How to convert an IMAP account to POP?

I have an existing Gmail IMAP account that has long been registered with TB as IMAP.
I am not happy with the workings of IMAP and want to change (back) to POP3 - preferably without losing my TB folders and messages.
GMAIL gives instructions on how to change server settings at its end, but what it describes for the corresponding TB setting seems to apply only when creating a NEW account in TB.
So can I change my TB settings for the existing Gmail account to have a POP3-type server? If so, how?

Converting Mac Mail Accounts from POP to IMAP?

I'm just discovering IMAP for keeping my email synced. Is it possible to convert my 5 Mac Mail accounts from POP to IMAP or do I really have to start 5 new accounts & then deal with importing all that email to the new ones somehow? I've tried experimenting with changing the incoming mail server manually form pop.gmail.com to imap.gmail.com to no avail. Any suggestions/instructs are appreciated. Also, seems that, at least for gmail, the recommended Apple Mail client pref settings aren't current with Mail 3.5. Any guide to where mailbox behaviors should be set to work correctly for gmail & other mail servers (I'm using gmail, comcast, godddy and a private mail server) would be great!

first you have to make sure that the email providers for those accounts offer IMAP. if they don't you can't do anything. gmail does as you mentioned but most email providers only offer one type of access. if an email provider supports IMAP then you have to create a new account for IMAP for the email address. there is no way to change the type of an existing account. once you do set it up it will sync with the server so if your mail was kept on server (that's the default for gmail POP I think) you don't have to do anything. It will sync automatically. If you remove POP mail from server (default for most POP providers) then you'll have to move your messages from the existing local POP mailbox to the imap mailbox. It will sync with the server and upload all those emails back to the server. That might take a long time and a lot of bandwidth if you have a lot of stuff so it's up to you if you want to do this. You can simply move that mail to a local mailbox in "on my mac" section. after your imap account is set and has all the mail you need, you can delete the POP account.

What should I do to create an ordinary IMAP account with N97 S60 mail application? It used to be easy, but now the account setup is some kind of automated process - optimized for Ovi Mail, Gmail and such services. My email account surname is not my email address ([email protected] type) but something like "fisurnam". The result is that I give my password in vain, no connection established.
What should I do to create the account? It is also not clear, am I giving my password to Nokia service or is it going directly to the email account provider. This is an important thing as my work email password may not be given to anyone, not even to Nokia.

How to convert my aol account to an existing apple id account?

Since Apple has informed me that I need to switch my AOL account sign in to the iTunes store to a Apple Id, I am in need of converting it to an existing Apple Id, but the process does not have an option to convert to an existing Apple Id.
Checking with the community to see if anyone else has had to do this and how it can be done.

This actually appears to be a legit Apple emailing. I have family members who have received the same and have been researching it for them.
I believe this goes waaaay way back to earlier days of the iTunes rollout when, if memory serves, an authentic AOL Username could be used as an Apple ID. Since then, it has become common (required?) that an Apple ID is an authentic "email address". The difference between a Username and an email address being the "@aol.com" designator.
It appears that Apple (and AOL) are requiring anyone that has or had an iTunes account using an AOL "Username only" Apple ID (without the @aol.com email designator) to update their Apple ID. I believe it to be as simple as designating an authentic "email address" as your new Apple ID.
If you already use an email address as your Apple ID, i.e. [email protected], then I believe there is nothing further you need to do.
If I am incorrect here, I'm sure someone will speak up and let us know.

I had things set up that way and it worked fine. However, last week on my iPhone, my bellsouth.com account kept coming up with "the POP server is not responding," but the account worked on my Macs and my iPad. I deleted the account and added it again. Now it seems to be an IMAP account (the POP server still does not respond). When I access the "advanced" tap in the setings, when I click "Deleted Mailbox" under "Mailbox Behaviors" it appears to show an option to leave mail in the server inbox but the word "Inbox" is in grey and not clickable. Has ATT changed its servers?

We are starting the final implementation year of a 1:1 student device rollout in my school district. I know that at the end of this next school year we are going to be offering the departing 8th graders the option to purchase their MacBook. Due to that, I am starting to look into what it will take to remove everything district related from the device. One major stumbling block I have run into is how to convert their user account. I know I can uninstall the Kanaka plugin, and that uninstall seems to go fine. However, the account is still listed as "Managed, Mobile" in the Users & Groups" System Preferences pane. So, how can I go about changing this account to a "regular" account so that they can keep all of their data and settings?

How to convert/move Mail POP accounts *with folders/subfolders* to Gmail for Business?

I currently have several email addresses for my two domains, an Earthlink account (which I will phase out eventually) and a couple of Gmail accounts. They are all POP accounts.
I would like to convert to Gmail for Business, but I can't figure out how to migrate 10s of 1000s of emails that are housed in 200+ folders and subfolders from Mail to Gmail for Business.
The mail migration tools out there don't seem to cover Mac Mail.
Has anyone out there done this?

Add the new account to Mail. One at a Time copy each folder from the POP account to the Google IMAP account, do not copy more than a few hundred emails at a time, they have to be uploaded to the IMAP server, uploads are slow, it takes a while and tends to fail if there are too many.
Repeat until complete
PS: not just your dull life, the dull lives of everyone who sends an email to you as well, wonder how they would think about that (if you told them)

HT1277 I am trying to setup a new email account. Apple Mail is trying to configure it as an iMAP account but it is actually a POP account. I cannot figure out how to override that. What do I need to do?

Once Mail sets it up as an iMAP account it doesn't work. I cannot figure out how to override the automatic setup and manually configure it as a POP account.

I'm not sure why you would want POP over IMAP. When IMAP is so much more versatile.

Anyways if it works like 10.7 Mail. When adding the account trick it. Do this by just entering some fake email address and password into the boxes and click continue. It will then say it could not find the correct settings, click continue. Now you will be given the option to enter everything manually.
Now you can choose POP and manually enter the POP and SMTP settings for Yahoo. Which I believe are pop.mail.yahoo.com, Port 995, SSL and smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465, SSL, authentication required. Enter your correct email address now.
Once added go back to your accounts list and edit it to make sure that it now lists your correct yahoo address and not the fake address in all areas.
Note: Be sure when entering the fake email address to not use a major provider it likely knows. So don't choose @gmail, @hotmail, &c instead use something like @weevilfarts.com.

We cannot move an existing POP3 account directly to an IMAP account. To do this, you should first remove your current POP3 account, then add your IMAP account into Outlook client. After this, transfer your current mails, which you downloaded
via POP3 to your IMAP account.
You should contact your email service provider for the correct IMAP account settings.
To transfer your data, simply select the messages or folders in the existing .pst file, then drag and drop them into your current IMAP account.
