How to convince my dad to let me get an iPhone 4S for Christmas?

So background info:
I'm 14, have straight A's and NOT a spoiled brat. The only technology I own is a crappy tracfone and an iPod 4th gen that I bought myself.
Basically, I asked my dad if I could get an iPhone for Christmas, and he said we'll talk about it. I'm planning on telling him that I'll pay the $20 for the data plan every month, and that I'll but the accessories that I need for it. I just want to know of any pros you guys have that I can tell him that would help me convince him for sure.
Thank you!

there is a feature on it called find my phone. if u have that turned on he can track u with the apple id that is signed in using his smartphone or icloud.com whenever he wants.
if ur willing to pretty much put a tracking chip on urself so to speak, thats a good place to start.
can also mention that it has gps on it and appmaps installed by default so u can always find ur way home or anywhere else for that matter.

  • I am 13 but going into high school next year and possibly an elite boarding school that is 9 hours away from my town. I need to get a mac air for school purposes. How can convince my parents to let me get one?

My house has always had macs and my parents don't like pcs. I don't either. They are slow and so far behind from macs.  So i am going into high schoo next year and parents don't let me on the computer without asking and have them all password protected. I did have my own ibook g4 but it broke randomly. My mom says i will isolate myself from too much scree time and get depressed but i love macs and i would like to work in an apple store someday but i'm not even allowed to buy my own ipod touch with my own money. But my mom has an new imac, ipad and  iphone and ipod and all of this has been gifts to her. But i really need a computer for school. I have written lists of good reasons not like i want it but good ones and asked nicely but my mom just says because and thats the only reason i need to know. and by the way she is a teacher so she thinks technogly is evil. How can i get the mac air??

I really do not want to enter a family discussion about what you should or should not have.  If the MBA is to support your school work then you need to present your arguments on that point.  If there is a concern about using a Mac when the school supports PCs then point out a Mac can also use Windows on a BootCamp partition so it is fully compatible with both systems.

How do i purchase a volume license to get a serial no. for Windows if i have a photoshop CS5 for Mac? And how much does it cost?

Forget that nonsense talk about volume licenses. Or are you saying you need 10 Windows licenses? You simply buy a new version of PS (= new license) or do a platform swap.

You'll have to consider the benefits; is the lack of LTE and the need to send the phone overseas (THus be without a phone for that length of time) really worth the 250$ difference you'd save?
ME personally I'd rather fork over that amount of money and get the quality of phone I purchased, and not have it at half strength.

  • Am I able to use my Dad's upgrade to get the iPhone 5 on AT&T?

First off, I am on the same billing plan as my Dad on AT&T. He has an upgrade available on his line and I do not until sometime next year. He told me I could use his upgrade to get the iPhone 5 this Friday. I know that it is possible for others to use someone else's upgrade to get a new phone but the problem is that I don't know if it will work with the iPhone 5. I have the iPhone 4, which has a MicroSim card, and the iPhone 5 uses a NanoSim card. Would I still be able to activate the phone under my number once I upgrade my Dad's line and receive the phone given the differences of the Sim cards?
    Thanks!
    -Kevin

I have done this on other iphones as recently as a month ago. (I have 13 lines)
You have to order the phone under the upgrade number - but when it shows up in the mail you call them and they switch the phone numbers in their system.  You just need both phones in front of you because you need the SIM card numbers and you have to turn them off and back on.

  • How cna I deactivate multiple CS products and get new activation keys for them?

I need to know how to deactivate all active installs of a given CS product and serial #, then get new activation keys for the same product.  I realize this is a question only an Adobe rep can answer, but online chat is closed and the phone support line is completely useless, so I have to ask here.
    -- Jon W.

you'll need to contact adobe support to reset your activation count for each product if you are unable to do that yourself, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html
you will not get or need a new activation key.  your original one will still work for cs3 and later.

I just moved from a $275 Lenovo Windows 8 laptop to a $3,000 rMBP and both can do email and surf the internet pretty well so it may be a hard sell. At the same time, I've been using a Mac for 28 years (though the last two are my first laptops) so I'm firmly in the "Mac is better" camp.
Since money is not the issue, I wonder if what he figures you plan to do with it is. If you're going to use it for Facebook, Twitter, social media in general, IMHO it's a toy and not much more so one computer 10 times the price of another doesn't make sense. If the big white Apple is a status symbol, that doesn't make sense (I hope) either. But if you can come up with some meaningful purpose (and you know best what that might be to him) for a high priced computer, he might see things differently.

  • TS1398 I just reset my new router name and password and my iPad keeps picking up the old name using the old password. How do I purge the old info and get it to look for the new name?

I installed a new wireless router and connected with my iPad. I then changed the ID and password with ethernet but now my iPad keeps picking up the old router name and password and doesn't see the new name. How can I get it to stop looking for the old name and find the new one?

  • How do I bypass registration info page to get my G5 ready for resale?

After erasing and re-installing orig. OS X I restarted and am asked to fill out registration page info.  I don't want to do this because I am selling it.  Any way to bypass this screen?  Or any other suggestions on how to prepare computer for resale?

No. You shut it down and leave it that way for the next owner.
Here's a rather extensive set of procedures you might have followed:
Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See What to do with iCloud before selling your computer.
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • Will Apple let me exchange my iPhone 6 for the iPhone 6 plus?

I bought my iPhone 6 about a month ago at the Apple Store (unlocked, full price), now I feel like I should've bought the 6 plus instead since I use my phone for watching movies/videos a lot. Does Apple let people exchange phones and just pay the difference? Basically my phone is still new just wish I would've bought the 6 plus???

Sell your 6 and use the proceeds to buy the 6+.

  • How do I convince my parents to let me have my own MacBook?

I'm going into 8th Grade in September and I want my own MacBook so I have a resource whenever I need it because I'm going to be getting a lot more work then I ever have before. Seeing as how my dad is using our only other working (surprisingly) Dell for work whenever he's home, we're always arguing over the computer on who gets to use it. I also just want one so I can jam to my music in my room (after getting a sweet stereo) by myself with the door closed and so I know I can go on the computer whenever I want without having to beg my dad to get off. Now, he does love Macs because he has one at his work, and I almost have him convinced. I just need a final something to convince him and my mom to get me one. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Show him some graphs, those work well on dad's, tell him he won't have to buy a new computer for a long time because the macbook lasts a lot. tell him you'll get better education, and it'll improve your performance. tell him it'll really help, and show him more graphs. and news about mac, the ones in http://www.apple.com/startpage/ are really good for convincing people...
tell him you will become more responsible and thus you'll grow up...

  • Help me convince my dad to choose the ipad over the surface?

    hi,
my dads work wants to get him a tablet. he can choose the microsoft surface or the ipad. he is leaning toward the surface. can you tell me some reasons you like/perfer the ipad over the surface?
    Thanks,
    Austin

Take your dad to best buy and test drive each device. Get the feel and idea of each one.
Honestly, each device has it's own plusses and minuses. the iPad is far more established. You can very certainly have an iTunes account without a credit card, Mine is. I use iTunes gift cards to load it to purchase things I want (largely apps)
If he's going to want a lot of online content and a well established library, then he'll want the iPad. iTunes has spent years building itself up. there are millions of apps (one could argue that a lot of them are junk, but that's a relative term so YMMV on that one)
The surface is new. It is largely untested. But, like Android, if he has the tech know how to tweak or fiddle, then it may be for him. The surface and android devices do have more 'freedom' to them, in that they seem to have less restrictions in what you can do. However that freedom can lead a person to doing something they may not really want to do. And yes, the surface is less than a year old and who knows if it'll be around in a year.
I think if you want a comfortable well established and more controlled environment, the iPad works for that. there will be extra expenses, such as cases and keyboards (my money is on your dad having issues iwth the onscreen keyboard, many older individuals do, so you'll likely need a bluetooth keyboard)
If he wants to get all his content from Apple, then he's fine.
If he wants something different, something more customizable or expandable (the surface can accomodate extending its memory via micro SD cards the iPad's memory cannot be expanded) then maybe he'll want to play with the surface.
You will find less apps with the surface. Obviously it's app store is only a few months old.
Windows 8 is very different. I have it on my laptop and there is a learning curve. Of course, if he's never worked with an apple device then there is a learning curve with the iPad too.
I would say, let him experiment with both and see which one works for him. The only 'right' answer is the one he likes the most and the one he wants to spend the next couple of years using.
