How to connect macintosh LC to LCD monitor?

Hello,
I'm trying to connect a Macintosh LC to a VGA LCD monitor. I'm not sure if that is possible, if so, what is the name of the adaptor that I need to get for it? Ebay has tons of such adaptors when I tried looking for them, but I didnt know which one to chose. Thanks very much!

With an old Mac like the LC, your problem is more complicated than finding a hardware interface adapter. The original LC and LC II had a maximum VRAM of 512 KB, which was adequate to support the old Apple 12" or 13" RGB displays, but not the multi-sync displays that followed. The LC III had a little more VRAM, maxing out at 768 KB, but still has the same limitation as its predecessors. A modern 19" LCD display typically has a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) and an optimal resolution of 1440x900 @ 60 Hz. The LCs don't support this resolution, because it didn't exist back in 1990. Even in newer (old) Macs with PCI slots, there are early graphics cards that can't support widescreen displays, because they weren't programmed for it. If you want to use the LC, you should look for an older Apple RGB display, but because they had the Sony Trinitron CRT, they're very heavy and not feasible to buy from an eBay seller, when you factor in the cost of shipping. If there are any thrift stores or computer recyclers in your area, you might want to check them out.

Why wouldn't it?
PC monitors and LCD HDTVs are nearly indistinguishable from each other now, at least when connecting via HDMI.
It should simply be a case of:
HDMI from PS3 to PC monitor
Audio output (depends on your audio system) from PS3 to audio system. (Actually, this is one of the few differences between PC monitors and TVs with HDMI connectivity - most PC monitors don't have speakers, TVs do and support HDMI audio.)
In my case, I have HDMI to my 46" TV and optical audio to a Yamaha receiver, but could easily move the PS3 to my "office" and connect to my 24" Gateway monitor and my other Yamaha receiver. (Yes, I have TWO Yamaha HTIB systems, one in the living room and one in the "office".)

Connecting Powerbook to External LCD Monitor

The D-BUS port on the external LCD monitor is a female port, so is the VGA port of the DVI Adapter, How can I connect these 2 if both are female ports, what do I need???

Sounds like you need a VGA cable with male VGA plugs at both ends. Quite common, for VGA monitors that don't have hard-wired cables.

6100 PPC connect to a modern LCD monitor

For old timers. Believe it or not, I have an exhibit that has several video game type interactives run by several 6100 PPCs. I don't know exactly what type: 6100/60, 66 or AV. They run mid-1990s Apple monitors that look great after over ten years of use. I'd like to remove the Apple CRTs and replace them with modern LCD monitors, but I don't know if a 12 or 13 year old computer (especially a low-end version to start with) will run them. I have a PPC 9600/300 and a Beige G3/266 to take parts from, if that's useful. The G3 has an extra PCI video card. The 9600 came with a separate video card I think. I hope the 6100 is running OS9. I'd like to keep using the 6100s for reasons that are beyond the scope of this forum. Any ideas?

You can hook an LCD up to the built-in video port on your 6100s without a new video card. The LCD will be able to run at least as well as your original displays. They may run even at a higher resolution, but that isn't guaranteed. You won't loose any capability with this change but you will need an adapter to use an LCD.
If you happen to be replacing Apple AudioVision 14 displays (how could you!!), you might not have any adapters to start with. But if you had any other display, you should have adapters that convert the rather large port on the back of your 6100s (called HDI-45) to a typical Mac monitor port. You can get an additional adapter that goes from the typical Mac monitor port to a VGA port, the port that your LCD will have. So it will go LCD -> VGA to standard Mac adapter -> Standard Mac to HDI-45 adapter -> 6100.
You also could get one adapter that goes directly from VGA to the HDI-45 port on the back of the 6100s, but I'd recommend the dual adapter method if you already have the first adapter. That's the way I always did it and it left me the option of using any kind of monitor, VGA, Mac, or AudioVision.
If you do choose to install a video card, this will allow you to get higher resolutions and more colors on your LCD, beyond where you were before. You must also get a right-angle adapter for this card because the 6100 requires the card to be installed sideways unlike the 7100 and 8100. This adapter is somewhat hard to find. A Sonnet Crescendo G3 upgrade card can serve as a right-angle adapter but those are kind of pricey.
Note that some video cards are NuBus and some are PDS. You need the proper right-angle adapter. The Sonnet Crescendo G3 upgrade card works with PDS video cards. (Most video cards for the 6100 are PDS.) Some right angle adapters are yet a third kind of strange slot intended to be used with a DOS card. These will not work with any video cards I am aware of.

I would like to connect my macbook to both my lcd tv and external monitor. However, I only need either the tv or monitor to be on at any one time. Cause when i'm during my work, I need my external monitor. But when I wanna watch movies, I want to watch it only lcd tv.
Any ideas? Is there some sort of switch? I don't want to keep changing the display connections all the time.
I understand there is a usb display connection to the mac but I do not need both the lcd tv and external monitor to be on at the same time.

How to connect my MacBook to a monitor and TV at the same time? I have a thunderbolt, what else do I need?

I have an ASUS monitor and a SONY TV set. I have 2 HDMI cables, one for the TV and one for the monitor. I also have a Thunderbolt for my Mac and I have HDMI Pigtail Switch with 3 ports. For some reason when I connect the Pigtail Switch to the Thunderbolt and the 2 HDMIs to the Pigtail nothing happens. Anyone knows the answer?

How to connect a MacBook to external monitor

I have a MacBook that I am trying to hook up a external monitor to. I have a HDMI cable that goes from the monitor to a adaptor that goes to the mini display port and the USB port. I have tried with and without the USB cord. I have tried messing with the display preferences and nothing works. I have hooked my MacBook up to my HD TV before using the same adaptor and it woks just fine. Can someone please help me?

HDMI is kind of a flakey technology as there are several different standards. Thats why Applle never adapted it. I'd look at using a mini display to DVI adapter instead.

Hi, I have a imac G5 which needs a wireless internet connection via Linksys. I just placed the Xtreme Airport card in it and tried to connect the internet but it doesn't recognize the Linksys. Please see the following instructions to configure your AirPort Wireless Adapter with a Linksys Wireless Network using either a Linksys Wireless Access Point or Wireless Router. Before you begin, make sure you have Apple AirPort software version 1.3 (or later) installed. If you are not certain about this, contact Apple.
Configuring the Airport Adapter
1.      From the Finder (desktop) click on the Apple menu, then click on the System Preferences option.
2.      After the “System Preferences” window opens, click on the Network option under “Internet & Network”.
3.       When the “Network Preferences” pane opens, select AirPort under the “Show” section.
4.       After selecting “Show: Airport”, click on the AirPort tab. When the “AirPort” area opens, tick the option for Join a specific network and input your SSID into the “Network” field (linksys is the default SSID for all Linksys wireless products). Also be sure to have the ShowAirPortStatus in menu bar option clicked.
Note: If you’re using WEP on your wireless network, input “Key 1” or “Key” from your Access Point or Wireless router into the “Password” field, please input all letters in UPPER CASE
5.       Click on the Apply Now button to save your settings.
Configuring TCP/IP
We recommend setting your TCP/IP for DHCP if you’re using a Linksys router on your network.
1.      Click on the TCP/IP tab, and select Using DHCP from the “Configure” dropdown menu.
2.                   Click on the Apply Now button again to save the TCP/IP options.
3.                   Power down your computer and power it back up.
·         If you do not have access after powering back up
a.      Click on the AirPort icon in the “Menu” bar, and make sure that the “Airport: Off” option is not grayed out, if it is, click on the Turn AirPort On option.
b.      If you click on the AirPort icon in the “Menu” bar and find that the option for “Airport: On” is grayed out, then click on the SSID and you should get a connection.

G4 Dual 1Ghz-Connecting 1440 x 900 LCD Monitor?

For my third setup of identical CPUs, I'm trying to save a little on an additional display.
Is there any reason that the G4 MDD (ATA Radion 9000 Pro, 64mb) will not properly fill out a 1440 x 900 screen? I'm looking at the Niko 1906W and the Hanns·G HW-191DP, which have DVI ports.

When I was working on stuff like this I called ATI and asked them about it. Their support is pretty good. There's something called the ESID or screen information thing that the monior communicates with the computer about display sizes.

External LCD Monitor Connection - Unacceptable Quality

Hello,
I have recently purchased a Mac, hoping that I would be able to connect to my external LCD monitor (19" Samsung SyncMaster 920NW - only VGA connection).
I have easily hooked up my monitor to my Mac. However, what I see is of unacceptable quality. When compared to Macbook display, the display on the external monitor is darker and the text looks horrible. I have played with few settings but nothing good.
I have read other threads where people complain about similar things. But, I thought Samsung's monitors would be of higher quality. Mine is a relatively cheap LCD but not this cheap
I am just willing to confirm that I am not missing anything. I simply can't believe that the display quality could be this bad. In the worst case, I will have to buy a new LCD.

Unfortunately, it is not running in the Mirror mode. The display with the mirror mode was even worse! But after reading the posts in the forum, I have learned how to change it to the extended display. It is better than the mirror mode, but still not good enough.
Maybe I am making a mistake comparing the external monitor with the MacBook's monitor?? There is a huge gap between the two. It is a lot darker, and the text quality is way worse.
Someone with a similar monitor having solved this issues?

2. for serious work I would strongly recommend eizo monitors. current apple displays simply cant compete with them. They are very outdated and therefore overpriced. they have poor adjusting possibilities..in both picture and stands.
