How to connect a time capsule with an ATT Elevate Hot Spot

Hi,
Need help connecting my time capsule to my ATT Elevate Hot Spot....since I have no ethernet connection.
Thanks!

Not sure how much we can help on this, but as a test, if you turn off the wireless on your MacBook and connect it to the router using an Ethernet cable, you should be able to log onto the Internet.
If you can, you know the Ethernet connection is working, and it will be a simple matter to connect the Time Capsule to the router and get it set up.
If you cannot get an Internet connection when you connect the Mac directly to the router, then more troubleshooting will be required.

You cannot extend or repeat a non-apple router in an apple router..
You must plug it in via ethernet and then setup roaming network (or if you like a completely separate network.. makes no difference from the TC point of view). TC is in bridge mode. That is router bridge not wireless bridge.. I gave the info on the other thread you are running.. very confusing when you ask in multiple threads.

  • I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help, thanks.

I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help?  thanks

Just need to plug the TC in to the hub in bridge mode.. do not try and bridge the homehub.. it is not possible with the setup BT uses.
To bridge the TC.. plug it directly into a computer by ethernet.. no other connection to the TC or the computer.
Press and hold in reset until the front LED flashes rapidly.. about 10sec.
    Release the reset.
Open the airport utility and setup the TC to bridge mode.
The actual method depends on version of the OS and airport utility you use.
    This is version 5.
Sorry I cannot post the v6 as I am on a snow leopard computer now. But you go to the network tab, and choose off bridge mode for method of connection. It will be NAT and dhcp by default.
Then setup wireless.. you have a number of choices here.
Either setup with the same SSID Security and password, as the homehub uses.. or a different name, and password..
Each method works fine.. but you sometimes have issues with wireless channels.. for now leave it on auto and see what happens.. if you have issues lock down the radio channels on both devices.. use one out of the following on each, 1, 6, 11 or 13 in UK.. so say 6 on the homehub then 13 onthe TC.
Update the TC.. unplug fromt the computer and plug it into the homehub.
If you have other issues with the setup tell us what OS you run so we can post suitable screenshots.

  • How to set up time capsule with BT Infinity

how to set up time capsule with BT Infinity

The easiest and sure way is to use bridge on the TC as the method of connection. The TC then becomes a device in your network and gets its IP from the main router that I presume BT supply.
    Method is,
    1. Plug the TC WAN port into the BT supplied modem by ethernet.
    2. Plug the computer you are using for the setup into the TC by ethernet.
    3. Run the airport utility .. go to internet tab on the top menu..
In the bottom option, Connection Sharing choose off (bridged mode)
    4. Go to the wireless page and setup wireless connection as you like it.. using whichever band you want. And make sure security is set to the highest setting, wpa2 personal. Put in a decent wireless passkey.
    5. Press the update and fix whatever else the TC will show as needing fixing.. usually security stuff.
    6. You can then disconnect the ethernet and connect by wireless if you want. Any port on the TC will now be a LAN port, including WAN.
This is assuming BT supply a wireless router with built in vdsl/other type of modem. If so you normally will not be able to bridge the modem, unless BT are using pppoe authentication which they haven't in the past.
If you really need to use the TC as a router then you will need to work out an alternative method. You can double NAT by placing the TC in the DMZ of the BT router if that is an option. It is not without issues in general.

  • You must have connected the Time Capsule with a router that does not work with my direct cable from my ISP

you must have connected the Time Capsule with a router that does not work with my direct cable from my ISP

I tried to answer in your other post.. please stick to one thread ..
What method of internet do you have.. is this fibre install.. if so the TC should just plug in and use dhcp in router mode.. press and hold the reset and it will go back to router mode by default.

  • Can i connect my time capsule with my router as a bridge ?

can i connect my time capsule with my router as a bridge ?

I am a bit lost .. did you work this out?? You are running a second thread.. and answered it with this question.
The TC can be bridged.. plug it into the main router by ethernet and run it in bridge mode.. that is router bridge.
    Do you mean wireless bridge??
If you mean wireless bridge the answer is maybe but unlikely.
If you setup the TC to join a wireless network.. it becomes a dumb client not a bridge.
So to get it to wireless bridge you need to use another apple router.. that is the only way to get them to work.
If you want specifics ask specific questions.

  • How to connect a Time Capsule to an existing Airport Extreme?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to my broadband internet modem. This Airport Extreme is also connected to my audio system to be used by iTunes.
Recently I brougth my Time Capsule from another location to be included in the Airport Extreme network. I want to continue using Time Machine on the Time Capsule, and iTunes on the Airport Extreme.
I could get this to work, by connecting the Time Capsule to my modem, and setting it up to extend an existing network (the Airport Extreme network). Airport Extreme and Time Capsule are situated next to each other. However, performance of Time Machine was horrible, far too slow. If I connect my MacBook to the Time Capsule by an ethernet cable, it does not work.
When I set up the Time Capsule to create another wireless network, performance of Time Machine is okay. I cannot use iTunes on the Airport Extreme in that case. I have to switch networks for that.
I'm sure it should be possible to have both an Airport Extreme and a Time Capsule in one network, use iTunes on the Extreme, and Time Machine on the Time Capsule. But I do not know how it should be arranged.
    Can anyone solve this problem?
    Greetings from Holland, Koen

+What surprises me is that with setting 1 (TC joining AX) the Time Capsule has an option to extend the range of the network being joined.+
Yes, but it will only "extend" if you have a newer version of the AirPort Express, the 802.11"n" version. If you have an older "b/g" version of the AirPort Express, you can set the Time Capsule to "extend", but it won't and you'll have problems.
+With setting 2 (AX joining TC) the Airport Express does not seem to have this option.+
This probably confirms that you have an older "b/g" version of the AirPort Express. It does not have the "extend" feature.
+Could it be this option (which I did not switch off in my earlier experiments) which gave me such terribly bad transfer rates to my Time Capsule harddisk?+
That's probably the reason since the older version of the AirPort Express cannot be configured to "extend".

  • How to connect my time capsule & macbook to the internet?

I purchased a Time Capsule last weekend to back up all my photos etc.  I was able to set up the Time Capsule with Airport Utility and now have my home network set up, I can easily get everything I need on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009, Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 if that helps?) EXCEPT I can't get the time capsule to connect to the internet.  For some reason whenever I want to access my pictures or the time capsule, I have to connect to the wireless network but if I want to connect to the internet I have to reconnect to my old wireless network.  I have tried everything but just can't get it to work correctly! The Time Capsule light has only ever flashed orange at me...

time capsule should be in bridge mode and plugged into your main router so it is part of the existing network.
Bridge on you Lion version is easy as you can still download and install a real utility.

  • HOW TO SET UP time capsule with time machine?

I have not been successful in setting up time capsule with the time machine, can someone give me steps to follow?

What part are you having problems with?  You need to make sure File Sharing is enabled on the Time Capsule (which is done in AirPort Utility).  Then you just connect to the Time Capsule either wirelessly or via ethernet cable and when you go to Time Machine setup your computer should recognize your Time Capsule as a valid storage for Time Machine backups.

  • How to connect Airport Time Capsule to WD Live TV

I recently bought an Airport Time Capsule with 2tb storage. I am wanting to access the media files I save to the Time Capsule on my WD TV Live. I have tried doing wirelessly and it works but if I shut my computer it disconnects and wont automatically connect to it even if my computer is open. I keep having to delete and readd the Time Capsule as a media share server everytime I want to access the files. What am I doing wrong???
The bigger question I had is since the Time Capsule has a USB port and so does the WD TV, can I just connect them and access the files via usb to usb??? I dont mind using wifi to connect but if it can be done I would rather connect without wifi so that if my internet goes on the fritz I can still watch movies and stuff from the time capsule hard drive.
Thank you all for any and all help!!!

The media files on the TC are in what format? WD Live can read almost any format but it cannot read iTunes Libraries.
There is a fairly long discussion already on getting WD to read movies from a TC.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5226379?start=0&tstart=0
    Note the info there.
eg SMB naming for the TC.. this is most important. Standard Apple names will be problematic at best.. useless and non-functional at worst. Make sure the WD Live sees everything in the network with standard windows names.
The bigger question I had is since the Time Capsule has a USB port and so does the WD TV, can I just connect them and access the files via usb to usb???
No, you cannot do that. The USB on the TC is for plugging in a printer or a hard disk. It has no access whatsoever to the internal disk.
However the WD live can present its USB disk to the network. So if you simply plug a USB hard disk into the WD live. And you can then copy your movies to the WD over ethernet or wifi (ethernet is obviously faster) but once on the USB drive then it won't matter if the internet is off or even the local LAN and wifi is off as the WD can still play the movies. IMHO that is the best way to do it.

  • How to Set Up Time Capsule With Airport Extreme and Airport Express

Just got a new 1TB Time Capsule. I want it to be the main base station for my network. I already have a network set up with an older Airport Extreme base station and an Airport Express to extend it. I am thinking that rather than setting up the Time Capsule to "join" the old network, the best approach is to disconnect the Airport Extreme and Airport Express and reset them. Then set up the Time Capsule as a brand new network and bring the reset Aiport Extreme and Express onto the new network as if my original network never existed.
Is that the right approach or am I complicating it? Can I just join the Time Capsule to the existing network and still make it the main base station for the network?

I'd first use AirPort Utility to "Save a Copy As" of your AirPort Extreme settings. Then disconnect it, connect the Time Capsule in its place, and use AirPort Utility's "Import" function to read those settings. (Both of those functions are under AirPort Utility's "File" menu.) You may have to adjust a few settings. Once you have the Time Capsule working as you want, you can reconfigure your AirPort Extreme unit as you wish.

  • How to use the time capsule with my existing router?

Here is my situation. I have Alltel PCD UM185 USB modem for their mobile broadband internet. I have a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router which I plug the usb modem into to share the internet through a wireless network which has WPA security on it. I want to use my 1TB time capsule to backup the computers in my house wirelessly and not as a router. What connection do I need to make and how to do I setup the time capsule this way? I can't figure it out. Thanks for any help in advance. If you need more information just ask.
    Thanks,
    John

Steven's solution will work just fine if you want to connect the Time Capsule using ethernet.
You might also consider configuring the the Time Capsule to "Join" the wireless network. In this type of configuration, backups would occur only over wireless and you could locate the Time Capsule virtually anywhere it can receive a good, strong wireless connection. Important Note...the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you will not be able to connect using ethernet.
Open AirPort Utility and click Continue
Then select the option to "Join a wireless network" and follow the prompts

I am trying to figure out how to access the content on my time capsule with my apple tv.

I assume that you have your iTunes Media folder located on the Time Capsule.
If so, enable Home Sharing on the iTunes host computer. Do the same for the Apple TV and the media folder content on the TC will become available.
