    ok - since you'll be sharing it with a PC - connect it to your windows pc - then format from there - instead of NTFS format - choose exFAT.
    or, you can read the link below on how to do it in dos mode.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/how-can-i-forma t-external-drive-in-exfat-not-in/0f6bf19a-19d6-4470-ae05-53ddf26bb476?msgId=1860 eae3-3488-4eea-8326-f87b89d9851b
    once you've formatted it - you can now use it in both your macbook and windows computer.

  • How to copy DVD

    After searching the forum, I can't get a clear sense of how to copy a dvd I made with iMovie and iDVD on my wife's MacBook. I made a two DVD's on her computer a couple of years ago before we got a Mac desktop. I would like to rip/copy/transfer (?) those dvd's onto the desktop and synch them to my iPod also. Our desktop is OS X 10.5.8.
    Won't you please help the lost and deficient?

    use 3rd party apps such as HandBrake or _*MPEG Streamclip*_.
    both have presets for iPod and TV.

  • Please help - how to copy DVD to computer so that it will play on computer

    I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but I am stuck. I have a DVD of my son-in-law's memorial service that I need to copy onto my computer in a playable form. The DVD itself works great on both the TV, and on the computer (playing with iDVD on the latter). However, I simply do not know how to copy the contents of the DVD to my hard drive so that it will play directly from the drive, and so that I can place the video file in my .Mac public folder for relatives to download. When I open (not play) the DVD, I see two folders: AUDIO_TS which is empty, and VIDEO_TS, which contains files. I have copied these to my hard drive, and I have also made a disk image of the DVD on my drive. However, neither of these gives me a file on which I can click and get it to play. (If I insert the DVD itself into the computer, iDVD launches and the movie plays). Please help. Thank you!

  • How to copy data from mac to external HD Drive

    How do i copy data from mac book to an external hard disk drive?

    Click on the Desktop area (the area where there are no open windows or Dock)
    Look at the menu at the top next to the small Apple, it should say Finder
    Click on the File men and select New Finder Window
    Click on the File men and select New Finder Window (or stick in a disk, a USB, connect a hard drive and double click on the icon that appears on the Desktop)
    Grab the Window by the top area by clicking and holding the mouse button down so both are side by side.
    Click on the sidebar or open folders on the first window to get to where your files are
    Click on the sidebar or open folders on the second window to get to where your destination is going to be
    Click and drag the files or folder from one window to the other
    If this occurs between volumes, it will copy
    If this occurs on the same volume, it will move them
    If you want to copy on the same volume, use the Finder > File > Duplicate and move the copy

  • HT4461 how to format dvd on mac

    How to formatt dvd on mac

    Hi
    Do You want -
    * Data-DVD - for storage of documents, photos and movie materials - this do not play on any standard DVD-Player
    * Video-DVD - to be played on standard DVD Players
    Data-DVD - just pop in a new empthy DVD and move material to it on DeskTop. On Eject it will burn data to it. NO incremental Burns are possibly on a Mac - without very special programs.
    Video-DVD - You need a DVD-authoring Program as iDVD or DVD Studio Pro or Compressor (and lot's of KnowHow) or Roxio Toast or Burn.
    Start Program
    Add material - movies/slideshows etc
    Click on Burn button
    ON REQUEST - Now first put in a blanc (New) DVD disk.
    Yours Bengt W

  • How to Copy DVDs

    I hope that this is an elementary question, so please someone enlighten me on my ignorance.
    I would like to :
    1) copy DVD's that I created in IMovie/DVD (my own videos, no copyright, so I should be able to do it!)
    2) re-edit portions of DVDs that I previously created IMovie/IDVD
    Can I do this with IMovie/DVD? Or do I need to buy/download another program such as Toast to accomplish this?
    I thought that I was saving so much room by copying all my videotapes to DVD and then I realized that I couldn't copy them! I am a synchronized swim coach, and often need to make multiple copies of previous routine performances for my swimmers, and it just doesn't seem to be obvious to me.

    Hi Dale and welcome to the forums!
    1. You can clone/copy your own home-made DVDs in Disk Utility, but Toast is much easier to use for this.
    2. This requires a bit more work as you are 'retro-engineering' a delivery format not intended for editing!
    You need to convert the VOB files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
    which is free, as well as the the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
    Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal. (I have to add that!)
    If you know you will need multiple (but identical) copies of a DVD, then it is better to save the project as a Disk Image and burn copies from that. This saves all the rendering time from the first copy.
    If you need multiple, but all slightly different, copies, then you will have to find room somewhere for the original iMovie project, which you can re-edit before sending to iDVD.

  • How to copy cd using Mac

    Hi all
    I've just brought an apple Mac book pro laptop. It’s my first experience using apple. How do I copy a DVD and cd ? Do I need to install software?
    Thank you for your help

    ...simply drag files into the CD icon and drag to the trash and it'll burn.
    What do you mean "and drag to trash?" After moving the files to the CD, does then moving the CD to the Trash automatically begin burning? Why? Weird if so.
    To burn DVD's use the iDVD app that should be bundled with your macbook pro
    Depending on what you want to put on your DVD, you may or may not want to use iDVD. I downloaded a 26 episode season of a TV show I watch. On a single layer DVD, iDVD will only be able to burn 2 episodes per DVD (5 on a double layer). If you aren't planning on watching your video on a television set via a standard DVD player, and you aren't concerned about having menus, you can just do a raw file dump to the DVD the same exact way lazygramophone described except select "Burn DVD" instead. This allowed me to fit 25 episodes on 1 DVD. Again, this will only allow you to watch the video on your computer (or on a TV if you connect the computer to your TV via a video-out line.)

  • 1 airbook; 1 superdrive. No software to copy dvds on mac ?? Whats up with that ?

    I went to copy some friends non-commercial DVDs and found I couldn't figure out how to do it. Since I bought a superdrive, I expect an easy-to-use DVD burner/reader software already on the Mac to use it ! Did I miss something, or do I now have to buy one ?(which would truly, truly suck !)

    Use the Disk Utility to image them as CD/DVD masters and burn the images.

  • How to copy DVD so it will play on a Windows PC?

    I have a home made DVD that plays fine on both a Windows XP PC and my Mac OS X 10.4.11 system. I have used Disk Utilites to duplicate the disk, following the directions in the Help System for copying a DVD. All seems to work fine on my Mac, the copy plays just fine. When I put it into the Windows XP PC, the system does not recognize the disk as valid and asks me to insert a DVD.
    Any thoughts on what I might be missing?

    Try this method of duplication:
    <font "size=+1">Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.

  • How to copy dvd to external harddisk?

    Hello
    I have like 25 dvds with private videos that I would like to make a backup on on my external harddisk, Lacie (1,23 TB free space)
    How is the most easiest way to do it?
    I can not see the dvd in finder when playing it? If so it would been easy to just make a copy paste!
    In finder I can see the external harddisk plus samsung dvd recorder?
    Do anyone know?
    Txs alot in advance
    Tommy

    Repair permissions, restart your computer then insert your dvd when you reach the desktop.  If that does not work, zap the pram and try again when you reach your desktop.

  • How To Copy DVDs to iPod using free software for Windows

    To take existing DVDs that you have around the house and put them onto iPod:
    You'll need two programs, DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod Converter.
    Now, use this step by step tutorial for converting DVDs with DVD Decrypter. Note: Once you reach the part about PSP Video 9, stop watching and use the 'One Click Transcode' option in Videora to select and convert the VOB file that DVD Decrypter produces.
    Once you have a converted file, add it to iTunes in the same way as music (drag it into the iTunes library) and it will automatically copy across to your iPod.

    Is that an error message coming up when you try to use the program? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.
    If you cannot get DVDs to rip then that could be a problem. But to be honest, I have no idea what an ASPI layer is and my copy of DVD Decrypter works fine. I suspect this is probably an integral Windows component and you already have it.
