How to configure WRT54GL as router only?

I already have a linux server doing all the routing for my internet connection. I just wanted to add Wireless access for wireless devices i just bought. So, i want to configure this wrt54gl only as wireless router.
So, I configure this wrt54gl as router mode. I connected this port 1 wrt54gl into my existing wired switch. I configure the wrt54gl to account lan IPs of 192.168.10.200 to 250. When I try to connect my wireless notebook, it can connect and get the IP. But problem is the notebook get gateway of wrt54gl. How can I make this wrt54gl to give out my real gateway, 192.168.10.1???
My linux server is the real gateway with IP 192.168.10.1
WRT54GL ip is 192.168.10.100
Do I need to connect the lan into the internet port instead?

Perhaps this is something to do with Setup --> Advanced Routing --> Static Routing??
I don't know what value to fill up. I tried just now and it caused routing problems. I had to reset the router to factory default and configure the thing again.
Appreciate any feed back.

    After speaking to Steve Hartman, I found that Nic is not needed for ICM CIM integration. So ignoring that error.

    I have an ISP providing a redundant internet circuit through Ethernet handoff, and I need to route their border network to my firewall which will hold the public IP address block.  The handoffs will go into 2 3750 switches stacked, which in turn will be uplinked to an ASA active/standby pair.  How do I configure the switches to handle the traffic?  The equipment isn't in place yet so I can't test the configuration; just trying to validate the plan.  I'm not sure of the pros/cons of using L3 switchport vs VLAN routing.
    Example, ISP provides 2 drops, 10.10.10.1/29 and 10.10.10.2/29, and a virtual gateway to route traffic out to the internet, 10.10.10.3/29 (FYI - in reality these are public IP's, just using privates for example).  Assume the public block is 192.168.0.0/24.  I need to configure the 3750 switches with interfaces of 10.10.10.4/29 and 192.168.0.1/24.  The ASA firewall outside interface will be 192.168.0.2/24.
    The ISP routes everything destined for 192.168.0.0/24 to 10.10.10.4/29.  I need to route all outbound internet traffic to 10.10.10.3/29.
    So the 3750 would have a layer 3 port-channel with IP 10.10.10.4/29 to uplink to the ISP drops.  It will also have another layer 3 port-channel with IP 192.168.0.1 (or should I use a VLAN interface for both or either?).  The ASA outside interface will be 192.168.0.2.  On the ASA my default route out is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1.  The default route on the 3750 stack will be 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.3.
    Thoughts?

    I have 10 different email accounts (for some weird reasons that i think irrelevant fir this question), and i want to use Mail app as my main client. iCloud, hotmail, yahoo, gmail, other imap and pop etc.
    Now the mail client is trying to download everything from the servers which is gigs of storgae space. I need to configure mail to only download titles of emails, not the entire email with attachments etc.
    I can do that very simply in MS Outlook, and even in the old outlook express client.
    How can i do that in Mavericks mail client please? I looked everywhere

    Try going to the web based site and see if you can set up a temporary folder there. Move anything you don't want to download to that folder.

  • Trying to configure WRT54GL Wireless Router

    I am new to networking and just purchased a WRT54GL V1.1 to allow wireless networking with my laptop. I am trying to configure the router with my desktop. I have Windows XP Pro and an Earthlink DSL modem (Zy-XEL P-600 Series).  The setup CD stopped at the "Confirm New Settings" screen saying "The router is not available to connect to the internet." I have tried resetting and recycling power on the router and modem. Support from Linksys has been poor due to the earthquake.  Any help is appreciated.

    There can be issues when going from a direct DSL connection to a router -> DSL setup.  The original direct DSL connection setup routine often configures your computer to interact with the DSL modem, providing the username and password to your ISP to allow a connection.  With a router, that now must provide the user name/password through the PPPoE configuration setup within the router.
    I've seen cases where I had to run Microsoft's Windows XP Network Fix utility on the computer to get the TCP/IP stack working properly again.

    I hesitate to post here -- I know that I should know my job. But here goes...
    Small business wants to use an ASA 5505 firewall on the edge connected to VDSL modem, and then an 881 to route internally (see attachment). The 881 has a downstream link to a 2960.
    Want the following "blocks":
    VLAN 33 - CLIENTS
    VLAN 55 - SERVERS
    VLAN 101 - CDLAB
    The lab is for testing, and will be connected via Cisco 2500 series router. The server farm (Server 2008 domain +) will be connected via layer 2 switch over VLAN. A DMZ is anticipated after basic connectivity is established. Connectivity is already verified from a client connected to the INSIDE interface of the ASA going to the OUTSIDE and back.
    Before I started I wiped the devices in order to start clean. Both the router and the switch are in vtp mode transparent.
    To build a trunk link, I connected the 881 and the 2960 using a crossover cable from int fa0 to int fa0/8 respectively.
    On both devices' interfaces I set switchport mode trunk.
    I configured the 3 VLANs on the 881, assigned IP addresses to them, and used switchport trunk allowed vlan add 33,55,101 to assign them to the trunk but that doesn't appear in the sh run output under the interface.
    I set both devices' to switchport nonegotiate (best practices?). Once again, on the 881 this command doesn't appear in the running config.
    I configured the 3 VLANs on the 2960, then used the same switchport commands as above to assign them to the trunk.
    Here's the deal.
    From a client connected to a VLAN 33 access port on the 2960, I can't ping, for example, the VLAN 55 IP address. I can ping the VLAN 33 IP address. I also can't ping the IP address of the interface on the far side of the router headed to the ASA (int fa4).
    What am I doing wrong? I'll gladly post the running configs if anyone wants to see. I've spent most of the day on this racking my brain and literally scouring the Internet. I'd be very grateful for some assistance.

    Yeah, I might not have been too clear. But on the router, each VLAN was created using the vlan 33 command (for example) and given a name. Then I went to int vlan 33 (for example) and used ip address 10.0.33.xx 255.255.255.0 for the address and subnet mask. Those have been in place since I started. And like I said, I can ping the SVI for VLAN 33, which is mapped to the client access port I'm on.
    The problem is, I still can't ping inter-VLAN and I still can't ping the far side interface.
    Bummer...

    Use the S_TABU_DIS and S_TABU_CLI authorization objects to assign the relevant authorization to the user.
    If you have created an IMG project, you can use transaction PFCG to create a suitable authorization for this IMG project. In transaction PFCG, you have the option of assigning one or several IMG projects. The corresponding authorization profiles are then transferred and can be defined as required.
    Create a new role for this in transaction PFCG. If you are processing the role, you can use the menu "Utilities -> Customizing authorizations" to assign the relevant IMG project and/or project views to the role. The role is then adjusted according to this selection.The user can then start the corresponding setting transaction from IMG.

    I'm not sure you can do it by fiddling with the cf file as I'm not sure the cf has the features you need turned on.
    You better off tweaking an mc file and generating a whole new cf.
    The bit you need in the mc file is

    FEATURE(`no_default_msa')dnl
    An alternative that I prefer is to create the file /etc/default/sendmail containing
    MODE="-bd -ODaemonPortOptions=Addr=127.0.0.1"

    I have two WRT54G wireless routers. One is currently providing wireless access for several users at a local law firm. I need to connect a second wireless router for a user who works for another company in the same office. The second wireless router is basically going to be used for Internet access. The Office Manager at the law office does not want the user from the other company using their wireless router directly, BUT they will allow me to hook up the second wireless router for Internet access. I realize this doesn't really make sense in terms of security, but this is the scenario I must abide to. So I am wondering how to configure the second router. I am thinking that I connect a CAT5 from one port on the first router to the Internet port on the second router. I am also guessing that I need to assign the the second router a static IP with a different subnet such as 192.168.2.1. I am not sure if the first router still has the default 192.168.1.1. If the first router does use 192.168.1.1 would I need to change the IP on the second one to one on another subnet? Thanks.

    You will need a setup like this:
    Modem  ---  new WRT54G  ----  existing WRT54G
                     192.168.2.1              192.168.1.1    ( "Local IP address" )
    Modem connects to Internet port of new WRT54G.
    LAN port of new WRT54G connects to Internet port on existing WRT54G.
    SSID:  different on each router  (do not use "linksys" )
    SSID broadcast:  enabled on both routers
    encryption:  recommend WPA2, or at least WPA  (can be same or different on the two routers).
    passwords:   different on each router.
    channel:  try to stay at least 5 channels apart.  Usually channel 1, 6, and 11 work best, but any two different channels can be used.
    Any "port forwarding" used by existing WRT54G must also be done on new WRT54G.
    Both routers need a real login password (not "admin" )
    New WRT54G will need "Intenet connection type" set to whatever is currently on existing WRT54G.  Internet connection type for existing WRT54G will need to be set to DHCP.

    You do InterVlan routing with your router, Fa0/1 and Fa0/0 is on your router, two different subnets with two different pools. From the router you have two uplinks - access links. These links are terminated on two different Layer 2 vlan on the switch. If Fa0/0 is terminated on vlan 100, hosts in vlan 100 will get IP address from Fa0/0's dhcp pool, if Fa0/1 is terminated on vlan 200 on the switch all hosts will get ip from Fa0/1's address space.
    Fa0/0 dhcp pool: address of the interface is in the pool
    Fa0/1 dhcp pool: address of the interface is in the pool, interface address is member of the subnet (that's will be the GW)

    Prevent Group 2 send e-mail to internet by transport rule:
    1. Login EAC with administrator, Mail Flow---> Rule, click “Create a new rule, then give a name “Group2 - No Internet Mail”.
    2. Conditions: select "From a member of a distribution list" & select group "Group2"
    3. Select another condition "Sent to users inside or outside the organization" & Select Outside.
    4. Actions: select "send bounce message to sender with enhanced status code" & write your custom message like “You are not authorized to send mails to internet”.
    Prevent Group 3 directly send e-mail to internet, however it can send message as group:
    We also can create a transport rule which is same with Group2, then open Active Directory Users and Computers to add send as permission with another group (contain same users as group3).

    Prevent form Sending Mails:
    Create a transport rule on Hub Transport Server:
    Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Transport Rules -> New Transport Rule -> Give Name “Group2 - No Internet Mail”
    Conditions: select "From a member of a distribution list" & select group "Group2"
    Select another condition "Sent to users inside or outside the organization" & Select Outside.
    Actions: select "send bounce message to sender with enhanced status code" & write your custom message like “You are not authorized to send mails to internet”
    Prevent from Receiving Mails:
    New User: You can select “require that senders are authenticated” while creating new users which will stop receiving mails from internet.
    User -> properties -> Mail Flow Settings -> Message Delivery Restrictions -> Properties -> set Sender Authentication.
    For Existing Users:
    You have already a group named "Group2" so set sender authentication for all members with this single command.
    Get-DistributionGroup "Group2" | Set-Mailbox -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $true
    Same procedure mentioned for group2 can be followed for Group3 to prevent from sending mails.
