How to convert movies to ipad

I have the latest ipad and I'm trying to watch movies on it. The problem is that itunes doesn't read most files. Only AAC3 or MP4. How do I convert other movie files to itunes so I can then watch with Ipad?

If these movies are not copy-protected, try the freeware Handbrake. It can convert movies to a format suitable for iTunes and the iPad; in fact there are presets for the iPad.

If you convert an HD movie which is 1,920×1,080 to iPad resolution it will be ~2730x1536 which will not horizontally fit on the iPad screen.
Learn to like the back space at the top & bottom.

Are you going to give us any additional clues as to what you are really asking here?
1) The "HT5409" in your subject title reference implies you are dealing with AVCHD content. If true, then how did you transfer them to your iPad and how did you transfer them from your iPad to your your MacBook Air platform? As the HT409 topic clearly stated, this can be very important. In addition, how are the files stored? For instance , have you extracted the MPEG-4 AVC content as transport streams or is the content still in the device recorded file form? Are you trying to edit the content or convert it to M4V, MP4, or MOV files directly?
2) The "can i convert movies from iPad to mac laptop" part of your subject title is confusing. Yes, AVCHD files can be converted to simpler MPEG-4 AVC content that is compatible with all current and most older Mac computers and Apple mobile devices in MOV, MP4, and/or M4V file formats. However, how you do this will depend on the current form of the data and the target settings you wish to employ to ensure compatibility with the various target device possibilities. Further, non-AVCHD content (e.g., HD iPad video recordings) can also be downconverted to simpler settings in a similar manner if needed or required if that is your questing.
3) Depending on your operating system, both AVCHD and MPEG-4 AVC content should already be compatible with QT X v10.2 and v10.3 players if properly transferred to your laptop from the recording device. And, even if improperly transferred, may still be converted to useable/compatible formats as long as the file itself has not been corrupted by your, as yet, unspecified workflow.
4) What does "will not play on my mac air laptop with quicktime installed" mean here? Are you trying to play an AVCHD movie in the QT 7 player or one of the QT X players? If the latter, which one? Are you getting any error message? If so, what are they? If not playing in your main user account on the computer, does it play useing a different account? Do the files play in other, third-party multimedia players?

How does one copy movies which appear in the Videos App to a computer? The article linked in Diavonex's post only describes how to copy videos and photos which appear in the Photos App. I have movies on the iPad (visible only in the Videos App) which I synced from another computer and I can not sync them back to iTunes on my current computer. If I try to turn on the Movie sync, it will erase those movies on the iPad and copy the ones on my computer to the iPad. Hello,
I just caught a short 30 second clip of my son crawling for the first time with my Canon camera. I want to send the video to my Mom via email however the file is too big. Her computer does not play mp4, which is the only conversion option I found, and walking her through installing a compatible player is useless. So I would like to find out how to convert the mov file to avi or wmv, small enough to email. I just purchased Premiere Elements 10 and never used it. I could not figure out how to do it, so if anybody knows, that would be great.

Greetings,
I just produced a promo video for a non profit event in imovie. Now they want to include it in a mass e-mail. They are unable to read any of the formats imovie puts out on their silly pc's. Somewhere on a forum I read that Quicktime pro will convert.mov to .wav.... $30 later it turns out it doesn't.....
So, how does one make imovies visible on a common PC, ie using Windows Media Player......

my customer sends me footage, I think he records it with his iphone:
.mov, h264, 1920x1080
He wants to have thin stribes to put them on top of his website:
mpeg4, 800x96
I did turn the video, cropped it and than exported it as mpeg4.
Unfortunaltey the quality of it gets really bad!
Does anyone have an idea, how to convert it without so much loss of quality?

Try increasing the bitrate in your .mp4 encoding.
note:
Increasing bitrate will proportionately increase the resulting file size.

If your Microsoft Outllok is not connected to an Exchange server then Wallace-izm have the right tip. However, I assume that you use Microsoft Outlook with Exchange which is connected to your work email. The best option is to create an Exchange Account on your iPad and any change made in either the PC or your iPad will be synced both ways. But beware that this will consume Data and you should check your data plan beforehand.
Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calenders in your iPad. Now select Add Account... and select Microsoft Exchange from the list. Now you need to insert some information which you can collect from your IT guys or a Tech Savvy colleagues. Once you have set up the account, you can choose which ones you want to sync with - Mail, Contacts, Calenders etc. The first sync will take some time but subsequent Syncs will take much less time.
Now your mails will start coming into your iPad. All your MS Outlook Exchange Contacts will also shown up in your iPad contacts. You can choose how frequently your mails are fetched or you can check mails manually.
