How to confirm a successful LUN rebuild , after raid 5 Array rebuild. Disk Fail
I've been running a ESXI 5.5 host with various linux , BSD, and Windows VM's, recently had a Host kernel Panic as a result of SAS drive failure. HP proliant ML 350 G6 with a P410i raid controller, replaced HDA re-ran SMART smart to configure array. Rebuild was successful, C wont boot MBR or start up issues cant find mboot32 within systlinux . So re-installed ESXI 5.5 to flash drive booted ESXI from but cannot mount or scan datastores / or storage ISCSI controller to retrieve or extract VMDKs .
HELP please!!

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any idea how to re-initialize the drive? It now seems to be marked as spare(?) and any operations on it are rejected:
> sudo raidutil modify drive --removelocalspare -d 3 -r RS1
Modifying drives... FAILED.
The drive is in use and is unable to be set unconfigured.
> sudo raidutil modify drive --removeglobalspare -d 3
Modifying drives... FAILED.
The drive is in use and is unable to be set unconfigured.

How do i monitor the health of my Raid array?
First, I want to thank Harm, Bill, and all the countless others who continue to give great advice on this forum. My question is how to I monitor the health of my raid array and how to determine which disk is acting up. I am using a 3-disk soft raid 0 off my motherboard (gigabyte ud3p). Seems to work pretty well but occasionally has a hiccup in certain programs. I wonder if it is a sign of an impending problem or if it is just because it is a soft raid. I've tried several HD diagnostics (Crystal Disk Info, Active@, HD Tune, etc.) but aside from temperature, they don't give any info about the impending death of my raid 0. I have the SMART feature turned on in bios.
To premtively address the critics about the raid 0. I only do about one video a week and do a backup every night. So i figured it (and when) it crashes, i'll just lose a days work. The motherboard is suppose to do a raid 5 but it performed really poorly. My system is configured with additional drives (SSD boot, Raid 0 scratch, and final video) as recommended. Any advice would be appreciated.
michaelThe problem with almost all raid controllers is that they do not support SMART. So that is out. With software raids you are even more limited.
With hardware raid controllers you have web based interfaces that show some basic information, like this:
but software raids do not. There are two ways to determine possible problems, at least that I know of:
1. Use drive cages with LED's for the individual drives to show activity and inspect them visually.
2. Use old-fashioned manual labour to feel vibrations, temperatures and hear clicks on individual drives.
With only 3 drives in the raid, the chances of guessing correctly are 33.3% to start with and they only increase with manual inspection. A far easier job than in the case of 6 or more disks.
Sorry I can not offer better suggestions. -
How do I force a Mac Pro Lion RAID 5 rebuild after replacing a failed drive?
Hi,
My Mac Pro RAID 5 (with Apple RAID controller card and RAID 5 volume with 3 hard disks) showed degraded RAID set message due to failed drive. After I repalced the failed drive, I was unable to add it back to the RAID set. So I tried to removed or deleted this RAID set so that I can rebuild the RAID set from scratch. No matter what I did, I was unable to delete the RAID set using the RAID Utility. Can anyone help? Thanks.I have been posting in this forum several times yet I was not getting any help nor comment on my issue from anyone (except Grant above. Thanks and appreciate your support).
So I have to help myself by searching various ways to resolve the issue. I accidentally came across below findings and it solved my problem. So I thought I will post it here just to share with whoever may run into the same problem.
When I was trying to try to change to another harddisk, I noticed that I made a mistake in mixing up the drives when I put them back. That is for the last two drive bays(3 & 4), for some reason I put the disks backwards. That is drive 3 in Bay 4 and drive 4 in Bay 3. I did not realize that on the drive mount Apple actually labelled them as 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively for Bay 1 through Bay 4.
With the two disks installed in the wrong sequence and even though one of them is a replacement disk, Apple RAID controller card still boot up the RAID set but showing degraded RAID sets and everthing is normal except it would not allow you to make the replacement disk as a global spare.
After I put the disks in the correct order, I was able to use RAID utility to make the repalcement disk as a spare and the system starting rebudiling the RAID set automatically (thought it took three days to complete).
Now my system is back to normal working. So the solution is to insure the disks are installed back to the Mac Pro in the same order (sequence including the replacement disk) when the RAID was set up. This is such a basic matter and I don't know how I missed it. Hopefully sharing this experience will help someone who may have similar problem. At lease this is the first thing to check before going any further. -

HT4623 How do I return to iOS 6 after iOS 7 install has failed?
I attempted to update my iPhone 4s last night via iTunes on my Mac. I backed up my iPhone 4s via iTunes. iTunes prompted me that it needed to be updated which I did. Then I proceeded to update my iPhone and iTunes made another back up of the iPhone. The download failed a few times but eventually completed. Eventually the update was proceeding and then I got a message stating the update failed for a unknown reason. Currently the iPhone is unusable and shows the iTune + iPhone or connect to iTunes picture and iTunes give this message ... "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3014)." I tried multiple scenarios from Apple Support Communities and nothing has worked.
I used a another Mac with the previous version of iTunes to attempt a recovery and it seemed like it was working and then it gave me "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." When I look this up it points to a similar and potentially related issue with conneting to the gs.apple.com server. Is there a diagnostic tool that can confirm this?

I also have to HP_SSRD_LOG.SRD file. What Do I need to do now? Thanks.Recovery Discs failure is frequent, and unfortunately has many causes. Some things to try that have worked in other cases.>>
1-Enter BIOS and reset to Default settings. Usually it is F9 key, check bottom of screen to be sure. Next F10 to Safe & Exit. Run Recovery again. You can attempt it from the partition now instead of Discs if preferred by tapping away at the F11 key at start up.
2-Scroll down on the page and get> Bootable CD ISO and> ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd-a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. Once created, boot from it. Delete any hdd partitions, create one and format. Next try booting from Recovery Discs again.

HT201407 How to activate my i pad 2 after restoring
how to activate my i pad 2 after restoring
Full Error is
"Activation Failed
This iPad is not able to complete the activation process. Please press Home and start over. If the issue persists, please visit your nearest Apple Store or Authorized service provider for more information or replacement."
The device has not been jail broken nor has my computer jail broken any devices. The device was working fine on wednesday and I did a restore and wipe, to switch from one user in the family to another. When I went to restore, I received this error. I have been through the restore and update process (says updating firmware, etc.) but at the end of the process I get the same message.
My big concern is this is an iPad 2 I bought new years ago and I'll be upset if the Apple Store folks say, "sorry, hardware issue."

Mac Pro RAID 5 not rebuilding after replacing a failed drive?
I have a Raid 5 on a Mac Pro and one of the three drives failed. The RAID set was degraded so I replaced the drive and made it a global spare. At this point the Raid Utility is supposed to try and rebuild the RAID array but nothing happens. Any help?
Thanks. It appears that the two drives (drive 2 and 4) that were part of the raid set JBODSet2 are not attached to any raid set now. How do I get the raid set back?

My 3gs wont restore after ios 5 update. I have tried firmware restore and restore from backup, neither works. All I get is "iphone restore failed because backup session failed" Any ideas on how to make a successful restore with this ios 5 update?
I was having the same problem, I backed up my phone and then updated to iOS 5 and then it kept telling me it could not restore from my backup as it had failed. After reading a bunch of forums and posts and trying everything, I did manage to get it to work. I had tried the Time zone, creating a new computer user account, disabling anti-virus, etc.
It took a combination of things, one of which was disabling the anti-virus completely and copying the contents of the backup folder to my desktop and then deleting everything in the backup folder. Then I rebooted the PC, entirely disabled the anti-virus, copied the one backup I wanted to restore from the desktop to the backup folder and then trying to restore. Low and behold the phone said restoring from backup and I am back in business, so when in doubt, trying combining some of the fixes together. -
How to configure or remove LUN's?
a set of three OVM servers as 1 manager and two servers using SAN multipathing
SAN team assigned 3 new LUN's to my Oracle VM servers release 2.2.2
I went through the bellow in the first server and every thing went fine and I got to view the new added disks in # ls -l /dev/disk/by-id and # ls -l /dev/mpath/
# rescan-scsi-bus.sh _##the contents of this script is in the end of this page_
# mkfs.ocfs2 -N 8 -T datafiles /dev/mapper/mpath## (to creating cluster file system)
# /opt/ovs-agent-latest/utils/repos.py –n /dev/mapper/mpath## ( to add new multipath disk to storage pool)
# /opt/ovs-agent-latest/utils/repos.py –l (confirmed adding the disk)
then,, while doing the same to the other server and after running rescan-scsi-bus.sh script! I couldn't view the LUN's under# ls -l /dev/mpath/ but they were there in # ls -l /dev/disk/by-id as following
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Mar 24 13:41 scsi-360060e80054834000000483400009609 -> ../../sdgj
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Mar 24 13:41 scsi-360060e8005483400000048340000960a -> ../../sdgk
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Mar 24 13:41 scsi-360060e8005483400000048340000960b -> ../../sdgl
Now am stuck in the middle as I couldn't go forward to do the same i did to the first server and also couldn't delete those newly added LUN's from the second server

How to confirm the alerts automatically in the internet mail?
Hi,gurus:
I wanna know how I confirm the alerts automatically in the internet mail. Now we have to navigate to the alert inbox to confirm the alert, but can I do it in the internet mail? I have confirued the parameter in ALRTCATDEF->CONFIGURE->SETTING->INBOUND PROCESSING,but it didn't work.
Thanks in advance.hi,
I checked the library, and it says:
Confirming Alerts by Internet Mail
When an alert is sent by Internet mail, the Internet address of the alert user entered in alert configuration is entered as the Reply To address of the mail. An alert ID is inserted into the text of the mail. When the recipient answers the mail from the alert system, the alert is confirmed automatically. Inbound processing sends a status mail to the sender stating either that the alert has been confirmed successfully, or that an error has occurred. The alert ID must be included in the body of the reply mail.
My question is: How to reply the mail?Where do I write the the alert ID?any ideas? -
How to make the delivery cost changeable after cancellation of GR?
Create a PO (with Delivery cost), then GR (101) , then cancel the GR (102), but the delivery cost still cannot be modified eventhough the GR has been cancelled - how to make the delivery cost changeable after cancellation of GR?
Hi
"You are not allowed to add new delivery costs in a purchase order once goods receipt has been carried out as these would then be proposed in the invoice verification. The related posting to the clearing account for goods receipt and invoice receipt would not then balance, if no further goods receipt took place.
After the invoice has been received successfully, it is not possible to change the delivery costs in the order. This is because information necessary for problem-free operation is no longer available for the delivery costs that have already been posted for subsequent reversals or invoices, or the operation can no longer be done without errors.
It is also not possible to change delivery costs for stock transfers with SD shipping after goods have been successfully issued, as this can lead to errors during cancellation."
I think you have to delete the line item and create a new line item with revised delivery conditions..

How can I turn off the laptop after restoring it to factory settings?
Hello everyone
I am selling my Portege R830-10Q so I want to restore it to factory settings (out-of-box state) AND THEN TURN IT OFF.
I have successfully brought the laptop to factory settings by using the _TOSHIBA Recovery Wizard_ and choosing *Recovery of Factory Default Software (Recover to out-of-box state)*. However, at the end of the recovery process and after everything is re-installed I was not able to TURN OFF the laptop. I was only given the option of restarting it. After restating it, the Windows set-up process starts.
I don't want to set-up Windows, i.e. language, keyboard, user account, etc. I want to leave the Windows set-up for the person who buys the laptop from me. How can I switch off the laptop after the system recovery without having to set up Windows?
I'd really appreciate your help.
Regards
PedroWhen recovery procedure is finished and you are asked for restart just press power button and switch it off. I think it only thing you can do.
Anyway, why not to start Windows and go through setup option. New owner can change this basic settings anyway. As username put Admin and language and keyboard can be set as default.
For instance, if you have German recovery image set everything to German. New owner can change it anyway.
