How to copy back my ipod music and playlists to a PC?

My computer got a virus and I had to reformat the hardrive, how do I put back all my music from my "ipod color display" back to my music folder in my pc with all the songs, song ratings and playlists?
Thank you for the help.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer any other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup. The restore will also update the iOS.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music
Are you sure you have a 3G iPod? A 1G iPod can only go to iOS 3.1.3

how can i sync all my music and playlists from my iphone to my new computer

Yes.  You can sync everything that is currently on your iPod Touch to your newer one. Just plug it in and sync it like you did with the old one.
If you want to retain your App data, see this article for information on backing up your current iPod Touch and restoring the backup onto a new one.

If you purchase the iPad, keep in mind that some Apps may not be compatible with it.

  • How do I back up my music and apps?

I've just authorised my iPhone for my new iTunes installation on a new laptop. Now, I wish to back up everything on my phone to it.
However, all I see is a Sync, which apparently just wants to transfer stuff from the laptop to the iPhone, not the other way around.
The Backup option just seems to backup my messages, contacts & other data.
I can't work out how to initially get all my music and apps onto the laptop.

Click here and follow the instructions.

  • How can I migrate my itunes music and playlists from my old PC to my new macbook?

    Hi
I have a approx 250 GB of music and itunes content to move to my new macbook pro (running Lion) from my PC laptop (Windows 7)
I'd like to retain all the playlists that I have painstakingly built over the past few years but I dont want to rebuild them all manually. I'm not concerned about retaining info on play counts etc, I want to copy all the media to the mac and replicate the playlists.
None of the media is in the default itunes location (normally in Music in My Documents), the iTunes Media folder lives in another folder on my harddrive called 'Audio etc'. The majority of the music files are in various subfolders I created manually and the newest stuff lives in the iTunes Media folder (since I recently told iTunes to organise new music for me).
When I've moved my music from PC to PC I simply copied all the itunes files and copied my music to folders replicating the same file paths as per the previous computer so the playlists are looking for the music files in all the right locations. Easy.
I considered copying all the itunes library files from the pc to replace the existing itunes files on my mac and copy across all my music (not sure where to put it though).
I expect the 'migrate files' setup wizard on the mac would help me in this situation or is it cleverer that I think?
One suggestion I read was to use the consolidate function in iTunes which will copy my entire collection to the iTunes Media folder and I assume will update the file locations for the playlists and library file then some how migrate that to the mac. Only problem is my harddrive will not have nearly enough space to have duplicate copies of all that music in the iTunes Media folder and it's original location at the same time.
    Any suggestions?
I'm stupidly trying to do all this in time for a DJ gig tomorrow night but if I get desperate I'll just have to copy my music over and manually create some of my important playlists.
    Thanks
    Jon

Unfortunately not without a computer, unless you are signed up for music match. You can redownload purchased content but not the rest of your library.

  • How do I back up my iTunes and playlists to an external drive?

my laptop has recently crashed and I've lost over 8500+ songs. I am in the process of restoring my songs, and need to back up songs/ playlists to an external drive as I go, can anybody assist, please?
    thanks

See Make a split library portable for advice on getting your library into the correct shape for storing on an external drive.
See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on retrieving any useful information from your devices.
See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy as suggested by hhgttg27 for backup advice. If you are going to run your library from an external drive connected to your laptop then you need a second external drive to act as backup to the first. Hard drives can fail at any time without warning.

  • My iPod deleted all my music and playlists on the iPod when synching!

I turned on wifi on my iPod and opened up iTunes today to add music to the iPod. It was doing fine, then suddenly a song I was adding froze (it stayed grey on iTunes with a synching icon by it). It stayed like that for I don't know how long, I thought it was fine and so I wasn't looking. I look back a while later and every song on my iPod as displayed on iTunes has an exclamation point by it. I look at my iPod and it says "No Music." iTunes still knows all my playlists and songs and shows my iPod as having them all, except for all the exclamation points.
What happened, and how do I get all my music and playlists back?
I have an iPod Touch 4g with iOS 5, and iTunes 10.

Currently trying to do a restore from a backup I made about a week ago. I don't know if that will help; I'll update when it's done.
    EDIT: Music still gone.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I have an iPod Classic 5th Gen.  After 1 month I've lost all my music and playlist files.  The only files left are music I have purchased from iTunes.  How do I restore my music library to my iPod?

I have an iPod Classic 5th Generation.  I have not used it for about one month.  When I turned it on, I had lost all my music and playlist files.  The only thing left on the iPod was the music and audio books I have purchased from iTunes store.  I tried to delete everything on the ipod by sliding the hold button and then pressing the center button and the menu and I saw the apple logo on the screen but the iPod wouldn't reboot.  Any suggestions as to how I can delete everything on the iPod and then plug it into my computer to restore my music library?  I am using a Windows 7 operating system.

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • How do I restore my music and playlists from my iPod 4g to my iPod 5g?

I did a "full" backup to my computer of my old iPod, and restored my new iPod from that backup, but my music is completely empty and I don't want to manually put all my music and playlists back together. Help???

FIrst transfer the music from your old iPod to your iTunes by simply syncing it! After that,
How about syncing your new iPod with the 'Sync Music' box checkmarked ?

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Most other stuff by the third-party programs discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
However, your app data such as saved games will be lost unless you have a backup file from your old computer.
