How to convert a analog signal to digital signal

Hello,
How to convert an analog signal into digital signal such that every sample of analog signal corresponding to 1.2V will be represented as '1' in digital signal and other samples of analog signal(that are not 1.2v) will be represented(converted) as '0' in digital signal.
And how to display both wavefroms or signals in graph indicators.
Thanks.

If you have 1000 samples, and you want to convert to digital, you are going to get 1000 digital values.  Attached is what I mean.

  • Converting analog signals into digital signals

I have been transferring analog video cassettes to iMovie for further editing by using a digital camcorder (Canon MV960) between the 8mm video camcorder (analog camcorder) and iMac. I have always done this without any cassette in the digital camcorder, i.e. I have been using the digital camcorder as an analog/digital converter only.
I recently acquired iMovie HD 6 but this most recent version of iMovie refuses to import any signal from the analog camcorder via the digital camcorder. The window in iMovie is empty with an error message saying that "no tape". Well, it's true, there is no tape, there never was any tape when I used the previous version of iMovie!
Does this mean that I have to convert the analog video tape into digital video tape and, once recorded in digital format, the digital tape can be imported in iMovie HD 6?
    All cable connections are OK:
    - the analog film could be seen in the screen of the digital camcorder:
    - digital video tape could be imported to iMovie HD 6.

    Hi 5480:
try running a permissions repair (which should actually be done before and after upgrading software). You will find it in applications / utility / disk utility.
Also, this is a copy of how Matti Haveri (iMovie Guru) sets up analoge to DV:
My Analog to DV passthrough settings memo:
    1. Take the tape out of the camcorder
    2. Connect the analog device's audio and video to the camcorder's minijack, use the S-Video jack for video if the output device supports S-Video
    3. Put the camcorder into VTR-mode
    4. Select A/V->DV out: ON, in VTR mode's menu choices
    5. Disable the info display on the the camcorder by toggling its DISPLAY button
    6. Put iMovie (or other DV application) to the Camera Mode
The analog image should now appear on the camcorder's screen as well as on the iMovie's screen.
Note that if you have a tape in the camcorder, you have to put the camcorder's VTR into REC mode (you may pause the tape) but this is not advisable because it produces wear to the tape.
    * Note that the SCART which comes with the European nEUtered TRV320E camcorder is Out-only.

  • How can i change analog waves into digital waves?

we had labview lab last week.. were doing fine if we have instructions unfortunately the professor will give us an exercise regarding baseband signals spectra.. were trying to download a trial software but we dont have any luck. the question asks for us to change analog waves into digital waves, measure the amplitude of the 5-th harmonic using spectrum analyzer.. i hope you can help me thnx..

After you are successful getting LabVIEW on your computer, put together something to at least show us you're up for learning.  Then we can guide you to a solution that you've developed (mostly) on your own.

  • How do I use the counter and digital signals of the 6071E while it is connected to SCXI modules?

I am contemplating using a PCI 6071E with SCXI. We have the boards (6071E), we would need the cable (I suppose SH1006868) and the SCXI system. I would like to know how would you access the counter and digital line capabilities of the board. I will be using a SCXI-1314 with a SCXI-1520 Module for strain measurements but will need to use the counter and digital lines of the board as well. Can this be done? If so, how and/or what else do I need?

I think this KnowledgeBase will answer the question for you.

  • How to convert old VHS tapes to digital

I am hoping someone can give me an overview of what kind of equipment/software is necessary to convert VHS tapes into a digital format that could be saved in iMovie. Do I just need the right cables for the VCR or something more complicated? Thanks!

I recommend that you download the free iMovie HD6 for those with iMovie 08 who do not have a prior version of iMovie HD6. You can get it here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
    And, do this tutorial: http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/tutorial/
It is more capable of creative editing and you have a quite a bit more control over your iMovie with it.
+So, your method worked using just a VCR, a camcorder, and your computer? No special converters?+
Yes, I just used the AV connectors that came with my camcorder to hook the camcorder to the VCR....which was in a combo TV/VCR unit so I could see the footage on my tv, just to make it easier. The AV connector cable has a special prong that fits into the camcorder, and those white/red/yellow prongs at the VCR end. The TV/VCR is a few years old, certainly not anything fancy or new.
I didn't bother with a converter since I just used the camcorder.
My computer and that VCR are not physically close enough to try to import directly, and since I wanted the digital tapes of the original footage, recording first to the miniDV tapes worked for me. Canopus makes a couple of nice converters...they are around $150-250, I think.
Then, to connect to the computer with the camcorder you will need a 4-6 pin Firewire cable.
+I might do it sooner or I might put it off for awhile while I practice messing around with iMovie.+
The benefit of recording from VHS to miniDV tapes is that the tapes are digital, they store easily and the footage will not degrade before you get around to creating your iMovies and DVDs. iMovies can take up lots of drive space, so don't be thinking that you will just import them all and save them for editing later. You would need a huge amount of space for this. Most of my movies are just under 2 hours, and occupy between 25-40 GB each. A couple of my movies were well over 100-140GB!!!! Yes, that is correct. I have a couple of external drives that I use for my movies while I am creating them. I usually have about two or three that I am working on at the same time.
+We want to put them in a digital format that will be easier to store and play and safer from eroding over time, so I guess the end format I'm looking for is DVDs.+
Because DVDs can break/crack/warp/melt/etc, you should consider exporting your finished iMovies back to the camcorder so that you have the miniDV tapes for more permanent storage and as a backup to your DVDs.
That is one of the big reasons that I don't use iMovie 08---it does not permit exporting back to a camcorder.
Although I do not save my created iMovies on my computer after I have made the DVD and exported the edited movie back to tape, I do save all my iDVD projects as disk images. A disk image can be up to 4.7 GB--even my large movies were automatically compressed down when put into iDVD. The limitation in iDVD is the total length of the movie in TIME, not SIZE. I use single-layer DVDs, which can hold up to 2 hours of content. Creating disk images allows you to have an exact copy of your iDVD projects, self-contained so that you can delete the original iMovies and the original iDVD projects. You can use the disk image to burn your disks when you first create them, and any time in the future. It is a good backup for the entire DVD.
Enjoy being creative with your movie projects! Post back with any more questions, and feel free to email me if you want.

  • Scb-68 and PCI-8331 what is converting my analog sgnal into digital%3F

Long ago, around 7 years ago, I worked on a project in which I interface photodetector to my computer through SCB-68 kit. The SCB-68 kit was connected to computer using PCI-8331 card.
Now, my input was analog signal from photodetector but at programming interface I was getting digital values for computation. Now my confusion about the conversion task done by which part of this connection?
SCB-68 was converting the input signal and supplying digital output? or PCI-8331 was doing digitization before delivering information to computer? or labview itself was doing it after getting signal from PCI-8331?
    can anyone please clear me?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The scb-68 is just a dumb terminal block. The pci-8331 is http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13179 and does not connect to photodetectors so your memory is flawed about the part number. An actual DAQ card would have done the conversion.

  • Convert a rpm waveform to digital/analog tach signal. Sound & Vibration

    Hello,
my question is: How to convert  a rpm waveform to
digital/analog tach signal for use with SV application?
Or is it possible to modify the SV - VIs for the use of
a rpm waveform or a speed signal?
Thanks a lot for coming answers.
    Thomas Nuding

Typically an RPM waveform is the analog view of a tachometer, such as a proximity probe over a key or keyway, or an index pulse from an electric motor.  In most rotor dynamics applications, the phase of the tachometer waveform is compared to the phase of other waveforms, such as vibration, to determine the angular position of the shaft when the other waveform occurs.
The sound and vibration tools have a function for calculating RPM from an analog tachometer waveform.  The order analysis toolset go further to add a counter as an tachometer input.  The OAT tools also allow for selection of rising edge or falling edge and voltage level for the "trigger".  A time instance is recorded when the edge occurs.  This time instance is used for phase measurements and for resampling the other waveforms into the angular domain, ie. 360 measurements per revolution.

  • Can we design analog to digital signal conversion block diagram (ADC) in labview

hi every one,i've doubt i.e can we convert function generator output (i.e analog signals) to digital signal in labview......can anyone help me how to create ADC circuit that means ADC Block Diagram in LABVIEW.....please give me solutions for my problem

    Hi guru,
from signal generation VIs you get arrays containing float values (aka DBL). Those floats are just digital values made of 0s and 1s…
Any value in your computer is digital!
To provide a solution you need to rephrase your question! What exactly do you expect as result of your operation?

i tried the coversion of a sine wave to digital signal, ofcourse it doesnt work on converting wav file to a digital signal. i am also new in labview. i tried to explore it but there are many functions that i can't use.
so my these are my questions.
    1) is a .wav file is an analog signal?
    2) can i convert it without using any DAQ device?

.WAV is a digital "signal". It uses Pulse Code Modulation to encode analog signal. You don't need a DAQ device to "convert" it to analog. Any computer with a sound card, and media player can "convert" a .wav file to the analog audio signal it represents

  • How to import an analog video to Photoshop Extended Cs5?

I'm a beginner, I'm trying to restore an analog video from a vhs tapes.  I'm using Adobe Premiere Cs5, and would like to know what format to convert an analog video to import it into photoshop.
    Gerald Sr.

I'm not sure that I really understand the question
If you have Premiere Pro for video editing, why are you trying to import a video file into Photoshop?
To convert VHS analog to computer digital you need to have a Firewire port in your computer, and use a digitizing device such as from http://www.grassvalley.com/products/converters
That will create DV AVI video which you edit in Premiere Pro

  • Plotting boolean digital signals over postion (angle degrees) not over time

    Hello all,
I would like to plot two boolean signals over position (angle degrees) and not over time. Any pointers on how to do this? The two digital signals are coming from a VI on my FPGA code (running cRIO - 9014), and the location in degrees is also generated by the same VI on my FPGA code.
I tried to use "Boolean Array to Digital.vi" and a "Digital Waveform Graph", but it will only plot my 2 digital signals over time and I need to plot it over position. I took that vi from example "Digital Waveform DT Graph Demo".
Another issue with plotting it against time is the sampling rate. I'm plotting cam and crank signals over engine position (crank angle degrees), how do I plot these signals in position intervals of 720 degrees. Could I tweak the sampling somehow that I would be able to see stills of these intervals? The position date is continously running from 0 to 720, when it reaches 720 it starts again in 0.
    Thanks!

You'd have to use an XY graph so you can define your own x-axis, in your case it would be degrees.

FYI - If your flowmeter pulsing frequency is higher than 500Hz then you won't get reliable reading using your algorithm, and it will be very unreliable above 1kHz because fastest that loop runs is 1mS (1kHz).  In that case you could tie the timed loop  to a higher rate (hardware) clock source to go faster than 1mSec loop time.  If no hardware then I think you can use high resolution timer (in LV2014, not sure if it was also available in previous version) and a regular while loop with algorithm modification for a faster timing.
