How to create 2 separate libraries on one computer ?

I have two music folders (such as "kids" and "Adults") in the "My Music" folder and I want to create 2 separate libraries for managing the music for Kids versus adults.  I cannot figure out how to create a new iTunes library limited to a single folder tree ("kids" for example) . . .  because iTunes only gives the option to "Scan for Media" which is promiscuous and scans everything, regardless of where the library files are created.
I know I can temporariry remove the "kids" folder then create a the "Adult" library.  Then temporariliy remove "Adults" folder and create a "Kids" library, but thats requires hours of file copying to and from an External USB drive.  Once the two libraries are created then they can live together on the same computer . . . but how to get the libraries initially created is the question ?    Maybe I will try NTFS file permissions to make folder 'A' invisible to iTunes while creating the library for folder 'B'.
But there must be an iTunes option to do this . . right ?

RESOLVED . . . Still looking for an iTunes method of creating 2 libraries on 1 computer.   But if it helps for others, you can use NTFS file permissions to deny access to one folder tree to keep iTunes focused on the other folder tree it can see when you select "Scan for Media".
Then reverse the permissions to create the library for the other folder tree.   When done allow access two both trees and they will then co-exist on one computer.
The only remaining inconvenience . . . I have iTunes Match set up on library "Adults".  If I sign into the Apple store to buy a song or get artwork from library "Kids", iTunes is populated with the "Adult" songs from iTunes Match.  I just have to avoid staying signed into the Store from the "Kids" library, so someone doesn't start downloading "Adults" music into the "Kids" library.
To inform the context of this question, we have 3 Apple portable devices that play from our iTunes Match "adult" library.  We also have "Adult" and "kid" devices that are not Apple, so we just copy the respective folder tree to non-Apple devices.
So the use NTFS DENY permissions works for creating two libraries on a single computer, and it only take a few minutes to do,  BUT FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T SYSTEM ADMININSTRATORS, IS THERE AN "APPLE WAY" TO DO THIS ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER?

How do I run two libraries from one computer? One library is on the computer's hard drive, the second library is on an external hard drive. The computer that had the external hard drive crashed and I need to fix the iTunes library on it. How can I do this without corrupting the library on my internal hard drive?

Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and either create a new library or choose the one on the external drive. Any rented movies downloaded from another computer won't play.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The same way you share a non-shared library. If it isn't working check that you have the content checked in iTunes Preferences > general > Show.

  • Two iPods, two separate libraries on one computer?

I have an 80G Classic and a big library on my computer. Bought a George for music and want to use the Classic as a dedicated iPod for the George, with a new library that will contain some but not all of what is in the current library. To this end, I was thinking of setting up a new user on my computer ("George", of course) and downloading iTunes under that user account. Then I am going to buy a new iPod for portable use, and want to sync it with the current account/library. Questions:
    1. Will the current account recognize and sync with the new iPod automatically, or will I have to do something different.
    2. Do I have to re-name the Classic under the new account?
    3. What is the easiest way to move music from the old library to the new one?
Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge.

I was thinking of setting up a new user on my computer ("George", of course) and downloading iTunes under that user account.
iTunes is installe donly one time on a computer.
All users will use th esame application but eac user will have their own library.
Just create the new user and launch iTunes.
    1. Will the current account recognize and sync with the new iPod automatically, or will I have to do something different.
Yes it will recognize the iPod but it will ask if you want to erase and sync what is in the new library. You need to add all the to the library and then sync the iPod.
    2. Do I have to re-name the Classic under the new account?
    Only if you want to.
    3. What is the easiest way to move music from the old library to the new one?
Copy \oldUsername\Music\iTunes\ folder from your old account to a Shared folder.
Then open the new user and copy the \iTunes\ folder from the Shared folder to \newUsername\Music\.

  • Two Libraries on one computer? Is this possible?

Hi- I am helping my parents get their ipods up and running. Is it possible to have two ipods/separate libraries on one computer? If so, do I need to download itunes 7 twice? My dad already has his library up and running on the computer and I need to add my mom's. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

Apologies to all concerned for this threadjacking. I'll make it brief and be on my way.

I bought my duaghter an ipod. Can I have two seperate itunes libraries on one computer? If so, how do I set this up?

I followed these instructions & have created a new library file. However, all my music now appears in the new library as well as my own. (I bought my daughter an ipod nano for christmas & want to separate itunes libraries on one computer). How can this be so difficult?

  • Creating 2 separate libraries on the same computer

So my sister just got her first iPod (nano chromatic), I have had mine for two years (nano second generation). I would like to know if it is possible to create two separate libraries on the same computer. If someone could also please tell me how to do that, that would be awesome. Thank you all so much!

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
Another option is to create a separate Windows User account for each person on your PC. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Create and customize user accounts in Windows XP

  • How can I have separate Libraries in iTunes for my Children?

    Hi all,
I have bought my children iPod Touch devices for Christmas this year and would like to set up accounts and libraries for each of them (3 in total, one for the Mrs!) so I can sync them and put some games and apps on ready for use.
Is it possible to have multiple Libraries on one computer? I know I can open iTunes accounts for each of them but they're not at that stage yet but will - at some point - require different games, apps and whatnot.
I'm sure a friend of mine has a different iTunes library for him and his wife on the same computer and they don't have any sync'ing problems at all...
    I hope someone can help!
    Dave.

You can likely set up different user accounts on the computer and have a library in each account.  I use a Mac so I can't be more specific on user accounts on Windows.
Alternatively you can set up different libraries inside a single user account.  I'ts a bit cumbersome switching between them though.  You can create and switch betwween libraries by holding down the shift key while starting iTunes, then guide it to the library you wish to use.
Another possibility would be to sync just playlists, not everything.  While there are ways to share items between libraries using other methods, this one has the advantage that all the things are in one library and each person makes their selection.
iOS: Syncing with iTunes - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
As for AppleID and accounts, you might consider setting up sooner rather than later.  The main problem with Apple purchases is you cannot transfer them between accounts.  If you give a child a song for a birthday and purchase it on your account, it is forever tied to your account.  If in 10 years your child wants to take with them to college you'll have to give them access to your whole account or always be authorizing their devices which you may not wish to do.

  • HT1451 If I have two iTunes libraries on one computer, how do I know which one is opening when I click on the iTunes icon on the desktop?

If I have two or more iTunes Libraries on one computer, how do I know which one is opening when I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop?

    You cannot.
When you sync to a new library, it will erase the current content.
Use your backup copy of the old computer to copy everything to the new one.

  • How to create hierarchy across more than one dimesion

    Hi experts,
How to create hierarchy on more than one dimension in SSAS.please guide me.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
    This is not Possible without making changes in the cube design .i.e;
Using Join for have to create one dimension with all attributes that you require in dimension .
    Lets say you have
    Dim1
     att1
     att2
     att3
    Dim2
      F1
      F2
    You need Hierarchy as below;
    Hier
     att1
     att3
     F2
    1. Add one Table in DSV using Join between both the tables.
2.Create Dimension using this newly added table.
    3. Create hierarchy

    Hi,
I don't think its possible to create fieldcatalog for different tables,
but if you want to do so create a dummy table which has all the fields which you want in fieldcatalog.
populate the data from different table to that dummy table
then create fieldcatalog for that table and pass it in the function module...
