How to connect my FIREWIRE Lacie Porsche external HD to TC which has USB?

Is there a cable to do the trick or????
Please help.

How difficult it is depends on how comfortable you are with opening up computers in general. I would recommend you ask a friend experienced in computer hardware to come by and physically check out the current drive and its specifications. It's not that hard to install once you have the enclosure, but it is important that you get the right enclosure. The enclosure you need is dependent on the HDD currently inside the FW enclosure. Perhaps a visit to a local computer hardware store along with your current FW drive is advisable as well. Most new enclosures will also come with an installation guide.

  • How to connect a firewire camera (XL1) to a MBP w/ no firewire port?

    I need to connect my Canon XL1 to my MBP (which doesn't have FW, not even i-link!).  I  refuse to buy a Tbolt-FW adapter (unless it is not made by Apple). I spent a forture on this  notebook + I already had to buy a Tbolt-Ethernet adapter (no ethernet port either) + an external  DVD drive (no superdrive). This is getting ridiculous.
    I found plenty of very cheap USB-FW adapters on Amazon, but none of them worked for anyone. If you know of one that does work, could you please let me know where I might find it?
    I looked for HDMI-FW and HDMI-Ethernet adapters but found nothing.  I just started looking for a FW-iPod connector but haven't found anything yet.
    I have a Dazzle analog to digital video converter it's going to degrade the picture quality.
    All my older Macs would have worked if they weren't all down.  I have an old Sony VAIO which has i-link and ethernet. It looks like my only option at the moment. Pretty dissapointing to say the least.
    Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  Thank you.

    I understand your objection, since I am keeping my non-Retina MacBook Pro with the built-in FireWire and Gigabit Ethernet ports for as long as I can, but the Apple adapter looks like the only real solution right now (other than the Vaio) if the old Macs are still down. It is not clear if there are any non-Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire adapters out there that are available and if so, are reliable.
    While I am annoyed with Apple taking these ports off the new Macs (especially the GigE), I also believe that you need to commit to the tools required to get the job done. If it was mine I would have considered the adapter part of the original total budget for the machine. Maybe you could see if there's a used adapter on eBay.

  • Seagate External Hard Drive with Imac - How to connect 2nd Firewire Device

    I just bought a new Seagate External Free Agent HD to use with my IMac on a Firewire 400 but was wondering if I keep the HD connected what can I do to connect another device (video camera) at the same time with another firewire? I thought my IMac had 2 Firewire ports but it looks the 2nd port is for something else. Is there some kind of Hub I could buy or could I connect the camera through the HD, it appears there is another Firewire connection there? Thanks and any advice would be helpful?

    Any reputable brand name should do the job.

  • How to connect my firewire device to my retina macbook?

    I bought a new MacBook Pro Retina display, with the SSD.  Awersome, but now I regret getting the smaller 500 GB drive, as it is now full.  I will move all my photos and video to my spare LaCie external drives, but they are only firewire I/O.  As far as I know, my MacBook does not have a firewire port.  Is there an adapter, like the one for ethernet-to-Thunderbolt, that I can get so I can still use my external drives?

    Thank you Niel.  I had taken a browse at the Apple site but I guess I missed this little gem.  I'll head to my local Apple store over lunch.
    Kind regards,

    If yours is an early through late iMac G4 LCD flat panel computer
    which shipped between 2002 and 2004, they all have the same
    number of FireWire ports: 2 - 400 MBit/s (8W total power.)
    You may need to look into a FireWire Hub, one that is self-powered
    from an external AC power adapter and not use limited FW port
    power from the computer, as that is limited.
    ' firewire hub, powered ' - google search:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=firewirehub+powered&aq=3&oq=FireWirehub
    {If you have a different configuration of iMac than the one with
    the half-dome white base & chrome display arm, you may need
    to compare your machine with either the iMac G5 or Intel iMac
    forum areas, since the hardware did change over the years.}
    Be sure to not overload the FireWire, or other ports on the Mac;
    no matter which model or version you may have. In the case
    of USB, a self-powered (uses AC adapter) hub is recommended
    and in the case of FireWire, some products may have a port in
    them, but to daisy-chain these is a mistake. Underpowered
    device issues, or overtaxing the Mac power supply may result.
    An external firewire enclosed hard disk drive with accessory FW
    port may have been supplied with that port given extra power;
    if the FireWire drive uses an AC power supply and not port power.
    If the external FW drive is in heavy use, you may be able to tell
    if the port on there can support a camera. It probably won't.
    By the Mid-2007 Intel iMac, there was a difference in the FW
    port configuration: 1 - 400 MBit/s, & 1 - 800 MBit/s (7W each.)
    So, you may have an iMac with two different FireWire ports.
    Some towers also have or had support for both FW types;
    and Ethernet, USB ported devices, and audio options.
    For those machines with a less than desired FireWire
    support, there are FireWire Hubs, in both specifications;
    and retailers or online store links show them in both
    Mac and more general PC listings. These would be
    self-powered Hubs and not rely on the Mac port power.
    These are a bit different and not all peripherals that say they
    may work with one or the other will necessarily do so in both.
    An example maybe if you buy a FW 800 external HD enclosure
    and it says it also supports FW400. It may not boot OSX in 800.
    The computer specifications should be available in Apple Support
    in that section; and a current version of the MacTracker download
    database of most things Apple computer should; see: mactracker.ca
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to connect a macbook to an external projector?

    I would like to connect my macbook to my school's projector for presentation and it seems the projector cable at school doesn't fit into any slot in my macbook.
    What kind of cable do I need? I remember the cable at school is able to plug into any PC, and the slot looks like a trapezium with a lot of little holes. Is that the VGA?
    I am using a white macbook, 2.4, bought in september 2008.
    thank you very much

    It took a while for me to figure that out too when I switched to a mac xP
    Here's what you need:
    1) MiniDVI-VGA Cable : which can be found at the apple store (http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw)
    It plugs into the port to the left of the FireWire port and allows you to use a PC (VGA) video cable with your macbook.
    2) The VGA (trapezium) cable if you don't already have one dangling off your projector
    3) You'll have to adjust some settings in System Preferences > Displays to get the projector to display your screen correctly.
    happy presenting :]

  • How to list local admins in AD as a txt file which has a name as date of the day

    Hello,
    I have a script which lists local admins of all hosts in Active Directory:
    $Searcher = New-Object DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher([ADSI]"")
    $Searcher.Filter = "(objectClass=computer)"
    $Computers = ($Searcher.Findall())
    md C:\All_Local_Admins
    Foreach ($Computer in $Computers)
    $Path=$Computer.Path
    $Name=([ADSI]"$Path").Name
    write-host $Name
    $members =[ADSI]"WinNT://$Name/Administrators"
    $members = @($members.psbase.Invoke("Members"))
    $members | foreach {$_.GetType().InvokeMember("Name", 'GetProperty',
    $null, $_, $null) | out-file -append C:\All_Local_Admins\$name.txt
    This script outputs HOST machine names as seperate txt files (HOST1.txt, HOST2.txt etc)
    What I want is to get a single text file which name gets the date of the day (for example: 05082014.txt --> This file will include local admins of all hosts)
    How should I modify above code to manage this?
    Thank you very much.

    Try setting the file name outside of the loop.
    $fname = "$((Get-Date).ToShortDateString().Replace('/','')).txt"
    after the write host line add
    $ | out-file
    -append C:\All_Local_Admins\$fname
    Change this line
    $null, $_,
    $null)
    | out-file
    -append C:\All_Local_Admins\$name.txt
    to
    $null, $_,
    $null)
    | out-file
    -append C:\All_Local_Admins\$fname
    See if that gives you what you need.

  • How can we restrict the other user to change the record which has been entered by particular user in MDS

    I have created Product entity in MDS. It's having the following values:
    Name  Code  Owner
    Bike    1      ABC
    Car      2     XYZ
    Cycle   3     RRR
    owner XYZ can change the record of RRR. But if owner XYZ or any other owner in this entity tried to update the ABC's record, access should be denied. That means, no one should have the permission to change the records which are entered by ABC.
    For this i have executed this code
    CREATE TRIGGER mdm.party_trial_readonly ON mdm.tbl_1042_1278_EN AFTER UPDATE, DELETE AS
    IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM deleted WHERE readonly = 1)
    BEGIN
       ROLLBACK TRANSACTION
       RAISERROR ('Attempt to change a read-only row', 16, 1)
       RETURN
    END;
    After executing this code i couldn't edit any of the records.
    Please help me out in this.

    I have created 2 entities called Party and Owner.  Party has following columns (name, Code, Owner (Domain Based Attribute)) Owner has following columns (name, Code) And I have Created one Derived Hierarchy.
    From user and Group Permision Section, Hierarchy Members tab I have given read only permision to me (administrator of the Model). When I gave the permision I have selected users and Inherited from group in permission tab. And I'm not the part of any group.
    Now I'm not able to see my model except the explorer area. And I'm not able to delete the permission from the user. As per the admin guide we need to delete permission from group.
    Though I'm not the part of any group, I'm not able to proceed further to delete the permission.
    Please help me out in this regard. Thanks!

    I had a similar requirement to you and put the code on a push button. In my case the reports are being run interactively to the screen and then printed, and I have no way to know whether the report had actually been printed, so we rely on the user pressing the button. Of course there is a danger that the user forgets to press the button, but in our situation that would not be disasterous. Whatever method is used, I don't think there is any way to be sure that it has actually come out of the printer.

  • How do I fix the App Store app in mountain lion which has become corrupted and won't update!

    I can no longer access the App Store so cannot update my system. Ant Ideas?

    In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
    If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
    If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
    You will need to do that after any updates.

  • How can I extract a gaussian function out of a spectrum which has five gaussain functions....

    I have a spectrum which has five gaussian functions. but I have to extract this Gaussian functions from the spectrum. There are diferent gaussian functions. What are the possible methods for extracting the gauss functions using labview. I have attached a picture to give you a picture. The solid line is the one I have and the dotted lines are the individual Gaussian function which will be extracted.
    Note: the Gaussian function center number and width are known.
    Attachments:
    Picture1.png ‏27 KB

    Let me get this straight.
    You have:
       The experimental data set (spectrum)
       The number of Gaussian curves you want to use for your curve fit
       The center positions and variances for all of your Gaussians
    You need:
       The height of the Gaussian curves
    Is that it? If so, all you need to do is set up an optimizing routine, using some measure to optimize (i.e., sum of abs(residuals) or residuals squared for each data point) and the acceptable final error for your solution.
    A modified Simplex routine should work well, there may be others which would be more efficient, but you're talking about a trivial amount of comkputer time unless you have a gazillion of these spectra to fit.
    If that is not your problem, please describe exactly what data you have and what you need to calculate more fully.
    LabVIEW can use essentially any method for solving this problem that any other computer language can, but it is not likely to be a simple canned plug-in (at least it won't be one which you get in the vanilla version of LabVIEW), you'll have to put it together yourself.

    Connect the hard drive directly to the computer and make sure that your computer can detect the hard drive.
    If it is detected and working properly on your computer then connect the hard drive the USB port on the router.
