I have a macbook running leopard (so no iCloud syncing), and I want to sync (or even copy) bookmarks from the macbook to my iPad 2. When I sync, in iTunes, it does not give the option to sync bookmarks, it just says they will be synced via iCloud, which of course they are not. Please help.

ok, i figured it out.
go to your ipad2 settings>icloud>bookmarks. turn bookmarks off. it will ask you if you want to delete. say yes. plug your ipad to your macbook. open up itunes. in devices, click on your ipad. go to info tab. scroll down to bookmarks. you should be able to choose 'sync bookmarks'. then choose 'apply'.
look at your ipad safari page. your bookmarks will be updated and synced with your macbook.

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

I've had my iPad2 for a few months now, and I noticed that my iMac Safari bookmarks are more current than those on my iPad2, even though I think I'm set up for them to be kept current using iCloud. I use the cable to sync with iTunes on my iMac, and I've set it up to use iCloud storage. Obviously, I'm probably causing a conflict somehow, so please review how to ensure the iPad2 bookmarks are current with the iMac.

This generally worked for me (finally!), though I think there is still a tricky place where your bookmarks in Safari on the iPad "over-write" those on the iMac. I was expecting some type of merge where bookmarks that were different in either system would be added to the other, but that may be expecting too much.
I would also suggest two slight modifications/additions (though I have not thoroughly tested these):
In step 3 - press "Keep on my iPad" after you turn off Bookmarks
In step 5 - back in your iPad, leave Bookmarks "Off"
I am disappointed that the iPad user guide fails to adequately describe how this process works. If you have both an iPad and an iMac, syncing the bookmarks seems like a pretty important function to get right.

The easiest way to copy your Safari bookmarks to a different Mac is to export them from Mac #1, and import the resulting .html file into Safari on Mac #2.

go to - Home/Library and make a backup of the "Safari" folder this contains bookmark/history/top site info.
If it's really only the Bookmarks you're interested in, then just copy that.
After your clean install, put them back in the same location in your Snow Leopard Home Folder.

Because of Apple no longer allowing simple ID's, I had to create a new ID. Trying to use this same ID on my iMac, iPad, and iPhone did not work - I spent hours trying to sort that out and gave up. Oh, if I only knew the answer to that question. Somewhere, somehow, something got screwed up with my "new" Apple ID and the underlying email accounts. I spoke on the phone to an Apple support guy who finally gave up after 30 minutes. As it stands now, all three devices see the same email messages - very good thing. However contacts, notes and anything else on the iMac are not shared on th iPhone and iPad. The goofy thing is that those items DO share between the iPhone and the iPad, but anything I do on either of those devices is not sync'd over to the iMac. I've spent so much time messing with it that my head hurts. I wish I could simply clear out all three and start over, but the way things have worked out so far, I'd probably wind up with NOTHING working. Very, very annoying.

I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
/Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.
