How to connect with a cable box

I cannot seem to find any information on how to connect up an Apple TV in a system that has an external cable box. I live in NY City where you cannot get cable TV without the external cable box. Where in the set up (along with my DVD player and component audio) do I fit the AppleTV?
PowerBook G4 15FW800   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1GB RAM

I've used a 5 X 1 HDMI switch from Monoprice.com and it works just fine. I only have two HDMI inputs on my TV and use one just for the cable box and the other has the 5X1 switch hooked to it. The five ports are: a Toshiba DVR, a Mac Mini, an Apple TV, a DVI to HDMI cable for my MacBook and a spare port hopefully a HD-DVD some day.
One problem is if you calibrate the HDMI port on the TV to a device on the switch, when you switch to a different device the picture may not be optimal for that second (third, fourth or fifth) device. This is not the fault of the switch, rather a function having different devices on one HDMI port.
Rarely, very rarely, when switching to the Apple TV you need to tell it the resolutions for the TV.
Finally, if you are impatient, it takes three seconds or so when switching between devices. Otherwise a switch works great for me.

  • 42SL417 Connection or Compatibility Issue with Explorer Cable Box 8642HDC

I have the TV listed above and recently switched to Brighthouse cable.  Intermittently my TV loses the connection to the cable box and the input information (1080i, 720p, etc) comes up across the top of the TV and the picture resets.  I had the cable guy out and he said that there was a compatibility issue between the TV and the cable box.  I didn't get all the information since he talked to my wife, I was at work.  I don't believe that this is the issue, but wanted to check to see if this was a known problem or if anyone has had a similar experience.  My firmware is 2.2.2, which I believe is the most current.  Any thoughts or ideas?  The best I could get from my wife was that the box was trying to communicate with the TV to maximize resolution and the delay creates the connection problem.  Before I call the cable company back, I wanted to get some opinions.  My thought is that there is a signal problem since the internet had connectivity problems as well.  He changed the cable on the internet connection and said that would fix that, but I can't believe they aren't related.

That is indeed the latest firmware.
You may want to perform a factory reset, as described on page 44 of your user's guide. After the reset, ensure your TV is off and unplug it for a few minutes. All your settings will be reset, so you will have to set up the TV again.
You might also want to try disabling CEC (page 39) or auto aspect ratio feature (page 47).
I don't know for sure that any of this will help, but these are your best bets. Unfortunately, if none of this helps, I'm out of ideas.

if it's the same then likely the connector in your iphone have been damaged

  • I need to know how to connect with my Black Berry

Hi good morning, A few days ago I bought a 3rd generation ipad with wifi and I need to know how to connect with my Black Berry, as if this were the modem. Regards and thanks

The BB has to be set up as a wifi hotspot. After you do that just connect the iPad to the wifi network created on the BB the same way you connect to any other wifi network.

  • Can apple tv be connected at my cable box

Can my apple tv box be connected thru my cable box? My tv only has one HDMI outlet and it used by the cable box.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Probably not, virtually all, if not all cable boxes will have an HDMI output but not an input, you'd need both to be able to connect your Apple TV this way.

My ipod ejects itself, immediately after connecting with usb cable, before synchronizing could start. What’s wrong?

Have you tried plugging the iPod in with a different USB sync cable to verify the issue is not with the cable?  It might not also hurt to connect it to another USB port as well.
Otherwise, try manually placing the iPod into Disk Mode and then connecting it to your PC.

  • Kenex xd. Can i use it with a cable box

can i use the kenex xd with a cable box

Does your cable box output TV ready HDMI? If not, the answer is no because the Kanex XD converts HDMI signaling to mini-DisplayPort signaling only.
If your cable box has TV ready HDMI output, is it either 2560x1440 or 1280x720 resolution? Those are the two resolutions that the 27" iMac's display can accommodate in Target Display Mode.
Otherwise, you will need to get an EyeTV from El Gato to use with your cable box and the new iMac.

  • XBR55X850B remote won't work with Xfinity cable box.

The channels are listed in the cable guide tab (pictures of the listing too), but when I select the channel nothing happens.  Tried the IR blaster cable, still the same.  Xfinity cable box model # XG1-A.  Please help.

Does your cable box work when using the remote that came with the cable box? If it does not you have a problem with the box. If it does you might need to reposition the IR blaster making sure it is slightly infront of the box or run the setup on the TV again where you put in your zip code and the cable company you use.

  • Qosmio G30-116: How to connect the Sky Digital box to watch TV?

I just recently purchased the Qosmio G30-116 on the understanding that I can connect my Sky digital to the laptop (somehow) and watch and record sky on the laptop
    * note: I am not using freeview or normal TV I am using SKY DIGITAL *
usint the supplied converter cable to connect to the video-in on the laptop (video in is like a headfone jack and the converter converts from this to female RCA)
I have plugged it into the laptop then connect a 3 RCA to SCART to it and then into the sky box, when setting up the TV section in Windows Media Centre I follow the instructions until it gets to the point where it scans for a signal, (previous to that I get asked what kind of signal I receive, I select digital but have tried all combinations,) but it doesn't find a signal.
Now I have been told that Windows Media Centre does not support Analogue input and that the connection between the sky box and the laptop is analogue.
Is this correct or not? then, while typing this I have been told by someone else that my laptop is not capable of receiveing SKY DIGITAl as it can't decode it or something. Is this also correct? If not, what am I doing wrong and can anyone help me get this going? And have I been going about this the right way or am I totally up the wrong path if laptop is capable of it?

    To start qosmio player
1.switch off computer using on/off blue lit on/off button to close windows operation.
2.make sure that the computer/windows is switch off
3.Now Touch the TV icon (Blue lit button)only or the DVD player ICOn (blue lit button)only. WITHOUT USING THE USUAL ON/OFF SWITCH
4.The qosmio player/engine will switch on instantly without booting windows.
5.TV will launch within 8 seconds and the same for DVD player
6.Pres F1 or F2 for further functions such as screen size,audio,forward.rewind.pause scanning the TV channnels (auto or manual)
7.You can do the same i.e open the qosmio player/TV with the supplied Toshiba/qosmio remote pressing the Live TV button ONLY for instant TV on or DVD menu ONLY for instant DVD player/CD player on WITHOUT USING THE ON/OFF SWITCH ON THE REMOTE.That is very much similar to a standard TV remote just press the TV or dvd menu .
8.If you touch the same icon buttons i.e TV and dvd player during the standard computer usage /windows operating system,IT WILL LAUNCH THE MEDIA CENTER BY DEFAULT.that's what happen to you!
I use the remote from my bed before going to sleep and the same from bed to watch early morning TV news
Qosmio is excellent for the versatility!
    Enjoy

  • SB Live! 5.1 how to connect with my HiFi-Syst

    Hey,
I want to connect my Soundblaster Li've! 5. with my amplifier.
The amplifier is connected to two stereo loudspeaker.
It?s kind of an old amplifier with DIN connections, so I have to use a Cinch to DIN adapter. But the adapter has two cinch cables, one for the left signal and one for the right. (http://www.starcom-edv.de/shop/pics/AudioAdapter_DIN_St-Cinch_St_s.jpg)
I really don?t know how to connect it to my Soundcard. (http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/4602/picture0032vf.jpg)
Aditional I want to connect my PC with my TV, so I need one Line-Out for my TV.
    Please hep me!

Is tha 2 x RCA to DIN intend for playback or recording input (or are those DIN connector wires equal for Input and output purposes)?
You need another cable: 2 x RCA to 3.5mm (/8") stereo mini jack plug to get the SB and Hi-Fi connected. Connect the PC just the way, you would connect a casette deck into a stereo system (if you know how to do this) so, you get both playback and recording capability or just connect the output from PC into Hi-Fi system).
For that TV connection, do you mean you would use the TV as output device (PC --> TV)?
If that's what you're after, then just use the another line-out from your Li've card for that connection, otherwise (TV -> PC) connect the TV output into Li've Line-In or into some of those, possible available, internal analog inputs (AUX_IN, CD-AUDIO, etc.).

  • How to connect with another Mac via AFP

My parents have a Mac (10.4.8) which is in a different location than my own. They would like to send me some files however, I thought it would be easier if I could just log into their computer from mine, and grab the files myself.
How is this done, if at all? I have the AFP address of their computer (file sharing is on as is Apple Talk on both machines) but can't seem to get this to work by using the connect to server command?
    Any help much appreciated!

If you have broadband internet then why not send the files via email. Quick, simple.
If your computers can be connected via Ethernet or wireless, then you can use file sharing. However, you must be able to communicate directly. That means connecting an Ethernet cable between the two computers or being able to communicate wirelessly - wireless modem, Ethernet modem connected to a wireless router, and Airport cards in both computers. • Direct connecting with parallel cable

I'm trying to get arch linux to do a direct connect via parallel cable to a laptop with windows 98 so I can transfer some files (and I do have the right kind of cable).  Can anyone tell me what programs/man pages I'm supposed to be looking at for this kind of thing?
I know some of you are gonna say right off the bat to get a crossover ethernet cable and connect that way, but the laptop doesn't have an ethernet port and I don't want to get a pcmcia card for this.
To make matters worse, the cd drive on the laptop won't work any more, so using cdrs is out too.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi dlanor78 and tgc.
    There's a nice PLIP mini-how-to available:
    LINUX PLIP MINI-HOWTO
    http://www.linux.se/doc/HOWTO/mini/PLIP.htm
You can connect Linux to Linux, DOS, but not Windows 95 (other variants are not mentioned anywhere).
There's some additional information about PLIP in the following article:
Making a Simple Linux Network Including Windows 9x
    http://linuxgazette.net/issue57/sipos.html
The author gets around the Windows 9x limitation by installing Bochs and running Linux emulation on the Windows machine.
I first read about PLIP in Multitool Linux (Chapter 4. "Soup Cans and String Last-Ditch Communications Methods").
You'll need a Laplink cable for this to work, by the way.

    Win

  • How to connect 2 ethernet cables to 1 port? Help me please.

My computer has one ethernet port, but I need to be able to connect two ethernet cables to it.
I am about to get satellite internet which requires an ethernet port and also about to sign up to a VoIP (Voice over IP) service which also requires an ethernet port.
Is there something I can buy or do to overcome this problem?
Sorry if this question seems obvious, but I really don't have a clue and would be very thankful for some good advice.
    Cheers,
    Crystal Venus.

    Crystal,
You need an Ethernet Hub, or Router. This will allow you to "Split" the connection from your satellite internet to the VOIP phone box, and to your computer. These are readily available at any computer store, like Best Buy, CompUSA etc.
Your internet provider might even have some info for you on this front.
