How to Copy Firefox Bookmarks to Safari?

Will it work if I rename my Firefox bookmarks.html located in Firefox profiles to bookmarks.plist and replace them in my Safari library? If not how do I copy my Firefox bookmarks to Safari other than the first time I open Safari.

renaming the file won't work - but if you enable the Debug menu... either by using a 3rd party app like Safari Enhancer; or as I did by pasting defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1 into a Terminal window after quitting Safari first, then you can choose 'import bookmarks' and point Safari to the html file from Firefox.
I actually have Tiger, so haven't seen this on Panther, but there have been plenty of threads where I've offered this suggestion, and it's worked out fine.

Import and Backup is the third (last) button on the toolbar in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) that looks like a star. 
Other platforms show the text label, but on Mac you only see toolbar icons.

- Note that the manual presupposes you have Mountain Lion installed on your Mac, which is what it says in your message, so I'm assuming you have.
Also, I suppose you're not using iCloud. If you ARE using iCloud on your Mac and iPhone, I recommend using that for your bookmarks over USB-syncing. Here's the manual for that: iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Bookmarks and Reading List - Apple Support

Do you have Windows 7 or XP? If you have Win7, install the iCloud control panel for Windows and set it up there (Ignore the fact that it shows IE in the control panel, once you check it off, you'll be able to select Safari).

Can't delete old Firefox bookmarks in Safari

Trying to simply bookmark a page in Safari ; get a window that says I must keep or delete old firefox bookmarks but it won't. And I can't save any bookmarks, and can't even drag onto the bookmarks bar. What should I do?

I've tried everything that I can think of! Connected my iMac and G4 together and tried to "Import Bookmarks" and have no option to choose safari on my G4. Put my G4 safari on an external drive and hooked it to my iMac. Same results. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm using version 4.1 on my G4 and version 5.0.1 on my iMac.

You need to go to File/Export Bookmarks (in Safari) on the G4, save the file to the Desktop.
(Target Disk Mode?) Then on the iMac in Safari, go to File/Import Bookmarks.

When you touch the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it at the top of Safari, are you then selecting Add Bookmark, and where are you then saving it ? If you are chosing Bookmarks Bar, as opposed to Bookmarks, then it will show across the top of the Safari screen when you open a new browser 'tab' - if you are chosing Bookmarks are you putting it into a folder ?
