How to copy podcasts not in iTunes library from iPod to iTunes

When I was a Windows pc user, I had a great free program to copy music & podcasts back into an iTunes library, but now that I own a MacBook Pro, I am lost. There have to be (hopefully free) programs in Mac OS to do this. I have several podcasts that got deleted on my Mac library but as of now still exist on the iPod Touch 4g. Can anyone help?

That should be possible.
From his library connect to your library via Home Sharing.
Select the name of the shared library in the source pane of your itunes, and click on the wee disclosure triangle to the left of the name of the library. Does "Films" appear beneath the name of the library?
Here's a screenshot of what I mean.
Select "Films". In the right-hand pane you should see the item you want to transfer. Just select that item, and click "Import".
Use the same basic technique to get one or a few songs from your library transferred to his library. (The only difference is that you would have "Music" selected instead of "Films".
If you don't want him to have access to other items in your library, you could just switch Home Sharing off on his library after you've done the transfers.

Any way to restore iTunes library from iPod?

I lost a hard drive on my labtop and had to re-install the iPod and iTunes programs after getting a new disk. Now the iTunes library is empty and would not recognize the old iPod and want to erase all its contents. Is there any way to restore the library from iPod to my laptop (a Compaq running Windows XP)? The Apple site says I can reverse sync up to five computers with the songs purchases from iStore, but I can't figure out where are the buttons either on the iTunes or the iPod. For the experts out there please help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

I dragged it to Trash and when it started to move I clicked over to the new hard drive to confirm it had indeed been copied. I became nervous when I didn't see among the few files on this otherwise empty new hard drive anything that resembled a 280GB Library so I cancelled the migration to trash.

You could try to rebuild the Spotlight Index, if you do see no progress:

Unlike iPhoto, Photoshop is only an editor. It does not store or organize images. In iPhoto preferences, you can choose Photoshop as an editor. You will then get a choice when you double click on an iPhoto thumbnail to use iPhoto or Photoshop to make edits. But Photoshop does not have a library to store images like iPhoto.
You may want to use Adobe Bridge or Lightroom to help name and organize your pictures. You can Export your iPhoto Library to a folder and manage the exported images there.
Personally, I hate the arcane manner iPhoto stores and organizes images. I use it only for photos from my iPhone.

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music back to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.
