Contact the University's IT dept, they may be able to set something up on the network to allow the ATV to connect without the need for a user name/password.

Hi,
Fingerprint scanners are not popular enough devices to be supported by Java yet. There's no general API or Java interface for it.
Each manufacturer of a fingerprint device will probably just ship their own drivers or SDKs. More than likely DLL's, so you'd need to write some JNI to call them.
If you want to allow your application to work with multiple devices, you will have to design it to do that. Ie. write a general "Fingerprint" interface, and write a class which implements that interface for each device you want to support.
Eg.

i figured that some nokia 2700 come with map software (i know it dont have gps) ,but you browse offline .mine dont have it but i saw it had the folders for the maps.
when i go to http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download it says my phone has already installed the software ,with the nokia pc suite i can donwload and install maps for various countries but not the software to view them.
any ideas how to install the nokia maps for this phone?

I'm also having the same problems. I guess one way you could limit heap fragmentation is to make your midlet load all your classes at the start of the application one by one then nulling them. This worked for me for this app that i'm writing. I have a player class which only loads when the game canvas class is started. This used to throw an OutOfMemory error in my application. I then tried instantiating the player class at the start of the midlet then nulling it. I guess this loaded the class definition onto the start of the heap memory instead of at the middle of the application. This could have fixed the heap fragmentation problem. I'm not sure if my explanation is correct though, but i checked the debugger on my IDE and this seems to be the case.
I also have a question for you guys, have you ever tried using HttpConnection classes and connecting via GPRSin your apps? I have a problem wherein the phone runs out of memory after using by the connection classes. I close, flush and null the streams after using them, but it doesn't seem to release the heap memory that was used. Has anyone else had this problem?

How to Connect the Apogee Duet with Digitech Vocalizer 3

I have been trying to figure out how to interface my guitar and microphone with the Apogee Duet 2 using the Digitech Vocalizer 3 (voice correction). I would like someone from Apple to verify what I have found, but this is how I finally got it to work:
1. Connect you microphone directly to the Vocalizer as shown in the instructions. If you are using a condenser mic, remember to activate the 48v power on the back of the Vocalizer.
2. Set the Vocalizer output to mono (on back of device), and connect one cable from either output port of the Vocalizer to the Input 2 of the Apogee Duet.
3. Use a 1/4" splitter (one mail 1/4" that splits into 2 female 1/4") to attach two standard 1/4" guitar amp cables to the output of your guitar. Connect one of these to the "Guitar In" port on the back panel of the Vocalizer. Connect the other to Input 1 of the Apogee Duet.
4. Open the Apogee Maestro Software, and select "Input". You should see both devices listed (1 and 2). The Apogee will not recognize the Vocalizer as a microphone, so set both of these devices to "Inst".
5. Open Garage Band and add both instruments.
6. When you add your guitar, remember to set your Input Source to "Mono 1" and turn the Monitor On so you can hear it through your hed phones. Also, make sure you have the headphone Icon selected on the Instrument panel.
6. When you add you Vocalizer (Instrument 2), select "Vocals" and "no effects". Remember to set your input source to "Mono 2" and turn your Monitor On so you can hear it through your hed phones. Also, make sure you have the headphone Icon selected on the Instrument panel.
7. If you want to hear and record both instrumental tracks, go the "Track" menu and select "Enable Multi-Track Recordning."
In summary, the Apogee Duet does not appear to recognize the Vocalizer as a microphone, so you have to set up the connection from the Vocalizer to the Duet as another instrument.

#3 Can't you just plug your guitar into the Vocalizer's guitar in jack and then use the guitar thru jack to the apogee?

firewire pc-card, that way it gets it's own firewire bus which it pretty much needs. Just using an audio interface for stereo playback on the same bus I had to set the thing to 24 channels instead of 32 to get rid of bandwidth problems.

NAT is the default adapter type in VirtualBox, which will work in almost any configuration and networking environment. Using the NAT adapter, the host system will establish connections on behalf of the guest OS. NAT requires that the corresponding VM guest adapter uses DHCP and cannot be used to provide any services unless you configure port forwarding (>1024) at the VirtualBox VM NAT adapter.
Bridged networking is the most transparent adapter type, but requires a physical network adapter on the host OS, which is limited depending on the host system and hardware, e.g. wireless. It also requires that the user understands network and routing restrictions of the host system in case of using the interface to communicate between the host and VM. A combination of host-only and NAT may sometimes be necessary to allow the VM to connect to the internet and allow the host to communicate with the VM guest OS.
Btw, the host-only adapter IP actually works on behalf of the host OS and can be used to allow the VM to access the host system. So if Internet is not required, the NAT or bridged adapter are not required. I'm not sure if many people realize that, since it's not really mentioned in the documentation. So if you use the host-only adapter, simply use the host-only IP instead of the host system real IP to connect the VM to the host OS.
I also switched to VirtualBox a couple of years ago, mainly because it provides more VM hardware options, is free and because of the ability to manage multiple virtual machines and group them together. I have about 70 virtual machines for testing and evaluating configured on my home computer. I also like the option in VirtualBox to clone a VM based on a Snapshot.
VMware provides a Virtual Network Editor in VMware Workstation (KB 1018697), which allows to customize any of the existing virtual network adapter or add new ones. The available technologies under any Type 2 hypervisor are very similar between different products:

How to connect the iPad to a TV?

I see that the Netflix app can now output from the iPad.
We would like to show movies on our television. Is the "Apple iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter" the accessory to buy? Is there something else we'd need?
We have older TV sets and use RCA component cables to input feeds. (You know, the old red-yellow-white cables.) (That's how our Tivo connects.)
Currently, we connect our MacBook Pro to the TV using Apple's "DVI TO VIDEO ADAPTER KIT-GEN M9267G/A". You just plug a RCA cable into it and run that into the video input jack on the TV. You run another cable from the headphone jack on the MBP to the TV's audio. I realize that connector wouldn't work with an iPad, but what would?
Our sets are standard definition (definitely not HD).

The VGA adaptor delivers the best resolution of the 3 possible "video-out" solutions that Apple offers. Now that both Netflix and Air Video have reved their apps to do video out it seems like the next natural thing is to figure out how to convert the VGA out to an HDMI signal so we can send movies from our iPad to our TVs. There are meny VGA > HDMI converters and I have tried the Atlona VGA to HDMI Scaler/Converter (USB Powered). Model: AT-HDVieW as I saw it mentioned (http://bit.ly/c5U7nv) as a specific match to the iPad. It didn't work. There is no setting on the iPad to send video out rather than display it on its own screen. It switches automatically when it senses "something" attached to the VGA adaptor. This "sensing" works flawlessly when connected to a real VGA monitor but I'm guessing that the Atlona converter is not sending the needed signal back to the iPad to trigger it to dump the video. Trouble being, there's a nasty hiss in the background. Tried plugging my boys mp3 player into the lead, and that works fine.

In my knowledge you can connect the Sat Pro P100 to HiFi only via a 2-RCA Audio Y cable adapter. In my knowledge the notebook does not support the S/PDIF audio out so you will be able only to use an analog sound port.
You could also buy a stereo adapter with 2x cinch jacks to connect the notebook to the Hifi. Such adapter can be plugged into the headphone jack

3. A Samsung TV with RGB port, & HDMI port.
I want all these displays ( macbook, Apple thunderbolt display & the Samsung Tv) connected at the same time, I had a trial to connect them using a minidispaly adapter to RGB port & HDMI port in the TV but it didnt worked.

It includes a FireWire port, but no HDMI port, so would need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (1920 x 1200 max) for the TV. This would use the second Thunderbolt port, so the Belkin dock has to be used with the port on the back of the Thunderbolt display, not between the computer and display.

This can be your Time Machine drive. Connect the Thunderbolt display to the computer, one port of the drive to the port on the back of the display, and a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to the second Thunderbolt port on the drive.
You will have three displays with differing resolutions, so mirroring is not going to fill each screen at full resolution.

A friend has installed Lightroom 5 on my MacBook air. he transferred all my picture that were on my IPhone an on Iphoto on Lightroom but without making virtual copies systematically. He put the original (real?) pictures on a external hard disk under Data_photos folder to allow more memory space on my Mac book Air. My problem now that when I connect the external hard disk with my computer the connexion does not happen automatically. it is like if Lightromm does not recognize the path to get connected to the original/real picture and therefore I cannot see pictures with all their potential and I cannot work on these. I am stuck! What should I do to 1) create this link? 2) create then virtual copies in order to be able to work on my computer without been obliged to connect my external hard disk to be able to use the application Lightroom. The friend who helped me disappeared! He is not in Japan and unable to help me.I hope you can help me. I have been looking for support to apple stores, photo shops, computer specialists but I have not found the expert capable to help me. I am leaving in Geneva. This is the LabVIEW Real-Time forum, so I suggest that in the future that you post this type of question to the Multifunction DAQ forum.
For the simplest solution you will have to connect your button to a digital line of your board, consult the sc-2345 user manual for a diagram of where these lines are exposed. You will have to connect your start button in series with a line that is high, such as your 5V pin or another digital line. Then connect this to a digital line that will be your start trigger.
Your program can poll the digital line that is connected to your button in a while loop and when it goes high, it lets the rest of the program execute. For the programming, I suggest you take a look at the shipping examples that come with LabVIEW. If yo
