  • How to connect my macbook pro retina and PC to the same monitor(s)?

What's up all - any recommendations here are highly appreciated.  I have a gaming PC setup with two (2) DVI out's going to two 24" monitors.  One monitor has DVI, HDMI, the other just has DVI.  No use in talking VGA here.
    I also have a 15" MBP Retina.
Question:  What equipment (KVM switch) and setup would allow me to just have my monitors, mouse, keyboard in place and easily switch between my PC and MBP?

a other way is use the T model. connect the two mac with the  Thunderbolt cable or FireWire cable

How to connect my macbook pro to an older tv thas has rca cables?

The yellow RCA jack is called "NTSC Analog Composite Video", or "Video" for short. You need an adapter to "Video".
Exactly which MacBook Pro (or which output Display Port) do you have?

  • How to connect a mac pro A1186 to 27" cinema display

Hello! Trying to connect a newer display to older mac pro.
Have a mac pro A1186, want to connect it to a 27" Cinema display. Any way to do this? I've read that there needs to be a female-mini-to-male-dvi converter, and that those don't exist?
    Any suggestions or help?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
A new graphics card wouldn't be a bad idea; but if you don't want to go this route, I know from experience that the Altona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter works all right. It is discontinued now, but I'm sure a few of them can still be had through eBay or another similar source. I bought and used one to connect a 2006 Mac Mini to a 27" Cinema Display a while back. Hope this helps.

  • HT201364 I just bought a new mac pro retina and it  won't install mavericks?

    Hi,
as stupid as this question sounds when it says OSX 10.9 as the software version that means my new mac pro is actually already up to date with mavericks?
it wont allow me to update to mavericks which seems odd as its brand new. im assuming its already installed.
    it says osx 10.9.
just checking what this means. Im in the process of buying office 365 for it and a mac mini so i wanted both machines to be the same so i dont have andy glitches. (tried pages but im a die hard word user for 20 years)
    any help would be appreciated,
    thanks
    Niall

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X 10.9 is OS X Mavericks, so you are already using OS X Mavericks. The problem is that your Mac is using a special OS X Mavericks version, so you may be getting a message saying that your computer is not compatible if you are downloading Mavericks from the Mac App Store. Ignore it.
Also, note that OS X 10.9.1 is the most recent version. To update your computer, open  > Software Update.

  • Connecting my Mac Pro to my HDTV - impossible!

I have recently purchased a mac pro and wish connect it usind a dvi to hdmi cable to my hdtv. None of resolutions on the display preferences make the screen fit properly, there are either borders or the image is just too big (top and bottom panels are cut off) Here is what I have done so far to fix this problem -
Tried every setting on the mac - overscan, ratio, refresh and all the resolutions.
Tried all the settings on my TV.
I have used a vga cable instead, which works (but this is not very good quality on a big screen)
I have downloaded third party programs such as sinresx and displayconfig and started to make custom resolutions. (I have read tutorials and done it properly) But all the resolutions I come up with don't seem to look right - I guess its a trial and error thing.
My HDTV is a sony KDL26U2000. When going through a regular VGA cable the TV says its a 1280 x 768 size screen. When configuring in sinresx the resolution comes up as 1920 x 540 for the default. I have adjusted the values so it fits on the screen perfectly but it just looks weird and squashed together this time.
I am really really dissapointed in apple and its lack of support regarding this issue, If I spend £2000 for a professional computer for video editing I expect to be able to connect it via the highest quality output and not some blurry flickering VGA output. I also expect it to be compatible with a HDTV.
I am lost for words and have no clue what to do. Is there an official apple administrator that can give me an answer? Or anyone?

Sorry I am not an expert in these things but I have had a number of Apple computers hooked up to my 42" LCD HDTV (not a Sony) and everyone of them has synced 100% border to border with whatever resolution I pick. I have not hauled my Mac Pro down to the tv to try it. These have all been with a DVI to HDMI converter cable.
With my Macbook Pro I can chose any of the available resolutions and the TV locks in immediately (the TV supports up to 1080p so pretty much everything is covered) With my Mac Mini that I keep on the TV all the time everything locks in immediately as well although I avoid the 1080i for quality reasons and 1080 makes the text too small anyway. Whenever I change resolutions in Display Prefs my TV just flashes the message "Signal HDMI 720p" or whatever and away it goes.
Do you have another Mac to try this with to determine if it is the Mac or your TV not being able to sync well? That would be something to try - lots of people use Mac Minis as home theater units (as I do) without any syncing problems. Possibly the high-end video card in the Mac Pro is using too high a sync rate or something but again this should be able to be selected in the display preferences if it is detected that your display needs this option.

They are able to use the network settings of the TC i.e. they can connect to the internet via the wifi through the TC but when they try and connect to the AirPort Disk this is where it is not allowing a connection.
I don;t have the drive shared out at all at the moment, is this necessary?  How do I do this if so?
I have attached the screen shots of all the settings.

  • Does my new mac pro retina come with antivirus. And, for how long

does my new mac pro retina come with antivirus? And, for how long?

    Yes it does.
It's called OS X Lion - fully updated.
There are no known viruses for MAC OS.
Your current OS is your best protection
If however, you want to feel more secured, download ClamX AV and do a scan once a week to give you peace of mind.
    Good luck

  • How to connect my Mac book Pro to a TV

How to connect my MacBook Pro to the TV using HDTV cable

I am assuming your TV has HDMI connector.
In that case, if your MacBook is the retina-one, you have HDMI connector there too. All you need is HDMI cable to connect teh two.
If your MacBook has thunderbolt port instead, you need Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?

I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.

The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality.

I am going to buy either a Mac Air or Mac Pro Retina 8GB RAM and 256GB. And as I have to still run Windows programs I will install Parallels 9. As the Mac are both 64bit machines does that mean I need to install Windows 7 64bit or just install 32 bit? (Going with Win7 as I hate Win8). And I will install Office Pro 2013 64 bit too or 32 bit or is that automatically selected by the underlying OS (I use Word, Excel and Access mainly for a membership database of a local club) ? I am not a power user so would appreciate advice on way to go

Again thank you.  If I only use word, excel and access in the Win environment and Mac OS for email and safari for internet do I need anti virus software . Ie my connection to the world is mac only and I use office pro only to ruin the club, newsletters, membership database etc. and of course anything I do there can drag/drop to the mac environ to email.  That's my understanding anyway.  Next will my existing .pst file copy directly into mac mail or do I have to runs translator  as I recall reading something about that ages ago when I started thinking Mac
