciated.

Linksys Wireless Routers (WRT...) are simple access points. They don't establish a connection to any other wireless device. They only allow wireless access for clients. That's the definition for an access point: to be a point of access into the LAN for clients. It is a common misconception that a "wireless access point" would always include bridging or repeating capabilities although that is a completely different mode of operation.
What you want is not an access point but a wireless repeater (WRE) or a wireless bridge (WET) or a combination. The Linksys WAPs are versatile wireless devices which can be operated as access point, repeater, and bridge.

  • Define access point to connect?

A couple of applications on my phone, particularly Ovi Maps keep doing this and it's getting REALLY annoying.
Start using the application, it comes up with the following:
"Network connection required.Define access point to connect?
Then it'll give me a selection from a list of my networks various protocols.
It will regularly ask me again and again while the app is running, often coming up in front of other applications i am using at the time!
    How can I stop this?
I don't want to have to define anything for specific applications. I want my phone to connect in one of two ways without my input:
    1. If I am within range of a Wifi connection it knows, connect via that.
    2. If not, connect via 'O2 Active'
Is there a way I can set this so my phone just does the above and never asks again?

It is the Assisted GPS positioning method access found in Menu > Settings > Application Settings > Positioning > Positioning server use which keeps asking for a Network access point not OVI Maps application itself which may be set "Offline" or "Online".
If you have not set "Save location info" = No - in Camera > Options > Settings - you may get the same response.

how do I get rid of the green hue when connecting to my TV?

On the TV or iMac display and is Mirroring On or Off?
First check all of your cables, connectors and connections.
If it's a really strong green hue, then there is probably something wrong with the cabling or a connection.
If it is only slightly off hue, then go to: System Preferences > Displays > select the Color tab for whichever  and try selecting a different Display Profile or setting a new Profile by selecting the Calibrate.... button.

  • Can access internet when connected w/ethernet cables in router, but WRT54G says it can't connect

I have my router, modem, and computer all set up correctly. I can access the internet in this setup but with only the computer that is connected with the ethernet cord to the router. Yet, my WRT54G router can't connect to the internet in the Linksys easy setup nor through the http:192.168.1.1 method.
When I changed the internet connection type to PPPoE, my modem was unable to access the internet. I also changed the IP to 192.168.2.1 but that didn't help. I have performed several power cycles. I have upgraded the firmware.
I changed the internet connection type back to DHCP, so I am able to come on this website, but I can't set up the wireless since the router says it can't connect to the internet. Please help!

Start it from scratch...Reset your router and re-configure it...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Also make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page.
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this
To change the Wireless Settings click here and Enable Wireless Security
Now see if you can locate your wireless network on your wireless computer and attempt to connect...

  • How to configure WRT54G within VPN

    Hi,
In my area we usually get internet through a cat5 cable (uplink) that directly goes into computer's lan port, without using a modem.  Our so called Isp has made a network out of  a single internet connection and supply it by providing individual uplinks via switch to others.  In order to connect to internet we have to run a small software (or dialler) that authenicates unique user name and password and ensure that only one computer is connected at one time.  Once connected the internet stays live unless we disconnect it.  The connection detail as it appears in status tab is as follows:
    Device name   WAN Miniport (PPTP)
    Device type     VPN
    Server type     PPP
    Transports       TCP/IP
    Authentication  MS CHAP V2
    Compression   MPPC
    PPP Multilink framing   Off
    Server IP address       125.xxx.xxx.x
    Client  IP address       125.xxx.xxx.xx
    Local Lan connection status says:
    IP address          10.xxx.xx.xxx
    Subnet mask       255.xxx.xxx.x
    Default gateway  10.xxx.x.x
I need to connect another desktop (one at a time, which is permitted) wirelessly to internet. The idea is not to cheat but setup an arrangement where one can access internet whenever it is available or not in use by other computer.  I am using a Linksys wrt54g v.4 router and a wusb54g wireless adapter.
So far I am able to establish a good communication between router and adapter but no internet connection.  I have checked there is no mac filtering, direct connection works perfectly with other computers.
My os is xp pro, in a pentium 4 2.40g processor, with 512 mb ram.
Any help will be highly appreciated.  thanks in advance.
