How to copy Quicktime Movie to DVD

I took some movie clips on a Nikon L4 camera and saved them to my HP Pavillion as Quicktime movies. I would like to copy them to DVD to play on my DVD player. Can I do this and if so how? Do I need Quictime Pro?
HP Pavillion a1600n   Windows XP   using Nikon Coolpix L4

You will need third-party software that can create a video DVD (QuickTime Pro will not create a video DVD). I'm sure if you search the net for something like "Windows video DVD create" you'll come across numerous such products. You'll need to make sure that any product you choose can import QuickTime movies, or get conversion software that can convert a QuickTime movie to a format your DVD application can handle (QuickTime Pro might do this, but you'd probably find freeware apps that could also do the conversion).
Regards.

Do you know how to copy a movie from a Panasonic NV-GS70 to an iMovie Project?

There is a link for an update for the USB driver here:

Other than that follow the directions for connecting it to a computer and in iMovie select Import
this should lead to a dialog for selecting clips for import.

I'm guessing that your using One Step DVD . This will only work with one movie at a time.
Create a new project and all you should have to do is drag your movies from your movie folder onto your iDVD project. You can add as many movies as you like but obviously you can't exceed the maximum total DVD size.
Encoding can take a long time depending on the original file format, but you should be able to use pretty much any file format you can play with Quicktime.

You can use "execve". • Exporting Final Cut Quicktime movie onto DVD, Exporting Final Cut Quicktime movie onto DVD

    Hello,
So I've just finished a 30 minute long project on Final Cut Express.  I want to get this project onto a DVD-R (holds 4.7 GB) so I can get it to a television station where it will be aired.  I exported the project to my desktop as a Quicktime file.  The file is 22 GB.  This doesn't seem right.  What do I need to compress this file to get it onto a DVD-R with minimal loss of quality?  I used iDVD to get a 36 minute version of this project onto DVD and it worked great.  The thing is, if I'm giving the 30 minute version to a television station, the movie shouldn't have the interactive DVD title screen at the beginning, so I need to find another way to compress the movie.  Any advice??  Thanks.

    Hi
To get Maximum quality over to TV-Station - I would Copy back to miniDV tape (100% quality) and let them use a Camera or tape-deck to play it.
(BTW - DVD is as standard SD-Video - so HD material will not be any better - in some cases it even get worse)
Else if DVD is a must.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things to know
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Drop it into the Auto-Play box (top left one in organization menu in iDVD)
Use a Very simple theme - eg "Brushed Metal" (old themes)
Drop a black photo here to make it invisibly
    • Now it will Auto-Start and end on a Black frame - There are no - No Menu choice else.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
    Problems then
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • How to export quicktime movie?

I was wondering how I can export a quicktime movie (camcorder film) to a smaller size but that can also be played on both Mac and PC computers? I tryed to export a couple time using encoding such as MPEG-4 but the movie accually was much smaller to view than the original and the second time I tryed to encode it at a bigger size, the movie played at the same sze as the original but at a lower quality because it was stretched.
Can anyone help me with this. I just want to export and save a quicktime movie into a playble formate for both mac and windows and also not taking up too much disk space either. Thank you.
    Dorian Oddi

One could write a book (I did) that explains what all the codecs do and where and when to use them.
You need only need to know where the file will be viewed and its source format.
As Rick has pointed out, most new digital cameras capture in DV (Digital Video) and they are nearly instantly ready for software editing (like iMovie). QuickTime Pro can also edit the .dv files.
Once you determine where the file will be viewed (the Web for example) you'll get an understanding of methods to "compress" the file to fit the planned playback.
Three major factors that reduce the file size:
The new dimensions (720X480 DV files) to Web 320X240 (DV uses rectangular pixels).
Reduce the "frame rate". If the source was 30 frames per second you can usually remove half of them (15fps). Use more fps if the source has lots of motion.
The codecs used. Compressor-decompressor is handled by the delivery format (.mov or .mp4). Some are more efficient and offer better quality when enlarged during playback. MPEG-4 is the most modern and will soon become the next generation of DVD (currently MPEG-2).
This is where your question can only be answered by you. The quality can be adjusted (some codecs offer "sliders"; good better best while others allow you to set a data rate) and only you know what is acceptable.
Rick suggests a "one minute" export and I agree. Use various settings and data rates and use your eyes to decide what is acceptable.
Don't forget that part of your capture was audio. If your camera captures only mono formats making the export into stereo does nothing but double the size of the audio track. The Advanced Audio Codec (AAC) format found in MPEG-4 exports does a great job of reducing the file size. You can control these settings at export, too.

  • How to burn Quicktime movie to CD

hello- i need help. instructions on how to burn a quicktime movie to a cd. i exported an iphoto slideshow to quicktime so that i can share with family. now, i have a .mov file but don't know how to burn it to cd. do i need quicktime pro to do this? i appreciate any help. thanks

If you just want to burn it to a CD (or do you want this CD to play in a DVD player?) all you have to do is insert a blank CD, Choose to let the Finder handle it, drag and drop the file on the CD then drag and drop the file on the Trash (the Trash icon will change to a burn icon).

  • NEED THE BEST QUALITY QUICKTIME MOVIE FOR DVD!  THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE.

I just finished a three minute piece that will be shown on DVD and projected to a sixteen foot screen. I usually just output a self-contained quicktime movie with current settings and then compress with bitvice. While I'm happy with those results, because of the size of this screening, I'm curious whether there might be better options for output to quicktime, such as uncompressed, etc?
I've also heard that I could output as a Jpeg, or a PNG file, but I'd love some advice on what works best and the workflow, as I need to get this done fast and can't really afford the time to experiment.
Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated. THANKS1

I usually just output a self-contained quicktime movie with current settings and then compress with bitvice.
That will provide the best quality ... the quality won't improve over what you had in FCP. Depending on your source media type(s), you may have had a better quality export IF you had edited and rendered with another setting.

  • General error saving QuickTime movie for DVD

I have been trying to save my Final Cut Express project into QuickTime Movie so I can put it on a DVD- it gets 30% (about 12 minutes) through the Writing Audio and Video portion when a window pops up that says General Error. I don't know if this is a computer error, FCE error, QT error or what. I tried a bunch of obvious easy fixes that didn't work. It has done it 4 or 5 times over a few days. Suggestions?

...I do have still pics- what is a size that I can use? Will fce change the size or do I have to use another application?...
    Hi(Bonjour)!
    FCE will not resize stills.
So using a large one (say 4000 X 2600 pixels, common for 12 meg still camera) involves a lot of calculation for FCE to fit the size of timeline. If you don't need a such size for some Ken Burn stuff or pan or zooming, stay with smaller size like 720x480 (the size of DV NTSC format) or 1920X1440 for HD.
You can use Photoshop or even preview applications do resize your stills.

  • Copying my movies to DVD

I bought a movie, and am trying to copy the movie to a DVD. I select "backup to disc", I then get a message that I have select a CD backup but have inserted a DVD and am asked if I meant to backup to a DVD. I answer yes and Itunes writes to the DVD. I am not able to play this DVD on my DVD player, anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

This does not seem fair to me. I bought the movie,
Actually, you purchased a license to view the movie, which explains what you are/not allowed to do with the movie.
doesn't that give me the right to view the movie on my media of my choice?
No, it does not. The license spells it out.
To back up to an external hard drive, you simply drag the source movie files to the hard drive icon on your desktop or in My Computer." Forgive me if I sound like a techno idiot, but I can't find my source movie file,
It's in My Documents-> My Music -> iTunes -> iTunes music.
Or you can just drag from iTunes to your desktop, just like music.
if I could then would I not be able to copy the file onto a DVD from my hard drive?
Yes, you can copy the file to a DVD but you cannot format/encode the file onto a DVD which plays in a standard DVD player. It will simply be a backup file.

  • How to make quicktime movie export interactive.

I've keynote 09 presentation that has images and videos inserted into it. I need to share this people across on internet. I've created quicktime .mov file for this. My file size comes roughly around 500MB. Everything is fine, only problem I see is when I play quicktime file on my mac mini it is interactive, so I click on mouse and it moves to next text or next slide. Whereas same file when I run on my Windows 7 machine it just keeps flying thru it without any interaction from user. Same thing happesn when I try to play quicktime file uploaded on vimeo or smugmug.com, file just flies thru all slides without any user interaction.
Is there a way where I can make my slideshow to be interactive ?
    thanks
    -mj

The problem probably is because you are opening the QT movie with Windows Media Player
    Solution
Download Quicktime player to your windows 7 PC
Then right click the QT movie you made from keynote and select 'open with'
Then select quicktime (the QT player downloaded)
    Hope that helps

  • How to view Quicktime movie on iPad

    Hi,
I have the most recent iPad Air. Yesterday I took a video with my iPhone 4S. I emailed it to myself and some others, straight from the photos app. They were able to open it up on their computers. My iPad won't play it. When I click on the attachment, it just displays a grey screen saying "Video.MOV QuickTime Movie."
I searched and others with this problem seemed to have an issue playing other formats like WMV. This is straight from an iPhone. So I can't imagine the iPad should need a third party app for this. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Try playing with free OPlayerHD Lite app.
