How to convert Dreamweaver site to wordpress

I created a website in Dreamweaver for a client, but they want the capability to edit the site t hemselves.  Is there an easy way to convert this html site to something that will work in wordpress? Are there any other sites that can do this? Help! I don't want to re-design this whole site that took me 3 months!

Sorry.  But there is no automagic way to convert a static HTML site over to WordPress.  Your customer should have told you upfront that he/she wanted a CMS.
You could install WordPress as a blog (domain.com/blog/WP/).  The blog would be editable by your client in WordPress but the main site would be remain static HTML.
Another option is to reverse engineer your static HTML pages to work with another CMS product.
Cushy CMS might be all you need (watch their video to see how it works).

  • How to work with an EXISTING wordpress site in side DW CS5 (yahoo hosted)

    Have and existing  Wordpress site that is hosted by Yahoo.  Recently upgraded to  Dreamweaver CS5. Was really excited about working with my Wordpress  files inside of DW CS5 with all of it's new capabilities, bells and  wistles.  I can't seem to get it set up right.
    Is Dreamweaver CS5 ABLE to display existing wordpress sites with dynamic content? And can anyone please help me figure out how.
    I have been thru several lynda.com video tutorials including:
    Dreamweaver CS5 and Wordpress 3 by Joseph Lowery (over the last month)
    Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP and MySQL by David Gassner (over the last month)
    PHP with MySQL essetial training by Kevin Skoglund (about a year ago when trying to learn php)
    Self-hosting a Wordpress site (about a year ago when I set up the site)
    I have also been scouring this forum and the web trying to find the answer to what seems to be a very common problem.
    Using Mac OSX 10.6.6
    MAMP
    Dreamweaver CS5
    Wordpress 3
    Yahoo web hosting
    Everything works fine with the exercise files but as soon as I try my existing site files it gives me one of several errors
         cannot establish a connection to the database
    I set up my site thur the DW site manager with the
    Local Site Folder set to: /applications/MAMP/htdocs/nate
    server set to:
    name: testing
    connection using: local/network
    server folder:  /applications/MAMP/htdocs/nate
    web url: http://localhost/nate
    under the advanced tab i have set the server model to: php mysql
    and have the testing box checked in the site set up dialog box
    I also set a remote server:
    name: remote
    connect using: ftp
    ftp address: ftp.MY_SITE_NAME.com
    username: myusername@MY_SITE_NAME.com
    password:  mypassword
    under the advanced tab i have the server model set to: php mysql
    and have the remote box checked in the site set up dialog box
    when tested connection was made.  I also downloaded all of my site files using this connections (it took hours).
    I installed MAMP and set the ports to the defauls (80, 3306) host: localhost username: root password: root
    If i change the database settings in the wordpress wp-config.php file  to: localhost, root, root it works and displays my page as I would  expect in live view or browser but without the main content area or  posts - displays a 404 error where the content should beI have exported my wp database and imported back into my local testing server thru phpmyadmin.
    I have also gotten this error at various tries in the set ups: "dynamically-related files could not be resolved because of an internal server error"
    I am currently getting this error: "Dynamically related files could not be resolved because the site definition is not correct for this server"
    It is not asking me if I want to save files to the server when I hit live view.
    Everything  works fine with the lynda.com exercise files and with the generic wordpress files.  I can open any page -  live view or view in browser  - can access and modify the imported  database thur dreamweaver and phpmyadmin. I am only having these problems with my existing site files. I have done the complete set up at least 5 times from scratch going thru the videos and various tutorials step by step.  I dont want to use the starter files that come with wordpress installations I want to use my highly modified pages/themes/database

    DW does not work with a WP installation that has anything other than the default (numeric) permalinks. Apparently no-one ever tested this case during the development and prerelease phase, which is a shame, because very few WP installations use default permalinks. It's a point that Joseph Lowery doesn't touch in his tutorial, and of course the tutorial WP installation works perfectly.
    Hope that helps, although it may disappoint (as it did me, and a lot of other folks). Here's hoping this is addressed in a dot release.

  • How do I properly install my Muse site into Wordpress?

    Hello all,
    Just to be clear; I am not a professional web designer nor do I pretend to be one. I am helping a small business by making their website. I decided to use Muse as I am familiar with Indesign and Photoshop so this seemed like the way to go. I also need a CMS for the site so decided to use Wordpress.
    So I'm searching the web for answers to my question yet still not able to find a decent answer to this:
    How do I install my Muse site in Wordpress (thus using Wordpress as CMS)?
    I already know that Wordpress uses .php and Muse is .html and found ways to convert this (using Bridge for example). Is that the way to go or do I really need to do some serious programming? If someone has a video tutorial that would be great!
    Thanks!

    With no true “Blogging” capability built directly into Adobe Muse, users must find an alternative way to mimic this functionality.  By using embedded HTML and the free Blog provider Nabble (www.nabble.com) this tutorial will explain how to include a fully featured blog in your website without writing any code.
    Here's a sample blog that I built in a few minutes as a demonstration:
    http://mtsampleblog.businesscatalyst.com/index.html
    Why aren’t blogs available right now in Adobe Muse?
    Although services like Tumblr and Wordpress simplify blogs greatly, the truth is they are fairly complex to code from scratch and often require complicated backend systems (servers with databases).  Think of all the functionality a typical blog includes - commenting, login systems, archiving, searching - those aren’t features that can be easily achieved with simple HTML / CSS.
    While I certainly can’t speak for Adobe, I can say that for a blog “widget” to simply exist in Muse you wouldn’t be able to host a site on any server, with any configuration. The same is true for the “Forms” widget in Muse - for a form to work, you must host with Adobe’s Business Catalyst. This isn’t because Adobe wants to force you to host your site on their servers; it’s because that’s the only place where they can control the backend setup and build a widget that will consistently work every single time.
    Remember the days of cross-browser bug fixing (before Muse saved us), well just imagine doing that for every hosting server in the world.  But I digress…
    Similar to browsers, there are many different types of hosting servers and configurations
    Image from: http://www.seo4q.com/2012/02/several-types-of-websites.html
    About Nabble
    I like Nabble as a blogging solution for a few simple reasons:
    1. It’s really easy to use, quite powerful, and best of all... free.
    2. Once your site is embedded in Muse, you won’t need to edit your Muse file to make updates.  You will simply login to the Nabble website, post updates (and even change the appearance) and your changes will be reflected immediately on your Muse website.
    3. You have just enough control over the look & feel to integrate it seamlessly into your website, but without advanced features that might be overwhelming.
    4. It contains the core functionality most bloggers look for - searching, archiving, RSS feeds, commenting, etc.

  • Converting Business Catalyst Site to Either a php include site, or wordpress cms

    I have a relatively simple for a client that was developed using business catalyst. I orginally was hoping to move the site to our sever, but have since found out that you must use adobe to host your site when using muse as a development enviornment. I would like to host this site on my server and the most viable option I can see would be to convert the site to either wordpress or a php include site.
    Can anyone help me with converting this site are there any tutorials or resouces that focus on migrating your catalyst site to another cms or server? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    If it was built in muse it must be a simple enough site that you can just rebuild it in not much time.
    If you're doing it in php i suggest using Twig for templating.

  • How to convert a Muse (HTML) Site in xml code

    Is there a way to export Muse into a xml site or take the HTML files and convert it to xml. Currently, we have a developer taking the hosted site and converting it into a Wordpress site, which we will then have an xml to send to clients (who will embed the site onto their current site). Is there a better way to do this?

    Hi,
    Currently Adobe Muse does not allow to save your site in xml format. I will leave this thread open for any suggestion for converting html into xml.

  • I just upgraded Dreamweaver CS5 to CC - sites did not migrate - how to get my sites back?

    I just upgraded Dreamweaver CS5 to CC - sites did not migrate - how to get my sites back?
    (I'd rather not recreate them all from scratch)
    PS - Go easy on me - it's my first post in this forum .
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Seems to be different results for different people.
    My sites have usually migrated automatically whenever I have upgraded. Others report the same outcome as you.
    I've never traced the reasons for non-migration to a single root cause.

  • Converting my site into my wordpress site for my blog

    Hi I'm having a lot of trouble converting my site www.dor2dor.com into a wordpress site so I can use it as my blog. To be honest I haven't got a clue what i'm doing here as I don't use wordpress.
    If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

    If you really want to transfer everything to WordPress, you will have to create new Pages (as opposed to new Posts) and transfer your copy and images from the current site to each of the corresponding WordPress Pages you create. Having taken a quick look at your website, however, why not keep your current set up? A much less time consuming solution is to make the blog link much more prominent throughout the current site. As it is now, it's buried at the end About Us.

  • How to include Aperture web gallery in dreamweaver site

    With the demise of mobile me I need to find a way to keep my personal website photo albums (web galleries) that I currently publish via Aperture web gallery and then use a hyperlink from my Dreamweaver web site. This means visitors can view the photo's from a link button but the actual images they see are Aperture Web Galleries. This method has worked for me for a while now.
    I know you can save a complete web gallery from Aperture onto a local drive rather than upload to mobile me. Does anyone know a beginners (ie me) guide to include that Aperture web gallery directly into a Dreamweaver site?. It feels like it should be possible but can't find any help.
    thanks in advance.
    Peter B.

    Hello Peter,
    What I do, to link my Aperture galleries to my iWeb pages, is to export the galleries from Aerture to my disk and then to upload them using ftp to a folder at my web hostings service. Then I link the iWeb pages to the gallery using link button or string. I use the free FTP program CyberDuck http://cyberduck.softonic.de/mac to copy the gallery using ftp. If your web hosting service allows ftp transfer, you could do the same. CyberDuck is really a smart little tool, but any program that allows ftp transfer would suffice.

  • A question regarding using a Dreamweaver site to manage a WordPress site?

    Using Mac OS X I have installed and configured MAMP to edit a WordPress site.
    I have setup a DW CC site to help with this editing, and all files are behaving as expected.
    I would now like to take this to the next level.
    As I develop the site plan for the future, I am unsure of the local folder structure I need to use if I want to use the capability of the SQL database to manage logins and landing pages.
    In other words, do I put the root folders for other html sites in the same root directory level as the WordPress folder?
    Can I then (with some individual tweaking of php files and the database(s), use this organization method to author a number of standalone sites with unique logins?
    I hope this question is not too vague.
    Thanks

    Sounds to me you want to use the multi-site option in Wordpress. That way you can setup a network of (related or unrelated) sites in Wordpress, and assign different logins, themes, and so on, to each site as well.
    Study the official documentation before you begin:
    Create A Network « WordPress Codex
    In this case you should stay away from any manual mysql tinkering - no need for that with multisites in Wordpress. Of course, you can still use DW to edit the theme files, if you so wish.
    For more multisite user control, check out plugins like:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/7-plugins-for-easier-wordpress-multisite-user-management/
    If you need ultimate control over user management, payment options, and so on, you may want to install S2 User Management (but it is a complex one to learn).

    something like this will convert string to byte[]
    e.g.
    you want to convert following.
    656667 => ABC
    String toConvert = "656667";
    byte[] returnVal = String2byteArr (toConvert );
    String FinalStr = new String(returnVal);
    public static byte[] String2byteArr(String Result)
    byte[] byteRet = new byte[Result.length()/2];
    int k=0;
    for (int j=0; j<(Result.length()); j+=2)
    try
    Integer I = new Integer (0);
    I = I.decode ("0x"+Result.substring(j, j+2));
    int i = I.intValue ();
    if (i > 127)
    i = i - 256;
    byteRet[k++] = new Integer(i).byteValue();
    catch(Exception e)
    System.err.println(e);
    return byteRet;
    }// String2byteArr

  • How to converting WMV files?

    How to converting WMV files from PC to iPod playable files? thanks for all your help

    I just found this tip on allexperts.com...
    I'm on a windows box at work, so I cant verify the accuracy.
    I have one at home...name escapes me right now...icon is a blue square with 5 black dots (like on a die). It converts audio formats, video formats, extracts audio from video, and will batch process.
    Maybe someone will recognize the desciption and be able to name it.
    =======
    heres one on apples site:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/switchfileformatconverterformac.html
    =======
    Tunes will convert wma to mp3 (or acc) format. Here are the instructions:
    To convert a song's file format:
    Choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Advanced button at the top of the window and click Importing.
    From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
    Select one or more songs in your library, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3, Convert Selection to AAC, Convert Selection to Apple Lossless, Convert Selection to AIFF, or Convert Selection to WAV. (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.)
    To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key and choose Advanced > "Convert Selection to," then choose the folder or disk containing the songs you want to convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except songs you purchased from the iTunes Store. (Purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)
