How to connect a Canon Elura 50

I have a Canon Elura 50 (NTSC Digital Video Camcorder) circa 2003.  I know I have connected it in the past to a former version of iMovie, but have forgotten the magic.
Now that I have iMovie 11 and a new iMac (late 2012) with Tunderbolt connection, can I connect the Canon for A) live video to use with Skype or FactTime, and B) to download movies recorded with this camera?
The Elura 50 has both USB and DV outs, but when connected via USB the camera appears to be invisible to iMovie, FaceTime and Skype.  I haven't yet tried the DV to to Thunderbolt yet (or to Firewire via a Thunderbolt adapter.
(In fact, I see no way in preferences to select an experior camera for FaceTime at all.  I also find no controls in System Preferences for adding second cameras to the iMac.)
Can anyone point me to specific or even general information about the proper connections for a second camera?  Help with connecting my Elura 50 would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi
I haven't yet tried the DV to to Thunderbolt yet (or to Firewire via a Thunderbolt adapter.
But that is the way to do it if Your Mac don't have a FW400 or FW800 connector.
BTW - the FW400 to FW800 converter works BADLY and is not recommended from me.
Your Camera has
• USB - to transfere still Photos from it's memory-card to iPhoto (or to Your Mac in other way)
• mini FW (FW100 - 4-pin) connector - to be able to Export DV movies to Your Mac and iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD or Adobe Premiere etc. There are no way around FW-Cable.
Yours Bengt W

  • Connecting to Canon Elura 100

Does any one know how can I connect Canon Elura 100 to new MacBook (no firewire port)?

    Hi,
Can you go to the Apple Icon and use the ALT key while selecting the first Item (About this Mac will change to System Profiler) ?
In System Profiler open the reveal triangles to Hardware > Firewire.
I take it that the Camera shows here ?
If so try try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down APPLE(or ⌘)ALT(⌥)+PR Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
If that does not work delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself (In your Home Folder/Library/Preferences) and restart iChat.
WARNING deleting this .plist loses any and all settings changed from defaults in the iChat Preferences
Font style, Colour, Balloon/IM colour, Incoming overrides, Saved Transcripts, Menu Bar icon, Alerts settings and so on,
    AND any Saved Status Messages.
The .plist does hold the info about which camera it can "See".

  • How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?

I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.

The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality.

  • How to Connect Canon ZR80 to my iMac

Can someone tell me how I would go about connecting my Canon ZR80 digital video camera to my iMac? Is it possible? The digital video camera has a DV terminal. I would really appreciate any help on this as I have lots of video tape to review and hope I can download it to my iMac.
Can it be connected to any of the ports on the iMac or am I going to have to take this to a camera store and pay them to download these videos onto DVD's?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

please help me, How to connect my printer Canon pixma MP160 to my mac OS X Yosemite?

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

I used Apple MacBook Air 2014 (13 inch) series with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 version...
And I have a printer of Canon LBP2900...
My problem is that, I can't connect my Canon LBP2900 printer with my new OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 version.
My previous OS X Mavericks is working well with my Canon LBP2900 printer...
But when I upgrade it to OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 version, my printer is not working...
Anybody please help me how can i connect OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 version with my Canon LBP2900 printer....
Thanking you.... Your suggestion in this regards is highly appriciate...

Your first step would be to upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6). To do that, you would need to purchase the Snow Leopard DVD. Following that you could determine how much further you could upgrade.

I connected my Canon printer to time capsule, and can print OK. However, I can't get the printer scanner to work. How do you set up the scanner with Time Capsule?

You cannot use USB. It has to be a network capable printer.. is it?? You did not indicate how it is connected.. but by wireless or ethernet then scanning is possible otherwise not.

  • Canon Elura 100 and Firewire 400

I had been happily using my Canon Elura 100 with my FW400 port up until I upgraded to Leopard. The FW400 port is home to my Lacie 250GB FW 400 external drive and prior to upgrading to Leopard I had no problem sharing the port when I needed to transfer video form my camera. Now that I have upgraded to Leopard the port recognized the external HD but not the camera. I tried uninstalling all cables and rebooting...to no avail. I tried daisy chaining the camera by using the extra FW400 port on the back of the Lacie...again to no avail. I am extremely disappointed as it should "just work".
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I found another reference to this camera from someone who couldn't connect when they upgraded from OS 10.2 to OS 10.3. Apparently the issue was caused by QuickTime. He got the connection working again after following the steps in KB 301852, Final Cut Pro: Restoring a DV device connection in QuickTime 7.
Remember to do the last step "Download and install the latest version of QuickTime for Mac OS X."
Give that a shot and see how it goes.

  • Digital video degrades in downlaod from Canon Elura MC40

Can anyone offer suggestions on how to correct for the video degrading once I download into a Powerbook G4 from a Canon Elura MC40? I look at the video on the computer screen and it is grainier versus a brilliant picture on the video screen. I don't know if it is settings that need changing or the firewire cable (non Apple)? Or do I simply have to live with it? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Daniel,
    welcome to this forum
    iM Rule No 47:
"Never judge pic quality on a computer's screen"
a Mac and a TV (camcorder) have two VERY different ways of displaying picture content.... iM has a feature to playout "live" the movie via firewire to camcoder+connect TV to it... search in "help"
also, in the prefs of iM you find a selection "better quality"

  • Connecting the canon SX50 to HDTV for video playback???

Connecting the canon SX50 to HDTV for video playback???
ok, Got this Camera, like it, except for a few confusing issues. I was told, in order to playback HD video onto my HDTV Samsung, with an HDMI4 on the left side of the TV, all I needed was a HDMI to HDMI cable.
(#1) Shut off both TV and camera, plug the cable into this HDMI plugin, turn on the TV and Camera power supply, and it should recognize, then start paying.
Well, I did it both ways, (#1) shut off, then turn on, and (#2) I just inserted the camera's HDMI to the HDMI4 while both were on, and tried opening up the Samsung's' Tools >Inputs, etc, and still nothing!
Is there an easy way to accomplish this?
The second issue i'm having , is how to shut off the slow motion playback, when viewing the videos, which were not recorded in slow--mo, and it's frustrating trying to playback in normal speed, but instead it plays in slow-mo.
I'm not quite sure I'm recording in full HD...The payback is only 60i

    Thanks grazie!
Well, i accomplished most of that and at least got the video on the display (Samsung Anynet HDMI3) But no sound!
I was also able to control the SX50 TV Display with my samsung remote, kool.
As far as the playbgack volume, I checked the camera, I did notice the OPERATIONAL SOUND was off, but when I played back the video on the camera itself, i did have volume.
On that subject of Slow motion videos, if i'm watching each video, then see one playing back in slow-motion, does that mean i actually filmed it in slow motion, without knowing? ( i can send it through Pinnacle Studio 15HD and speed it back up, but theres no background volume anyway)  if i did unknowingly videotaped in slow motion, i bettter be more observant in the future.
I'm going to increase that ''Operational sound'' on the tools / Camera and try to playback to see if I have any sound.
I have a Yamaha 7.1 reciever, and TV, BD player,Time-Warner cable all is connected to this receiver....I was pushing all buttons for inputs to see which one would work for sound with video, but could not find any.  Thanks, or grazie grazie!
