How do I create and use a ringtone without syncing and without jailbreaking?

You create ringtones on your computer and sync them to your iphone.
You can buy ringtones from the ringtones section (at the bottom of the screen when you open itunes) of the itunes app on your iphone.
There may be apps that will do this - not sure.

  • Syncing Ringtones without syncing anything else

I got my iPhone and my iPad right before iOS 5 came out, and have been syncing primarily via iCloud and not via iTunes.  Anytime I try to sync anything via iTunes I end up losing data or ending up with duplicate data.  I like to deal with my devices without having to use any PC.  But I got a ringtone app, and found this great ringtone....but apparently I have to sync my ringtones on iTunes to actually get it onto my phone.  Can I sync just ringtones on iTunes....without anything else, such as apps or music...syncing as well?
    Regards,
    Lisa

    Try doing the following:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on you computer, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from automatically syncing"
Authorize your computer or all Apple IDs used to purchase media on your phone from either the iTunes or App store by going to iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer
Connect your phone, when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar, right-click on the name of your phone and select Transfer Purchases (this will transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library)
Right-click on the name of your phone again and select Backup (this will back up your phone without syncing)
Review your sync settings on the various tabs to the right (Summary, Info, Music, etc.) and select what you want to sync.  If you are syncing contacts and/or calendars on the Info tab you will need to enter at least one contact and one calendar event into the program you are syncing these with prior to syncing your phone.
On the Tones tab check Sync Tones, and make sure you have checked the ringtone(s) in your library that you want to sync to your phone.
Sync your phone.  Your iTunes media may be erased from your phone (including your apps), but since they have now been transferred to your iTunes library they will simply be synced back to your phone.
After syncing you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices ang re-enable automatic syncing.

  • How do I add a ringtone without syncing the rest of my phone??

I recently bought a mac, and got my own apple ID (up to now my mother, sister, and I have all been using the same one). If I sync my phone to my mac I lose most of my stuff and what a pain in the butt it would be to pay to get all of that back on my phone. I found that for music, the "autofill" button is a way around syncing since I never really use music on my phone except for running. But now I downloaded a new ringtone, that was not through iTunes and it will no longer let me click and drag to add it to my phone. Is there any other way that you know of to add a ringtone to an unsynced phone?

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from your other computer to /Music/ on your Mac and your iPhone will sync fine.
Make sure to authorize your computer for the old iTunesID.

  • How do I load a ringtone without syncing

OK - so I know this issue has been asked in hundreds of different forums but after reading all and trying each I am no further than where I started. So I downloaded a silent ringtone (for telemarketers) in .m4r format. I dropped it into iTunes 10.8 (WinXP OS). I plug iPhone in and it is recognized. I drag the file from my desktop and drop into iTunes. It shows in tone folder in iTunes. I drag file from iTunes tones folder and drop into iPhone tones folder. It shows and is checked. Here's the problem - normally, once a song or tone or any other file is moved this way you can see it load onto the phone in the status bar at the top of the screen. Obviously a small file like a tone will be quick but this does not happen. I don't want to sync. If I uncheck sync in photos, music, videos...etc and only sync tones it starts a 6 or 7 step process (back-up...) It also appears that I will lose all of the music on my phone since the colored memory usage indicator at the bottom of the panel shows little of anything since I "un-synced" everything but tones - is this just a representation or will I actually have to sync all? All I want to to is drag and drop the tone into my phone an be done with it - why isn't it that simple? Is there a setting in preferences I need to change? Help - anyone? I'm not well versed in iTunes but I'm not lost when it comes to technology - normally Apple makes things pretty intuitive.

iTunes is trying to do exactly what you told it to do.
You unchecked the options for sync apps and/or music so on the next sync it is going to remove all the synced apps and/or music on the device.
    Just leave things alone.
You cannot simply "drag and drop" if you want to sync.  It's one or the other.
Seriously... is it going to kill you to wait the 30 seconds to let it sync?

  • How to transfer music without syncing

The harddrive and video card on my Mac died recently and I didn't get a chance to back up my files, which means I've lost just about all of my music files, but it's still all on my ipod which has left me in absolute fear of syncing my ipod with itunes... I have music on the computer I'm now using that I need to have on my ipod but I don't know how to transfer it onto my ipod without losing what is already there, is there any way to get a drag and drop thing happening on my ipod so I don't have to sync it with itunes and lose everything that's already on my ipod?

    Hi amarama,
I would reccomend using alternitive software to iTunes to sync the music. Here is an article on about.com that may help: http://mp3.about.com/od/essentialsoftware/tp/Top-5-Alternatives-To-Itunes-Best-F ree-Software-For-Syncing-Music-To-Your-Ipod.htm

  • ITunes Refuses To Copy Songs Without Syncing

Besides being the most annoying music device I've owned, the iTunes works perfectly for it. iTrash refuses to copy songs to my iPuke unless I sync them and in doing so it wants to copy all 12GB's of music to an 8GB device. Who came up with this connection system? There's a worm in my apple.

If the capacity of your iPod is smaller than the size of your library your library you have a couple of options.
    1) Manage your iPod manually and drag whatever content you wan to it from iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer, once you are connected you can change your settings: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
    2) Use the option "Sync Music - Selected Playlists. Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 7400MB for a 8G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod.

  • How To Copy Slides without Losing Object Properties

Because I was working in a corrupt file, I had to copy and paste my slides into a new project.
After doing this, I see that my click boxes, captions, and other objects lose their properties (including Item Name, "On Success: Show" instructions, timing, etc.)
Is there any way to copy and paste slides into a new project without losing this critical piece of each slide?!
    Many thanks,
    Natalie

I had a similar problem when I first started using Captivate.  I was able to copy the objects while maintaining the properties by exporting all
objects from the corrupt source files to a new project.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to copy region, without copying region based automation.

Say I wanted to copy a region to another track, for instance the track below.  If the region that was going to be copied had region based automation, say modualtion or pan region based automation.  Is there a way to copy the region, but not the region automation on it?
    Cheers

if the automation is MIDI data within the region, then no, you can't copy without the data. It is very easy to delete the info after moving it. Just select, for example, 1 instance of cc#1,Then "select similar" from the edit window, then delete. Repete as necesary for other controller types.

  • Exactly how to copy/paste audio?

I see in the manuals and lessons that you can copy audio from a video clip and use it elsewhere.
What I'm stuck on is EXACTLY how you copy audio (without the video it is with). I have "extracted" the audio in the clip from which I want to take the audio and identified which bit of it I want.
I see from the manual how to copy video, by placing cursor just under the play head and dragging. But this brings with it the video, so when I paste I get the audio I want together with the unwanted video which barges out of the way the clip into whcih I want to drop the audio only.
I am sure I'm missing something simple, but I can ony find guidance on copy video, not audio, althought he lessons lightly say you can do it, they don't say how.
    Anyone can help?
    TIA
    Martin
Mac OS X Intel Mac OS X (10.4)

    Answered my own question.
You select by positioning the "audio playhead" in the audio clip in question, dragging it and pressing Coomand-C to copy the audio clip. (I'm guessing this is obvious to Mac users but it's not clear to this pc refugee how to "select" - in fact it's taken days to get to the bottom of this.
Then position the playhead where you want the audio clip and Edit-Paste, then trim teh excess to get the bits you don't want.
Actually less intuitive and user friendly than I would have expected, but well, there is it.

  • Sync custom ringtone onto iPhone - without syncing to iTunes

I do not sync my iPhone 5 to my iTunes on my MBA. Whenever I plug in my iPhone into iTunes, it asks if I want to set up a new iPhone or restore from a nonexistent backup. So I cannot get the ringtone I made in GarageBand onto my iPhone by syncing my iPhone with my iTunes. All software on both devices is fully up to date. With all that in mind, how am I supposed to get my ringtone onto my iPhone?

You can't get the ringtones on your phone without syncing to iTunes.
Is this the first time you've synced with iTunes?
