How to copy files using single user option command??

i want to copy all fonts in library/fonts to the original fonts folder in system/library/fonts becouse i cut all fonts in the original folder to font folder under library and the mac doesn't work, but still i can access the system from single user options, and i need to know the command to copy the fonts

Files can be moved with mv or copied using cp or ditto. Use commands such as 'man mv' for usage instructions, or check Apple's developer documentation.

  • Transfer file in Single User Mode (Command S)

Can I mount my iPod as external drive and transfer my documents in Single User Mode? or any other mode? I just cannot login as normal. I want to backup my docs before refresing the OS.

You say 'Documents' not 'Music' so I hope you mean files stored on there using it in Disc Mode not iTunes files?
    Boot in Single User Mode
    at the root# prompt enter
    CD /Volumes
    ls
And see if a) the iPod shows and b) your backup drive shows
If so, the basic command is cp source destination but you must give the complete and correct paths here so post the drive names if you need clarification.

  • How to copy files from one user to another on same macbook pro

I used the migration assistant to move files from an old windows pc to my new macbook pro.  It created a second user and put everything there.  I now can't figure out how to move them so they are under me.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The easiest way is to put your files in /Users/Shared. To access to this folder, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type that directory.
That folder can be read by all users, so you won't have any problem to copy your files to the other user account.
Another option would be to copy your files to an external drive. Also, see > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472

  • How do I reset Tiger Mac OS X 10.4 admin password by using single-user mode

bought a used PowerBook G4 on Ebay. The administrator's password was locked. The Powerbook still can run to the normal screen. However, I am unable to update and install software without a password.
I don't have the original install CD either the second mac for firmware reset. So I wonder if anyone knows how to reset the password by using single user mode or any other methods to do so?
Any input will be greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

This morning we lost power and my iMac G5 (10.4) system got messed up. Specifically, when it restarted, all text in all Finder and application menus were blank (e.g. Click the Apple menu and a long empty white box stretching to the bottom of the screen would appear with no text. The whole box turns blue when you click in it. Ditto for all other finder menus and dialog boxes. Event the User menu was empty. The Disk Utility application shows only icons and empty buttons--no text.)
Restarting in Safe Mode was no better.
I then connected the G5 as a target disk to my iMac G4, and ran the OS X install that came with the G5 (10.3.2). It told me that in order to install an earlier OS X version, I must select certain options: I checked "Archive and Install" and "Preserve Users and Network Settings" (I have 4 accounts set up in addition to my onw admin account) and proceeded with the installation.
At the end of installation, the G4 started (G5 is still in target disk mode) with the G5 as the startup disk. It presented the User Login screen (although it normally does auto-login on my account) but the password for each of the 5 accounts was rejected. The original hints still appear, but it seems that all passwords have been changed.
I then tried the G5 on its own (not as a Target disk) but when it starts up the grey Apple turns into a grey "do not enter" (circle/slash) icon and goes no further.
Can you suggest what I should do now?

But the basics were quite easy to code. The entire package is 500 lines, includes comments and blank lines for formatting, and supports the basic FTP client command set. Not really a complex piece of software to write - but I found that many developers seem to think that writing network socket software is complex. Not really the case...Mine's a big larger, but incorporates functionality similar to what Chris provided in his, such as being able to use SQL to query a remote file using pipelined functions, or functionality to write the results of a query directly to a remove file.

  • How to repair SACL from single-user boot with 'serveradmin settings' (CLI)?

    Hello!
Could anyone explain me in a step-by-step guide to repair/reset service access for local users (and group Administrators) because I can't login to the server when at the login window (GUI). Now I have only access to the OS using single-user mode at boot time (Cmd+S) or with “Mac OS X Server Install Disc” and the Terminal app inside.
I know that CLI ‘serveradmin settings info:????’ should help, but not sure how the proper syntax is typed so that I can login without the login window graphically bouncing when typing in the correct credentials.
    Anyone care to help ?

If I understand right, the reason you can't log in anymore is that the Administrators group has been removed from the service access control list for the "Login Window" service (i.e. the ability to log into the desktop on the server itself). If I'm wrong about this, please clarify; these instructions may be irrelevant (and the second option I'll give may be actively destructive).
Anyway, the repair method I'd recommend is to install the server admin tools on another Mac (that you can log into). There's a copy of the installer on the Server Install DVD, or you can download the latest version from [http://support.apple.com/downloads] (the 10.6.5 version is [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1071]). Note that the admin tools can't be installed on older OS versions (e.g. if the Mac is running 10.6.4, you could install anything from the 10.6.0 to 10.6.4 tools, but not 10.6.5).
Once that's installed, run Server Admin, connect to the server, then select the server in the sidebar -> Access in the toolbar -> Services tab under that -> Login Window in the service list on the left, and either edit the allowed user&group list, or simply select "Allow all users and groups".
The other option is to use single-user mode. You cannot use serveradmin in this mode, because servermgrd isn't running (in fact, pretty much nothing is running); you'll have to do it "by hand".
    1. Since you probably didn't shut the server down cleanly, the first task is to make sure the file structure on the boot volume is ok. Run the command "fsck -fy" to check (and repair) the volume. If it says "FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED", run it again as it may not have found & fixed all problems on the first pass. Keep running it until it says "The volume suchandso appears to be OK", or reports errors it can't fix (in which case you have more serious problems, and should deal with those first).
    2. Once the file structure is verified, you need to enable write access to it to make changes. Run the command "mount -uw /". If it prints anything (other than another command prompt), something went wrong (make sure you included the final "/", and that it had a space before it).
    3. Now, remove the access control group that's disabling access to the login window. This command is pretty long, and if you make any typos it may do something completely unfortunate, so type carefully and use tab completion: type part of a filename (get the capitalization right), then press tab and it'll try to fill in the rest for you; if it doesn't work, you either haven't typed enough of the filename for it to figure out what you mean, or you've made a typo. Anyway, the command is: "mv /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/groups/com.apple.access_loginwindow.plist /var/db".
    4. At this point the access control should be gone. Use the command "exit" to get out of single-user mode, and bring up the full OS.

  • How to backup files from other user logged in as administrator

RE: How to backup files from other user logged in as administrator AND/OR how to repair drive with "Invalid catalog PEOF"
    Hello,
My MacBook Pro computer’s hard drive is not booting.
I booted with the base operating system and ran Disk utilities and I got the following messages:
        Invalid catalog PEOF
The volume could not be verified completely.
This disk needs to be repaired.
Disk utility can’t repair this disk. Backup as many files as possible, reformat the disk,
        and restore your backed-up files.
The problem is that I have a couple of USERS set up on this computer, and it won’t let me backup the files of the second user.  The folders are locked and I can’t access them, even though I am logged in as the administrator.
I made a boot disk on my other computer ( a MacPro Early 2008 ) desktop computer with the DiskWarrior 4.4 updater,
but it won’t boot on my MacBook Pro.
How can I backup these user files so that I can copy them back once I fix the drive?
or better yet,  How can I repair the Invalid catalog PEOF on this drive?
Thank you in advance for your time!
    Bill

Try using Disk Utility/Restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition which will erase all data.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

  • TS1543 my mac wont stop at single user it continues to root, how can i get to single user to enter info needed to reset password

I my mac wont recognise my password, i have tried to reset password using single user but my mac wont stop at single user it just continues to root, how do i get it to stop at single user so i can add info needed to reset password?

Are your sure that wasn't a Verbose boot (Cmd-V) you were trying? That would go on to a regular boot.
Try a PRAM Reset, then try the single user, Cmd-S, at the startup chime. For the PRAM Reset, hold down Option - Cmd - P - R all together until it chimes a total of three times, then let go to finish booting.

    Hello experts,
How to copy file from one folder of application server and paste it to other folder of application server(application server is same)?
Is there any function module exists???
    thanks in advance
    Saurabh

Hi you can use this function module to move a file from application server to another folder on application server.
    call function 'WS_FILE_COPY'
               exporting
                    destination = m_destination
                    source      = m_source
               importing
                    return      = return.
Plus u can use this function module to delete the file from that folder from which u want to replace it.
          call function 'WS_FILE_DELETE'
               exporting
                    file   = m_source
               importing
                    return = return.
The above FM can help u copy a file from one folder to another and delete the file from that folder.

  • How to copy files from a color classic w/broken floppy drive to an i-book ?

How to copy files from a color classic w/broken floppy drive to an i-book ?
    I have a Coplor Classic with a system 7.
There is no ethernet on color classic. The floppy drive is dead.
I need some important files I have on the color classic...
How do I connetct them to transfer files?...

The easiest way, as AppleIIFreak has suggested, is probably to find another older Macintosh computer (with the round MiniDIN printer port) to be used as an intermediary. You could then connect the two machines by means of LocalTalk cabling, or just a plain Mac serial printer cable between the printer ports, and then set up file sharing. From that other Mac, you should be able to forward the files via Ethernet, diskettes (if you have an external USB floppy drive for the iBook) or email (Internet).
If a second old Mac is not available, you may want to try something else. It would not be unusual for a Color Classic to have ClarisWorks already (obviously, one cannot expect anything new to become installed). If so, that program suite would contain a communications part. This means that you could connect an external serial modem, and send the files over the phone lines (or locally, modem-to-modem, in principle as in KB article # 22229; sometimes a very simple home-built line simulator may have to be added) to any other computer using a terminal emulation application with file transfer capabilities. It would also be possible to connect the modem port directly to the serial port of a PC, through a combination of a Mac modem cable (MiniDIN-8M to DB-25M) and a standard PC null-modem cable (DB-25F to DB-9F).

To delete files from your external HDD, attach it to your MBP and drag the unwanted files to trash and then empty trash.
Then you select the files that you want to transfer by 'drag and drop' to the external HDD and trash the files on your MBP.
    Ciao.

  • How to copy files from another computer

    Hi,
My daughter is logged into my server from her home. We ar trying to copy files using select all copy/ paste to my folder on the server.
We have copied about 82 images all jpegs. but thy all say 0 bytes.
    What did we do wrong?
    Thanks
    Martin

Try to drag and drop the images to the server share.
While your description of your actions do not imply an error of execution, it might be worth trying an alternate method.
Also, what is your daughter's computer?  Is it Windows?  Since this is the OS X Server discussion thread, I will assume the server is a mini running Mountain Lion.

The impact is none of the users will be able to connect to the database/application (except for the sys user which can connect to the database). Usually, you would need to put the database in restricted mode when doing upgrade/migrate (i.e. you do not want to have active user sessions in the database during that time).
    Thanks,
    HusseinHi
    i want to mean:
ALTER SYSTEM QUIESCE RESTRICTEDThe ALTER SYSTEM QUIESCE RESTRICTED statement may wait a long time for active sessions to become inactive. You can determine the sessions that are blocking the quiesce operation by querying the V$BLOCKING_QUIESCE view. This view returns only a single column: SID (Session ID). You can join it with V$SESSION to get more information about the session, as shown in the following example:
select bl.sid, user, osuser, type, program
    from v$blocking_quiesce bl, v$session se
where bl.sid = se.sid;I suspect all apps user can.t login to db?
