How to copy a folder more then 4GB from from my iMac to a pendrive or external hard disk?

how to copy a folder more then 4GB from from my iMac to a pendrive or external hard disk?
i have an iMac 27inch with os x 10.8.

You'll have to reformat the drive.
Assuming you want to use it with both Mac and Windows, reformat it on the Windows machine as exFAT (this is FAT64 as opposed to the standard formatting for those drives as FAT32)
exFAT has no file size limitations (for all practical purposes).
This will require the Windows machine to be on at least XP (with an update) and the Mac on 10.6.5 or higher
If it's being used only with Mac, reformat as GUID partition map and Mac OS Extended.

    You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.
    If you want the drop-down arrow you can add it with the Back/forward dropmarker add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker

    You can use the SPFolder.CopyTo method.
    public static void CopyFolder()
    SPFolder folder = null;
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://basesmcdev2/sites/tester1"))
    using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
    folder = web.GetFolder("shared%20documents/newfolder");
    folder.CopyTo("tester4/newfolder");

  • Can my Mac Mini 2.26GHz Intel ever handle more then 4GB RAM?

    I have read or found people who mod apples to new levels of performance. Is it possible in anyway to make my 4GB turn to 8GB. Am I correct in thinking that I cant just install 2x4GB - and magic will happen?

    Also I just visited the Kingston site and even they don't specify that my system can handle more then 4GB....

  • How do I copy my time machine back up from a smaller Hard disk to a larger hard disk; so that I can then continue to back up, through Time machine, on the larger hard disk?

    I am using time machine for backing up on an external hard disk. This has now become full and every back up results in the deletion of the first back up on the hard drive.
    I have bought a larger hard drive now and am trying to copy the back up from the smaller hard drive to the new larger hard drive, using Finder. This is not happening and the message I am getting is
    "The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a back up"

    Hello UmeshNB,
    Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you are not able to move a backup to another drive. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
    Time Machine: How to transfer backups from the current backup drive to a new backup drive - Apple Support
    If it is not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with a GUID partition. If you do not know how, see the steps in this article.
    If the drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended but without journaling, OS X may state that "the volume has the wrong case sensitivity" to be used as a back up disk.
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Mario

    ps can we have a suggested improvements page where we can bullet point changes as at the moment the n900 is very basic in functionality.

    after swiping, an arrow icon on the left side of the screen will show up, you have to tap on the arrow icon once to make a red sign appear over it, then you can select text

  • I am running iTunes on an IBM comp system Win XP with a 70gb hard disk. I have 4 kids with 4 IPOD Touches. Their apps and album art are eating up the hard disk space. I changed the Media Folder to an external hard disk. How do I get the apps to go their?

    I am running iTunes on an IBM compatible system running Windows XP with a relatively small hard disk (70gb). I have 4 kids with 4 IPOD Touches, multiple IPOD Nanos, etc. Their apps and album art are eating up the hard disk space. I changed the Media Folder through Edit, Prferences, Advances, iTunes Media Folder to an external hard disk. The new music downloads and purchases go there but the apps and other items do not. How do I get the apps and other iTunes software and downloads to go to the external hard disk

    There is no built in function to make this happen.
    Your options are:
    Upgrade the existing hard drive.
    Try creating a link for the app folder on the external drive... this may or may not work.
    Realistically, a larger hard drive is a better solution, then use the external drive for keeping a backup of the ENTIRE iTunes folder and any other personal data on the system.

  • How do i retrieve file vault protected files from an external hard disk that used to be my mbp's hard drive? the hard disk got corrupted and will no longer boot. I put it in an enclosure and attempted to copy my files but failed because of FV encryption.

    This external hard disk used to serve as the main drive of my mbp. It got corrupted and the OSX would no longer load. I upgraded to a 500gb hd and used the old hd as an external drive. I tried to copy my files but i could not access them because of the filevault encryption. 110gb of hd space appears as used which means that my files are still in the drive. Is there a way to retrieve these files? thanks

    According to your post, you're using Leopard, so FileVault only encrypts your user folder (unlike Lion). On the mounted external drive, in your user folder, you should see a file called username.sparsebundle, with username being your user name. Double-click that file to open it and it should prompt you for a password. Type in your password and the file will mount as a volume in Finder. You should be able to copy all of your files over.

  • Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto the shuffle. My laptop crashed whish had all my new music

    Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

    All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
    When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
    At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
    Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

  • How do I copy a home made HD video file (MP4 codec) of 10 GB from an external hard disk to my Mac Book Pro? Thanks

    How do I copy a home made HD video file (MP4 codec) of >10 GB from an external hard disk to my Mac Book Pro? Thanks

    I will never know if the problem was one of transfer or format compatibility.  The movie would not copy from one external hard diask to another, both attached to my MAC. But when the movie (which was in mpg by the way) was downloaded directly (without any other intermediary) into my external disk from the computer (a PC) where the movie was originated, the file did copy. And when I attached that external hard disk to my MAC, i could see it  using the MPEC streamclip app.
    Thank you anyway!

  • How to extract a folder (and its contents) from inside a zip file?

    There is a zip file which contains a folder inside it. The folder itself contains a few files. I would need to know how to extract the folder (with its contents) from inside a zip file.
    I have found a few unzipping code samples which show how to handle a folder inside a zip file. An example is shown below:
    public static void extract(String workingDirectory, byte[] zipFile)
    throws Exception {
    ByteArrayInputStream byteStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(zipFile);
    ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ZipInputStream zipStream = new ZipInputStream(byteStream);
    ZipEntry zipEntry = null;
    String nameZipEntry = null;
    byte[] contentZiphttp://forum.java.sun.com/post!default.jspa?forumID=31#
    Click for code tagsEntry = null;
    boolean isDirectory = false;
    int indexFileSeparator = -1;
    String directory = null;
    String fileName =  null;
    while ( (zipEntry = zipStream.getNextEntry()) != null )
                nameZipEntry = workingDirectory + File.separator + zipEntry.getName();
                isDirectory = zipEntry.isDirectory();
                if (isDirectory) {
    File file = new File(nameZipEntry);
    file.mkdirs();
                else
                    // read zipEntry
                    byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
                    int c = 0;
                    while ( (c = zipStream.read(buf)) != -1)
                        out.write(buf, 0, c);
                    indexFileSeparator = nameZipEntry.lastIndexOf(File.separator);
                    directory = nameZipEntry.substring(0, indexFileSeparator);
                    fileName =  nameZipEntry.substring(indexFileSeparator+1,nameZipEntry.length());
                    FileSystemTools.createFile(directory, fileName, out);
                    out.reset();
                    zipStream.closeEntry();
            zipStream.close();
            byteStream.close();
    }The code sample which deals with the part where the zipEntry is a directory creates a directory with the same path and name. (highlighted in bold)
    Another similar variation is:
    File file = new File(dirDestiny.getAbsolutePath() + File.separator + zipEntry.getName() );
    if(zipEntry.isDirectory())
          file.mkdirs();When the code creates a directory for the folder, does it unzip the contents inside the folder as well?
    If not, how do I extract the files inside the folder?

    Have you already tried to see if the sample code you downloaded works or not? Maybe if you try out the code yourself you can see if it extracts files from a directory within a zip file?
    I like to use pkzip. It is a command line compression/uncompression tool that can be used from a batch file. If you assignment involves unzipping large amount of zip files on a regular basis, I recommend taking a look at pkzip.

    Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies.  How do I reverse this?

    Paragraphs help the reader, just saying.
    What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
    Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
    It makes no difference at all.
    How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
    You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
    Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
    HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
    I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
    Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
    You're somewhat confused and you need to
    1. Decide what exactly you want to do
    2. Then go about it.
    If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do -  the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
    You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto

  • HT201269 I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6. Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?

    I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6.
    1) Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?
    2) Can I back up the newsstand to iCloud and save memory on the iPhone?
    3) Can I back up the bookshelf to icloud and save memory on the iPhone?

    1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
    2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
