How to connect macbook to Sony tv

Hi there,
I spent most of last night trying to get this done! No problems with the vision, cable between Macbook and HDMI input on the TV is fine.
I have a 3.5mm Jack to Phono lead which I thought would work for the Audio.  No sound. Maybe I'm not setting the Sony TV up properly, or I'm putting them in the wrong inputs (I've tried the all I think). There is a headphone (3.5mm) on the TV...but surely that's an output.
Help please!!

Hi there and thanks for getting back to me! Sorry for the lack of info I posted...hope this helps
Model Identifier:          MacBook2,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
I've hooked up the MacBook to the Tv with the Mini DVI - HDMI...the screen is showing fine. No problems
there.
The problem I have is with the audio. I guess that a normal HDMI-HDMI set-up (Blu-ray/DVD) carries audio and
vision.
I have a Mini-Jack to Phono lead which I thought I would get the audio to come out of the Tv.
The Tv is a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX503. My guess is that I need to tell the Tv which input to take the audio
from. I can't figure it out though.
Thanks so much for your help!

Im trying to hook up my white macbook into my sony tv. the manual says to use a hd15-hd15 cable. what do i need?

IF your white MB has a miniDVI output, one of these should do the trick...

Of course, you will also need a 3.5 to L/R audio cable for sound and you will need a VGA cable.
Why not use an HDMI port if you have free one? Better picture.

How to connect macbook pro to panasonic hd tv with hdmi cable

    Hi m,
It depends which MPB you have and the inputs on the TV. The following assumes your TV has an HDMI input which will work with a computer.
This is if your MBP is from April 2010 or newer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
First connect the adapter to the MBP and the HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV, then go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > select HDMI.
Or if your MBP is older than that and you have a Mini DisplayPort, you can use something like this: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMID/
If it's older than that, for video you need a DVI or mini DVI to HDMI or whatever input your TV has. For audio, you need a 3.5mm stereo mini plug to RCA or optical (Toslink), depending on what audio input your TV has.

  • How to connect Macbook to TV through Dvi to VGA adapter.

I recently got s Macbook and was wondering how to connect it to my 32 inch sony tv. I have the dvi to vga adapter and recently bought an adapter that converts the VGA into RGA adapters + S video (all of which my tv has) When I connect the TV with these components nothing happens. I am curious to know what the next steps are to getting the Macbook to recognize the tv and how to produce an image on my TV. Any input would be helpful

what plugs do you really have.. that was confusing? This is a Macbook (not pro)?
First, it could be as simple as going to System Preferences|Displays| and choose to "Detect Display". It may not be recognizing you plugged something in.
If you want to connect you should probably get the proper Apple mini-dvi adapters to match exactly what your TV has. I use the adapter from mini-DVI-to-DVI with my DVI-ready TV and it works great. They have one adapter for mini-DVI-to-VGA, and one from mini-DVI-to-Svideo. Note that multiple adapters assume you have 100% compatible input when often adapters "cheat" on the actual output side... data and signals are probably not getting thru... your Mac can't recognize the TV as connected.
If you want to live dangerously, you might try using the mini-to-DVI adapter with a DVI-HDMI cable (single cable, no adapter) and see if that works (HDMI is a legit DVI spec so it should work, it works in reverse for my DVD player to TV connection)

  • How to connect Macbook to TV but have reverse picture?

I'm not sure how clear my subject is, but basically here's what I want to do. I know how to connect my macbook to the TV and have my macbook screen show up on my TV screen. I want to reverse that, I want what's on my TV to show up on my mac screen so I can stream the picture on the web. Is this possible to do? What supplies am I looking at getting to be able to do this? I want to be able to broadcast what's on my TV through my mac, but I would also like to be able to work on my mac at the same time. I might be dreaming now right?

I am having a problem with getting my tv to work as the monitor. i have the mini dvi port connected to a RGB input port in the back of my LG tv. Any help you could give me would be appreciated

  • How to connect macbook pro with hdmi? any ideas?

    hi,
as the new macbook, doesn't have a dvi port but a faste thunderbols my good old dvi2hdmi cable is useless.
any ideas, how to connect the new macbook to my hdmi tv?
    thx for help!

    Retina has a HDMI port.
Others have a ThunderBolt, which is backward-compatible with Mini DisplayPort. Get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, and make sure you insert it until essentially ALL of the metal end is inside the jack, and you will be in business.

  • Connecting Macbook to Sony Bravia

So I think have all the cable i need to connect the two. I'm using a Mini DVI to VGA cable but when I connect the cable to the TV, the PC input can't be selected it is just grayed out.

Your Bravia also has at least one HDMI input....DVI is digital video....VGA is analog...try a cable setup like this...
    http://www.amazon.com/PTC-Mini-DVI-Adapter-6ft-Macintosh/dp/B001H0REVK
It is how I connect my MacBook to my Toshiba...
Remember the mini-DVI port does not carry audio....you will need another cable for that

  • Connecting MacBook to Sony Bravia via DVI-HDMI!

Hi I am having major issues with my Macbook connecting to my Sony Bravia KDL-32V4000 I now have 2 different DVI-HDMI leads as well as the Apple Mini-DVI-DVI and still have absolutely no luck.
The Macbook is picking up the Television absolutely no bother at all but there is just nothing at all coming up on the Television its self it doesn't even recognise that I have the computer in the HDMI slot nothing at all just blank!
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it will save me buying more and more cables if this fails to work will have to go with the DVI-VGA I guess would rather fix this though!
    Thanks!

I bought a mini-DVI to HDMI and an HDMI to HDMI cable. Once I went into settings for the display, I found that the TV was acting as a second monitor and that it was off to the right of the macbooks own screen. Thus if i moved the mouse to the right it could control the second monitor. You are able to move the screens so that they have the same data on each or use them as two screen with different info on each. Each screen is clearly visible in Spaces and it works a treat.
It is also possible to use the TV as the only screen. The way to do this is to connect up and close the lid on the mac. Once the light on the front starts blinking you can wake it up by using your mighty mouse or external keyboard. once awake, assuming you have chosen the correct HDMI connection from the TV the TV will act as the only monitor at full resolution.
The problem I have, is that I have not been able to get the sound to work. I have used the earphone socket and connected that to external speakers as I cannot seem to get the analogue signal on the TV on anything but an AV channel (not an HDMI channel). Thus the sound works on one channel and the image on another. My TV is a Sony KDL40w5710 - thus if anyone know the solution to getting the sound running through an HDMI channel on my TV it would be appreciated if you could contribute.
    Cheers

  • How to connect MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50

Any experience with cables for connecting MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50 (or similar)?

It depend upon the model (age) of you MBP.  If you have a Thunderbolt or minidisplay port, then you will need a minidisplay/HDMI adapter.
    eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMI/
Or you can get an all in one:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Premium-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt/dp/B004CADYD O/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1361985588&sr=1-3&keywords=minidisplay+hd mi
If you have an older mac with a DVI port, you will need something like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/DVI-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Male-Male/dp/B0002CZHN6
Note that audio is supported via HDMI for MBPs 2010 and later.  Earlier ones require tapping the audio output port.
    Ciao.

Then you would need to go from the composite or s-video or dvi or vga to scart somehow. From what I've found in a search, s-video to scart is the most common.

  • How to connect MacBook 2009 to Sony Bravia HDTV?

Hi everyone!  I received a Sony Bravia HDTV as a gift (lucky me!), and I want to connect my MacBook from 2009 to it so I can stream Netflix movies onto my laptop and watch them on the HDTV.  I have a Mini-DVI port (video out) on the MacBook, and HDMI on the TV.  A couple of questions:
    -  What cable(s) do I need?
    -  Do I need a separate cable for audio?
    -  Has anyone tried to stream Netflix this way (directly from the laptop), and was it successful?
    Thanks so much!
    Denise

You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and an HDMI cable from that to your TV. Here's some types of Mini-DVI adapter to HDMI on Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_9_8?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field- keywords=mini+dvi+to+hdmi+adapter&sprefix=mini+dvi
When you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. You'll have to contact Sony support to see if the Bravia has an audio plug that will work with one of the HDMI plugs.

  • Connecting MacBook to Sony Bravia LCD tv

I really want to connect my MacBook to our tv to play region 1 dvd's and videos I've bought in iTunes. At the Apple Store they sold me 3 cables, 1 Mini-DVI to DVI connector, 1 DVI to HDMI cable and a cable for sound.
I've got these both hooked up to my tv but I can't get both sound and picture to show up. I have to choose between either the HDMI input or the AV (sound) input. Does anyone know how I can get them both?

I am trying to do the same . Connecting Mac Book to Sony Bravia. the audio is working fine but no display. After connecting the DVI - VGA adapter the mac screens blinks for a sec or so but then no display on the tv. The apples store sales person told me its plug & play as simple as that.
Pls help with some troubleshooting !
