How to connect HP Pavilion to HD TV as monitor

Bought an HP Pavilion P6204Y approx Dec 2009. Would like to attach the PC to my Panasonic TV as it's monitor (just got rid of cable). PC only has VGA & S out. TV only has S and HDMI in. YouTube says to use DVI to HDMI. Can I add DVI to this PC or am I stuck with VGA to HDMI, or  S to S....are those 2 choices even viable and would the picture quality be any good with either of those options? I have rarely used my PC (prefer laptop for everyday use) and would hate to have to buy a new PC. Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance for any help, advice, guidance, etc.

JAR1969, welcome to the forum.
You can add DVI to the computer, but it means adding a new dedicated video card.  Since most newer mid-level cards require at least 350W to 400W to operate properly, a new power supply unit (PSU) would be necessary.
I like OCZ and Corsair PSU's.  Either will provide you with clean, stable power.  Be certain that the PSU that you choose has the appropriate PCI Express power cables to power the card if necessary.
I like XFX, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY video cards in that order.  This is due to many years using different brands and frequenting enthusiast forums.

  • How can connect my Macbook Pro to a TV Monitor ?

How can i connect my MacBook Pro to a TV monitor other way than 15 pin cable ?

I would check out Monoprice. I bought this cable for my late 2011 MBP - it attaches to a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort and then out to HDMI. It's just a small adapter - under $7 - and worked quite well for me. You'll have to get a HDMI cable of your desired length to work with it. I also suggest using Monoprice for HDMI cables - they've excellent quality and low prices.

  • How do connect my sony bravia tv as a monitor screen for mac pro

How do I connect my Sony Bravia tv as a monitor for my MacBook Pro? I have an hdmi lead with an adapter to the computer and get a picture of factory setting cosmos with some of the folders of my desktop going off the side of the tv screen.

If you have the right cable, and have set the right input on your Sony, then you need to adjust one thing.  Go to System Preferences>Displays>Set Mirroring.  I think you've got it set to Extended desktop, which means the Sony is just a HUGE extension of your Mac OSX desktop.
    That should fix your issue.

  • How to connect my Cinema Display as a second monitor

I just purchased a new 27-inch iMac, and I explained to the Apple folks that I had a 17-inch cinema display (silver clad model) that I wanted to connect, for a dual monitor set up. They told me just to get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, but I was surprised to realize that's not going to work.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, and what connector is actually needed? I have the big old white power brick that I bought to daisy chain my old 17 and 23 inch displays with my old configuration (Mac Pro).
Or can you not have a second monitor with an iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

What connector is on that Cinema? ADC, VGA, or DVI?

  • How to connect a lenovo c200 to an external monitor

    Hi to all!
I'm carlo from italy and I need your help.
    I have a lenovo 3000 C200 type8922
my screen is broken (see a small black  circula area (I close the lapton and a pen was in)  with different vertical lines with grey, gree, violet and black colors. If i move the mouse i could see these lines move but i don't see the arrow, i don't see nothing clearly. The pc works because I can turn on or turn off using keyboard tips.
I tried to connect it with a monitor (VGAcable) and with a tv (svideo cable) tusing fn+F7 function but nothing!
Fn+F7 doesn't works and I don't know why, How i can fix this problem? any tips?
    thank you in advance

To get the display on external monitor as it does not need the extra configuration unless some additional feature is required.
I suggest you to connect the external 15" or 17" monitor with display port and transfer the display once you start the laptop do not wait for Windows screen to appear.
Best would be make the laptop boot into BIOS and then transfer the display to external monitor.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj

  • How to connect a MBP to a BENQ external monitor using a HDMI cable and a HDMI to mini display adapter?

Hi, I have just bought a brand new HDMI cable and HDMI to minidisplay adapter  and tried to connect my Macbook Pro up. The external display knows it is there but it is not getting any signal. I have tried on another TV and it also says no signal and I also tried using another Mac but it still didn't work.
    Can anyone help?

In some versions of Mac OS X, with the Displays pane open, holding the Option key will show the detect displays button in the lower right.
I am using OS X Mavericks. Where did the Detect Displays button go?
You can find the Detect Displays button in the Displays section of System Preferences. Once there, press and hold the Option key to see the Detect Displays button in the lower-right corner. You can click this button to manually detect another display.
Another technique is to sleep and wake your computer, which will send the detect display sequence as well.

  • How to connect a cinema display and a VGA monitor to mac mini

I bought a Macmini and want to connect to a cnema display and to a monitor that uses VGA connection. I also bought a MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter but the MacMini only has ONE Minidisplay port.  I thought this would be more straitforward....

I'm unsure of the issue, the Mini has both mDP and HDMI outputs, right? If so, the mDP for the Cinema Display an a HDMI to VGA adapter for the 2nd monitor.

Any ideas? Is there some sort of switch? I don't want to keep changing the display connections all the time.
I understand there is a usb display connection to the mac but I do not need both the lcd tv and external monitor to be on at the same time.

  • How to connect my desktop to my tv

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial on how to connect my Pavilion Slimline s3120n to my HD tv?
The computer came with the  built -in TV tuner card and various cables. I would like to watch the free Netflix "watch it now" movies on my big tv screen rather than my 19" computer monitor.
    Thanks for your help.

    Well, I looked into your tv tuner, and you can use S-Video for video and your audio cable, that should've came with the computer, to convert the headphone jack to audio Left and Right. The quality of that cable is going to be not very good so you may want to just get a dvd player and hook it up to the tv instead. Just letting you know of your options. ^_^;

HOW TO CONNECT TO A FRIEND WHO IS USING APPLE NOTEBOOK FROM MY IMAC SUGGEST ME WAITING FOR A SOLUTION FROM APPLE TEAM SUPPORT

    Hi,
Typing in all upper case is regarded and shouting here.
Presumably as you have posted in the OS X 10.7.x (Lion) area you are running this version of the OS on your iMac.
This will have iChat 6 on it.
This can use AIM, Jabber and Yahoo IDs within the app.
Apple IDS ending in @mac.com and iCloud issued @me.com and @icloud.com are also Valid AIM Screen Names.
If you use Googlemail and Enable "talk" in the products there you can then use your Google Mail ID as a Jabber ID (although it has it's own Add Account option in iChat)
Facebook has an option to Enable "Chat" which will give you a Chat ID variant on your name there and this can be used in iChat (or Messages) as a Jabber ID.
The Yahoo Account will only do Text chats.
It also has to be an actual ID registered at Yahoo.
Chats are then AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber or Yahoo to Yahoo.
So your Buddy will also need a suitable ID or Screen Name  for the relevant service.

  • How to connect sound or audio to my tv using hdmi adapter. I tried to connect thru sound settings but my tv is not found.

how to connect sound to my tv set using hdmi adapter. Im using 2009 macbook pro 13". I went to sound settings then output and it shows internal speaker built- in, it wont locate my tv set. pls. help, thanks

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.
Check your MacBook Pro model year against the list in this Apple tech note:

  • I need to know how to connect my macbook to the tv

I ordered the mini dvi adapter for my macbook 13in and obviously it connects to the computer but i have no idea how it connects to the tv. Where does it go? and do i need something else to help connect it to the tv? I am really confused please help.

Yep, Apple makes adaptors to go from the mini DVI on the macbook to almost any type of input that you TV will have. First check the back of your tube to find out what kind of input it has, and order the appropriate adaptor.

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

How to connect my MacBook Pro to the TV using HDTV cable

I am assuming your TV has HDMI connector.
In that case, if your MacBook is the retina-one, you have HDMI connector there too. All you need is HDMI cable to connect teh two.
If your MacBook has thunderbolt port instead, you need Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable.
    Hope this makes sense.
