I have an ADSL PPPoE wireless internet connection, should be 'I have a ADSL PPPoE WAN internet connection'  with
wireless.
You can't connect direct to the dialup connection but you can connect any device via WiFi.
Does the router have small aerial(s) and is wireless enabled on the router ?.
If you don't know, to check you will need the IP address of the router, username and password is usually 'admin'.
I think there is a problem with the Z10 if it can't connect to other wireless hotspots.

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

  • How to: Connect a new MacMini to an iMac (internet)..

I have an iMac in one room and a MacMini in the next room. The iMac is already connected to the internet.
I want to connect the MacMini to the internet using an Apple Airport Express Base Station router. The connection from the MacMini will be WIRELESS. My iMac is WIRED to the internet...the imac has "Airport"...
I am hoping that the Apple Express router will be just "plug and play", but I know that life is more complicated than that, but I hope for the best. I understand that in purchasing the Apple Express base station that there's a 90 day telephone support which is inspiring!...
In the meanwhile, I sure could use some info as to how to set the Apple Express base router up to wirelessly get the macmini connected to the internet.
    Grazia tutti.....

You do not need an Airport Express to connect your Mac mini to the internet. While your iMac is connected to the internet with an ethernet connection, you should be able to turn on the Airport card in the iMac and set up a local wifi network that your Mac mini can use to share your iMac's internet connection.
You would need to create an AirPort network in System Prefs>Network. If AirPort does not exist in the left hand pane click the + below and create one. Check the box to Show AirPort status in menu bar.
After you have created the AirPort network go to System Prefs>Sharing and highlight Internet Sharing. (Do not check the box.) Then to the right choose to Share your connection from Ethernet from the pulldown menu. Below share To computers using AirPort by checking the box for AirPort. Use the AirPort Options... button to name the network and setup wireless encryption. Click OK. Lastly, go back and check the box for Internet Sharing.
Then go to your Mac mini and configure it for a wireless network. Go to System Prefs>Network and enable an AirPort Network and turn on the AirPort card. Click the box to show Airport status in the menubar. From the menubar you should see the network that you set up on your iMac. Choose this network and in the dialog box fill in the information to connect to your network. You should now have internet access.

  • How to connect to a hard drive on a internet box (afp ?)

    hello everyone
I have a problem since I am on Lion with my internet box. I pluged a hard drive on it. On my others computers (on Windows, icluding my mac with bootcamp)
The Lion is unable to connect the HD. I can see it on my finder (but not everytime), but it can't connect with it.
I thaught I found the solution here (in french):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4700?viewlocale=fr_FR
    But it didn't work!
I think my probleme is a the step 3 where I have to make a AFP connection. What is it exactly?
    Is it the right solution?
    Thanks for help.

That would depend on how your internet box shares out the hard drive. If it doesn't support AFP, then using AFP to connect to it won't work at all. If it does support afp, then go to the Finder and select Connect to Server from the Go menu. For the address, use afp://ip.address.of.router.
You Also might want to check your router help files for how to connect to shared drives.
Apple had to drop Samba, the old SMB/CIFS implementation of Windows File sharing. They wrote their own implementation, but it might not be completely compatible with how your router is sharing out the hard drive.

  • How to connect to an other computer through the internet

Please who can help me with Desktop Remote control and connecting through the internet. I know a lot is written about it, but it is still confusing.
So try to explain my situation:
I have an MacBook pro with Desktop Remote Control 3
    The other computer:
Apple PowerBook which is connected through and Thomson Speedtouch (wireless 716)
    External IP address xx.xx.xx.xx
    Internal IP address 192.168.1.66
    No firewalls
    My questions:
How do I check if my Thomson Speedtouch the ports 5900 and 32?? are open?
How can I open the ports on the router? Do I have to open the port on the router?
Then on the MacBook Pro, I start up ARD3
How do I scan for the computer on Internet? Do I use the external IP address?
How can I then connect to the Apple PowerBook? I cannot fill in the second internal IP address or do I?
I hope someone can help me.
If more info is needed, please ask me.
    Thank you....
    Hans

Neil thank you for your answer.
I opened Network Utility. Went to the last Tab "Port Scan"
I typed in: external IP address (i got this through the Widget SysStat which shows external IP)
Than I gave up scan between the ports 5890 - 5910 to check if those ports are open or not. I had to way for a moment, and then the result was: "Port Scan has completed....."
Ok, what do I know know? The ports are open or not?
So please can someone help me with the following:
    1) What should the result show me from Network utility?
    2) Opening the port, this has to be done on the Router or is it something the Internet Service Provider needs to do?
    3) I still have the question: how can I open the port, so with what application.
    4) What are the exact ports which needs to be open?
    5) About bridging in the router, does that have a special name. I didn't see in the router configuration program an option like that? When searching --> this is configured: A. Router-modem (NAT/PAT) - is there something special with NAT/PAT?
Hope someone can help me with a few of my questions.
    Thanks

  • How to connect my time capsule & macbook to the internet?

I purchased a Time Capsule last weekend to back up all my photos etc.  I was able to set up the Time Capsule with Airport Utility and now have my home network set up, I can easily get everything I need on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009, Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 if that helps?) EXCEPT I can't get the time capsule to connect to the internet.  For some reason whenever I want to access my pictures or the time capsule, I have to connect to the wireless network but if I want to connect to the internet I have to reconnect to my old wireless network.  I have tried everything but just can't get it to work correctly! The Time Capsule light has only ever flashed orange at me...

time capsule should be in bridge mode and plugged into your main router so it is part of the existing network.
Bridge on you Lion version is easy as you can still download and install a real utility.

  • Need help connecting safari, entourage, ichat etc to wireless internet

My macbook is my first apple, I've never used Mac OS X before, and I'm finding all the new terminology intimidating, so I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me, but please talk down to me like I'm 10 years old, or I won't understand. Here is my problem: On the windows side (I use parallels), everything runs the way it should, there is no problem connecting to the internet, my mail comes through Outlook like it should. But I bought a mac for the purpose of becoming acquainted with Mac OS, and this is a disaster! On the mac side, airport is working and is connected to my wireless system. Firefox opens and works like a charm, connecting me to everything I need on the internet. But Safari WILL NOT open, though I swear the proxy settings, etc. are identical to those in Firefox, and neither will iChat, Entourage, or Messenger for Mac. I'm guessing that they all use the settings in System Preferences while Firefox uses its own set, but I see NO DIFFERENCE in the two sets of settings. What am I doing wrong? Please help!!
    PS, LOVE the dashboard thing!!

Strange - I use all the same Apps you do and I never gave any specific consideration to how each individual app was connecting. If your airport shows you're 'connected' then the whole system is talking - or at least it should be.
On a side note - give it some time - once you've unlearned some Windows-specific things you will really appreciate OS X. But it's not THAT different...perhaps getting a mouse with a right-click button will make you feel better. I'm not into the single button crtl-click deal...
Regarding Entourage not connecting...have you setup your accounts properly? I don't even have Safari installed so I can't help you there. Same goes for iChat. Make sure you have good account info in there. I don't have any iChat buddies but it still connects me when I log-in using AOL.
    Check those account settings...

  • How do I setup my time capsule with wireless internet?

I I have "Clear" so theres no place on the device to plug up an ethernet cord.. PLEASE HELP!!!! Would like to use the time capsule mainly as an external hard drive. PLEASE HELP!!!

For factory reset.. what model do you have??
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
To join a wireless network and assuming you are using a Mac with v6 utility..
    1. Full reset of the TC. as above.
    2. Open the airport utility.. the Mac must have internet connection to the wireless router which is working.
Click on other wi-fi devices which is your reset TC.
    3. The utility will choose the wrong item. You are not creating a network.. so click options.
    4. Click add to existing network.
    5. Make sure you then get the right network.. this is from my main router.
    6. The utility will then use join. Fix the name to short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric .. for better networking.
    7. The utility should complete the setup.. and you will probably need to fix a few things.. passwords or other errors fix them all up.
    8. You can now click edit and go the wireless tab and see the details.
This will give you extremely slow speeds.. it is highly NOT recommended.

    Greetings,
How do I enter the password when trying to connect to a password protected generic wireless internet using my Airport card? (When I enter the password, it will not allow me to connect to the wireless internet because I am not entering the correct password but I am.) My computer recognizes the wireless internet it just won't allow me to connect. I assume there must be some special way to enter the password. Please help.

  • Unable to connect Officejet 6500 and Wireless internet simultaneously in Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I am using Mac OS Snow Leopard and Officejet 6500. Before upgrading to Snow Leopard, I was able to connect both my printer and my wireless internet simultaneously (Leopard OS). However, after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I'm able to connect only one of them at a time which is really very inconvenient. Whenever I need to print, I need to manually select "hpsetup" from the Airport drop down and wait for it connect. This disconnects my internet. Then I need to select my wireless internet option in the Airport drop down again once I'm done with the printing.
This is defeating the entire purpose of a wireless printer. Guessing that its a problem with HP developing the required driver for Snow Leopard. I've already downloaded the driver meant for Snow Leopard but this is not solving the problem.
Also, would like to know whether its a problem with everyone or specific to me?

OK, great questions.  I'll try to address them by number:
    2. I do not think this is possible.  I think your printer was initially connected to your router and has recently fallen off (thus broadcasting 'hpsetup').  Sorry, I am not saying you are lying, but I do not think it is possible without two radios.
    3. a.  Yes, you can only talk to one device at a time through your computer's wireless radio.
    3. b.  You can attach your printer wirelessly in case you need to move it, but....see "c" below.
    3. c. I would recommend that you attach your printer via a wired connection (Ethernet cable) to your router if you can.  It is by far easier to set up and more reliable in the long run.  I can help.
The wired and wireless sides of a router talk to each other.  By the time it gets to the router it really does not care if the connection is by wire or wireless, it treats all "clients" the same.  That is why I recommend to wire your printer to your router and keep a wireless connection between your computer and router.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • I am constantly receiving an error message that says "Could not find a PPPoE Server." My wireless internet connection seems to working fine, I'm not having any issues. How do I get rid of this error message?

A few weeks ago my computer had lost the connection to the wireless internet. I set it up again and was able to connect to the internet, however since then I've been receiving an error message "Could not find a PPPoE Server." I went back into Preferences and unchecked the PPPoE server option but the error message still pops up.
Any idea how to fix it?

In the Network pane of System Prefences, do you have duplicate services on the left column? When you "set it up again", you might have duplicated a service and both (the good working one and the previous that lost connection) might be trying to connect at the same time.
