Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. I had my iphone 4 locked to vodafone uk carrier. I connected the phone to itunes on my pc and tried to update the version to ios 6 through itunes. But it has been locked and asks for sim of previous carrier. how can i return to previous state?
You cannot return to previous state. The update re-locked the iPhone
to the original carrier. You must contact the original carrier to see if
they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Be advised that if your iPhone had previously been hacked/modified/
jailbroken to work with other than original carrier, it may be impossible
for the original carrier to unlock it properly. -
I have the iphone 5S and it doesn't seem to even connect to my macbook because when i connect it to my phone, a message on my laptop shows that I have to install he new version of itunes on my phone. How on earth do I do that??? I Already have the latest version of itunes installed on my laptop already.
It should be telling you to download the latest iTunes on your computer... you can't install iTunes on your iPhone.

Your phone is in recovery mode. Did you plug it to the computer running itunes? What happend?

When in connect my iPhone5 to my MacBook, the songs I purchases from the iTunes store transferred over, but the songs I imported from CDs into iTunes did not. how can I "synch" over those imported songs into my iPhone?
You have to connect and select iPhone in iTunes under DEVICES (Left panel), select Music tab (right top), check Sync Music, and all the music you want on iPhone then tap Sync button (bottom right).

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have such problem, at iphone 4s connection to itunes there is a synchronization well and after iphone is frozen and the woman explaining the instruction starts to speak (How to unblock how to switch off a sound, etc.). iphone reacts to one team, and the woman tells everything and speaks. I took iphone from a wire, but it didn't react. At attempt to switch off it it is switched off, but deletes all files which only existed on this device. What to do and how to solve this problem?
Try posting in your native language. I can't even figure out what your "problem" is from this.

Hi there, my iphone4 does not turn on or connect to iTunes since it broke, however it was still working till the battery ran out ( I noticed it was still working because my app was on and the status showed up on my computer as I was online through my iPhone). So I believe that all of my data are still on that phone, it's just not responding to me, I hope that I could get my stuff back somehow, if this is too much to ask, at least I would like to wipe all my personal info before trade it in, any idea? My iPhone 4S is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen, I tried to update it last night and something went wrong. I tried connecting it to iTunes but it won't connect to my phone, any ideas?
Here is what you can try,
Hold both the power and home buttons until the device powers off, may take 10sec. Let go of both as soon as screen goes black.
Open itunes on your computer and plug in your cable to the computer but NOT the phone.
Once itunes is open hold down the home button on phone and plug in cable and continue holding home button until you see the connect to iTunes logo on screen. iTunes will give a msg that a device has been detected in recovery mode. Now select restore and do not disconnect until you see your device in iTunes again. -

If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone hasnt been recognized in iTunes on your PC since the last couple of updates. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article which will walk you through the steps one by one.

Living in Japan and I'm an American who just signed up with Soft Bank the phone service here and spent a TON of money on an iPhone. I can't figure out how to connect my bank account at home to my app account so I can Skype my family. Please help!!!! I don't have a credit card nor do they gove debit cards to foreigners here, or at least it's really hard so I'm using my bank at home and still have a debit there. My phone number is 8 numbers plus the country code which is strange! Another thing is I was given a phone email that I was told to use for texting but I'm not sure how that works!! It's so frustrating too because no one speaks English here and I'm not very tech savvy. God bless you if you can help :)
whichever app store you are connecting to, hyou need a credit card with an address in that country. Also, itunes gift cards must be in local currency too.
