How to control which Airport device to connect?

Hello,
I am using Airport Extreme as my wifi router while I have another Airport Express configured as "Extend Network" to Airport Extreme at home. With the new Airport Utility, it's so great that I can see the connectivity of Airport Extreme, the Internet and the Airport Express. Also putting the mouse over the device I can see where my iPad/iPhone/iMac connected to using wifi.
I start to notice that my apple devices are all connected to my Airport Extreme (using wifi) and none is connected to the Airport Express even I stand next to the Express. What's the mechanism for the device to connect to, and is there any method to enforce the connection choice?
Regards,
Earthy

Computers will usually connect to the AirPort with the strongest signal automatically.  iOS devices like an iPhone and iPad use a different type of operating system.
If you want the iPhone or iPad to connect to the AirPort Express, power off the device, move it close to the AirPort Express, and then power it back up again to see if it will connect to the Express.
There are no settings on a computer or iOS device that will tell it specifically "where" to connect.

How do I tell what devices are connected to my iTunes

You can't see what devices and/or computers that your account is logged into, all you can do is see which (if any) are associated to your account : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID.

How do i identify what devices are connected to 101, 102, etc on my air port extreme?

Depending on whether a device is connecting using Ethernet or wireless, you need to know the Ethernet ID or AirPort ID of the device. That is the number that is associated with the IP address that is displayed in AirPort Utility.
For example, if you have a Mac....
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and open Network
Click on AirPort , then click Advanced at the lower right
The AirPort ID of the Mac is displayed at the bottom of the window
For the Ethernet ID, click on Ethernet, then click Advanced, then click the Ethernet tab
The Ethernet ID is displayed at the top of the window
    On an iPhone.....
Tap the Settings icon, tap General, tap About, then scan down to locate Wi-Fi Address, also known as the AirPort ID.

how can I tell the device is connected to itunes 12?  I have Windows 8.  I hear that the device is connected, but don't see the device to manage.  Only thing that happens is on the phone it says Trust the computer..   I say Trust and nothing happens.

in ituens at the top where you see the small icons for Music, Movies, TV etc when your device is connected you will see a small icon representing your phone or ipad etc popup click that and it will show you the usual interface for backup and syncing.
if that doesnt happen, like it didint for me initially, you should close itunes fully via task manager if you know how to do this and start it again with the device unplugged then plug it in after itunes has finished loading.

  • How to control which Configuration File a package Opens with in MS Visual Studio 2008 ?

When running our jobs, I know which Configuration File is being used, as it's specified in the path.
But when opening SSIS Jobs in MS Visual Studio, lets say there is four different Config files.
How do you control which one is used when you are working with the job in Visual Studio?
For example in the above screen, you can 'Add' or 'Edit' or 'Remove' Configurations but you can seem to say
"Reload this package with x Configuration", or "Select this particular one at the moment" for instance?

The configuration file mentioned last in the above screen is the one loaded last and the values of this file are applied. You can specify the sequence of the file with the arrow buttons on the right in case if you want a different config file to be loaded
in development and then change them back when you are deploying the package as a job.

  • How to determine Which Database I am Connected to?

    hi everyone,
    10g
I'm going to drop a database via SQL Plus.
I forgot the command that will show which db I'm connected to. Dont want to delete the wrong database!
    Thanks, John

Personally I prefer to use: select name from v$database
to verify what database I am connected to if there is any doubt.
With 10g it is possible to set the sqlpromt to your database name and have it maintained even if you issue a connect statement to another database.

  • How to know which airport card?

Hi, I have an iBook G4 with the small display; an acquiantance has the same laptop and she can use the wireless internet at our house no problem. Now I know I don't need a base station to be able to log into wireless but I don't know which airport card I should get; express, extreme etc ... any clues?
    thanks

Rubens, Welcome to the discussion area!
That's easy! Every iBook G4 (without built-in wireless) uses the AirPort Extreme card.

  • How to learn which iTunes Library is connected with my devices?

I do not love it when my Mac deletes files.
    Karl

You'd have to check the LibraryPersistent IDs of each library against the one on the device. There is a webpage here that claims to be able to extract your ID by processing one of the device backup files, info.plist. It's probably safe, but a quick look at the file we're going to upload shows that it includes the device IMEI & phone numbers, a list of Wi-Fi syncing profiles, info on iBooks, Media and Apps synced to the device along with the presumably obscured ID we want and who knows what else? There is, I suppose, a risk that the data could include AppleID info so I'm somewhat reluctant to test the site.
According to one posting the data should also exist in /private/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes/iTunesPrefs.plist on the device but I'm having a hard time finding an app to explore the my iPhone's file system and there is no certainty the value is human readable there either.
It's not too hard to read the LibraryPersistentID of an iTunes library from the accompanying XML file (line 12 in plain text for me), but reading every one you have on every machine might take some time.
OK, in the interests of confirming whether the site does what it claims to I'm going to test my iPad backup's Info.plist file. If my AppleID gets hijacked at least it was in a good cause.
    Bingo! The website brought back:
    <key>Library Persistent ID</key><string>CCF046191585EA85</string> which matches
<key>Library Persistent ID</key><string>CCF046191585EA85</string> from my xml.

  • How can i find what devices are connected to my airport router

We have dishnetwork for our internet and the last 2 months we have exceeded our usage.  I wanted to know if there was a way to see what was using all of our data.

    Not on an Apple router.

  • How can I get airport to automatically connect to a network again?

    Dear helpful ones,
I connect to the internet and a printer via a wireless router. Previously airport automatically logged in to my network. Recently, I had to reset my router and modem. Since then, airport doesn't automatically log in. I need to manually select my network from the airport menu to join after every time the computer sleeps or is shut down. The password is still in the keychain. I didn't think any of my computer setting had changed or needed to...
If anyone can offer a suggestion as to how to get airport to once again automatically log in to my wireless network, this would be most appreciated.
    Yours, Jeremy

There's quite a common problem with OS X and getting it to auto-connect, although there are fairly obvious simple ways to solve it they didn't always work, the procedure below is long winded but does have a fairly high success rate.
    1. Move "System Preferences.app" to "Applications\"
    2. Delete all preferred networks in Network Preferences
    3. Delete all Airport password in Keychain Access
    4. Restart
    5. Choose network from drop-down menu and enter password
    6. Restart

  • 9.0.3 scan source paths: how to control which files are picked?

Using 9.0.3 Preview. I've been waiting for the "scan source paths to determine project contents" feature, but I'm running into problems with this:
    * It's picking up "Packages" called com.mycompany.CVS, with "files" called Entries, Repository, etc. It messes the display (making it contain twice the number of entries that I'd like it to show).
    * Also, there's no way to exclude certain files or directories from the list (or is there?). I happen to have a few .jsp files lying around which are copied (by our Ant build.xml) to their proper location - but the build insists on compiling these .JSP files, and worse, spits out the error:
Error: JSP files must reside in the server root directory or a subdirectory beneath it
What the heck does this mean?
How do I get around these problems?
    Shankar.

    Hi,
You can quickly create a project based on a directory (e.g. the sourcepath) and its (filtered) contents using the New Project from Existing Source wizard in the New Object Gallery (from File->New...). If you're not too bothered about the project being dynamically updated with changes on the filesystem, you may find this solves your issue.
However, I do agree that there should be some access to filtering for "dynamic" projects. I've logged the following bug against JDeveloper's SCM support (incl. CVS):
2552750 DYNPRJ: WE SHOULD USE THE DYNAMIC PROJECT FILTER API FOR SCM FILES
to support filtering out SCM control files (such as Entries, Root etc.) and the following ER against the IDE:
2552763 DYNPRJ: PROVIDE UI SUPPORT FOR FILTERING
to provide UI for filtering in a dynamic project.
Both the bug and ER are published, so you can track their progress on metalink.
    Thanks,
