How to connect a midi keyboard to garageband.

I installed the driver for my yamaha keyboard.
I connected the out plug to the in port
I connected the in plug to the out port
My computer sees the midi connection
when i test output connection under "audio midi setup", it works and makes the keyboard sound
How do I get the input function to work>
I want to press a key and not only see a signal in garageband, but hear a sound.
HOW DO I DO THIS?
right now my computer and teh cable lights up and recognizes the connection, but how do I get a sound.

ok, i opened a software track and a real instrument track before, and when i recorded nothing ..no notes or sound, .
BUT yes, the little blue dot blinks every time i hit a key, just no SOUND.
so now what do i do?

Hi. I have a Yamaha PSR-172 keyboard that I would like to connect to GarageBand. Today I bought an M-AUDIO Midisport Uno. I have it connected to my USB port on my Macbook Pro and to the Midi In/Out on the keyboard. I've been trying to make the keyboard connect to the computer for almost an hour, and have tried everything. I even watched several YouTube tutorials, which I tried to mimick, but still no results. 1. Does GB tell you "one midi device detected" in the Preferences under Audio/Midi? If not, you need to update the driver for the Midisport from M-Audio's website.
2. Did you connect the midi out of the keyboard with the midi in of the Midisport? That's a very common mistake people make.

Once the pedal is depressed while playing a given note, from then on, the pedal itself plays the note every time it is depressed. It's not the keyboard or the pedal. I've tried others. That leaves the app or the connection between the iPad and the keyboard. I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who is experiencing this problem. Anyone have a fix?

Yes. There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections. I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it. Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work. I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup. Some MIDI devices have a USB port on them, in which case you can use that. Other devices will require a MIDI to USB interface, which can either be a cable or a switch box that can handle two or more MIDI channels, including input, output, and passthrough.

Resounding note with a MIDI keyboard in GarageBand

Hi everyone!
I am having a problem with a resounding note with a MIDI keyboard in GarageBand. I am running the following:
GarageBand Version: 10.0.2
Keyboard: Korg PA50
Macbook Pro 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB of RAM
OSX 10.9.4
What happens is when I am recording, one note (could be an Eb, could be a G, the note changes each time) continues to sound after I have stopped recoding and taken off the sustain pedal and my fingers off the keyboard. It happens for virtual instruments that don’t even sustain using the sustain pedal such as an organ. The solution to this is to select a different virtual instrument and reselect the one I was using. This is not great especially in the middle of recording.
If anyone has any ideas, that would be much appreciated! If you need any extra info, please ask!

To anyone with this issue, I have resolved it. I was using a third party USB-MIDI cable. I bought a new proper one for $65 (NZ Dollar) and have had no problems since. Hope this helps!

Help needed in connecting two midi keyboards to Logic Pro.

Hey there, I would like to connect two midi keyboards to Logic Pro and enable each keyboard to trigger separate software instruments each. For example, one keyboard has guitar and the other has strings.
I realise this must have something to do with midi channels or ports, however my knowledge is limited.
At current, I just have the two keyboards connected via usb straight to the computer. Is it possible I need a multi input or output interface, so that Logic can recognise different ports, or channels? Perhaps there is simply something I need to do in Logic itself? the keyboards are basic M-Audio midi controllers, just a usb port - thats it, no other connections. Any help would be great, Brad.

yes you need also to change the out midi of the keyboards.
in my case I have the Keysation 61 es, it's done this way:
"Channel
MIDI data from the keyboard can be sent on any of 16 MIDI Channels. However, certain MIDI devices and MIDI software applications require
the keyboard to send data on a speciﬁed channel. If this is the case, you can change the channel the data is sent using the following
method:
< Press the Advanced Functions button to engage Edit Mode.
< Press one of the 16 Channel keys from D1 to E3, according to the Channel that you need.
For example, if a device speciﬁes that you need to send data on Channel 10, press the Advanced Functions button, and then key F2 to select
Channel 10.
The Channel can also be assigned to the Octave “+” and “-” buttons. Once assigned, pressing “+” or “-” will increase or decrease the channel
incrementally. When Channel 16 is reached and “+” is pressed, Channel 1 will be selected. If the Octave “+” and “-” keys are selected to vary
the Channel, the lights above the buttons will not change, since it is not possible to have a Channel with a negative value. Pressing both the
“+” and “-” buttons together will recall Channel 1."
Can you please tell me what keyboards do you have?
this is for two players having a go on completely 2 different parts.
In case you want to record 2 tracks with the same content say a piano and a pad,
all you need to do is open the tracks and rec enable both and you have piano pad.
Anyway I believe you need to have two separate sounds for two players?
Give us some more input of what you want, there must have one or more solutions to what you need.

How do I use a midi keyboard as an input device on garageband? Its an oxygen 61 board. I'm using an iPad camera connection kit and a separate power source for the midi but each time it says it cannot use the midi as it requires too much power.

I have the same problem with my iPad and 61. Sometimes it says device not supported and sometimes it rants about power - any solutions anyone ?

I have found a nice cheap MIDI keyboard, which I must use with GarageBand. I have an iMic, with which I can plug in my guitar. But this keyboard only has a MIDI output port. Is there a MIDI to USB cable, or MIDI to 3.5mm (iMic) cable that I can use. If so, who makes it, where is it.

Do you have blue tooth swithched on? You can check at System Preferences/Bluetooth. You will need it switched on for the devices toconnect.

ANd he may have been able to. There's a lot of pages out there with things you used to be able to hook up via the USB part of the camera connection kit. But that OS tweak last year altered the amount of battery power allotted to the 30 pin port - which the USB plugs into - and rendered many of those devices now unworkable.
You can try it of course, and some have reported success if they plug those devices first into a powered USB hub then into the iPad (use the powered hub to overcome the lack of output power from the iPad).
The old reports of things that no longer work are very frustrating.

I have your same model and I'm using a mini display port to hdmi when I want to connect right to a TV. Is it not detecting, or is it a blank screen etc? What TV are you trying to connect to?
