How to connect to Visual Administrator?

Hi all!
I want to connect to visual administrator to configure BI JDBC Connector.
However the problem is that i don't know how to launch the Visual administrator.
On the step by step document, it's said that VA can be launched using the file "C:\usr\sap\(sid)\jc00\j2ee\admin\go.bat" but i think it isn't installed on the computer.
So may i have an advice or a way of installing it.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
Lahoucine

Hi Lahoucine,
have you installed the BI Java components? If not, then there is no Visual Administrator on your server...
If yes, it is located in the folder as you descibed depending on the drive you installes the system (c: or D: or...), the <SID> which is the three-letter SystemID of your SAP system and the folder JCXX where XX is anumber between 00 and 99 (corresponding to the system number of your SAP System).
Hth,
Michael

  • Error while connecting to Visual administrator - Server0 getting Restarted

    Hi Experts,
Kindly help me to Tune the JVM Parameters For AS Java ( Enterprise Portal 7)
We are Having our Development Portal on a 32-bit Machine and recently we have migrated the same to a 64-Bit with SAP OS/DB. We are Using IBM DB2 9.1 Fix pack 2.
Now I have to Configure the Java Virtual machine (JVM) Parameters for the EP instance in the 64-bit Hardware. The Hardware details are as Follows :
    Ram - 10 GB
    Paging Memory - 25 GB
    OS - Win 2k3 - SP2
    HDD - 500 GB
Current JVM Parameters : For (Server0)
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    -XX:PermSize=256M
    -Xms2048M
    -Xmx2048M
    -XX:NewSize=171M
    -XX:MaxNewSize=171M
Now when iam connecting to Visual Administrator (VA) with administrator it is connecting upto 20 % - 25 % and giving a error - (Ping Timeout - connection to server Lost) and the Server0 is Restarting.
i have modified Xmx and Xmx to 3072 and restarted the J2ee Engine. And now for some time it is ok and again giving the same error.
And modifying the Server0 JVM parameters is sufficient or we have to modify Instance --> Servers General JVM Parameters Too ?**
i Believe this is the problem with JVM Parameters. Correct me if iam wrong
Please Help me to solve this Issue

  • "User authentication failed" when connecting with Visual Administrator

    Hello,
I am having trouble making a connection to my local J2EE Engine using the Visual Administrator (VA).
I open the VA interface and create a new connection. The default User Name is "Administrator". I put in "localhost" for host, "50004" for port and leave the Transport Layer selection to "Default".
When I try to connect this way I get the following message:
    User authentication failed
Next I went into Start|Settings|Control Panel|Users and Passwords  and saw that there were several ids created by the Developer Workplace (DW) installation. The ids that I see are: j2eadm,sapadmin,sapinstall and SAPServiceJ2E
I checked all of them to see what groups they're members of and they're all at least members of "Administrators" group.
There are also 3 new groups that must have been created by the DW installation: SAP_J2E_GlobalAdmin, SAP_J2E_LocalAdmin and SAP_LocalAdmin.
The j2eadm id belonged to all 3 new sap groups so I changed its password to something I'd remember and then changed the connection to use that login.
When I tried to connect thru VA using this id and the new password I still get the "User authentication failed" error message.
Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    David.

    Hi,
During the installation the SAPINST asks for a Administrator  Password.. This password is very important.
We had kept same passwords for all userids to start with.
This helped reduce lot of confusion.
Warning: if you enter the wrong password 5 times, the userid 'Administrator' gets locked.
However there is an Emergency password recovery procedures.

All of a sudden when I want to connect to the visual admin on my productive EP6 (/usr/sap/<SID>/JC<NR>/j2ee/admin/./go) after when I give my password an click on connect it does a little % connecting to database and than gives me the error:

When I click on the right sided ! it comes with the task error message:
    Error while connecting
    java.lang.NullPointerException
Nothing had been changed and in the night it worked but in the morning I got called by another engineer that he wasn't able to connect to the VA to do some changes SAP had given them to change.
Hope anyone had had this same strange issue and has a solution on it

It seemed that the logging of from the VA wasn't done correctly during some time (probably the did not first do a logout and than an exit, but exited right away)
After a stop and start of the portal I was able to login again without the error.

  • User Authentication Failed via http BUT not with Visual Administrator !!?

    SAP Netweaver 2004s Application Java
    Hi All,
Since a couple of days, I have a problem concerning authentication to the java apllication on a SAP Netweaver 2004s.
Using the user ‘Administrator’, I CAN logon the Visual Administrator tool, with the same user I tried to logon via http://host:port/nwa without success.
At the beginning, I was thinking about a problem of password then I enabled the emergency user SAP*, the problem was the same. Ok with Visual Administrator but not via http.
Here is two logs found in folder : D:\usr\sap\SID\JC02\j2ee\cluster\server0\log\system\

<b>Do you have an idea for me? Why a user can connect via Visual Administrator and not via the http interface?</b>
    Thanks in advance
    Yves

    Hi,
I found the solution this last week-end.
This behavior let's thinking to a problem of authentication.
But the problem was in SQL, an index was missing in table J2EE_CONFIG, called J2EE_CONFIG_I3

  • Visual administrator stuck at 99%

    Hi All,
While I try to connect to visual administrator in PI 7.0 , it is stuck at 99% and not connecting .
Ny help ? Where do I check the log where it is stuck ?
      Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Suman

    hi chittaranjan,
first you have to stop the SAP J2EE Engine. Under Windows, you can use the Microsoft Management Console for SAP Systems (SAPMMC). As an alternative or for UNIX systems, use the tool jcmon, which is located in the engine's /usr/sap/<SID>/sys/exe/run directory.
Note: You only need to stop a single server. You do not need to stop the dispatcher.
To stop the server using jcmon:
          1. Start a shell or command prompt.
          2. Switch to the directory /usr/sap/<SID>/<j2ee-instance>/j2ee/os_libs.
          3. Execute the command
          jcmon pf=../../../SYS/profile/<sid>_<j2ee-instance>_<host>
          4. Enter 20 to start the local administration menu.
          5. Enter 4 and then the process index number (not the PID) to stop the server.
Starting the SAP J2EE Engine in Console Mode
To start the server in console mode:
          1. View the server's property file:
          /usr/sap/<SID>/<j2ee-instance>/j2ee/cluster/instance.properties
This file contains the server properties in the form <key>=<value>, whereby each key is prefixed with an indicator. For example, for the key ID169739450.MaxHeapSize=128, the prefix is ID169739450.
          2. Search for the entry <prefix>.Type=server and note the prefix.
We refer to this indicator as <prefix-server> below.
          3. Start a new shell or command prompt.
          4. Switch to the directory /usr/sap/<SID>/<j2ee-instance>/j2ee/os_libs.
          5. Set the library path to this directory.
The name of the environment variable to use depends on your operating system (LD_LIBRARY_PATH for most UNIX systems,SHLIB_PATH for HP-UX, LIBPATH for AIX, PATH for Windows). You can find the name and value to use in the developer trace file /usr/sap/<SID>/<j2ee-instance>/work/dev_jcontrol; search for "lib path" for the node for <prefix-server>.
For HP-UX, also set the environment variable LD_PRELOAD to the base name of the Java VM shared library. In this case, the name to use depends on your CPU type; use either "LD_PRELOAD=libjvm.sl" for PA-RISC or "LD_PRELOAD=libjvm.so" for HPIA64.
          6. To start the server, execute the command:
          jlaunch -file=../cluster/instance.properties -nodeName=<prefix-server> pf=../../../SYS/profile/<sid>_<j2ee-instance>_<host>-traceFile= <trace_file> -startMode=console
Enter the command in a single line. Note that the parameter pf does not have minus sign as a prefix. This is correct.
          7. Wait until the server has started. (The prompt '>' appears.)
    regards
    chandra
