Hai i am a newbie in BIP. Pls explain how can i connect to my Oracle 9i DB from BI Publisher.

are you talking about BI Publisher Desktop or BI Publisher Enterprise Edition?
BI Publisher Desktop is just for building templates.
You can connect to DB by BI Publisher Enterprise Edition.

Step 1: Load Required Master Data for 0CostCenter in to BI system
Step 2: Enable Characteristics to support Hierarchy for this 0Cost Center and specify the External Characteristic(In the Lowest Node or Last Node) while creation of this Characteristic InfoObject
Step 3: On Last Node of Hierarchy Structure in the InfoObject, Right Click and then Create Hierarchy MANUALLY by Inserting the Master Data Value as BI dosent Support the Hierarchy load directly you need to do it manually....
Step 4: Mapping
Create Text Node thats the first node (Root Node)
Insert Characteristic Nodes
Insert the Last Node of the Hierarchy
Then you need to create a Open hub Destination for extracting data into the .csv file...
Step1 : Create the Open Hub Destination give the Master Data table name and enter all the fields required....and create the transformations for this Open Hub connecting to the External file or excel file source...then give the location on to your local disk or path of the server in the first tab and request for the data...It should work alright let me know if you need anything else...

How to create a datasource from a pool table ?

Hi guys,
Is there anyone who faced the same problem.
I need to create an datasource from the table TIV5T to get texts in BW .
This table is a pool table . When i want to create the DS in RSO2 i got the message :
Only transparent tables and database views can be extracted
I try to create a projection vue, or use the standard vue : same error.
Any Idea ??

Hi,
SAP is not Supporting to create Hierarchy Data Sources in BI7.0
You have to create Hierarchy Data Sources in 3.x only.

Hello Gurus,
I am asked to create a new datasource 0vendor_attr in tcode CTBW
I am giving the details such as Basis datasource,class,client type,object table ,datasource type ,A datasource is getting created with naming convention 1CL_OVEN001,i am saving this datasource,I am not able to find this datasource in RSA5 or in RSA6 ,Also I need to add the characteristics to this particular datasource which I created,how do I give them,,

After you exported the charactersitic datasources (1CL*) into QA, I reckon you should have to change the client name in CTBW
and regenerate the datasource.
Open the client for customizing with help from ever-resourceful basis colleagues, then try and generate the char datasources in QA. 'Normally' there is no deviation from QA onwards, so you may not have to do this in PRD.

HOW TO CREATE A CONNECTION IN BI PUBLISHER WITH VARIABLE ENTRY

I've created one user(say BIPUB1) from AS OIDDAS portal and assigned him XMLP_ADMIN role. I've 10 other users with whom I will share a report. Each user has different authorization(VPD based). Now I want to create a BI-publisher report using a discoverer report(owner BIPUB1) as datamodel and share that report with all 10 users. But all these 10 users should view data based on their authorization defined in OIDDAS. How should I
achieve it?
Can I create a JDBC connection from BI-publisher Admin tab with variable userid and password. When user will logon to BIpublisher portal with login_id and password given in OIDDAS, these variables will capture those values of userid and password and show the report data as they individual user has authorization? Or otherwise please suggest how to maintain authorization. Thanks..

Hi,
Once u created a data source. go to respective application component which u have assigned ducring creatinon of DS in RSO2 and right click on it and use replicate metadata.
a popup with options 1. as data source
2. as 3.x data source will come u select 2 one here and go on.

Hi,
In Modeling select DS. Select Flat File sourc in DS.Create Application component.Slect the Application component in which you want to create DS.Right click on it and select Create DS.
Enter Technical name, Source system and Data type as Transaction, Attributes and Texts. Continue.
In General info Tab enter descriptions.
Goto Fields tab, enter your required info object in info object template.
Activate it.
Now the DS has been created.
Creat Cube, Transformations and DTP for the same, and Info package.

what does ur DSO has to do with the hierarchy? And subject line and the subject are misleading.

Profit center group information is available in SAP(T-code:kch3). But, I want to have this information in BW too.

It looks lilke we need to use the FM like 'G_SET_LIST_SELECT' to get the Profit
Here ais note from the forums to get profit center group from table
From Table SETLEAF, Field SETCLASS = '0106'. Field SUBCLASS with controlling area. Profit center in Field VALFROM.
You will get Group name in Field SETNAME.

Go for the generic data sources.
1. first create the view on all the tables.
        You can only use join conditions but not Union.
        you can specify one table as primary table based on your requirement.
2. build the data source based on the view.
