  • Satellite L300 - New hard disk drive info needed

I own a Satellite L300 and have to replace the hard disk drive. I am in Korea and went to the service center, but they only couldn't replace the disk drive because they only had them in Korean, so I have to go elsewhere to get one in English (that's what I think I was told anyway) I don't know a whole lot about computers, so I am looking for some help.
When I bought my computer it came with Vista pre installed, therefore I don't have an installation disk or anything like that. Because I am getting a new hard disk drive, will I also need to buy Vista and install it myself?

    Hello my friend
I am a little bit confused after reading your posting. HDD replacement is so simply and can be done by everyone and I don't understand how the service couldnt be able to do this. for this action you need 10 minutes and can be done without manuals or some maintenance manuals.
If you want to do this alone, please follow these steps:
    - turn notebook upside down
    - remove the battery
    - near the battery you will see HDD cover fixed with two screws
    - remove the screws and HDD cover
    - remove the HDD pack by pulling on the tab attached to the pack, following the direction of the arrows
    - place the HDD pack on a flat surface (such as a desk), and remove the two black flat head screws with black head screws
Please be careful with HDDs and do not apply pressure to the top or bottom of the drive.
    Vista OS
New Toshiba notebooks are delivered without installations disc but recovery image is saved on HDD. When you start notebook for the first time you will see Toshiba reminder with info that you must create such disc alone using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. if you didn't create it and now the HDD is defective you have a problem. Either you must order new recovery media from Toshiba or you can use Microsoft installations disc to install Vista.
If Ive forgot something please let me know.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and

  • Copying OSX and Win XP partitions to a new hard disk drive

Hi guys. I just upgraded my MBP to a new 160GB Hitachi HDD (from 100GB) but got stucked in copying/cloning Windows XP partition. I tried SuperDuper but it can only copy Mac partitions.(successfully and its currently running) Win XP partition cannot be recognized. I'm connecting the old drive in USB.
Has anyone done this without going through the hassle of running (again) BootCamp, reinstalling Win XP and its related apps?
    Any thoughts/comments greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might try using the Restore option of Disk Utility. Basic procedure is:
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the source volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Drag the source volume to the Source entry field.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Of course you will need to have the new hard drive pre-setup with a Windows partition equal to or larger than the source partition.
Alternatively, you can boot into Windows with the new drive (already partitioned) and use Window's backup program to backup to the new drive.

  • Can I replace my new hard disk drive with my old one???

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro 13' (mid 2012) and I wonder if I can put inside the hard disk (SSD) from my old Macbook Pro 13' (mid 2010)

The hard drive itself should work. The only thing to be aware of is the operating system on the previous MacBook Pro. If it's older than the version your new MacBook Pro came with it may not run.

  • How do you query bios for hard disk drives?

Is there any way to query the bios to find out the interupt address (i.e. 80x) of all the attached hard disks?
Only I need to manually figure it out for installing grub or lilo.

If you have a working Linux system installed you can do lspci -v, but it sounds like you are just installing, so you can't do this. Why do you need to know the interrupts for your hard drives for GRUB/LILO? I don't recall ever having to know this information to install either LILO or GRUB or even the FreeBSD boot loader.

  • Time Machine after installing a new Hard Disk Drive

Sorry I just posted this to the Time Capsule section by mistake!!! Hopefully this is the right place !
Having used my 1Gig Time Capsule for nearly 8 months the HDD failed last week on my MacBook. After replacing the HDD and after nearly 18 hours the HDD was backed-up again. BUT ! ! !.........
........ I no longer had access to any data saved prior to the new HDD installation. Time Machine does show back-ups back to 4 July 2008 ! (old and new data being saved in the same bundle), but prior to the new HDD installation they are greyed out. So I can't access back-ups made on my MacBook with another drive fitted. I ask myself what good is that ?
Does anyone know how to work round this one please, or is all lost?
Thanks for anyone who reads this and a bigger thanks for anyone who replies with a possible solution.
    regards
    David

    Great!
But . . . you may now have another problem. TM may not delete the "old" backups in the normal fashion. When it needs to make room for new ones, it may start deleting the oldest of the "new" set instead.
You can monitor this via your logs. Download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window.
Every time TM runs, it deletes "expired" backups (hourlies after 24 hours, dailies after a month), and each one is documented in your log. So most backups will have one deletion. Navigate in the widget from backup to backup (it will only go back a few days) to see which ones are being deleted. If any of the old set are/were deleted after the drive replacement, you're fine.
If not, you'll have two rather bad choices: erase the drive (via Airport Utility) and let TM start over, or delete the old set, one at a time, via the TM interface. This is a tedious and time-consuming procedure, especially on a TC. Let us know if you need to do this, but don't know how.

  • New hard disk for HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc

I need to get af new hard disk drive for my HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc. I have great difficulties in getting in touch with HP denmark since my product is out of waranty.
My questions is if the PC can handle a disk larger than my current on on 500 GB. Further more I am not sure about other potential limits the PC could have ini regards to speed and other parameters on a new disk drive
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

As your computer is out of warranty, please purchase a 500GB - 2TB 3.5" SATA2 or 3 hard drive from an online or local retailer. If the new drive is an AF (Advanced Format) drive, you may have issues using the HP Recovery Media you created or purchased.
If this is the case and you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to your computer, you can install Windows 7 using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. This method will not install any HP customizations or value-added software and you will have to manually install all needed drivers.
Links to Windows 7 SP1 can be found HERE and HERE. (Download the Windows 7)
Direct link to Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. (Use to create the media from the ISO)

  • Upgrading Hard Disk Drive of Lenovo THINKPAD T500 2055 ?

    Hi there,
My personal laptop is Lenovo THINKPAD T500 2055, and its main specifications as follows:
    - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2).
    - 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module 4 GB (2 x 4 GB) 1066MHz DDR31066/PC38500 DDR3 SDRAM SoDIMM Kingston
    - ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB.
    - 160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm.
I really need to upgrade the Hard Disk Drive to a bigger size (500 GB, 7200 rpm). and, my major questions are as follows:
    * Could you please advise me on which Hard Disk Drive (500 GB, 7200 rpm) should I buy for my T500 laptop?
For example, I found (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NSBF32) But I have no idea what T500 supports and what it doesn't... Therefore, I need your help to guide me about this matter. In other words, How do you know if ABC-Hard Disk Drive fits with T500 and XYZ-Hard Disk Drive doesnt fit? What is the clue in knowing what T500 accepts?
    My another question is:
    * How easy is it to remove/replace Hard Disk Drive in Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ???
I already watched CRU Removals/Replacements on (http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/R61_T61/index.html), But the clip is for ThinkPad R61 and T61. So, Could you please help me how to handle it with T500 ?
I would greatly appreciate your inputs.
Thanks for your consideration of my request, and I very much look forward to hearing from you soon !

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Any SATA drive that is 2.5'' wide and 9.5mm high will work in your T500. The drive you linked to meets the requirement and thus will work.
For removal and installation instructions, have a look here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-71568.html
    Hope this helps.

I have an external hard disk drive with data that I want to back up onto another extrnal hard disk drive. I have tried to copy and paste but this wont give me a paste option. I have also tried to click and drag but it wont let me either. I have reformatted the external hard drive to accept both mac and pc files and this did not make any difference. Can anyone help me with this?

How did you reformat the drive? If you formatted it as NTFS, your Mac will not be able to write files to it unless you use a small application such as Paragon's.
Please reply as to how you formatted the drive.

  • How to restore my Ipod touch into a new hard disk/computer?

Guys, my Laptop's hard drive was crash and all my songs and applications were the only copy I had. However, I had no idea how to restore my musics and application back to the library after I had replace a new hard disk. I went through online to check out some solutions but basically they required a software to retrieve those music and they cost money. I don't think I deserve this since I had spent $70 to get a new hard disk. The worst was mostly they only able to restore musics and videos. I don't think they're able to restore the applications, please give me some advises. Thanks

You should always maintain a backup. If you fail to do this you are asking to lose your data.
    You can transfer itunes purchases:
    File>Transfer Purchases
Unlike music and videos, you can re-download apps:
