How to connect MBP to Philips HD ready TV with DVI-I

I've managed to connect my Macbook Pro (bought Jan 2013) to my Philips HD ready TV (model number 37PF5520D/10) with the following cables:-
1) Cables 4 ALL Supreme 2M DVI-I Cable / Dual Link 24+5 Pins / Gold Plated / HDTV
2) Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter cable by Neet® - ( for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air etc. )
Getting picture no problem - but no sound.
I understand that I need a separate audio cable. I tried a 3.5mm cable from MBP into DVI audio socket on TV - but NO sound.
What cable to I need to be able to get sound along with vision?

You need to set the Audio in on the TV. This is from page 16 of your TV's manual:
Audio Selection: to choose the sound
reproduced on the TV (PC/HD or TV).

Well the easiest would be to plug your printer directly into your extreme using either the USB or Ethernet connection.
Make sure you then install bonjour and use the printer wizard to convert your printer...

Connecting MBP w/Retina and Work Laptop with Switch to dual monitors

I have the latest MBP w/retina display and NVidia GT750M video card. I also have my work laptop (Dell, Win 7, HDMI out). I want to connect these to a dual monitor setup with a switch. I currently only have one monitor that is 1920 x 1080 and supports hdmi and dvi. I would like to buy another cost effective monitor to take advantage of my MBP's higer resolution and have that as my main monitor.
Next I would like to connect the two laptops to the dual monitor setup via switch to go back and forth between systems.
What is the best switch to buy for my needs? Does OS matter when selecting switches? Monitor recommendations are appreciated also.

I am also seeing lots of posts about Mavericks not working well with switches. Has this issue been resolved?

If I were to connect the AirPort Extreme to my modem (DPC3825) via an Ethernet cable and then (wirelessly) connect my new iMac to the netowrk, would I receive 802.11ac or just b/g/n still?
802.11ac would be received by the iMac if it connected to the AirPort Extreme wireless signal....and....the iMac was in close proximity to the AirPort Extreme.
802.11ac uses the 5 GHz frequency, and these signals only work well then the router and computer are in the same room or have a line-of-sight relationship to each other, or very close to that ideal.
In addition, when I connect the AirPort Extreme to my modem, will it create two networks
The AirPort Extreme will create a network with two bands or frequencies.....one 2.4 GHz for "b", "g" and "n" wireless devices and another band, the 5 GHz signal for "n" and "ac" devices.
If you assign the same name to the AirPort Extreme network that you use for your existing network, and both routers are using the same wireless security settings and password, then everything will act like one "big" network.
If you assign a different name to the AirPort Extreme wireless network, then you will have two different networks....one produced by your existing router and the other produced by the AirPort Extreme.
If you move from one area to another, you will have to log off of one network and log back onto the other network.

How to connect MBP to MacAir in target

My cursed 15" 2011 MBP has had a disk fail and won't boot. I tried repairing from a disk but it said to back up my files and reinstall. I have a MacAir but is there a way to connect the MBP to the MacAir in target mode so I can run a back up? I know the MacAir doesn't have a ethernet connection which is how I used to do this.

Ok, this is the way that it has worked with Mac Book Pro's for the past 3 years, except ( and I still don't know why) with some 13" Macbook Pro models. All mac book pro's, output a digital signal that is HDCP compliant, this means that they only native support digital signals - - - VGA, S-VIDEO, RCA, Component (RGB), DVI-i are all Analog signals. A straight adapter will not work, period... What you need is a converter -- a digital to analog converter, or a HDMI to VGA converter (search for ones that are HDCP compliant up to 1.3) some may work that are not HDCP, but there is also a chance that they may not. www.HDFury.com makes higher end professional converters, from th $100 to $500 range. Or you can look at Amazon and find a multitude of converters from $25 - $70 and up.
So you need a mini-display port to HDMI adapter (or DVI adapter that comes with some mac's if so find DVI-D to HDMI converter). $15 - I wouldn't pay $49 from apple. Rockfish has a solid one.
and you will need a digital to analoge converter box ($50) or so.
It is not just apple, people who have PS3, Xbox, and pretty much any newer apple TV or Microsoft equivalent will have the same problem.

How to connect to Pgsql on server through jdbc with java on local machine

I am developing an application in which I have to connect to my database that is in Pgsql and Pgsql is installed on Linux server. I am going to access that from my java program and the java is here on my local computer(in Linux). All the intranet connections are there. How can I get accees to that database? I have heard of java SSL tunnel. Is this the only solution or there is something else that I can use more easily. Also if I use java installed on th same server as Pgsql then what I will have to do to call the java methods using AMI. Will the java at server be able to make connection to Pgsql more easily? Please tell me about it if you know.

The closer java and pgsql, the easier it is of course to connect. So the easiest way is to have everything on the same machine. If you are in the same network you will need an IP based network, which is pretty much standard these days. In this case you need to modify the pg_hba.conf file to allow connections from other machines. In both cases you have to start the postmaster with the -i option to enable enable TCP/IP connections.
Having java and pgsql connected through the internet is a different story, I do not have any experience with that. But you can use ssh to build a tunnel and connect to a local ip address / port from java which is then forwared securely via the internet to the server.
In all cases you will need the postgres jdbc driver in your classpath. You can find information about postgres and jdbc on the postgres web site.

In order to connect UWL you can go ahead with creating a system with Load Balancing.
After that go to the Universal Worklist option under the system configuration.
Provide the details of your system and register it. do not forgot to provide a system configuration group.
After registering the system go ahead to the Universal Worklist iview and provide the system configuration group name.
That;s it your worklist is configured. Check the preview and you will be able to see the workflow e-mails over there.

My cousin currently has a Dell desktop that accesses the internet via DSL (wired, not wireless). They also recently acquired an iMac G3 and a d-link wireless adapter and want to know how they can get internet access to the iMac? I'm assuming all they need to do is purchase a wireless router to connect to the PC and then the iMac can access the router via the d-link adapter? Are there any suggestions as to what type of router is best to use? The room the iMac is in isn't close to the PC, so is there one better for distance?
Any suggestions would be helpful. Oh, and they're not looking to spend a lot of money. So whatever works for reliable access and distance from the router is what they're looking for.

Well the cheapest way would be to use a wired router and run Cat 5.
As far as recommendations go I would just Google the Models that you're interested in. I set a client up with a wireless router and bought a D-Link at Office Max since I have an old D-Link that has worked perfectly for 3 years. The one I got was nothing but problems so I switched to a Linksys that was well reviewed and now it's worked perfectly for 3 weeks. Turns out that D-Link had both great and awful reviews. I had been prejudiced against Linksys since I have 4 SR41 wired routers that have failed.
So you can't go by make only model.
