How to connect a ADSL router to AirPort Extreme?

Hallo,
my local internet service provider forces all costumers to use their modem/router to connect to the Internet using a DSL connection.
I have one external public IP (v4) and the router has an editable IP for the LAN set to 192.168.1.1 .
The ISP router can act as DHCP server and NAT; I can disable the DHCP.
What I would like to do is connect it to the Airport Extreme WAN port and give all the control to the Airport extreme: I want to use his DHCP server, NAT, port forwarding etc.
My problem is that I am able to have Internet connection only if the ISP router has DHCP control and Airport Extreme is set to Bridge mode.
In this configuration, in the Airport Internet configuration panel, the connection is set to Ethernet, IPv4 is using DHCP, Airport IP is 192.168.1.133 and the ISP router has 192.168.1.1 . I also have the DNS IPs set to the ones suggested by the ISP and Bridge mode.
In this way it works: all computers can share Internet connection.
What I am trying to do is:
- disable DHCP in the ISP router;
- in the Airport extreme Internet panel I choose to manually setup IPv4 and I type the same vales it is getting when set to DHCP mode: 192.168.1.133 for the Base and 192.168.1.1 for the router using the ISP dns and I select Share pubblic IP. In the DHCP panel I choose 10.0.1 class.
I save changes and... I got that Internet is no working anymore and I cannot access the ISP router control panel.
Does anybody have suggestion about things to try to not use ISP router DHCP or configuration changes I could try?
Thanks in advance for any help about it!

Thanks for the reply,
at the end it seems that my airport extreme works too BUT with an error message saying "double NAT" and the front led turned to yellow. I have ignored such error because things seems to work and so the led color goes to green.
What I had to do here is:
- set previous router to IP 192.168.1.1
- turn off DHCP on my previous router;
- leave on the NAPT (NAT) service on previous router and set it with start and stop address to the same IP I am using for the Airport Extreme (192.168.1.100);
- open all ports and services on previous router by faking the mac address of the Computer's NIC I was using to configure router. I say faking because previous router wants to know for which computer the ports have to be open, so I had to use the same mac address of the Airport extreme. I cannot type it, previous router will get it automatically when configuring it.
- on the Airport Extreme, Internet side, I had to manually configure Internet options using Ethernet mode: I set the IP 192.168.1.100 for the Airport base. Then I have enabled DHCP on class 10.0.1.x .
Airport extreme seems to work with all features now, I hope that "double NAT" warning will not create any trouble. Anybody knows about that?

  • How to connect a hard drive on Airport Extreme (second edition)

how to connect a hard drive on Airport Extreme (second edition)? Does it need a special format? It is now fromat on FAT32, but i don't see it ??

The USB port your Mac is high powered. The port on the AirPort Extreme is not.
So, it tends to be borderline as far as its ability to supply sufficient power to a hard drive...even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
Often, users...including me....need to use a powered USB hub when they attach any drive to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
You might want to give that a try. Double check to make sure that the drive is formatted in FAT32 as well, since Windows NTFS or exFAT will not work with the AirPort Extreme.
Powering down and restarting the entire network.....modem first, then router, etc.....is something that you would always want to do after any change or addition to a network.

  • Trying to connect Verizon wireless router to Airport Extreme but error says Ethernet unplugged.

Trying to connect Verizon wireless router to Airport Extreme and error says Ethernet Unplugged.

So, AirPort Utility running on the Windows Vista desktop can "see" the AirPort Extreme and displays its icon, but gives that error message at some point in the setup process? How far does it get?
Other questions that may help me (or somebody else) understand your problem better:
Which of the pieces were verified as working before the introduction of the AirPort Extreme?
Did you have the desktop computer attached to the Verizon GT704WGB with one of the Ethernet cables you are now trying to use? Which one? Have you tried the other one to be sure it also works?
Are you using the same port on the GT704WGB? Have you tried another one?
If the desktop has multiple ethernet ports, are you using the same one?
Had you done any special configuration of the ethernet port on the Verizon GT704WGB to get it to work with your desktop?
What category ethernet cable are you using? 3? 5? 5e? 6?

  • How to connect to my router through airport

I can connect to my router configuration page when i use a direct ethernet connection, and use 192.168.1.1 in Safari.
However, does any one know how i access this page when the router is plugged into my airport base station, and i am wirelessly connected to the Airport network.
    Thanks.

Yes I know the IP address when connected directly with an ethernet cable- 192.168.1.1
This works fine with ethernet, but I wanted to see if there was a way to connect when the router is connected into my airport, and I am connected to the airport network. The Airport is distributing the IP addresses, and the router is in bridge mode, simply supplying the internet signal on to the airport base station. The base station is controlling my PPPoE.
My router has a configuration page with my web info, such as speed, and other statistics. It is useful to refer to to see if I am getting a good speed.
If it can't be done, then so be it. But just thought there would be a way to connect through the airport and on to the router.
    Thanks for you advice.

  • Connect MTNL ADSL Modem to Airport Extreme

    Hey All,
I have a MTNL ADSL WIRELESS MODEM ROUTER. The range from that router is not great and therefore planning to get another router (adsl or non) and thus make use the connectivity to the maximum. My problem is that in my house i do not get good connectivity due to concrete walls.
i want to buy AIRPORT EXTREME (N-dualband) because i can then connect my mac, ipad and iphones seamlessly and also create a NAS with a HDD attached to Extreme via USB.  I want to use the airport extreme to connect to the MNTL WIRELESS ROUTER  and extend the network with connecting the LAN cable to the MTNL MODEM ROUTER .I have read that  i need to work around some techincal aspecs for this (DHCP, PPPoE, reconfiguring IP, etc.). I am not a pro at all this therefore need a simple solution. Please do advice me on how to go about this procedure as i am really confused about this whole thing.
    What i need is :
MTNL Modem Router + Connect Airport Extreme, so that i can use the capabilites of the Airport Extreme rather then the MTnl rOUTER.
WOULD REQUEST AN URGENT HELP ON THIS BECAUSE I STILL HAVE NOT BOUGHT THE AIRPORT EXTREME AND IF THE SOLUTION COMES ACROSS THEN WILL BUY IT. OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE TO GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE (WHICH I DONT WANT TO).

Sorry, but I cannot tell from the information in your post what it is that you want to do.
You mention both an AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme in your post. Will the AirPort Extreme connect to the modem/router using an Ethernet connection and provide a wireless network that the AirPort Express will extend?
If yes, how will the AirPort Express "extend" the signal from the AirPort Extreme?  Will it connect using wireless?.....or.....Will it connect using an Ethernet cable connection?

  • How to connect a Philips fidelio to airport extreme?

I just purchased an Airport Extreme Time capsule. I cannot connect my Philips fidelio AD7000W to the network. There are no WPS button on the Airport Extreme. There is a WPS printer connection option in the Aiport app menu option but nothing for sound system. Anyone knows how to make the connection ?

Instructions on how to connect the Fidelio to a non-WPS supported router is covered in the User Guide starting on page 13. On step 4 you would enter the specifics for your wireless network. That would be the network name, the wireless security type & wireless password. You will also want to choose the DHCP mode as enabled for these speakers.

  • Loosing internet connecti when removing router from airport extreme network

Hello. I have an older airport extreme: the alien one. For years I have had the following setup:
Modem --> Belkin Router --> Airport Extreme --> wireless signal to macbook and hardwire line to mac pro. There is also an airport express downstairs acting as a relay to boost my wireless signal. At the time i did it I had other computers so i needed the router to distribute the internet signal. I no longer need the extra capacity as I now only have a wireless macbook and a wired mac pro. Unfortunately when I disconnect the Router and connect the modem directly to the airport I no longer get internet service at either computer. I can't figure it out. The Airport Extreme is already sending all the signals to the two computers...the router is just sitting in the middle doing ostensibly nothing at all. Why, when I take it out of the loop does everything stop working? Thank you!!

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Your AirPort Extreme was configured in "Bridge Mode" when it was used with the Belkin router.
Since the Extreme is now the main router, you must configure the Connection Sharing setting for "Share a public IP address".
If you are still using Tiger 10.4.x as your profile indicates, you may still have the application that came with this operating system...AirPort Admin Utility. I cannot remember back 4-5 years to tell you much about this.
If you have upgraded to Leopard or Snow Leopard, you'll use AirPort Utility.
I can help you if you have AirPort Utility. Post back if you need help.

  • Lost connection to Westell router after Airport Extreme Update

I've looked through the discussions and have seem similar issues but haven't found one that I could say "that's it!"
I use the airport card in my MacBook OS X 10.4.11 to wirelessly connect to my Westell versalink router and have done so for over a year. I don't have an AEB. During updates, I left the airport extreme update checked. Why? I probably wasn't paying enough attention.
So now I cannot connect at all - at home. It's stating that my password is incorrect. I can connect at work; no password is required.
I went to the Westell website and changed my Network (SSID) name and password. Now, I'm picking up this new network but I'm still being told the password is incorrect.
Can I uninstall the Airport Exteme Update (and pray that it works) or is that too easy an answer?

You are not alone, have a look at this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1015&start=0
Unfortunately, it appears that the 2007-02 update has broken Airport running on Macbooks and Macbook Pros that attempt to access wireless routers using WPA. I've spent a lot of time looking for a solution, and at this point there appears to be no reasonable fix until Apple corrects this serious flaw. If you have AppleCare, perhaps a phone call to them would help them become more aware of the situation. Until they do, many of us are without the use of Airport, particularly where it is not possible to switch off WPA in a shared environment (such as my office).

  • How to Connect a Thinkpad to the AirPort Extreme?

I have an AirPort Extreme router which I have been happily using for wireless internet access on my Macbookpro. Now my wife, with an IBM Thinkpad, with WindowsXP, wishes to use the same wireless access. The AirPort Extreme Setup Guide says that she should go to Start>Programs>AirPort. But she does not find AirPort there. What should I and she do (in babytalk please)? We tried, using our flash drives to transfer a copy of AirPort from my Mac to her PC, but that does not seem to work. Help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

frankxc, Welcome to the discussion area!
I'm sure that Apple's setup guide is expecting that you have installed the software from the disc which shipped the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) onto the Windows laptop.
Unfortunately in my experience the directions for enabling wireless on a Windows laptop varies immensely on what wireless hardware capabilities that laptop has installed and what version of Windows is installed.
I have a IBM Thinkpad and I can tell you that the directions vary immensely from the previous 2 Thinkpads I used.
I would suggest that you visit the IBM web site and try to find directions there.

  • HT4262 How can I connect 6 computers simultaneously to Airport extreme?

I have tried troubleshooting several ways and the some computers work and others don't. How can I connect 6 wireless computers to Airport Extreme?

    Matt
Is it possible to speak on the phone?  The situation is so convoluted it might be easier to help me get back on track in person. When I first had this issue I got on an apple site that had a chat room in which I typed in my problem.  After several missives back and forth, the apple technician asked for my number and we spoke on the phone. The technician walked me through rebooting the actual airport plug (as opposed to the router box) and got me up and running. Do you know how I can relocate that chat site for technical support?
    Thanks

  • Recommendations - UK ADSL router for AirPort

I've been having fun trying to configure my in-laws D-Link DSL-300G+ router with an AirPort Extreme.
I've resulted giving them my Asus AAM60xxEV so their AirPort network is working.
I've played with the D-Link but gather that it's really not AP compatible. If I'm to replace it can anyone recommend a decent ADSL router that will work with AP.
    Thanks,
    Jamie.

It is very nice to see all the positive comments made about ADSL Nation and our products. I thought I would just post an update those who are interested in what is happening at the moment.
The X-Modem has proven very popular and is an ideal companion to the Airport Extreme/Express. So people looking to buy one will be pleased to hear that we haven't dropped it completely, we are just revamping our product range. We have a new X-Modem called the X-Modem M3 in the works but due to problems with the manufacturing facility we use the X-Modem CE has sold out and we haven't been able to produce any more. The new X-Modem M3 will be in a silver metal finish so that it looks nicer along side the G5/Mini/Powerbook etc. We were expecting it to be available already but as seems to be a standard feature of the technology industry delays have crept in and I expect that mid October is the likely timescale for the X-Modem M3.
The AMX-64 is also now discontinued and is being replaced by the MRX-400 that is expected at the end of October.
Our latest product just launched on Friday the 23rd is the X-Station. The X-Station is basically a combined ADSL Modem, 4 port Router, and Airport Extreme (54g) compatible wireless. So for people considering what is the best option an X-Station or a combination of Airport Extreme/Express + X-Modem here are a few pointers to help you decide as both options have their benefits.
The chief advantage of the X-Station is that because everything is in one box you just have the one piece of equipment to set-up with just a single power outlet required. The provision of 4 Ethernet ports means that it is easy to connect a range of both wired and wireless computers to the X-station. It also means that combining all the features into a single box makes the combined unit costs about half of what the separates cost.
However the two can not be directly compared as there are some key advantages of the Airport Extreme/Express that no other wireless solution offers. The key differences for the Airport Express are primarily the USB port and the AirTunes features. The USB port allows you to connect a printer to the Airport Express/Extreme so that printing can be done without having the printer shared on another computer the X-Station allows connection of Ethernet and Wireless printers but a USB printer will need either to be shared via a Mac or using an optional USB print server. The AirTunes option as I'm sure most people already know allows iTunes music to be sent over the wireless link to play on a stereo connected to the Airport Express base station and this is exclusive to Apple's Airport Express. The other two key advantages of Airport Extereme/Express are the fact that having a separate modem means that migration to another broadband technology for example cable is easy by simply swapping the modem. Also if the wireless range on the Airport is not enough a second one can be used as a repeater (WDS) not available on the X-Station. The methods for extending the range on an X-station are by using a more powerful antenna or adding a second wireless access point connected via Ethernet to the X-Station.
I hope that the information is useful for those of you looking at your options and please feel free to ask any questions on the forum.

  • Should I disable the wireless capabilities of my Bigpond modem/router when Airport Extreme is connected?

Should I disable the wireless capabilities of my Bigpond modem/router when Airport Extreme is connected? I'm told that it's better to only use the WiFi capabilities of the Extreme and leave the Bigpond to feed to the extreme.

No, bridge mode would not be the correct setting for this.
Instead, look for a "wireless settings" tab or page that will provide the option to turn off or disable the wireless radio of the BigPond router.
If you are still having difficulty, it would be a good idea to post your question on a BigPond support forum or contact your Internet Service Provider.

How to set up Guest Network, while Airport Extreme is connected to Satellite Receiver?

Depending on how you have your AirPort Extreme configured to work with the satellite receiver, it may or may not be possible to enable the Guest Network function.
We will need to check some settings on your Mac or PC, but in order to do that, we need to know what operating system you are using on your computer.
If you have a Mac, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the computer screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.
