How to connect a DELL screen (DVI-D) to MacAir via Thunderbolt

Hello,
can one connect a DELL screen (DVI-D) (eg Ultraslim S2230MX) to a MacAir via the Thunderbolt outlet using a
Mini DisplayPort to-DVI-Adapter ? Does anyone have experience with such a combination?
Many thanks, Werner

The Thunderbolt to DVI adapter does not discrimate what monitor is connected to it via DVI.
So yes, you can connect your Dell monitor to your MBA using the adapter.

how to connect my sony blue ray play to wifi via my airport utility?

The airport utility has nothing whatever to do with the sony bluray player.
The airport utility is to setup wireless in the airport.. once you setup wireless then you use the sony setup for wireless in the player as per its manual.
Please do keep the wireless names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
As well as pure alphanumeric passwords if you want to do this successfully.

If FW is the only connection the camera has then yes Thunderbolt Firewire adapter is correct. It's available from a number of sources including Apples own online store, in the USA the link would be:

  • How to connect a 2nd screen

I'm going to college soon and i wanted to get some extra workspace. I wanted to maybe use my screen on my macbook and connect it together with my lcd screen from my old pc so that my mouse would go from one screen to the other but work as a unit. What would I need to do this and how would I do this.

The MacBook has an Apple-specific mini-DVI output for video. They sell 3 different kinds of adapters:
    mini-DVI to DVI
    mini-DVI to VGA
mini-DVI to Video (S-video and RCA composite video)
    http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=mini-DVI
You plug the adapter into the MacBook, then use the standard cable that comes with the monitor.
Your monitor may have VGA, DVI or both inputs, some newer ones have S-video and RCA also. The DVI signal is the best quality digital signal, but VGA can be pretty good quality also. The MacBook can go up to 1920x1200 resolution on the external monitor, in addition to the built-in display. When the monitor is connected you get some additional controls in the System Preferences: Displays. Arrangement lets you move the Menu Bar and Dock from one display to the other, and you can move one to the left or right to match how they are located on your desk. You may want to recalibrate the color profile using the Color: Calibrate option if you don't like the default color profile.

  • Connecting/syncing Dell Axim x51v to MacBook

Does anyone know how to sync/connect a Dell Axim that's running Windows Mobile v5.0 to a MacBook that's running Leopeard? I tried doing this with Bluetooth and USB via an application called "The Missing Sync" from MarkSpace and neither of them seem to work. Please help with this if anyone knows how to do it.

I don't think the problem is with Markspace, I think its with the Dell Axim x51v. When I connect the Dell Axim x51v to the MacBook via USB, the MacBook does not even recognize it. When try to connect via Bluetooth, I can create a partnership between the 2, but I cannot transfer files from the Axim to the MacBook even though I have all the intricate settings correct.
Has anyone out there been successful in syncing a Dell Axim x51v to their MacBook?

  • How to connect 2 computers via firewire

Can someone tell me how to connect a laptop computer to a desktop computer via a firewire connection, so that it shows on the desktop computer like a mounted server (i.e., not in target-disk mode but as a connected server)?
I want to be able to plug a laptop into a desktop, via the firewire cable, and then synchronize various folders. But I can't seem to figure out how to "mount" the firewire computer, as a server, so I can navigate to the folders.

See this about ethernet networking. Also know that your firewire disks may not work in this mode.

  • Connecting 2 dell monitors via DVI to MBP.

    Hi folks.
I want to have 3 screens in total.
1 built in MBP dispaly + 2 other dell displays.
Obviously there is just one display porton my mac, how i connect the other two dell dispalys to my Mac.
The Dell's have display port, vga and DVI ports on them.
Do i need to purchased a cable or adapter to achieve my desired configuration.?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You didn't specify the sizes of those monitors.  But assuming the resolutions fit within the limitiations of these adapters you could use something like the following for one of the displays:
Newer Technology USB to DVI / HDMI / VGA HD Video Display Adapter
Or just search for USB to video converters.
For the other you could use a DVI adapter directly into the video port.
The reason the monitor sizes is important is because for resolutions above 1920 x 1200 you need a dual link dvi adapter for dvi connection.  So assuming you have a mini-displayport (or thunderbolt) video port (you didn't specify your model of computer either) then you could use,
    For single link DVI:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to DVI Adapter
    For dual link DVI:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt + USB to Dual-Link DVI Adapter

  • How to connect Macbook to TV through Dvi to VGA adapter.

I recently got s Macbook and was wondering how to connect it to my 32 inch sony tv. I have the dvi to vga adapter and recently bought an adapter that converts the VGA into RGA adapters + S video (all of which my tv has) When I connect the TV with these components nothing happens. I am curious to know what the next steps are to getting the Macbook to recognize the tv and how to produce an image on my TV. Any input would be helpful

what plugs do you really have.. that was confusing? This is a Macbook (not pro)?
First, it could be as simple as going to System Preferences|Displays| and choose to "Detect Display". It may not be recognizing you plugged something in.
If you want to connect you should probably get the proper Apple mini-dvi adapters to match exactly what your TV has. I use the adapter from mini-DVI-to-DVI with my DVI-ready TV and it works great. They have one adapter for mini-DVI-to-VGA, and one from mini-DVI-to-Svideo. Note that multiple adapters assume you have 100% compatible input when often adapters "cheat" on the actual output side... data and signals are probably not getting thru... your Mac can't recognize the TV as connected.
If you want to live dangerously, you might try using the mini-to-DVI adapter with a DVI-HDMI cable (single cable, no adapter) and see if that works (HDMI is a legit DVI spec so it should work, it works in reverse for my DVD player to TV connection)
