How to convert AIFF files to AAC

When I import tracks from a CD they appear as AIFF files which are rather large. How do I convert them to smaller AAC format files to load onto my iPod?
My last version of iTunes had an option of what file type to import the files but this seems to have disapeared on Vs 8.2.1.

Hello John Cellario,
You can change the import settings by going to the iTunes drop down menu and choose Preferences When the window pops up, you should be under the General tab. Towards the middle should a button labeled "Import Settings." Go ahead and click that. From there, you should be able to choose "Import Using AAC" and then whatever setting you wish to set it at underneath that.
As to the songs that are already encoded as AIFF, you should be able to control->click on them and choose the option to convert to AAC.
Hope this helps.

  • How do you convert aiff files to aac and keep them organized in new folders

I have spent several hours trying to figure out how to convert my thousands of aiff files to aac files.  I want to keept the originals and have the new aac files created and then stored in a file system identical but separate to the one that stores the aiff files.  Will itunes do this or is there another program that will?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

You can override iTunes' preferences setting to keep your music organized, but then it is off for everything you do.  If you have this preference set then iTunes keeps your music organized the way it wants to.
I suppose another way would be to use a third party converter such as Max or XLD to convert the files to AAC separately. I then believe if you drag the files to iTunes while holding down the option key (not 100% sure if that's the key combination) it will not copy them to the iTunes folder but leave them where you have them.  If you have iTunes set to organize your music and do the conversion inside of iTunes it will want to have its way.

  • How to convert .MP3 files into .AAC with iTunes 10.5.2

Im running a Mac OS X 10.5.8, and my iTunes version is 10.5.2.
I want to convert .MP3 files into .AAC using iTunes, but no option is given for me. What should I do?

im not going to change all my songs into AAC, I was experiementing around with making ringtones for my iphone. I can open a song in Garageband, and export it as an AAC file to my itunes, but it is very annoying. I remember older versions of itunes having a "Convert to AAC" option, but i can't find it anymore on this current version of itunes.
Basically, I want to convert a couple songs into AAC to create ringtones out of them.

  • How to convert AIFF files to Lossless on a PC

Is there a simple way to convert the songs already stored in iTunes on my PC without having to "create Lossless version", make a copy and then delete the AIFF file? Using iTunes 9, have already changed the preference to Lossless, can't find a way to "convert". Thank you.
    Message was edited by: s-cone

Actually i just figured out a work around of sorts. Highlight several songs > create lossless version > after the lossless versions are created, the original AIFF are still highlighted and can easily be deleted, leaving the Lossless versions on iTunes and all the AIFF are in the recycle bin. Thanks for your help.

Filling in the Album Artist will fix things most of the time, though if you also have an older iPod then you might find the album splits up again on your device. For more information see my article on Grouping tracks into albums.

  • Want to convert .aiff files (8 cds) to .aac format without duplicating

I ripped an 8=cd set to .aiff and added these to my iTunes library, but forgot how large it is on my iPad. Is there a way to create a "mirror" of the 8 cd set in .aac format? If I convert tunes per cd, I end up with duplicates in that folder (1., 1., 2., 2.). I'd ideally like one .aiff version of the set and one in .aac. I'd relabel them accordingly, and also sync accordingly.
If that's too hard I would be happy with just substittuting the .aiff files with .aac ones. Not sure that is possible.
I imagine I could copy the files to an x-drive, delete what i have in the iTunes folder, and then reimport as .aac. Perhaps that's easiest?
    Thanks.

Not what I prefer to do. Ideally it would be to have one version of the 8 cds in AIFF and another labelled differently and in AAC.
The best I have found is here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/8258383#8258383, ie to use smart playlists, convert everything to aac, keep both sets, but restrict which ones go onto the ipad (AAC there, not AIFF).
This is ok, but messy in one way: my music library shows one CD with duplicates of each track, each in a diff. sample rate. So, playing them via iTunes becomes more complicated. Not happy with this solution.
I don't have the original cds here at the office, only the files in AIFF. There seems to be no good way to import the files AS aac; when you add them, they come out in aiff.
THere must be a way so that you can listen to either format as you like all from one library.

  • How to converting WMV files?

How to converting WMV files from PC to iPod playable files? thanks for all your help

I just found this tip on allexperts.com...
I'm on a windows box at work, so I cant verify the accuracy.
I have one at home...name escapes me right now...icon is a blue square with 5 black dots (like on a die). It converts audio formats, video formats, extracts audio from video, and will batch process.
Maybe someone will recognize the desciption and be able to name it.

    heres one on apples site:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/switchfileformatconverterformac.html
    =======
Tunes will convert wma to mp3 (or acc) format. Here are the instructions:
To convert a song's file format:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Advanced button at the top of the window and click Importing.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3, Convert Selection to AAC, Convert Selection to Apple Lossless, Convert Selection to AIFF, or Convert Selection to WAV. (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.)
To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk containing the songs you want to convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except songs you purchased from the iTunes Store. (Purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)

  • How to convert .caf files to WAV, MP3, WMA etc

I use QuickVoice free app on my ipad2 to record memos. I’ve just found out how to convert the files and play them on my Windows computer. First I used this program call QuickVoice Sync to copy my recording on my computer, used this link:
    www.nFinityInc.com/QuickVoiceSyncWin.exe   - for Windows
    www.nFinityInc.com/QuickVoiceSyncMac.zip   - for Mac users
to download QuickVoice Sync onto your computer. Open the program up and it firsts asks you to backup your files, which I did through iTunes and iCloud just incase. Then I clicked import, the program then searched for my recording and copy them into a new folder in my documents called QuickVoice. My recording in the folder were .caf files which I couldn't open in Windows so I used a program called Audacity. Use this link to download:
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
I downloaded the program and opened up one of my .caf files my clicking 'file', then 'open' in Audacity. When the files was opened I clicked 'file' again then clicked 'export' to convert my .caf file to WAV file for example. You can change the type of file my scrolling through the different types of files available by clicking the box next to 'save as type', I chose 'WAV (Microsoft) 16bit PCM' then click save. You can also change where you save the file by clicking another location before you click 'save'.
I can now play these files in Windows Media Player on my computer or playing them in my QuickVoice app on my ipad2.
Hope this helps, if there are any questions please ask and I will try to answer the best I can. I figured this out myself and I’m not a big pro in computers so I will do my best to answer any quires.

  • Pocket Playlist- how to convert mp4 file to use on pocket playlist

I have an mp4 video that i would like to use on my pocket playlist, but not sure how to convert the file?

    Hello Andy,
I do not have an HP Pocket drive but according to the manual...
The pocket acts as any other drive to store files on. Its the media player that you use that has to support the type of file you are playing.
This is cut from the manual.
"File types supported by HP Pocket PlaylistYour playback device may not support all of the following formats. If your playback device does not support a format, use the ArcSoft MediaConverter 7 computer application to convert (transcode) the files into a format that will play back on your mobile device.
HP Pocket Playlist supports the following file formats:
Video: .avi, .3gp, .flv, .m4v, .m4p, .mov, mp4, .mpeg, .mpeg2, .mpg, .ogg, .qt, .ts, .tts, .wmv
Music: .aac, .ac3, .adts, asf, .lpcm, .m4a, .mp3, wav, wma
Photo: .bmp, .gif, .jpeg, .png, .tiff, .tif
You need to import files with the "Arcsoft Media Converter" which will convert the format for you.
Here are the links to all the info for HP Pocket Drives.

    Thank you

So it seems from reading the COMMAND manual that my first issue is that I used a 16GB SD card, and the manual says it will only recogize up to a 2GB SD card. I did use my MB Air's SD card slot and crated a folder and dragged the music files to it, then to the card. So I am going to get a 2GB card and try that next. Otherwise just stick with the iPOD connected. At least that is 8GB

How to convert jpeg files into Word

    Hi Eugene,
I don't think you can convert an image to a Word document, but you could place the JPEG into a Word document using the Insert > Object command in Word.
For other questions relating to Word, you will probably have more luck getting an answer if you post on the Microsoft forums (we can help if you're using Acrobat, or another Adobe product, but you'll find the Word experts on the Microsoft forums.)
