How to copy apps to new Mac Pro?

Is there an easy way to copy the applications from my G4 to my new Mac Pro? It would be nice if at least some of them can be moved over along with the user licenses.

If they are Universal Binary and can be just dragged to /Applications you are probably fine, but if they use an installer, then only migrate your home account folder and install fresh. Good to collect and keep all your software downloads and updates in one place.
PPC and Intel are different operating systems and support libraries, at least with Tiger, and can cause anything from sluggish weird performance to downright nasty.

  • How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline via HDMI

How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline in FCP 7 (yes, I have X, but I'm using 7 right now). I have two monitors running from TB2, but want to have the third for a client monitor.
If I use all three via TB2, it's literally three monitors, and I want to edit on my CineDisplay. I only want the client to see the timeline video on the third monitor. When I hook up HDMI I get no signal, in fact, I can't have the HDMI cable hooked up for TB2 to work with the third.
    Thanks,

If you use all ThunderBolt displays, or stick with DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort (free conversion between the two with only a cheap cable) you can have up to six displays.
If you attach "legacy" displays with "any-old adapter", you can have up to two, and the built-in HDMI counts as one if you use it.
    Any more requires ACTIVE Adapters.
The US$100 Apple ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter works in every case, even displays over 1920 wide.
StarTech and Accell make US$35 ACTIVE adpters that work for displays up to 1920 wide.

  • How to transfer fcp7 to new mac pro mavericks

    OSX 10.9.5
    2014 Mac Pro (trash can)
    2.7 GHz 12 Core Intel Xeon E5
    32GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Hey everyone, I need some help.
I would like to transfer FCP7 to my recently purchased Mac Pro.
I'm in the process of upgrading, but first need FCP7 to work before making all the final changes.
I would attempt a clean install but the original FCS, along with the FCP7 upgrade discs are currently lost ever since I moved from NY TO MN.
I migrated FCP7 directly from my 2010 Mac Pro into the new Mac Pro applications folder. But immedialetly after trying to launch FCP7 I get "Final Cut Pro cannot be opened because of a problem."
Did I miss any hidden files or folders located elsewhere in the CPU?
I would like to run FCP7 on the new Mac Pro (2014) from my previously purchased copy currently located on my older Mac Pro (2010) which is also running Mavericks.
I hope I made enough sense to you all, enough to get pointed in the right direction.
    Peace and thank you,
    B-NYC

How did you do this? Without the original install discs, your only option it to use the Migration Assistant.app.
If you just copied the application, it will not work.
If you did get if from your older computer via the Migration Assistant.app, then trash your FCP preferences.
You can download (free) Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion and it will do all the work for you:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Your FCP preferences will be reset to default settings the next time you launch FCP.

  • How Will iMovie Run on New Mac Pro (late 2013)?

Is iMovie v10 ever likely to be upgraded to support the multiple-cores in the new Mac Pro (late 2013) the way Final Cut Pro X does? If not, will a fast iMac run iMovie about as well as the new Mac Pro (late 2013)?

No one here knows what Apples plans are for iMovie?
I think it's fair to say everything will run faster on the new MacPro but I don't think it's a reason by itself to upgrade hardware.
iMovie 10.0.9 runs just fine on my 2010 iMac.

  • Copy iTunes from win 7 pro to new Mac Pro?

Have all my work on my iPhone 5s. Do nothing but manually syncing on lates iTunes. What to copy iTunes to new Mac Pro so I can use my iPhone on either computer.
Laptop at work and desktop at home.
All store bought music on C drive in iTunes as it should be along with books etc. but about 8 gbs of my ripped music some mp3 some ACC all at 320 is on my internal drive.
First thought is change iTunes setting to CONSOLIDATE hoping D drive music will go into iTunes properly.
While I searched KB I came up flat. I like a clean organized computer. While I know windows vert well I am new to Mac pros (but not iPhones nor iOS 7)..
Any way I can do this cleanly. I can put a full backup of iTunes onto a USB hard drive I use for 3rd back up off pictures and iTunes
    Thank you

does anyone know how this can be done please?

  • HT1727 i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

If you bought them on your iPad then you will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library and you can then sync them to your iPhone - ringtones are a one-time only download, so you won't be able to redownload them directly on your phone.

  • Can I migrate/copy my iTunes configuration to a new Mac Pro?

I have been able to copy over the sparse-bundle backups and restore.   But what I need to know is if I can copy over the entire configuration of iTunes (not just the music) such that my sync settings are retained (ie: sync only checked songs).  I have a considerably large collection of music and there's no way I want to go through selection again.   I just had my iPhone replaced, have a new cylinder Mac Pro to which I want to migrate this data.
I did perform an rsync of the Music directory structure to my new Mac Pro, but it appears to be missing settings (as I mention above).   I imagine that's stored elsewhere.
    Could someone elaborate?
    Thanks!

Found out how to address plist conversion from this page:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20050430105126392
But I think iTunes has sorted this out.  As my $HOME is actually /Users/username and not /Volumes/Home/username on the new Mac.  We'll see... I'm sync'ing now

  • How do I stop my new mac book pro from opening all my old emails and flasing them in the top right corner?

How do I stop my new Mac book Pro from opening all my old emails and flashing them in the upper right.

Copy the entire iTunes folder within the music folder on your old Mac to the music folder on your new Mac.
You can use an external hard disc for the transfer, or you can connect the computers together using Firewire Target Disc Mode as explained here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661

  • After migrating to new Mac Pro Dreamweaver won't launch, says missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

After migration to a new Mac Pro Dreamweaver CS6 won't launch. It says it is missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

    Hi rustyg12,
    Go to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6/Configuration/Menus/menus.bak
You'll see a menus.xml there - it is a backup copy of the actual menus.xml file that DW uses.
Copy it from that folder, paste it 1 level above (in Menus folder).
Fire up DW. See if it works.

  • Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my address book after importing the files from my Power mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • New Mac Pro: No CS6 apps in D/L list???

I have an older Mac Pro which had CS5 Design Premium on it when I became a CC member a couple of years ago.
On that computer, when running the Creative Cloud App, I get all CS 6 apps, as well as the newer versions, such as CC, and CC 2014.
But on this new Mac Pro, the ONLY apps I can d/l are CC 2014 apps.
Is this a bug? An obsolescence plan? What???
I want to know how to get all CC apps and CS6 apps as well, since sometimes there are unwanted limitations with later CC apps.
    Thanks for any help.

DOH!  It's in the CC app: a drop-down list under "FIND NEW APPS."
    Found, downloaded.

  • My new Mac Pro 2.66..how sweet it is!

So I received my new Mac Pro and, while in the process of setting things up, I have to say this is one gorgeous machine having opted for the ATI 4870 card and 6 GBs of RAM. Compared to my old G5 it is silent; the only fan noise occurs upon booting and then... *cricket chirps*
I salvaged the G5's stock hard drive (160Gb, SATA 1.5) and another 500GB Maxtor (SATA 3.0) and now have 3 HDDs. Suggestions how to use the 2 extra drives?
The only minor annoyances are a click that sounds every so often (the same click you hear when you put your mac to sleep) and the space bar on the wired alu. KB which makes a loose "clackity" sound when pressed. I may ask for an exchange.
Otherwise I am one happy camper with my new Mac Pro!!!!
    Frank

    Hi Frank
am Just doing the same as you- setting up a new 2.66 after retiring my G5!
It's a fantastic machine and so nicely designed inside
I am not experiencing any unwanted clicks- from the machine, my space bar is a bit nosier than the other keys -but hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it.
As for what to use the other drives for- i'd put any media you use on them- video, audio, photo libraries & sound loops etc. depend on what you use the computer for- keeping your system drive just for OS and Applications.
    I'm a happy camper too!

  • My brand new mac pro always had Internet connection issues at school. WHY is that? I see the school's Internet working perfectly fine on other PC's, but there is never a day where my mac doesn't have Internet connection issues at school. How do I fix it?

I got my mac pro in the middle of August. School started the week after. Internet was working perfectly fine at home. But at school, I never had a good connection. Sometimes on the good days I get a connection when I'm sitting at the exact spot in class I always sit at. It's ridiculous and it's frustrating. I invested my money into this laptop and I'm beginning to regret it. I thought it was the school's Internet, but I don't see Internet issues with other PC users. It's most frustrating on registration days and I'm trying to register for my classes before it gets taken, but again... Internet connection issues. It's random. Majority of the time, it doesn't work at all. I've done Network Diagnosis and turning WiFi off then turning it on again. I've done everything I could. I put my money on this laptop and it was a lot of money. I could have bought an 800 dollars laptop and I would have Internet connection anywhere on campus. So, I don't want to continue everyday to regret on buying this laptop every time I try to connect to the Internet at school or Starbucks or anywhere else. How do I fix this? What's the problem ?
At school, I heard this guy had a problem with Internet connections too and he owned a new mac book pro. He said something like Apple messed up on something, but he fixed it. If I knew mac book pro's had these issues I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's freezing on me every other day. It's ridiculous. But what concerns me the most is the Internet connection. So someone please tell me what can I do next to prevent the problem? Am I doing something wrong maybe?

    Hi Kevin,
I'm using an XLR input mic which is connected to the phantom power enabled XLR mic socket on a USB M-Audio M-Track. The M-Track is connected by USB to the Mac Pro - so effectively I've got an M-Audio USB soundcard with a mic input.  I've also tried a microphone that is a straight XLR to USB cable (guessing with some soundcard chip buried in the usb plug) but that also yields the same effect of bad latency, intermittent quality, stuttering and repeating and echoing (without the speakers on during record so its not feedback).
The mic works absolutely fine with other recording applications I have on the mac at the moment - albeit non-adobe ones (tested it on the EasyAudioRecorder - and it lives up to its name. it's easy)
I will try with Audition and report back, but sitting here right now I can imagine it would work fine with audition too - it just seems to be the way premiere is set up for recording into the timeline is a bit sketchy.  I'm willing to accept it might well be a quirk with the new Mac Pro trashcan - I'm not weighting all the woes on premiere.
Any thoughts or am I out of luck to sit with my fingers crossed for a fix in the next round of updates?
    Nathan.
