How to connect via null modem cable / console?

Hi
I need to connect from a laptop (solaris 10) to a sun fire v120 via null modem cable.
But I just can't get it work. I tried "tip hardwire" but it says "all ports busy". Looking for a solution I read that I should change in /etc/remote /dev/term/b into /dev/term/b....but this didn't help.
May anyone help me please?
Thank you very much in advance.

You will get an "all ports busy" when tip fails to open the device. It is not the most descriptive of error messages.
I don't know what's wrong. Which command will I have to use to connect via console? And which configurations will I have to make?I'd check
a) that /dev/term/b exists
b) it is owned by uucp
Though I'm not exactly sure why you are using term/b, since most laptops don't have a second serial port, so I would presume that it would be term/b.

Why are you posting in this forum about what occured with an independent service provider?  How is is at all relevant to Apple??  In fact, service by any person or business not authorized by Apple voids any waranty.

Thanks for the reply. I never get the option to "Restore Previous History" from History. I don't even have the box checked that asks to delete the history when Firefox closes. I don't know what's wrong, no matter what, I always lose everything. I have the box marked "Show my windows and tabs from last time" for when I open Firefox, but it never shows that, just my homepage. Also, when I check my History, it only shows the pages that I opened since I started Firefox, nothing from before. Even if I were to open up 10 pages now, close Firefox, and open it, the history would only show the homepage that opened this time, not any of the 10 pages that I opened 5 minutes ago.

    Hi qwerty,

  • Question regarding ONT connection via Ethernet and Cable cards

    Hi,
We recently upgraded to Fios Quation 150Mbps/65  plan. We are not getting the advertised speeds (we only get like 5mbps upload) so verizon is sending a tech to switch the ONT connection from coax to ethernet.
I have 2 questions regarding this new setup:
    1. If the ONT communicates with the Fios Actiontect router via ethernet instead of coax from now on, How will the set top boxes and Tivo-esque cable card powered device I currently have connected to coax, talk to the verizon system from now on, if coax is taken out of the equation? Will fios signal still flow through the internal coax wiring of the house? And moreover, I was under the impression that coax was the way set top boxes communicated and derived independent ip addresses from the Fios router, for on deman purposes and what not. How will this work from now on?
    Quiestion 2.
Right next to the wall where the ONT sits, theres's a basement office where we have a PC that connects to the Fios system  via an Actiontect MoCa adapter (ECB2500C) which I assume derives it internet connection from the Fios Actiontec router which sits upstairs in the living room.
Again, with the Coax about to be disabled next Friday in favor of ethernet connection from the ONT, I assume this PC will be left without internet because of the lack of internet signal in the coax? Is this correct?
Question 2.5 If my above assumption is correct, since this office is right on the other side of the wall where the ONT sits outside the house, would it be possible to run an ethernet wire through the wall that connects straight from the ONT to an ethernet switch inside the office, from which I would derive a connection for this basement PC (properly firewalled of course) and then, from said switch, continue running the ethernet wire that would ultimately reach the Actiontec Fios router upstairs from which the rest of the house derives it's internet?  and would this setup affect in any way the propper functioning of the cable boxes in the house?
I'd appreciate your input and any help you can provide so I can have a ballpark idea of what to tell the Fios guy to do when he comes on Friday.
    Cheers.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's not valid to have two devices connected to the ONT, PC and VZ Router.  Must be a single device. The ONT locks onto the MAC Address of the first device it sees. Since you have TV you should have the VZ router as the internet facing router.
    Other options:
    1.  Have the VZ Router located next to the PC in the basement and then use Wireless for all other PC's.
    2.  Have the VZ Router located next to the PC in the basement but run one wire upstairs and connect a switch where other PCs and devices can connect via a wire.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to connect via eithernet when airport is enabled

I have iBooks that are set to automatically connect via airport. When I want to run updates on these iBooks, I would prefer to plug an ethernet cable into them and then run my updates via ethernet. Do I have to first login to the machines and turn off airport in order to force ARD to connect via ethernet? Currently, I have connected them to ethernet and restarted, but in the list they show up with their static IP address that is assigned to their airport card. Any guidance would be appreciated.
    -Ryan

In the network control panel, you can put the network connections in the order in which you want to use them. Can't you achieve your goal by ensuring the ethernet connection is listed above the others?

  • No Modem - How to connect Via Dial UP?

as there is no modem in the mac book pro computers, how can i configure it to use while on holiday where the only connection is a dial-up?
is there any way i can use an old airport base station i have as a modem to go through a dial up?
    any information will be helpful.

Methinks the Airport base station is not going to work as a solution when you want dialup.
What you need is a modem. Apple do a USB modem which is $49 (or whatever the equivalent is wherever you may be), but you ought to find this fast and check the settings before you leave. Trying to do anything on the fly like this always has its own set of problems.
Other modems may work, but you need to think about compatibility between modem, computer and OS.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Apple recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

This is Bob Simpson again from Paris. I followed the advice given in this forum and took out the set of HP printer drivers from the drivers pre-installled in my MacBook Pro and put them on my desktop. After that, the modem worked perfectly. If I want to use my HP Laserjet 1200 printer, I plug it into a USB port on the computer, the computer recognizes it and prints. If I want to use the modem again, I have to take that printer out of my list of printers in the print center. This is a bit of a pain in the neck, but it works. No one at any of the Apple distributers or Apple Care centers was able to figure all this out. Our forum did the job and we should get free awards from Apple, like the installation of the update on all our computers that will settle this problem. Otherwise, my BMacBook pro works like a dream. Many thanks to all of you and jackplug, you don't have to throw away your printer.

You should check settings in NetworkManager as well, since your settings broke after installing Gnome 3 that seems like a possible culprit.
    Generally off topic:
Just as a small note, there is such a thing as a FTP cable, though it is also sometimes written as F/UTP due to newer standards names. Basically it is a TP cable where the cables in it are wrapped in foil, hence the name Foiled Twisted Pair. This gives shielding from interference like magnetic fields unlike a UTP cable which is an Unshielded TP cable. There are also several other cable shielding standard names.

I  used your idea on the receive part and it worked fine but it has two problems:
    1) when  I use the waveform graph  it keeps  increasing the X scale infinitely.
    2) when using the waveform chart and set the chart history to 100 it work fine at first but it goes out of shape after a while.
I think that's all due to the n dimention array is there a way to make a 100 dimention array in a way that new elements erase old ones.
    Another thing I
wanted to be sure I understand it right, on the sending loop I should set the “digital
waveform to binary” to U16 so that at the receiving part the chart (or graph)
will read it as U32 ,but shouldn’t the receiving signal be different than the
    sent signal; since different points.
    I attached the new VI.
    Thank you
