How to connect to the internet

I installed Solaris Express Developer Edition 9/07 yesterday.I have a ADSL USB modem AT-AR206.I want to know How to create a connection to the internet

O.P.
You connect your Solaris PeeCee to the Internet in the same way you should be connecting your MS Windows PeeCee.
Your ISP connects to the high-speed modem.
The modem connects to a router.
You configure the router to communicate with the ISP including any special PPoE setup.
You connect your computers to that router.
The router does all the hard work and its mere existance gives you an additional hardware firewall to shield you from the bad guys out there.
If the retail prices of routers are high in your local stores, then get one from an online auction web site. Ebay is an example of such a web site.

  • Mac OS 9.1 How to connect to the internet

How do I connect to the Internet with PPP (dial-up access and a modem? What are the procedures. I am using a OS 9.1.
    Please help.

Well, first you need an ISP=Internet Servce Provider to provide you with internet service.
You can then go to your Mac OS Help Menu for detailed instructions. You will need to make the connection through your TCP/IP Control Panels.
If you run into problem you can check Knowledge Base Article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106871 Mac OS 8, Mac OS 9: Troubleshooting a Dial-Up/PPP Internet Connection.
Post back if you run into any problems. Knowledgable users still using dialup service and/or know more about it than I do will be able to help you.
    Good luck!

  • How to connect to the internet using ethernet

I have an iMac 10,1 and am unable to connect it to the internet using an ethernet cable.
I have a more recent Mac Book and I just plugged in the ethernet cable to it, clicked the setting in Network settings, and I was connected.
On the iMac it keeps saying, diagnostics can't fix it etc..?
On the left panel in Diagnostics, Ethernet has a green light, Network Settings an orange light, and ISP a green light (internet and Server are Red).
I'm using Comcast cable, and they just say the settings should appear automatically on a Mac (which they apparently did on my Mac Book!)
    Any suggestions, appreciated.

  • CS5 Mac Kuler - Not connected to the internet

    Hi,
I am having problems using Kuler on my Mac. I have CS5 master collection installed but Kuler just does not work. A colleague has the same suite installed and his Kuler works just fine! We have tried re-installing the suite but to no avail.
We have tried copying my installation on to his machine, as well as copying all preferences. But still it doesn't work!
We are completely stumped and require some assistance.
The machines does have internet access and I also have CS4 installed and Kuler works fine, it seems to be limited to CS5 and just on my machine.
Any ideas on how we can fix this?
    Regards,
    Rob
*MODERATOR COMMENT* The source of the problem seems to have been identified. See the post by employee Carey Burgess on February 2nd for details:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3443382#3443382

@luckynorth and anyone else still facing this problem:
I'd like to help you all get this fixed.
At present, I do not have any issues getting connected to Kuler via any Adobe CS5 application on Mac OS or Windows.
I did before, and it was because I had disabled Internet access to my Adobe applications. Just in case any of you had this same restriction, I posted the fix for this in my reply above.
Everyone, please check that you don't have online access disabled for CS5. In Windows, this is controlled by a registry entry; on Mac OS, it's controlled by a plist file. See this document for details:
    http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_cpsid_84665_en-us
After you have verified that the plist file doesn't exist or is set to a value of 1 on Mac OS, or the registry value is set to 1 on Windows, reboot your computer, and see what happens.
If it's still not working, then reply with the following details:
    - What specific operating system you are using.
For Mac OS, include the exact version, like 10.5.8; you can get this by going to Apple > About This Mac.
For Windows, I mean XP, Vista, or Windows 7, any service packs, and also 32-bit or 64-bit. You can get these details by going into System in the Control Panel.
    - How you connect to the Internet.
    Wired or wireless?
Either way, are you at home, or at work/school (or otherwise connected to some kind of larger network)?
    - Have you installed all updates for your CS5 applications?
Open a CS5 application, go to Help > Updates (or Help > Check for updates), let it check for updates, if any are found, install them, if none are found then note that.
We'll get to the bottom of this; we just need to find out what about your computer/configuration that isn't allowing it to connect properly.

  • How do I connect to the internet with Airport for the first time?

I just got my Airport express and I've been trying to configure it to connect to the internet but it doesn't work and I can't find info on the configurations. I have an ethernet "modem" which I used to connect the cable coming from it to the computer and now I connect it to my Airport. Although the green light is on and in network preferences, it tells me I'm connected to the internet, I can't browse the internet with Safari, etc. I've been trying to find information on how to configure the base station in Airport Admin Utility but there is no specific information. Is there anyone who could help me telling me how to set up the IP adress, if I need one, DHCP, preferences in Airport Admin Utility?? If the ethernet cable is connected to the computer directly I don't need a user ID or anything... It's all setup automatically.

As a minimum, in order to gain access to the Internet with an AirPort Express base station, you will need an Internet Service Provider (ISP) AND an Internet modem or gateway device.
What is the make & model of the Internet modem or gateway device that you have the AirPort Express directly connected to by Ethernet? What exact model of Express do you have?

Did you turn WiFi on in the Settings App? If WiFi is turned on, your iPad should be able to see any WiFi networks that you can connect to and you should be able to tap on one of those, enter a password if needed and then tap the join button.
I get the feeling that you know this and the problem needs further explanation so ... Can you explain in more detail?

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • How to authorise a computer that's not connected to the internet?

i use my the computer in my studio to watch dvd's all the time - who needs a tv when you've got a cinema display? the thing is, i recently purchased some tv episodes from itunes to watch on my studio computer - however, when i try to play them, i get that "this computer is not authorised to play blah blah bah" message. i also get this when i plug my ipod into itunes and try to play my itunes purchased tracks via this computer. when i try to sign in so as to authorise it, it tells me no network is detected.
well, thats because this particular isn't connected to the internet. it's old, it doesn't have wifi, and it's my work computer, so i dont want internet on it anyway - i'd never get anythong done!
so, with most programs requiring you to register/autorize your computer, there's always an option for "if this computer isn't connected to the internet" . however, i didn't see how to use this option for itunes.
which is odd, since every other company in creation has this option right there on the authorization screen.
for the record, i DO NOT WANT TO PUT THIS COMPUTER ON THE INTERNET. it's kind of old, and therefore delecate. so disentangling it from the various studio equipment it's attached to and moving it, along with the big cinema display, to the upstairs room where the ethernet cable is, will not only be a giant pain in the *$$, but also will quite possibly break something - like i said, it's old, it's bones are brittle and it has arthritis and it's happiest left right were it is - to move it is, i believe, to invite disaster.
but i'm confidant apple has provided a solution for this, seeing as all the other software companies i purchase from have managed to so, anyone know how to do this?

"No it is not reasonable. As stated by Jobs in his 'We hate DRM' letter, they are forced to keep the DRM as uncrackable as possible. So this stuff has to remain in an online state."
itunes seems to be bending over backwards on this. amazon.com doesn't seem to have this problem for one.
"you would find that nearly any sofwtare with some kind of offline registration scheme is easily cracked."
i dont spend that much time digging around for cracked software (i prefer to pay for it) but to the best of my knowledge the software i'm thinking of isn't easily available in cracked form. their registration/authorization process is vigorous, but still includes an offline option.
"Nope. Wrong. Notice how it only their music that has these online restrictions and that none of Apple's other software does this. The difference as explained above is clear. Apple has their hands tied on the matter for now."
i probably wouldn't be half so pi... annoyed if my macbook didn't just break down a week after the warrantee ran out. apple's free pass on their weaker points has expired as far as i'm concerned. i suppose there will continue to be disciples, but i'm about ready to sell all 5 of my apples and switch to the darkside.
anyone want a black ibook with a broken dvd drive and no warrantee? going cheap, yours for 30 pieces of silver.

  • How on earth could I be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when it is not connected to anything?

I'm not entirely displeased with the situation but I cannot see how I could be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when the Airport is not connected to anything.
    Weird huh?
I have a separate non- Airport wireless network connected to the Internet.  I had previously set-up the Airport to link with this network but disconnected it (by resetting it) as music streaming was unlistenable due to frequent drop out.  I now just have the Airport Express as a standalone wireless network only connecting to the stereo to stream music from devices.
My devices are only connected to the Airport network with cellular data off. Yet I can still connect to the Internet AND listen to streaming music (without drop-out no less).
I don't want to fix it but I would like to know how the frag it could happen so i don't screw it up accidentally.

I would say you still have something of the previous setup.
To be sure you don't mess up, save the configuration.. go to the top menu area of the airport utility and export configuration.. which will land on your computer.
Now you can recover at anytime to the current setup.
How it works.. that is magical ..
Open the airport utility.. edit.. and take a screenshot and post it of the following pages..
    Internet wireless network
THen we can tell you how it is working.
