How to connect to Samsung Synmaster monitor?

I am decidedly NON-tech savvy, and I'm looking for instructions for "the complete dummy."  I have a MacBook OS X 10.5.8 laptop that I want to connect up to a new Samsung Syncmaster SA300 LED computer monitor.  It is supposed to be "compatible for Mac."  However, the User's Manual provided on CD does not start up an play properly on my MacBook which means I can't install the monitor driver and am therefore going nowhere.  I downloaded the printed version from Samsung, but the only instructions are for setting up a PC.  I have both units properly connected, and the monitor does come on with my MacBook's background photo but none of my icons.  I'm also not able to open the dock on my MacBook.
Could some kind soul walk me, step by step, through the process of how to get the monitor and MacBook working together?  Please be kind enough to use layperson language.  I'm not kidding.  I was born many decades ago, and tech-speak totally confuses me.  I'd be grateful for your help!!!  Thanks.

Hello,
I can't install the monitor driver and am therefore going nowhere.
You don't need to install any drivers for Mac usage.
The MacBook can do two types of display on it... Mirrored of the the Internal, or Extended, a second whole screen without Dock & such, but window can be dragged to it.
In System Preferences>Displays, you should see settings there and once both show up with Extended, you can drag them to Arrange them, or even drag the Dock or Menu in that pref to the Monitor you want to be the main one.
Pretty ancient here myself, so let me know if you need more info... I don't have a Laptop or second monitor, but I think I understand hoe it works.

  • TV Apple TV MacBook Air:How to connect my computer's monitor and TV as multiple monitors (NOT mirroring)

I have an insignia TV, an apple TV I just bought less than a month ago, and a Macbook Air (mountain Lion) and a MacBook pro (mountain lion).
I am able to connectboth of my computers with the TV to mirror my screen/monitor, but I have not been able to figure out how to use the apple TV to use my TV as a second monitor, like I was able to do with my HDMI cable.
when I bought the Apple TV the person who I talked to at the store told me I would be able to do it, but I havent been able to do it through system preferences and the options for display only show as mirroring through Airplay. I dislike mirroring because while I play something on my computer (or somebody else does) I'd like to still be able to use my computer for browsing or doing homework.
Please help me find a way in which I can make my TV as a second monitor tu my computer without having to have an HDMI cord across the room. I have a puppy and I have had problems with that. That is actually the reason why I considered buying the Apple TV device.
NOTE: In case you know a way to connect my TV to my Macs I have a time capsule and my TV has a DVI, two HDMI, and a USB ports.
    thank you!

  • How to connect PB to LCD monitor?

I have a 26 inch PC LCD monitor. It has a an svga and an hdmi inputs. What type of cable do I need to connect my PB to this monitor? Thank you

You can use a DVI to HDMI cable, along with an audio mini jack cable, since DVI doesn't carry an audio signal. One source for cables is http://www.monoprice.com/products/department.asp?c_id=109

  • PowerBook 160   Powerbook Video Cable: how to connect to mdern flat monitor?

I wish to connect a Macintosh PowerBook 160 (very old) to a modern flat monitor. I have got the Macintosh PowerBook Video Cable that connects with one end with the Powerbook and has a sub-D 15 (two rows of holes) female connector on the other end. What kind of connection is required between the video cable and the 15-pins (three rows) of the monitor?-- Thanks for any hints, Peter

If your "modern flat monitor" is a widescreen display (16:9 aspect ratio), its optimal resolution will not be supported by the PowerBook 160 and its very limited 512K of VRAM.  Even if you used a Mac-to-VGA adapter to connect the display's VGA plug to the PowerBook's display cable, the onscreen result would be unacceptable.  I wouldn't waste the $$ attempting to do so.  Mac users with much newer and capable Power Macs having PCI graphics cards sometimes have compatibility problems with new displays.

Occasionally when I wake the 2014 Mac mini from sleep the colors on the monitor are very bright.  I go into systems preferences and then display.  I click on the color button and it will change back to normal.  I have tried both a DVI to mini displayport and VGA to mini displayport.  Problem occurs with both.  What else can I try to prevent this from happening?

  • How Can I Connect 2 External Display Monitors to a MacBook Pro? Help

I want to know if I can (and How to) connect 2 external display monitors to a MacBook Pro... late 2006 & the new Unibody MBP.
    I'll appreciate

Requires additional hardware - the Matrox DualHead2Go. For the late 2006, you'd need the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, and for the unibody you'd need the DualHead2Go DP Edition, with appropriate cabling (and a DVI-to-VGA adapter for the late 2006 MBP).

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

  • How to set up a samsung 2433LW monitor as a second monitor?

I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE running on Windows 7 64bit.  I have one monitor attached, a HP 2311x connected using one of the two available DVI ports.  When I connect a second monitor, a Samsung 2433LW using the second DVI port, the second monitor is not recognised and has a black no input screen and the original HP monitor loses all shortcut icons and only the desktop background is visible.
Please advise how I can get my second monitor to work.
    Thanks.

Does the Samsung 2433LW monitor work by itself on the computer???
    It sounds like the Samsung is taking over as the primary display and the HP is becoming the secondary display. Try swapping the DVI cables in the back of the computer and see if  that helps. Here is a photo of the back of the original display card in your HP Pavilion Elite HPE-540me Desktop Computer;

  • How to connect my Cinema Display as a second monitor

I just purchased a new 27-inch iMac, and I explained to the Apple folks that I had a 17-inch cinema display (silver clad model) that I wanted to connect, for a dual monitor set up. They told me just to get the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, but I was surprised to realize that's not going to work.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, and what connector is actually needed? I have the big old white power brick that I bought to daisy chain my old 17 and 23 inch displays with my old configuration (Mac Pro).
Or can you not have a second monitor with an iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

How do I connect my Samsung Series 8000 plasma tv to my 27" imac (2.8 GHz Intel Core i7) to use as a display?

I believe we have the same model of iMac (late 2009) in which unfortunately Apple did not provide audio signals in the mini-DisplayPort out port.  This Kanex adapter will pick up your audio as well as the DisplayPort signal and combine them in an HDMI signal that you plug into the Samsung HDTV.

I tried to connect it with a monitor (VGAcable) and with a tv (svideo cable) tusing fn+F7 function but nothing!
Fn+F7 doesn't works and I don't know why, How i can fix this problem? any tips?
    thank you in advance

To get the display on external monitor as it does not need the extra configuration unless some additional feature is required.
I suggest you to connect the external 15" or 17" monitor with display port and transfer the display once you start the laptop do not wait for Windows screen to appear.
Best would be make the laptop boot into BIOS and then transfer the display to external monitor.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj
